For all of you that have been in one or more cooking classes with Vicki and Steve, then you are aware of the irreverent, humorous style that these two have. You are also made abundantly aware of the immense, encyclopedic knowledge of Vicki (Steve is no slouch himself). As you read each page, it's like being in class again; what an enjoyable text. Steve's pictures are the best in the business. I have been taking photographs since I was fourteen and know how hard it is to get any one of these beauties, and here is a book of them! What most people don't know is that what a restraint chef tells you is a recipe for a dish and what that recipe actually is, is not an easy thing. Knowing Vicki from her classes, I know she has spent endless hours re-measuring, simplifying, testing so that us mere kitchen mortals can make these dishes work.! What a great book! Please Caparulos give us MORE!!

If your idea of nirvana is settling in with a good (cook)book to read cover to cover, then this is the book for you. If you think that a cookbook is merely a reference manual, this one will change your mind.
For those who have been fortunate enough to be in one or more of Vicki and Steve's cooking classes, you can attest that to replicate one of Vicki's recipes in your own home is an inviation to accolades. The even more fortunate who have cooked in that forty-five square foot kitchen about which she speaks will realize the book is a conversation with Vicki. It is witty and irreverent, yet a precise approach to the methodology of creating a tasty, striking presentation. Steve's photographs of each dish are beautifully done and an asset to the amateur chef for the final perfect finishing touches.
From start to finish this cookbook is fun and educational. Most "pretty" cookbooks may contain just one or two recipes which end up in your personal collection, this one is sure to add dozens.
If you love food, you will love this book.

It's one stop shopping for golf courses in NY. Organized geographically, it provides easy access to a listing of local public and private golf courses.

Knowing that the authors are golfers who have personnally visited all of the courses, assures me of a golfers perspective.

An excellent, comprehensive guide to all of New Yorks golf.

This Tops the Ocean Grove Visual Image books.

Ocean Grove is a mixture of traditions and enjoyment. "Greetings..." provides significant glimpses of the Grove's past, and essentially binds them with today's Ocean Grove experience. The third graphic book about Ocean Grove, this is the best. Unfortunately, a number of images had been incorporated into previous volumns...causing me to think some images were withheld that could otherwise have made it to the pages of "Greetings..." Well known fire apparatus photographer and historian Wm.N.Schwartz's work is represented herein, but no credit given his photos. This is a must for all who care about Ocean Grove and its history, but certainly lends itself to all seeking the nostalgia of time gone by.

Great Treat for New Jersey history buffs.

New Jersey has been called the great "Crossroads of the American Revolution" because of its important strategic location between New York and Philadelphia, a fact well recognized by George Washington when he based his military headquarters in Morristown. This significance is superbly portrayed in DiIonno's Guide by numerous and fascinating vignettes detailing the locations, some now forgotten, of the events that shaped our country's history. For American Revolution history buffs, especially those interested in New Jersey history, this book is a real page turner.

As a kid growing up in New Jersey I had only been taught the basics of what happened here during the Revolution. I had heard the names and stories of famous places like Trenton, Princeton, or Morristown. But these were only the tip of the iceberg. After reading the guide I was surprised to discover that New Jersey is filled with countless places, events, and people connected to the Revolution that have somehow been forgotten by the history books.

For example, does anyone today know about the Battle of Springfield from which the classic image of Patriots skirmishing with Redcoats comes from? Or about the infamous Baylor massacre? Or the retreat of the American Army through Bergen County that inspired Thomas Paine? And what about names like Erskine, Lord Stirling, and Reverend Caldwell? And lets not forget George Washington's Secret Weapon!

These stories are here in this book and they make for a great read. After reading several pages I was inspired to seek out these places and view them firsthand. Exact locations are provided in the guide. In fact, I learned that several of them were right in my own backyard. Down the street from where I live are places once occupied by Washington, Lafayette, and Cornwallis.

The book is also the perfect reference guide for a family or school fieldtrip. Seems to me like a great way to get kids interested in American History... or anyone else for that matter.

So go buy a copy and "Give em the Watts boys!"

First off, I am not History Buff nor do I have kids, but this book is very cool anyway...

When you think of the revolutionary war, you think of Virginia, Massachusetts and Philadelphia. But New Jersey is just as important and in many ways more important than those states, however because it is so corporate and developed, you would never know this.

The author does a great job of telling the story of the "unsung hero" of the revolutionary war (NJ).

Whereever you are in NJ, there is a good chance there is a piece of history not too far - in fact, I live in Franklin Park and work in Warren and there are many places covered in his book that I had no idea existed that are a stones throw from both my office and my home.
For example there is a house that dates back to the early 1700's that is at the end of a road right across from the National Starch and Chemical world HQ's that is at the end of an industrial road. Seeing it is very surreal - this is the only second place in his book I have gone to see so far, but I plan on going to many more (and hopefully dragging my fiance as well).

Overall anyone who is interested in american history and who lives in or around NJ, this book is no doubt a must have.

Midwestern Alphabet Book Collector Loves the Atlantic Ocean
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-19
I am an alphabet book collector who grew up in the midwest. But, twenty years ago I went on a tall mast ship cruise off the cost of Maine and fell in love with the eastern seaboard. This alphabet book captures the joy, pensiveness, intrigue, beauty, and attraction of the Atlantic Ocean and its "adventures." As Papa Gull said to his young offspring, "The Atlantic is mother to us all. . . . Appreciate who you are." And so begins a lyric tale about a gull family and its journey along a seaboard and through the alphabet.

As alphabet books go, this one is 3 standard deviations above the mean. It tells a story. It develops sophisticated vocabulary (with a glossary, I might add). And, it captures the joyful journeys of any family. In this case, it was gulls.

I might quibble with the letter "n" and its illustration of only Caucasian children. All children might love gulls and the shoreline. But, for the joy of a trek and story along the shore, this one is hard to beat.

Share it with your children, regardless of where you live.

Being a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, I couldnýt resist buying ýThe Gullýs Storyý for my two daughters, ages 4 and 7. My little one spotted this book first because of the beautiful illustrations of the various birds and animals, but I have to admit, I was curious myself as to how this book would read and represent the shore area to others. We loved it so much, I was forced to buy another so each of my daughters could keep one for their own. For anyone who hasnýt read this book with their children, its a beautifully written book about the life of a seagull and his creature friends who live on the Jersey Shore .. perfect book to read before bedtime. Another book we recommend (also illustrated by Margie Moore) is ýThe Little Brown Bear ý Count the Ways,ý a favorite especially for my 4 year old since she is still learning her numbers and letters. You will believe the animals in these stories are real by the way Ms. Moore brings out each of their little personalities. I believe this illustrator is a genius in her field of art and her talent of depicting the lives of the creatures in each story told. ýThe Gull Storyý is a ýmust haveý book for any child whether you live on the shore or not.

This is a manual for everyone about cleaning everything, as the title suggests. Beautifully non-biased and generic; teenagers, newlyweds, professionals, men, women, and children can benefit from it's categorical and common sense approach, and derive universal applications. Not the publication of any company or corporation, brand names are not used. Extensive comparative research usually provides for more than one option for any cleaning problem, often in a small med. large format. After reading through once for basic input, keep it real handy to consult before any project. The book will either steer you in the right direction or confirm that you are on course.

A definite must!!

After my son wrote all over the carpet, TV, fireplace, VCR, door, window, coffee table, entertainment center, and walls with a sharpie marker, I called my sister in a panic. She grabbed this book and told me the suggestions for cleaning ink stains. I got the marker off the carpet and entertainment center completely and greatly reduced the stain on the rest. I am ordering this book TODAY. It is a must have in our house with 2 toddlers and another on the way!!!
