This book has taken much of my fear out of using technology for organizing my life. It is written in a very simple manner that even a non-tech like myself can understand. Every busy person in American (and beyond)will benefit from reading this book.

One of the Most Useful Technology Books to Read

Review Date: 2004-03-10
I happened to pick up this excellent book from a local library. It has everything I need to know about organizing my life in the tech era. It was written in a precise and straight forward language with selected amount of useful information. I have read quite a few books in organizing and technology management. This book amazingly covers most core principles in other books, and its texts are less than 150 pages.

Ms. Hedrick starts from simple decisions of purchasing/using PDA or a Cellular Phone, to sophisticated system of organizing your life with papers, electronic documents, as well as relationship with other people in term of staying in touch and sharing information. The progression of depth is very nicely planned.

When I think harder, I have found the concepts of this book are aligned with most 'new age' simplicity books. 'Get Organized' gives you every tool you need without the philosophical understandings. The steps and methodologies outline in this book are very easy to follow, and they are effective. If you want to
dig deeper with advanced techniques, this book has plenty of leads you can follow up with.

You can read 'Get Organized in the Digital Age' in an afternoon and reap the benefit of it for the rest of your life. Give it a try!

A very practical book geared toward the business side of running a forensic psychology practice. Dr. Mart gets down to the little details that others overlook - even reminding us to use the bathroom before getting on the witness stand (he quotes the Duke of Wellington's advice to soldiers going into battle: "Make water whenever you can"). I highly recommend it.

An essential read for those contemplating forensic private practice

This is a book I wish I had when I started private practice. It provides a great orientation to the key issues relevant to establishing a successful practice, and also offers a lot for those already working in the area.

An essential resource for International Business

This book is quite amazing! On the one hand it is virtually encyclopedic as a resource for contemporary managerial issues in International Business. On the other hand it is engaging and readable. As such it is an excellent resource for managers, students and researchers.

An Essential Perspective

Having lived outside of the United States for several years, I was amazed at the accuracy with which Dr. Parker could articulate many of the things that I had witnessed (and that had often left me speechless). Dr. Parker ventures to address a subject that is changing and developing at an astonishing rate, simply by presenting timeless foundations and essential insight. Dr. Parker weaves a wide variety of research with her own vast experience as an expatriot to lead the reader through their own special journey across their own special boundaries. I highly recommend this book for people who have lived outside the U.S. and/or those who are willing to accept that perhaps America may not be the center of the universe.

Globalization is a highly complex issue. It cannot be captured in a magic bottle. Globalization is technological, sociological, idealogical, chaotic, politicized, humanized, ecological, spiritual, contradictory and paradoxical - everything wrapped together. Barbara Parker does a tremendous service by addressing the hard and the soft aspects of this complex science in an organized and intellectually stimulating order. Globalization and Business Practice - Managing across Boundaries is among my most treasured reference and pleasure books.

Smart yet practical

Crisp and to the point yet encompasses many of the concerns and misunderstandings about the transition from training to "real life".

Dr. Campen nicely breaks things down. She goes into great detail with specific issues such as office equipment and furnishings, dealing with insurance, and even more philosophical subjects such as avoiding liability and enjoying your practice.

My favorite part of the book is Chapter 5 where Dr. Campen literally goes step-by-step (from 1-31) on opening an office.

This is a practical, well-written and up-to-date text that is indispensable in opening a practice for the first time.

The most important recommendation I can make, however, is to read it very early during training as it will serve as an excellent guide for learning things during training that are frequently looked over.

A necessity for anyone going into practice....

I would recommend this book to anyone going into medical practice, private or academic. This book is very practical and covers a wide range of topics, including choosing a practice location, designing your practice, malpractice issues, and complying with federal & health care regulations. I really enjoyed reading this book & wish that it had been available earlier in my career. This book would make an excellent gift for medical students as well as those already with established practices.

A hidden gem

The title is somewhat misleading, since it has little to do with technics, as the author akcnowledges, and a lot with human relationships. It is basically a psychology book. In this sense it explains a philosophy the reader has to absorb and apply to everyday life. Although sometimes it is repetitive, and goes down to a lot of real situations, it is not a recipe cookbook. For this reason its principles can not only be applied to highly educated people, like those in an R+D pharmaceutical department, but to all levels of education, doing the appropriate adjustements. They can also be applied to non business relationships, like friends, spouse and children. And if its claims may sound to the unexperienced reader like fantastic, they are not. They really work. The book is expensive, but worth its price. Do not miss it if you believe that human relationships can be improved to everybody's advantage, and better working environment leads to enhanced productivity. Forget it if you believe that the essence of managing is a long whip.

I found this is a very useful and direct way to help clients suffering loss in their lives. It offers a useful way for therapists, counselors, and clients to understand and think about grief work, important information about the grief process and its many changing aspects over time, and many writing and homework exercises that clients can work on between (and in) sessions, which can also help counselors decide and structure how to best work with different clients at different stages in their grief. Recommended!

Part of my career involvement is helping people deal with loss. The Grief Counseling Homework Planner is a wonderful tool to help individuals and families to deal with the grief from any kind of loss. I would recommend that it be used advisedly with someone who understands the healing process and can facilitate those who may need guidance through their grief journey. I use parts of it in my work as a hospice chaplain and with community support groups.

The book provides practical concepts for healthcare administrators. The extensive use of charts, tables and diagrams has been very helpful in presenting complex concept. Even though many of the concepts presented are not new, the practical examples cited helps to bring out present application of the concept.

While the book has been written in the US setting, I find it applicable to my work in Thailand. I intend to use the book for the administration residency program which we are conducting at our group of hospitals.
