McBeth The Distributed Leadership Toolbox (2008)

McBeth's book is a practical multimedia resource that sets new standards in education. While the text is excellent, the support for school leaders that has been placed on CD-Rom is invaluable.

This book is probably the best resource that one could give a school leader, or an aspirant school leader, because it allows the reader to learn skills and acquire knowledge at his/her own pace. In many cases the school leaders' roles are subverted by immediate crises, which then forces them into a survival type of existence. This book provides timely, high quality support, which facilitates continuous professional leadership learning. Support from Spillane and Halvorson ensures that the book is well grounded in the distributed leadership research.

The CD-Rom contains reproducible content from the book and it includes over 35 high quality diagrams and charts- the type that school leaders always need. Among the valuable tools are:
Leadership Impact Survey; Identified Leadership Practices; Directional Intentions of Leadership Practices; Tally Log; Reflection Worksheet; Shaping Our reflection; Intentions Versus Actions; New Practice Action-Planning Chart; and lots more.

For every school leader, this book is well worth purchasing. In the "old days" we carried around a set of ideas and resources that we could use in school and personnel development processes. McBeth's valuable "toolbox" has replaced most of that.

Great time saver. For the most part my clients found the homework assignments helpful to their process.

Good addition to the practical clinical library.

This is a clever and useful book to help clinicians and divorcing clients and couples alike. It can be used even before a divorce, if a couple or individual client is considering separation, but is mostly useful during the many stages that follow the break-up. It is a book and therapeutic tool to be used during the life of the post-divorce cycle, from divorce to final "recovery" from the divorce, and filled with ideas, practical information about the emotional process of the divorce, and strong writing exercises that can help clients better understand their emotional and practical needs, and control the negative fall-out that can often occur following a divorce. It can also help the couples therapist figure out how to best assess and help. Good addition for the library of marriage and couples therapists, and other therapists who work with divorce.

A BREAKTHROUGH in STYLE, PASSION & HONESTY

Dr. Howard Shevrin stuns us in the unveiling of the intimate!
In verse, of all wondrous forms, he moves us dramatically through the inner realms of his characters. In each vignette, we peer into the inner sanctum of a psychoanalysis...IDENTIFYING
- IDENTIFYING - IDENTIFYING!
Here, at last, a fresh new author who stirs an alchemical mix of poetic art, classical allusion, and brutal honesty.
You, as the fly on the wall bear guilty witness to the titillating dialogue amongst the analyst and the analysand.
You are at once exhilarated to a fine sweat, then as suddenly
gasp in the taste of the tragic.
Wake Up! Feel this book and scream with it.
See life in its most raw & vibrant beauty.
This IS a book to come alive with.
It just might change everything!

Book delivered timely and supplier very friendly. I ordered book like on a Thursday and got it by Saturday. So I had it a few days before my classes started! The book was in great shape and the package was well secured. I would order another book from this supplier.

This is exactly the book required for my MBA class

The book, although used, came in great (like new) condition and it was shipped quickly. I wouldn't buy this book unless I had to - it is a school text book. But for a text book it isn't bad. It's fairly thin as well (less to read)

If you have had the opportunity to listen to Dr Hillson in one of his lectures or presentations in a PMI Congress, you will be able to appreciate what to wait from this book. It is one of the best I have read related with project risk management, my prefered knowledge area in project management.

The book is well structured, according to the Project Management Institute standard (PMI) PMBOK 2004 Exposure Draft and it goes deep into the different risk processes. The risk identification chapter is packed with consulting techniques, explained with detail. I also enjoyed the qualitative assesment process chapter. The quantitative risk analysis chapter is devoted to Monte Carlo simulation and misses Decision Tree analysis, but he did well describing how to feed data into a simulation, given the results of the qualitative risk assesment, and interpreting the outputs of the simulation.

His exposition is perfectly clear, sometimes going into the subject over and over, so it is a great learning book suitable as a risk text book for a Project Management masters or postgraduate courses. Excellent as well for PMP candidates
Don't be fouled by the title. The author goes into negative impact risks as well as to positive impact risks (opportunities).
I understand the price is high for a risk management book, but it is worth every penny.

I'm pleased to offer this long-awaited book to colleagues and peers interested in the developing world of risk management. The aim of the book is to explore the implications of extending the definition of "risk" to include opportunity. If the definition is broader, then the risk process should also be expanded to address upside uncertainties. This book presents the definition debate, then describes a generic process for risk management including both threats and opportunities together. A closing section on implementation issues deals with how to make it work in practice, including the role of psychology. Hopefully this book will move the debate forward, as well as giving practical guidelines allowing opportunities to be identified and captured more effectively.

While ENERGY ZAPPERS: DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO DRAIN YOU DRY could have easily been featured in our 'Spirituality' section, it's reviewed here for its wider-ranging importance to all kinds of leaders who would learn how to turn stressful relationships to more effective paths. The authors are pastors at two of America's largest churches so their approach is Christian in origin, but their practical, real-world tips on how to turn draining relationships into energy-charged ones makes for important reading, bringing this to the attention of not just spiritual collections and those catering to church leaders, but to any business holding.

Dealing with Energy Draining Relationships
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-06-16
Whether leading a group, mentoring, or counseling one on one, "Energy Zappers" is a helpful guide to dealing with those individuals who drain your group efforts or deplete your own personal energy level.

Shaun and Wallace share from their own lives and ministry experiences in this fast moving study of energy draining individuals. Among them are "Angerers" "Foot Draggers," "Freeloaders, "Quitters" and "Wounders." I was surprised to find myself a borderline in one of the groups and am taking the suggested steps to overcome and to move on to being a stronger team member.

Along with contemporary stories the authors share illustrations from the life of Jesus of these same "Cynics," "Distracters," "Doubters," and "Whiners." Lessons learned from Jesus, Paul, Daniel and other Biblical examples are as applicable today as at the time they were written.

Blakeney and Henley write with humor, emotion, and insight as they adapt principles Jesus used in influencing people to help the reader recognize "energy drainers" and in providing practical advice on turning these negative relationships in to vital, dynamic, positive character building experiences.

Easy to read, hard to put down, and a ready reference for future study.

This is a surprisingly readable book on a potentially boring subject. It is thorough enough to be an excellent preparation for new supervisors yet is also useful to experienced supervisors. Material is presented freshly enough that information previously known to the reader isn't tedious, and plenty of food for thought is offered. I have supervised clinicians for many years, yet found new ways of looking at things in here. I recommend this book.

I purchased this book because I'm new to the consulting field and am still learning the ropes. What I needed were lessons in communication and strenghtening my credibility as a consultant. This book gave me that and so much more. Now those little self-doubts that were holding me back are gone and my services are more in demand than ever. I learned what I needed in order to project myself as a consultant with a lot more confidence than I previously had. The authors use practical experience to demonstrate what a consultant needs to do (and not do!) in order to be successful. This enlightening guide is told with humor which makes reading it seem less like homework. I can't recommend it enough to folks new to the consulting field. There are lessons in it that I believe would also greatly benefit those who consider themselves verterans to to the field. You won't be disappointed with this one!!!

This is a great book for those involved in consulting. My business is advising, not consulting. So why did I buy this book? I bought this book because I wanted to know how to do consulting right and here is why. As a business owner, I am a buyer of consulting services and a disgruntled customer.

When I finished reading this book, my view changed. It convinced me that consulting is part of advising. The connection is what it takes to sell a customer something. Strangely enough I loved the part about "Doing the easy stuff right." Customers appreciate the little things being done right and a lot of things that need to be done are easy to do. This book is just that simple and that clear. It builds on examples and stories that put you in the situation. My business hires a lot of consultants so you could say I am a buyer of consultants' time. Every now and then I find one who is really good at what they do but they are very irritating. From now on I am going to recommend they read the book and then come back and ask for my business. My advice to you is to consult with this book before you go seek any more business for your consulting business. There is nothing worse and more frustrating than a person with talent that irritates me so much that I go buy from another consultant that is easier to relate to and who listens to me. Buy this Book!! And buy a Kindle! I am a Kindle-aholic.
Customers love to recommend books to consultants. Then you can download and read the book that night and be more knowledgeable about what your customer is interested in.
