I have read quite a few books on this subject and I have found most to talk about being open and seeing for oneself, only to restrict the way one might do this.

While I will never try every excercise and perspective, there is much here to meet a mind's eye even if they have tried many such things before.

As a sit down read or for a few minutes of inspiration and exploration I think it is a wonderful book that I intend to wear out over time...

May we find what we are really looking for, even if it is nothing...

This is a text you will use day in a day out--never give it away, you will be sorry.
I love the text's format. The ethics exercises, hypothetical client needs exercises, practice exercises for every chapter, and forms in the appendix are all fantastic/brilliant.
This is a must need tool for case management.

This particular item is an excellent overview of case management practice for beginning and experienced case managers alike. Every aspect of case management practice from definitions to professional boundary issues and ethics to listening skills is covered. While this volume handles each topic in depth, the writing is straight-forward and no-nonsense. This combination makes the information necessary for a thourough discussion on the topic very accessible even to the novice. Chapter 1 entitled "Ethics and Other Professional Responsibilitities for Human Services Workers" provides a strong base for the subsequent discussions which follow. Chapters 6 and &7, "Seeing Yourself as a Separate Person" and "Clarifying Who Owns the Problem", flush out issues which need to be addressed in today's expanding market of paraprofessional services.

This book is a good resource for the shelves of those already working as case managers and a great text for students preparing themselves for work in the field of human services.

Highly Recommended for Businesses Interested In Global Sourcing
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-27
This book would be a valuable resource for businesses seeking a good discussion of global sourcing and purchasing issues in today's environment. Written by three authors with significant practical experience in the global sourcing of goods ranging from raw materials to equipment and pharmaceuticals, the authors provide a well-organized examination of the many issues involved in global sourcing and purchasing.

This book has several major strengths. The authors' principal message comes through very clearly: it takes careful planning to make global sourcing a success, especially in the post-9/11 era. The methodology employed by the authors is also very effective-they walk the reader through the issues from the point of view of a typical manager, and provide concrete examples of the issues that the manager will likely face in the importing process.

Of course, compliance and logistical factors in the global sourcing environment are the major focus of the book, especially emphasizing the changed nature of this environment in the post-9/11 world. Individual chapters focus on topics such as transportation, US Customs issues, other U.S. government agency regulations applicable to imports and, of course, the security issues which have received so much attention since the events of 9/11. The book contains a good discussion of these issues and the main players that are involved in each area.

In addition, the authors do a very good job of challenging the manager to think through the involvement of the many internal players in the company -from legal department to marketing-which will have an important role to play if the global sourcing process is to be successful. The book also has a strong focus on controlling the costs and fees through proper planning.

Finally, recommendations are also included regarding methods to ensure that the company's planning and compliance processes remain up to date.

In terms of possible improvements to this book, several of the chapters would benefit by the inclusion of specific references to key internet resources. Several chapters do already include a number of website references, and additional internet sources are listed in material made available through the publisher's website listed at the end of each chapter. However, a more consistent referencing of key websites within the text of each chapter might be a valuable addition.

Definitive Advice for Global Sourcing

Review Date: 2006-01-09
This book is the most comprehensive text I have seen for sourcing professionals, who must deal on a global basis. The authors have used their extensive experiences and offer sound advice on how to cope with all of the changes brought on by the 9-11 events - across a variety of industries. Using many case examples and first-hnd experiences, they describe in a step-by-step manner what is involved in not just getting the best global prices, but how to make certain the goods are shipped in a timely and high quality manner. Moving product across borders has never been easy, but this book offers a current view and solid techniques for optimizing such efforts. It is recommended reading for any buyer seeking global sources without the grief associated with entering into such territory.

A Definitive Work on a Critical Business Topic...

Review Date: 2005-09-22
"The subject of importing or exporting products into the United States is a highly-complex topic, sometimes handed off to outside third-parties to advise and manage. And yet, this area is so fundamental to the well-being of many companies that it deserves to be better understood by your own organization, regardless of whether you employ third-party help or not. Just consider this: failure to comply with the relevant laws and regulations can result in your company's trade privileges being revoked - dramatically affecting your ability to conduct business.

"Global Sourcing and Purchasing Post 9/11 is the definitive work on this subject, covering the topic comprehensively and in an easy-to-understand manner. The authors clearly demonstrate their extensive depth of expertise in this field. This book is a must-read not only for import/export professionals, but also procurement/supply management professionals, and other professionals seeking to understand this complex and vital area."

"Annie Blachley's elegantly written Good Medicine offers a compelling look at how the medical profession has changed over the years, but more than that, it presents a fascinating picture of early-day Nevada and of the country and world during the war years and afterwards. Blachley's eye for detail is outstanding. This is one of the best books ever about how Nevada and Las Vegas came to be." --Larry Henry, former political editor of the Las Vegas Sun.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal's 6/7/00 article by Ben Rogers captures what this book is all about; excerpts from his article follow. "It was an era predating Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs and malpractice insurance, a time when doctors practiced the art of healing--a cheaper, simpler and more personal version of modern medicine....The 'Golden Age' of medicine ran from about 1940 to 1990 and was characterized by a more personal approach to patients. 'If you ask people today about their biggest problems with HMOs, they say that they never get enough time with their doctor,' said Blachley, a Nevada medical history enthusiast and author of Good Medicine. 'The majority of doctors practicing today are overburdened by paperwork and restricted reimbursement amounts, all brought about by the powerful medical insurance industry. Doctors used to have time to sit down and become friends with their patients.' Blachley decided against a traditional oral history approach to the book--which she said can sometimes turn aimless--and tried instead to tell a focused tale. "I...made it more of a story, a narrative of their lives,' she said.

Want a share of the billions that government spends?

If you want to learn how to use marketing to help get your company's share of the billions that the Federal, state and Local government spends every year, this book is a must read.

Having known him professionally for a number of years, I consider the author, Mark Amtower, to be the leading business-to-government marketing consultant in the USA.

This just released book is based on Amtower's hands-on experience and popular workshop series on marketing to the government. Its pages are loaded with useful resources, tips and suggestions for making the most of your government marketing dollars.

In the book, Amtower pops the myths associated with marketing to the government and replaces them with practical, tactical ideas on how to reach and influence government buyers.

He gives sage advice on everything from making your website government-friendly to using direct mail, email, space advertising, trade shows and public relations to target the important government influencers and buyers.

He also gives important tips on how to get your share of the projected $17.1 billion in "off schedule" sales represented by government employees with SmartPay credit cards.

I think the appendix alone is worth the cost of the book, giving you the short list of important resources needed to effectively market to the government.

Yes, I admit mark writes like he speaks; often in incomplete sentences and jumping from thought to thought and back again. But if you, like I, judge the success of a book by being able to take away a few good ideas that you can implement right away, I think you'll find this book is well worth reading."

I've decided that I need the same confidence that David had when he defeated the Giant. My life has been spiraling out of control recently and I doubt that I could conquer my own fears and doubts let alone a giant. Therefore I decided to order this book " A Guide to Confident Living." Only having the time to peruse a few pages it still has made me see how easy it is to erase self doubt and get with the program of Living Confidently. I'm very satisfied with this book and would highly recommend it to anyone that needs confidence in their life. It arrived in fine condition and in a timely manner as promised.

Dr. Peale begins with a lesson on listening to God in "creative silence", that in a worship atmosphere, a person can tap into God's thoughts and overcome the challenges of life. Bringing a spirit of expectancy is important if one is to achieve the desired results.
"...faith is the contact point with God's power" he tells us on page 12. He says a friend gave him a working definition of a competent church service, "The creation of an atmosphere in which a spiritual miracle can take place" (p. 12).
Dr. Peale reminds us of a theme found in a lot of his writings, one worth emphasis. He tell us to "supplant destructive thoughts with good ones, diseased thoughts with healthy ones" (p. 32).
Another one of his themes that he includes in this book has to do with the power of the mind to create. "There is a deep tendency in human nature to become like that which you image yourself to be" he quotes a psychologist as saying (p. 47).
Faith, confident assurance in God, releases powerful help on your behalf.
We're reminded of the power of the unseen in his description on page 82, "your life, or mine, is not determined by outward circumstances, but by the thoughts that habitually engage the mind." As a man thinks so he becomes.
He has such a powerful way of expressing truth. Consider the statement he makes on page 84, "A thought, properly employed, possesses a healing property."
If a person wants his life to be different, he should think different thoughts.
In a couple of places in the book he reminds us that Jesus Christ taught us to humble ourselves as children.
Toward the end of the book, a frank discussion of death is given. I strongly encourage you to get this book, if for no other reason to read this portion of it.
What you think determines what you become. What you become determines your life's work. Knowing how to live teaches one how to die.

Planning with God

Review Date: 2008-01-12
This book is a wonderful resource and encouragement for any churches looking to plan, especially those who want to plan with God. It asks those fundamental questions that we do not seem to remember to ask ourselves: who are we? who are we called to serve? It has more practical resources than you could or should ever use and the authors tell you that - not every exercise will be right for your church. Still, it is nice to have options and it is nice to have a book that actually talks about discernment instead of trying to co-opt the business model for churches.

This is a collection of articles brilliantly composed. Factual quality and research depth reflected by these well-written articles are impressive and respectable. A light touch humor made the reading even more enjoyable - at least for those who are not offended by the truth about corporate America.

From global warming issue to deceptive schemes in marketing strategies, the over-the-law and Enron-flavored attitudes of corporate Ameica were finally addressed and brought to the attention of the public. This book deserves to be a part of all students' education and thus, should be introduced to all highschool and college students. My 16-year-old really enjoyed the book and has lent it out to many friends.

The editors do a great job taking writings from diverse journals and magazines and putting them into a great anthology.

One subject area flows well into the next, and we are brought further and further down the road of a very terrifying trend in modern capitalism.

Even if your goal is to become a CEO, read this to understand just how corrupt and twisted is modern business. Read it to understand what kind of pact you are making with Satan.

As a former corporate CEO and advocate for getting special interest money out of our political system, I found this supporting my goals and was naturally drawn to it. It contains many essays adding weight to the subject.

Campaign funding allows corporations to get away with murder (sometimes literally) and it's just a matter of time before the public rebels strongly enough by throwing the current breed of politicians out. This book gives them reason to make that sooner rather than later.

As a Physician Assistant and an instructor in the Stanford Primary Care Associate Program, I highly recommend this book. Improving Primary Care: Strategies and Tools for a Better Practice is good reading for physician assistants and for doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners, who feel that their clinics or medical practices need to work in a better way. It is also good reading for patients who need to know what they can expect from a medical office or clinic. Why is it so hard to get an prompt appointment and what can be done about it? What does it mean to be "patient-centered"? Is the 15-minute visit with the primary care provider adequate to provide all the acute, chronic and preventive services that people need? If not, what can be done about it? All these questions and many more are discussed in detail in this readable book.

For anyone hoping to improve medical care in the US, this book is essential!
For readers new to the area, Drs. Grumbach and Bodenheimer clearly explain what the problems are and provide a systems' perspective on solutions that will truly transform health care.
For practitioners working in the area of chronic care improvement and primary care re-design: it's all here. This work draws heavily on the work of the Institute of Medicine's call for improved quality of health care, Dr. Ed Wagner's Chronic Care Model, microsystems analysis and other innovative tools to improve health care. It's all pulled together in a logical fashion and all the statistics, all the references you need to bolster an improvement project, are neatly contained in this very readable book.
