This is a fascinating CD which takes the listener into deep relaxed states in no time at all. I find that by listenibg to this CD I feel more energised and focussed! The only downside is that you have to wait a number of weeks here for it to be posted, but its worth the wait!

I'll be home for Christmas!

First, I think I'll mention Richard Bandler's name so as to give credence to my comments. On second thought, no, I won't either.

Having settled that, I can tell you that Nick really knows how to weave a trance that will keep you spellbound as you begin an inner adventure that will take you places you've never even dreamed of ... and yet ... will bring you safely home again. To your own, true self.

Nick is a master of both indirect and direct hypnotic suggestion, yet even as he gives you direct instructions, you still know ... at the same time ... that the direct suggestions in here are just to set you free.

Free from fear. Free from compulsion. Free from pain.

I've listened to the CD twice so far and I'm here to tell you that after the first listening, only, I discovered I had recovered my old sense of confidence.

And now. Now that I have that sense of confidence instilled deep within me ... never to be wrested away again, I can only wonder what I might decide to do with ... and because of ... it.

If you, like me, don't easily experience deep trance ... I'd suggest you give this CD a listen. It's well worth your time!

A wonderful CD

This is a wonderful CD from Nick Kemp who studied with Richard Bandler the creator of NLP.The CD takes the listener on a magical ride into deep relaxation and altered states and produces a great sense of well being. The music is fantastic and the intricate use of hypnosis makes this an important product for students of NLP and hypnosis.

Nick Kemp has achieved something quite remarkable with this CD. By mixing skilfully crafted music, and in language that everyone can follow, he carefully guides the listener through many of the concepts of meditation. But more than this the CD gives anyone the chance to experience some of the altered states of consciousness that meditation promises. The music may remind you at times of "Revolver", while the opening tamboura-like drone, and tabla, point to the source, Nada Brahma - Sound Is God. Truth seekers and sceptics alike will find flashes of insight here that might lead to further exploration, which I guess is what Nick Kemp has set out to encourage. Highly recommended.

Professor Bonnicksen has devoted his career to the care and protection of the forests. Where public relations folks talk the talk, Professor Bonnicksen walks the walk. Ancient Forests is a tour through history, a tour de forest that takes us from ancient lands and brings us to the present day, making us realize that from the forest we came and from the forests we shall go. A member of the Congressional Commission charged with oversight of American forest and land use and a devoted conservationist, Professor Bonnicksen in this brilliant volume brings many of his themes expounded in shorter articles and books together in a densely forested wood of pine and deciduous scented brilliance. After reading this book, no one will pass a tree and look at it the same, ever, again. Kudos to Professor Bonnicksen of Texas A & M University.

This book could have been titled America's Ancient Landscapes. One of the pleasant surprises about this book is that it deals with all types of landscapes: prairies, barrens, savannas, and all types of wetlands, as well as forests. For those of us in the Midwest, who deal with all of those types, this is a great bonus. Bonnicksen gives us the needed background, through the tremendous changes of the ice age and the plant migrations that followed, to the landscape affects of the Native Americans, to be able to knowledgeably manage natural areas, and restorations. The background on the Indians is so very thorough. You can't help but acquire a new impression of how important and ubiquitous their influence was. What I really like about this book is the complete documentation, done in the old fashioned way, with footnotes! The chapter on fire had 317 footnotes, all of which can be looked up in first the Notes and Citations, then in the extensive Bibliography, which alone covers 75 pages! This is a great reference work. If you can't afford it, get your local library to purchase a copy. I did!

Excellent grouping of ideas. The author doesn't talk down to you, doesn't talk over your head, and doesn't have the ego of saying he knows everything. This is current, timely, and easy to read. The adhoc diagrams are exactly the kind of medium that is effective to architects. I'm buying another and requiring the entire office to read it.

This book is a wonderful source for architecture firm owners, and employees working in small firms. The "hands-on" diagrams give you the clear vision on proceedures, rules, and guides. Included in this book are tips, and tools you can use to organize yourself, understand cause and effect relations, and help you work more efficiently. Great not only to read, but I use it as a reference often. I have hundreds of books, but this is one of the select few that resides on my desk!

I have used this book as a text book in many Change Agent classes I have taught and have found it to be a very pragmatic and useful guide. It is a shame that it is out of print now. In fact, the last class I tought, I had to go scrounging around the office to find copies on bookshelves to use. I wish they would republish it.

The list of consequences "when bad things happen to good projects" or What-NOT-To-Do is worth the price of the book. I wish I had read this book before starting my 6+ years as a consultant helping organizations to improve. This book presents most of the lessons that I've learned during those years and gives quite a few additional ideas on organization change.

Don't let the garish cover art distract you. This is a solidly good book, which I regularly recommend to my clients. Of course, I can't vouch for the Price Waterhouse consulting group's ability to get clients to change successfully or whether they even follow their own advice. I just know that I do apply the best ideas in this book (plus some of my own) in my consulting practice.

It takes you through the basics of change mangement, and makes you aware of just what you're dealing with. Good, practical advice that made me wear out a highlighter. When I showed it to other IS people on our Oracle software implementation project, they said "that's us"!!! We didn't realize we were in the middle of a change project - now we can try to take a step back and regroup.

I baught this book at first just so I can see how I would feel about getting into real estate. Let me tell you, I studied the book, took the C21 course (we went over the same material that was in the book but rushed through it in class)then took and finished my state exam in a little over a half hour (3-31/2 hour test if I remember correctly).

Believe me when I say, this book helped me a lot. I don't think I would have past the state exam with just taking the crash course.

I have been in real esate for a year now :). Thank you, Mr. Pivar

I had the chance to hear first hand at a recent International Society for Performance Improvement conference how Roger use's the book in practice and I was captivated by the implications. The Mega Thinking and Planning model he describes in the book (along with practical tools and process flow charts) provides a holistic planning approach that integrates a truly "sustainable" approach for organizations that benefits the societal systems a business impacts or influences. If every company practiced this approach, humanity would be one big step further in making progress.

The book also has some practical decision trees based on systems thinking for developing objectives that I have never seen anywhere else.

Roger Kaufman continues to offer practical guidance on how to align your decisions, no matter your profession, with the value you are providing others. From societal partners and other indirect clients to the direct clients of your organization and your colleagues down the hall, the theories, frameworks, models, processes, and tools provided in this book are of great value when you want to align your decisions with their long-term impacts. As in several of his other books, Kaufman takes what could be "heady" ideas and puts them into easy to use lessons that most any of us can apply.

Review Date: 2007-02-20
I am very familiar with Dr. Kaufman's more scholarly books and publications and I find his ability to distill some of his more academic work down into a practical, yet research-supported, book to be very welcomed. His emphasis that we focus on useful results plus his guidelines for getting there provide excellent tools for both academics and practitioners. The book also provides numerous models, tables and flow charts that makes understanding and implementing the concepts much easier. Finally, Kaufman's call for us to consider society as the ultimate beneficiary of all we do, use and produce should provide a wake-up call to everyone who reads the book. Yes, we can have a positive impact on society, our organizations, our companies, our communities, our families and ourselves. Read Kaufman's book and you'll find out how.

The case studies presented were interesting and well-written. They grabbed the reader's attention. Some of the cases were useful to me as an instructor, but my needs are focused on cases that relate to federal/state/local government audit issues. I don't regret getting the book, as many of the issues raised are relevant and helpful to new auditors.

Review Date: 2005-06-21
This is a compendium of almost everything that one might need to create or improve existing orientation programs. From best practices in orientation videos, small businesses, intern & buddy programs to case studies from companies like Ford and Alcatel.

The book also includes numerous useful lists, tools and aids that can be reproduced or used as a basic template for planning new orientation as well as evaluating and improving existent programs. In other words, this is a practical book filled with implementable ideas and suggestions guaranteed to make your new hires feel 'special' and at the same time, taking them through all the knowledge and information bits that they need to learn in a fun and engaging manner.

I found the case studies chapters very informative and particularly enjoyed Part 5 of the book: Orientation Games & Activities which includes 18 very useful and effective games like the hunt for company policies which turns a normally boring part of any orientation program into a really fun activity.

Also quite useful was the Part 6: Orientation Checklists & Surveys covering such areas as 'Before the Employee's First Day'; 'I'm New Here - What Should I Learn?'; and 'A 90-day New Employee Survey'.

Easy to read and accessible, this book offers hope for the future of our schools. The model that he proposes for school leadership is both practical and filled with great ideals...anyone who has worked in a school will know that the author "knows his stuff."

Author's Synopsis
Helpful Votes: 31 out of 31 total.
Review Date: 2001-03-22
This little volume scrapes away the layers of thinking and strategies that have built up over the years and have been proferred to school principals. It begins with the simple, underlying question: "How is it that schools can be lead?"

And it begins with a simple goal: to develop a practical model of school leadership that promises to address the two most pressing issues facing school leadership today: 1) serve the learning needs of children and their communities and 2) prove practicable and fulfilling to leaders themselves.

From this point of origin, Gordon Donaldson casts a fresh eye on what he calls "the everyday realities" that surround people who seek to lead. He finds in his chapters entitled "The Conspiracy of Busyness" and "The Planetary Culture of Schools" that if people approach leadership in the classical paradigm of "one organization, one leader", they are destined to fail in schools.

Donaldson then generates a provocative new model that he argues is "congruent with the everyday realities of schools". Building from the work of Barth, Rost, Heifetz, Helgesen, Sergiovanni, and Darling-Hammond, he proposes a relational model in which leadership is "plural" - blended among people with diverse roles, talents, and responsibilities but who share a common purpose and a disposition for action. Leadership, he claims, engages three intertwining "streams" of a school's life: relationships among adults and between adults and children; purposes and commitments to them; and the belief that "we act in common" to attain our purposes.

The bulk of Gordon Donaldson's book explores what principals and teacher leaders can do to participate in leadership in the three streams. In doing so, he helps us distinguish between these two roles (both of which he claims are absolutely essential to a strong school). He goes on to examine, then, what particular skills and dispositions stand principals and teacher leaders in good stead as they go about this important work. Here, he calls upon the work of Daniel Goleman, Nel Noddings, Robert Evans, and Peter Senge among others.

The book's grounding in "realities" gives it resonance for teachers, principals, counselors, and even citizen leaders. Its descriptions of leader activities and the skills necessary for them makes it useful to people intent on learning to lead and searching for a more useful model for their own leadership experience.
