I was fortunate to hear Bri Maya Tiwari speak at the Southwest Yoga Conference...simply because our booth was in the same room as the scheduled lecture...what a blessing! Her methods which incorporate the healing nature of sound, food, and breathing are easy to understand and implement if one truly desires attunement with the natural rythms of life...I immediately bought her book, and have begun to use many of the techniques to bring my life closer to the truth and balance we are designed to live...

Bri Maya Tiwari has shared some of her very personal stories of her own life and healing journey. Her wisdom she shares throughout the book is priceless and timeless. She has again, as in her other books, made available to the world, simple life nuturing and sustaining methods that will enable all those who read her book to start or stay on their path of living in a vibrant and healthy way. Through her books and workshops I have been able to heal myself of seasonal allergies and have also begun to heal some deep ancestorial/family issues. I recommend this book highly.

I have read this book and found it to be absolutely wonderful. It is filled with helpful, practical and attainable suggestions for developing a daily practice that will bring you back to yourself. Bri Maya tells her own healing journey which is healing in itself just reading it. The stories of those she has encountered along her path and how she has helped them help themselves are so moving and brought me to tears more than once. I highly recommend this book, and not only for women. There are healing therapies recommended for women, but are good for men to know as well. The food information, setting up your kitchen, realizing that food is so much more than just fuel is information that will change your life, and again, show you your truest self. I recently gave this book to a friend. She said, "Well, I don't think I'll read it but I think it will give good energy just being on my bookshelf." I agreed with what she said about the good energy, but I recommend reading this book. It is written by an enlightened woman teaching us in a time when so many things pull us away from our path, or dharma and ourselves. This book is one opportunity to look within and gives suggestions to develop a practice of doing so in our daily lives.

As a beginner in the study of Vedic Practice, Bri Maya has written in words much that is wonderful, soft and serene. Perhaps the most difficult portion to describe is what is written between her lines.

The tender and affectionate tone of her words conveys all that I have hoped Ayurveda would be. She is a shinning example of what can be accomplished when a science based on infinite wisdom is applied with love.

Bri Maya has titled her book " A Womans Book of Ayurvedic Healing" and while I don't know her true intent here surely this is a lovely book for anyone. I was in awe and am now an official fan.

Bri. Maya Tiwari is a rare soul who is totally dedicated to helping people renew their spiritual selves. For years I have been aware of the healing value of food, breath, and sound, but this book helped me understand these practices as interrelated, spiritual concepts. The Path of Practice was a great, general boost for me to get serious about my spiritual practice and I have since been inspired to maintain a daily yoga practice. And I never imagined that grinding mustard seeds by hand would induce such a calmness and meditative stillness. And, there is much wonderful information in this book that is applicable to men too.

This little book was great. I was able to keep in on my kitchen counter and just browse through it whenever I found a few spare minutes. It has a ribbon bookmark to keep your place, but it's also nice because you don't have to necessarily read it in order.

Having known Tracy at my church for almost 3 years, she was the one who actually made me see prayer "out of the box". This wonderful book takes that conversation to a higher level and it allows others to benefit from a more personal relationship with Christ by understanding that prayer doesn't have to be a formalized process. We can talk to our Father all day long!

The reviewer prior to myself I feel summed it up best when describing this book. The author has written the book as if she's always been your trusted friend. She writes in a way as if she is actually talking to you.

Other books I've read often come across a bit too technical and slightly over my head. This one is more down-to-earth, packed with good advice, and one can sense her sincere concern for the reader to understand.

I really love the entire book, especially the chapter dealing with ethics. Since there are many "seasoned" designers who seem to lack ethical conduct, this book is great for beginners and veterans alike.

What a great book! Fishman's book gives a comprehensive overview of a subject only one in a thousand knows anything about. The Public Domain.

The public domain consists of art, music, literature, software, etc. that belongs to no one and can be repurposed by anyone for other use.

If you and your community group wanted to stage a musical version of Tom Sawyer set in the year 2502, you can do this very easily as Tom Sawyer (and all of Mark Twain's works) are in the public domain. There are no licensing fees.

Fishman gives you a methodology for finding and locating works and for understanding how to track them down and protect yourself should someone want to press a claim against (most likely spurious)

Highly recommended.

Cheers!

Excellent explanation of copyright

Copyright law is complex, sometimes counter-intuitive, and the rules change for each media type. This excellent book not only gives you the basics of copyright law, it expands on the specifics of the law for various media types. The best part of this book, the most brilliant part in my opinion, is the addition of a checklist for each media type. With this checklist, you can verify that your item is in the public domain or if it requires copyright permission. The checklist replaces an expensive copyright law attorney for cases where you can figure it out yourself. Anyone producing media for the public or using media released to the public should own this book. It is an invaluable resource in my professional library.

I made the mistake of buying the first edition of this book (published in 2001), but found it to be an excellent guide to the legal issues involved with public domain textual material. I have already published one book which relied heavily on public domain materials, and am working on a second, and when I bought this book I had several specific questions that I was trying to answer. This book answered all of them, as well as some that I hadn't thought of! I'll probably end up buying the second edition, just to see what has changed in the last few years.

One of the most useful books I have ever encountered

This fat and informative book is a goldmine for anyone interested in public domain works, whether writings, music, art, films or just about anything else. The author, Attorney Stephen Fishman, begins with an examination of copyright laws and the public domain. After that, the book begins each of the chapters on copyrightable materials with a handy checklist for use in determining public domain status, and then launches into a discussion of how to determine the public domain status of such an item. After those useful chapters, the author examines the use of copyrighted and public domain works.

This is one of the most useful books I have ever encountered. It contains most everything you need to know in determining the public domain status of a work, and it is organized in a simple, easy-to-use format (ala the ___ for Dummies books), that is sure to inform the reader, and never lose him or her. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in whether or not something is in the public domain, and thus open to free use.

I probably had the wrong expectations for this book but I was hoping it would (quickly) help me validate whether info I've used required permission. I suppose it did this in an indirect way, however, the free use stuff included old songs etc. that were not appropriate for my topic.

Book is well written so long as it fits with what you need to validate.

Compelling, compassionate, committed

Review Date: 2004-03-03
Marissa is erudite, quick, fun, funny, committed to social justice and truth, and and an acute observer of human behavior. Her friend Johnnie Cochran describes her (in the introduction!) as "a prosecutor's prosecutor. She is full of zeal for her profession and possesses an insider's knowledge of the criminal justice system." She's also devoted herself to Buddhism for over 30 years, as well as to the mastery of the culinary arts. All of these elements figure in her very unusual book.

Besides telling three compelling and hair-raising tales, Marissa shares aloud the unspoken rules of the courtroom, and offers appreciative and insightful looks into the lives of law enforcement professionals, and denizens of South Central LA and the gay demimonde of Hollywood.

As a skillful storyteller, she is compassionate without becoming maudlin, and righteous without losing her sense of humor.

I am looking forward to her next book, which I understand is under way!

Marissa has the heart of a warrior. Her stories are classic story telling with spell binding revelations of what the truth is when it comes to crimes and the criminal mind. Her attention to detail, coupled with a sense of the world of the victim, allows the reader to be a prosecutor seeking justice for the people. The criminal procedural aspects of the criminal courts are cleanly explained with no chance of misunderstanding that lawyering is still an art when done with a heart. Marissa injects the calmness of her buddhist philosophy into the psyche of the reader to allow a deeper appreciation of the law and the victim equation.

Ready for Ms. Batt

Review Date: 2004-02-06
As a criminal defense attorney, I usually avoid "true accounts" written by prosecutors as they tend to be one-sided, self-serving renditions of cases that could be won by a first year law student. The usual story involves a clear cut case where the District Attorney is representing the forces of right (the good people of the State) while the defense is usually some bad dude who deserves a long vacation in Prison. Of course the good guys prevail and the prosecutor is the hero. Good and Evil, Right and Wrong are clearly defined and everybody leaves happy. Not so with Ms. Batt's book. Besides her personal disappointment at the result of one of her cases, she manages to show that all is not black and white - urban life and particularly the criminal justice system present a myriad of situations where the lines become blurred. Her cases are interesting in that there are victims - individuals who by virtue of their own life choices are often viewed as not deserving of protection by the law and the system. Besides showing the underside of life, Batt also manages to forcefully demonstrate the maxim that "no man is above the law and no man is below it."
A great read, colorful, fast paced and real...I loved it.

...of the L.A. justice system. I won't repeat the other reviews, but two or three things deserve note. First, Johnnie Cochran wrote the introduction...high praise indeed. Second, the appendix - "Twenty-five rules for giving effective testimony" - is interesting reading in itself. Overall, the book is not compelling reading, not forcing you to read it in one sitting, but it's interesting and varied. I consumed it in three sittings if memory serves. The pace is generally good, although I felt the Buddhism dragged a bit, but that was only a couple of instances. So - recommended - *especially* if you are a fan of mysteries set in Los Angeles! I await Marissa Batt's next work with more than a little interest.

What makes this book so compelling is that you get to hear the perspective of the actual prosecutor in the cases described. Through Marissa Batt's words, you get a virtual tour of the way the Los Angeles legal system works, or in some cases doesn't work. You are introduced to characters that actually inhabit Los Angeles, who actually went through the situations described - cases that are so intense and bizarre, they seem unbelievable. Through it all, you get a comprehensive version of the legal system mirroring human lives and decisions, as seen through the eyes of a person who does their job with integrity, intensity, and strength of character. READ THIS BOOK! It is a thorougly enjoyable read though shocking and extremely upsetting at times.

This is a wonderfully inspiring book documenting Henri's journey from Ivy League professor to the priest of a community of people with severe disabilities. His story reminds us that the crux of the Christian life is not flashiness and worldly success, but that it comes from being a servant to the needy and poor of our world. As Henri shares his fears, anxieties, and triumphs of his journey, we are encouraged to face the things keeping us from fully giving our life to the poor (be it mentally, spiritually, financially, emotionally, etc.) and/or are encouraged in the work we are already doing with people society has cast aside. If the 11th chapter of Hebrews was rewritten, Henri Nouwen would be another example of someone who showed great faith in God by taking God at his word and going to a new place where he knew not what would happen to him. As a special education teacher who is involved in the community of people with disabilities, I found Henri to be a true inspiration and encouragement to continue ministering to--and certainly being ministered to by people who have disabilities. This book would be an encouragement to anyone who wants their life to reflect some of the most central teachings of Jesus.

I learned a great deal about Fr Henri Nouwen from this book. THE ROAD TO DAYBREAK: A Spiritual Journey is his intimate diary that records the poignant year at L'Arche that began in the summer of 1985, a precious time of inner renewal and self-discovery. In his prologue, Fr Nouwen writes, "In the following pages there are words about L'Arche, about prayer, about living with handicapped people, about art, about city life, about filmmaking, about AIDS, about conflicts in the church, about Paris, London, San Francisco and Los Angeles, about Canada and a future there, and about many other small and great people and events. What binds them together in their wide variety is the spiritual struggle to say 'yes' to Jesus' invitation 'Come and follow me.'" It is this description of his spiritual journey and development over the year that is most intriguing to me. From reading these pages, I feel as though I have spoken to a friend whom I know quite well. Well enough to know his strengths in patience and tolerance, yet, also well enough to become annoyed at his foibles, Particularly, Fr Nouwen's incessant need for validation from his friends. Still, it is most striking to me the complete commitment that he has to serving his LORD. "Being in the world without being of it involves hard work." reads his entry for 10 May, "It requires a clear vision of what I want to do and how to do it. It requires a discipline of the eyes, the mind, and the heart. It requires a deep desire, as well as a strong commitment to live without interruptions in the name of Jesus." I learned of the discipline required by a desire to seek our unity in and through Jesus, the Christ. As Fr Nouwen described his work, I became aware that I am severely handicapped, myself. Although, I am blessed to be physically and mentally capable, I must confess I am spiritually handicapped. I can barely communicate in my spiritual relationship. I am challenged to maintain a consistent spiritual commitment, and I am completely dependent on the grace and mercy of the LORD, my GOD, in whose presence, I am. This insight which I received from reading this book has changed the way I view my own spiritual life and has strengthened that relationship. If you are interested in the life of Fr Henri Nouwen, or in a spiritual relationship as lived by someone, this book will be interesting to you. Although Fr Nouwen is a Catholic Priest, I think that people of all faiths and beliefs who are interested in a spiritual quest will gain from its reading. PEACE

this book was a gift to my mom when she retired from her work about 5 years ago. i don't know how it interested me but i did read it from cover to cover. as i went along, i couldn't help but identify with henri nouwen. our situation in life may not be the same but i swear i've been feeling everything that he has been feeling. his joys, his sorrows, his nostalgia, his fears. and i couldn't help but find hope each time he talks about his little triumphs over himself and over the world. i was particularly moved by the fact that though he is a priest he was so keenly aware of his need for appreciation, affection, attention and respect. my own needs that i have been wanting to ignore for fear of appearing needy and vulnerable. and besides it's senseless to get them if you will just be humiliated in the end. the worst humiliation i guess is the reproach you give yourself for not knowing to act at situations which is otherwise very ordinary to ordinary people. it is the shame of finding out you have a delusion of grandeur. it is inspiring to note that henri nouwen lived through it all and found meaning to all of them. when he did, i found meaning to each of mine's struggles too. his acceptance and redirection of his need for intimacy made me realize that even this need can be harnessed for something better. in sharing his journey i had a journey of my own. my struggles have not ended. it is lifetime. but every now and then, i would remember exerpts this book. and i become more appreciative of myself, of the people who have been a part of me and the people who are yet to be a part of my growth. i believe, a lot of people would have the same benefits that it gave me if ever they read the book.

I just finished reading The Root of Rejection, and it was at least the third time that I've read it. I may even read it again in the future. This book is a good introduction to the topic of rejection and it's impact on people. If rejection or trying to be accepted by people have been issues in your life, you may find yourself, or some of your behaviors, on the pages of this book.

This is a short book and is not difficult to read. It will give you things to ponder and pray about as you read it. For me, the book helped me to understand what rejection is and how certain situations in my life caused me to feel rejected, how I changed as a result of those experiences and how rejection impaired my perception of myself and other people. It made me aware of specific issues, perceptions and behaviors to address with other resources/materials and in prayer.

This book presents that instead of basing your self-worth on acceptance by other people, you should base your self-worth on God's acceptance and who are you in Christ. I have read other books that say the same thing, but I don't totally agree with it. What about people who aren't Christians? On what do they base their self-worth? hmmmmm. I believe that people have to come to their own conclusions about the basis of their self-worth and that it probably changes somewhat over time.

There is a slight bit of a Word of Faith slant to the book. It wasn't very overbearing (to me), so even if Word of Faith ideas are not your cup of tea, the book can still benefit you. In fact, perhaps only someone who is familiar with the Word of Faith would pick up on it. At any rate, I recommend the book as an introduction to identifying and overcoming rejection. I do believe that additional resources and time will be needed to kill the root of rejection. Read everything with discernment and your Bible on hand.

Joyce explains her controlling ways, and with God's Word how we all can break away and be free from the bondage of "controlling-ness." The question is what side do you want to be on.

Joyce Meyer teaches in the same manner that Christ does, with love and firmness. If you have experienced enough rejection "to leave scars" as she mentions in her book, Beauty for Ashes, then this is definitely a must-read! She walks you through all the aspects of rejection, stating that we must get to the root of the problem is we're ever to be replanted in righteousness. This book is an easy read, with examples from her own life as well as others. She writes in a way that is comforting while she teaches. She does not beat around the bush for you to figure out the gaps. Instead, she sympathizes with you when she says it won't be easy and that it takes commitment as well as time spent in God's word if we truly want to break free from the bondage. There is victory on the other side!

I highly recommend this book for its excellent coverage of law in a clear and concise manner. A superior reference for students in educational administration, practicing school leaders, or for teachers that need clarity on issues that deal with broad legislation. I have no criticism whatsoever. However, if you need specific state laws this may not be the best resource for you. This book belongs in every public school library in the country, in every classroom, and in every administrative office in our educational system. Thanks for such a great book!

This text is great, as it thoroughly explains the important educational laws and statues that teachers and administrators need to succeed in an ever-changing and evolving school setting. It is up-to-date and provides example cases and scenarios which are helpful in putting the material into the context of an individual's school environment. However, some information is slightly redundant and re-stated throughout the course of the book.

Outstanding Book!

This book is a must have if you are going to pursue a school administrative degree. It is very detail and informative. The content of this book is written well and allows the reader to gain the knowledgeable information that is needed in order to address the issues and adhere to the policies and laws that govern our society as it relates to school, equality, and fairness.

I am finding this book to be inspirational and insighful. I feel called to reach out to seekers and this is giving me confidence that I can do it in a way consistent with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, our mother father God.

This is THE manual for seeker small group leaders, or, potential leaders. It's clearly written by someone that has done it. Alot. Some books are written from a theoretical point of view, and that can be good, but this book is written by someone right off the front lines. It's obvious throughout the book. This should be required reading for anyone, or any church, starting a seeker small group program.

I cannot recommend this book more highly - it is the definitive text on how to run one of the world's most important ministries: seeker small groups. Garry has developed an approach to seeker small groups that is counter-intuitive, insightful, and most importantly, proven effective in his 25+ years of leading groups.

Not only does the book offer well-thought-out concepts for approaching seeker small groups, but it gets painstakingly practical in how to apply them. It even offers step-by-step instructions on how to prepare for and run the first few meetings, questions to ask, and logistical tips. Anyone that reads the book will be prepared and inspired to lead a seeker small group, regardless of his/her level of evangelical "giftedness" or experience.

Finally, the book is an engaging and enjoyable read, peppered with captivating stories of individuals whose lives have been changed by the very groups Garry has led or inspired.

If you are considering starting a seeker small group, this is a must-read before launching. If you are not, you owe it to yourself to read this book to understand the immense impact these groups can have on the lives of people far from God.

Not a fan of forming a group just to talk about spiritual things in hopes of being able to share the gospel.

I know for a fact, the majority of people love talking to strangers about spiritual things almost immediately.

Its a lie to think you have to arrange a time and place and to build relationships with people to share the gospel or to get them to a point where they are open to spiritual truths.

The good: This book is written by a great guy with a heart for God. I just don't agree with everything but thats ok. I like the chapters on how to facilitate a small group, keep interest, ask questions, etc. They are valuable insight into the psychology of group management and how people think.

I need to make clear: This book is good. Set up a seeker small group. Its great to do this. I've done it. But 1on1 evangelism is crucial too, even if you don't have the "skills". Just start spiritual conversations with strangers or friends and watch how far they go. The gospel can be shared easily and without force. These seeker small groups are good too, but should not be a major time taker like this book promotes.

Check out thewayofthemaster.com and especially Mark Cahills "One Thing You Can't do in Heaven" for some great evangelism literature that anyone can follow and be encouraged with.

Breaking the mold on traditional evangelism strategy

Not sure of how, exactly, my glowing review of Garry's book would be conveyed, I surveyed some other reviews already posted. The most negative stated:

"Its a lie to think you have to arrange a time and place and to build relationships with people to share the gospel or to get them to a point where they are open to spiritual truths."

I would like to thank the author of this review for giving me the words with which to praise Garry's book. If I may paraphrase the line, above, it says that "you don't need to spend so much time in relationship-building in order to accomplish your agenda of sharing the Gospel."

The point of Garry's book, I believe, is that building a relationship IS sharing the Gospel!!! Loving people and creating a safe environment for them isn't a means to sharing the Gospel, it IS the Gospel!!!

As someone involved in vocational ministry, I would like to thank Garry for teaching me how to leave my hidden agenda aside, so that I may accomplish God's agenda. This book breaks the mold of our thinking, where evangelism is relegated to doing anything possible to force the Gospel down a person's throat at any time.

By putting into practice the philosophy of this book, we are able to BE the Good News in a person's life while, at the same time, providing a forum where a seeker may be comfortably introduced to fellowship and accountability as they take their first steps on a path which will eventually lead them to an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior.

simple and clean, rather go through all of the sites to search what you actually need to register your company, this book guide you through that. also, book v.s. web sites, the book gives you more insight to cross comparison on all the legal structures that you need to choose, pros and cons, to make you select what fits you, instead of reading laws on the web only tell you what is LLC and etc. I will keep it although I formed my company after reading this book.

If you are thinking of starting your own business in California, especially if you have never done it before, you will find that this book is worth its weight in gold.

This resource takes the complication out of starting a business, contacting the right agencies and doing things legally. It cuts through a lot of confusion, has an encouraging tone and presents what you need to know in a very logical and easy to understand format.

I often recommend this book to my small business clients and find it to be a useful general reference. It also points to many other good resources and is a good value for such a comprehensive book.

It is well written and easy to understand. Not a lot of legal jargon that you have to wade through, but legal nevertheless. I will continue to use it for a reference.
Thank you for such a easy to read and understand book!

This book saved me a lot of money by allowing me to form my own one-owner California corporation. I liked the fact that it explained why it wasn't recommending certain things so that you could decide whether it was worth it to you or not.

The only area that I felt it could have explained things more thoroughly was that while it explained how to issue initial shares, it didn't explain at all how to issue any subsequent shares (e.g., in case your corporation was about to run out of money and you (the owner) wanted to buy more shares to inject more capital). It just said to consult a lawyer. So I had to inject more capital via a loan instead. If it's that complicated, then perhaps the author should warn people to slightly overcapitalize the corporation initially.
