If you are trying to get a handle on your credit issues and don't know where to start, I strongly suggest you purchase this book. Best Credit is a great read - and, in my opinion, the best of all of the credit repair books available. The author, Dana Neal, provides a super clear road map to great credit, while at the same time offering a fascinating and even entertaining journey into the twisted world of credit reporting and the collection industry.

This book is really well structured and easy to read, a relief considering the complex and legal nature of the issues. Mr. Neal starts with the basics and eases into the more difficult subjects in an understandable way that really brings them to life. If you have had any type of credit issues, as I have, this book will really open your eyes. You will also find that the author offers extremely clear and practical instructions on resolving your problems. And if you have ever had to deal with a collector, this book will leave you feeling absolutely empowered. I recommend it highly.

There are other decent books on this topic, but this the one to own. This is not something you read in one sitting (unless you have a simple issue). Take your time in reading it and take notes as it is very detailed. Then, Take Action, and if needed, read it again and again.

I was NOT thrilled with this book. It was recommended to me so I would be able to help a couple of friends of mine clean up their credit. The book doesn't read well. The only good thing was the CD however I could have gone online and downloaded the same forms. I'm sorry I wasted the money.

I met Lolly Anderson when she opened her home to law students of her alma mater to share the passion for life she expresses in this book. Single, 20 something and in law school can be overwhelming for a woman. Inspiration is much needed in my life, and this book gave me what I needed. Lolly's refuse to give up spirit that led her through most people's worst nightmares (cancer, divorce, bankruptcy)allowed me to appreciate each day. My friends and I even went and got the Statue of David on our fridge in hopes of finding a prince charming.

I am very impressed w/Lolly's book and plan to purchase many copies of it for my friends and family for Christmas! Her words are music to my ears and I want to tell everyone of her wonderful wisdom. I carry her book in my purse and take it out and re-read it b/c it is full of positive affirmations I can always use in my everyday life. I can relate to the heartaches life hands out (divorce, death, etc.) and still do my very best to maintain a healthy and happy attitude. Everyone needs to know they deserve to be happy in life and this book will do it! Well done Lolly! Please write another book b/c your viewpoint feels like home! Laurie R. Gillespie

Lolly's example is one of triumph beyond what our natural vision can bring and the reliance on the unseen goodness that awaits anyone who's willing to venture to that place of audacious wonderment. She had many "reasons" not to believe things would come to her or work out, but she held on to the dream and was not averted by fear, which can derail many dreams. This book will show you how to move through any situation and to create dreams that will allow you to live to your fullest potential. Thank you, Lolly! - Gina Rowsam

A Reluctant Review by the Author

Review Date: 2008-01-10
I am the author of "Hurricanes & Rainbows-Finding Life's Promise After the Storm," and although I am reluctant to submit a review of my own work, I am doing so at the urging of my publisher. "H&R" was never meant to be published. I wrote the pages of what came to be the finished work during a 28-day period in the summer of '06--nearly a year after experiencing two life-changing events--the breakup of an 8-year relationship and the ravages of Hurricane Katrina in my native New Orleans. These devastating events were closely followed by eight more which were equally as challenging. By the time I had endured #10, I was completely out of sorts--so much so that I finally came to the end of myself and sought professional help (something I swore I would never do!).

Long story short, my therapy "did the trick" and I finally got my life back. As part of my therapy, I decided to embark on a much-needed catharsis, which was accomplished through writing what I believed would always remain for "my eyes only." After trusted friends read the manuscript, they encouraged me to pursue publishing, which I did, and the rest is history. Now that my work is in print, my hope is that readers will find hope and encouragement when faced with storms along life's journey. To borrow a quote from the author, "I have learned that without the storms of life there can be no rainbows." Rainbows do await the storm-tossed traveler; yours may be just beyond the next storm cloud.

If you read the book and are encouraged in any way, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached by email at hurricanerainbow@aol.com. Please visit my website at: www.hurricanesandrainbows.com. God bless you on your way--Mark

I wasn't looking for "self-help" when I received Hurricanes & Rainbows as a gift. What I found was self-awareness and confidence to meet life's disappointments with grace and hope. Mr. Armstrong's poignant story of his life's experiences both tragic and happy were true inspiration. He writes from his soul bringing his readers along on his journey as if you were going through the experiences at his side. If you didn't know Mark before reading Hurricanes & Rainbows you will call him friend at the end of his story. To have survived any of the events described takes courage and strength. Having survived all of the events since Aug 2005 and still be able to smile and have compassion for others is simply amazing. Finding a penny will now always be a blessing thanks to this book. I look forward to reading the sequel once Mr. Armstrong finds his Rainbow.

This was not an enjoyable book to read--at least not the parts that described all of the life events that led to Mr. Armstrong's depression. However, it was a highly rewarding read. I am happy that Mr. Armstrong got his life back. I am glad he learned how to cope with the lousy hand his life dealt him. I am grateful that he wrote about his experiences, however painful it must have been for him to do so. His book will serve an important purpose. His words will inspire the downcast, encourage the weary, and lift up the fallen. His book did all three for me. No, I didn't much like this book...I loved it!

Sad, yet victorious journey!

Nearly everyone has suffered loss and grief at some point in their lives. Many people battle depression following these painful events. Most of us have experienced many of the same losses as Mr. Armstrong. We've had our hearts broken after a failed relationship ends in a breakup or divorce. We've lost loved ones to death, maybe even violent death. We've dealt with financial problems, perhaps even bankruptcy. We've moved to new cities, taken new jobs, leaving behind famiily, friends, and our sense of security. We've buried our beloved pets. We may have even been hit by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. The difference between most of us and Mr. Armstrong is that for the vast majority of people, painful episodes such as these are usually spread out over a lifetime. For him, they all occured in less than a year! How he recovered from such a series of events is beyond me. But he did. His book can and will encourage any reader who faces hardship and pain in life, like me and like you. This book will show you how to never give up. It will show you how to learn and grow in your faith, not only in God, but in yourself. If you have faced problems in your life, read Hurricanes & Rainbows. You'll be stronger for having read this sad yet victorious journey.

There is hope after hopelessness.

It's been two long years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans, the city I call home. In those two years, I've read everything I could get my hands on that had been written about the storm, including Douglas Brinkley's The Great Deluge, Jed Horne's Breach Of Faith, as well as countless others. I've watched Spike Lee's documentary, The Day The Levees Broke. And they are all wonderful! This book, Hurricanes & Rainbows, gives the storm's fury a human face--one man and his dog struggling to get out of harm's way. But that man was already beaten down by another storm he endured three weeks before Katrina. That storm clouded his thinking and caused him to think irrationally in a seemingly hopeless situation. Katrina was only his second storm; there would be eight more to follow in close succession. The city of New Orleans has been slow to rebuild. Fortunately, Mr. Armstrong has rebounded much quicker. His storm story is an inspiration to me as a New Orleanian, but more importantly, as a kindred spirit who has endured his share of his own storms in life. If he can find his rainbow, then surely so can I. I have and I will continue to ride the waves and somehow manage to stay afloat. This book will encourage you to weather life's storms, knowing that you can and will prevail in the end. Extremely well written and blatantly honest, I highly recommend it.

Read this one a couple of years ago.
In my opinion, this book is the best book written on the subject.
Very practical guide to distressed debt analysis; very structured, easy to read, great overview of potential legal issues. Helps a reader to develop a right mindset for distressed debt investing.

The only "How To" book on the subject you need.

If you are looking at distressed assets (not just debt) of any kind, this is the only book you need.

All bases are covered, from legal proceedings, financial statement analysis, to market micro-structure.

This is not a suitable book for retail investors, unless the issue happens to be very large and liquid (e.g. Calpine debt in 12/'07). This text is directed primarily at institutional investors, so know this before you buy.

Other subjects are covered such as "loan to own", etc.

A winner.

Some other books on the topic go into significantly more detail in esoteric issues; however this book is a must for a grounded detailed understanding of the topic. I have recommended this book to a number of colleagues in the industry and all were equally appreciative.

Review Date: 2006-01-13
The book is an easy read. It is well organized and flows logically. In addition, it has slightly larger type with plenty of white space for improved readability.

The author writes in a style similar to Peter Drucker, one of my favorite business writers. He expresses valuable key management points in a succinct, easy to understand way.

The author brings his vast consulting experience together to very effectively relate to the issues that Delta faced. His perspective is how Delta's leaders - 7 CEOs and their Board - dealt with those issues and the leadership lessons we can all learn from the decisions of those leaders.

From this leadership perspective, he chronicles the company history, starting with C.E. Woolman, founder of Delta and a great leader during the company's early decades. Nolan then graphically shows how the roots and a culture that caused a growing company to flourish and thrive were damaged or abandoned by later leaders, ultimately leading Delta into bankruptcy.

The points made regarding the agenda of some management consultants are right on target. They deserve serious consideration by any CEO, Board or executive.

The book is a valuable, textbook case study in how a great company can go awry when the leaders lose focus and depart from the values and culture that made it great.

Once nationally recognized as one of the finest major corporations in the United States to work for, this book provides an insight into how a great company was led astray by an unfortunate string of incompetent leaders. This book should be required reading for anyone asked to serve on a company's Board of Directors or as a CEO/President. Lessons learned should be the ability to recognize a pattern of poor decisions and take decisive action before it is too late.

A Gripping Story...And It's Non-Fiction Too!

Review Date: 2006-08-20
With a sharp eye and a keen analytical pen, Harry Nolan holds up a chronological mirror for the reader so we can see the step-by-step erosion of this once-fine company. It's a shame that Delta didn't hire advisors with his insight when the cracks in the company's armor started to appear. Acknowledging current CEO Gerald Grinstein's efforts now to 'row the boat ashore', Nolan does not cut him any slack for his past omissions/commissions as a member of this infamous Board of Directors. WHERE WAS THE BOARD? is a question asked often throughout the book. This book should be required reading for every Director, present and future, of every company, to witness what can occur when the Board relinquishes its responsibilities as Delta's Board did. A gripping story...and it's non-fiction too!

What an awesome book. I am a Delta employee with 18+ years and this is the best book I have read regarding my company. Although the Leadership would have us "little people" believe Delta is in bankruptcy because of us, this book places the Responsibility right where it belongs, with the CEO and Board of Directors. Thank you Mr. Nolan for disclosing the real facts! Those of us on the inside can relate to your book. It should be required reading, but instead, management at Delta has a prepared script to refute the truth disclosed in the book.

Secrets are revealed in the Credit Secrets Bible. I was worried this was going to be another waste of time credit scam, but decided to take the chance and bought the book. I am glad that I did. Yes, they do try to sell you more things in the book, but hey isn't that what good marketing is all about? For me it had some really good tips and strategies for repairing one's credit. I have put the tips to use and to my wonderful surprise I just received a letter from Equifax saying they have deleted one of my items on my credit report. I have a ways to go but at least now I know that I am headed in the right direction! The only reason I did not give the book 5 stars is one of the things they try to sell you on is more credit secrets that are even better than the ones in this book. I think they should have been included in the book.

I cannot say enough about this book. I purchased the Credit Secrets Bible in late June 2007. My scores were in the mid 500 range. By diligently following the advice offered by the authors, two of my scores as of November 2007 were in the late 600 range and I actually cracked the 700 range on the third! By the middle of December, I expect all my scores to be in the mid-700 range. Because of their Advanced Credit Building techniques, my credit card company not only raised my limit but they acceeded to my request that they lower my APR by 9%! I just renewed by car insurance and insisted that they review my credit score since insurance companies do use credit scores to build their internal financing models. Because of my improved scores, I lowered my premium by approximately $200. I cannot believe how much money I have given to banks and creditors all these years because I did not know how to properly review my reports, let alone challenge them. No more. Thanks to the Credit Secrets Bible, my financial house is FINALLY in order. I would love to see a Credit Secrets Bible 2. This book is worth every penny and then some.

When I reach the end of a book and wish there was some more, I know I've read a good story.

This was the case when I read The Outer Whorl by Neal A. Schier.

Schier is a master storyteller and wrote the book from the perspective of a pilot for a major airline; but, instead of a biography of I did this and I did that, he writes as if his only purpose was to bring the reader along with him.

The text revolves around airplanes and pilots, but the real story is about people and their interpretations of the world around them. The author displays a great respect for all individuals, even those who fall below the bar.

The author sees airplane pilots through a prism rare in other books. He sees piloting as a craft to be practiced and honed to perfection. One story, in particular, sticks with me. It involves a modern passenger airliner recently in a serious situation over South America. Instead of trying to explain the jetliners' electrical system and its malfunction, he concentrates instead on the philosophical problem facing the Captain, reminiscent of the great stories of the sea. My favorite lines in the book are in this story:

"Time and fate were playing a cat-and-mouse game on this flight...The cat-and-mouse game did not last long though. The mask of supposed civility that cruel reality often wears was dropped, and the crew was facing the ugly prospect of having an electrical fire on board".

The book is a compelling read. Rather than a beginning, middle, and end, it is written as a series of essays. Each could stand alone, but each ties with a common thread to the others. It is an interesting way to deal with an author's lifetime of experiences and observations.

Both pilots and non-pilots are sometimes reluctant to approach a book with aviation as its theme. The pilot fears it will be too simplistic and forget to address the mundane every-day, every-week, every-month aspects as boredom and fatigue. The non-pilot fears being left behind by endless technical descriptions and weather report hieroglyphics and arcane formulae.

In The Outer Whorl, Neal A. Schier has written a book that deftly works around the reading fears of both the pilot and non-pilot. I highly recommend this book and suspect that at the end you'll wish there was some more.

Mr. Schier presents a series of essays describing his personal journey as a professional pilot. The book will appeal most to those who have taken similar choices and undergone similar rites of passage in the military and airline industry. But the book will also appeal to those not engaged in flying careers. His essays are insightful and show an attempt to understand various aspects of the human condition. Mr. Schier succeeds in describing a life painted on the canvas of a flying career, made even more enjoyable through his noticeable wit and sense of humor, presenting themselves in the direst of moments. Like many stories dealing with aviation it is one of man versus nature, man versus machine, and the strange dynamic of personalities trapped together in an aircraft cockpit---and of course man versus himself. Worth the time and money.

I highly recommend it. It is a very good read. It consists of a series of short essays of our beloved profession (I just recently retired from one of the Major's) that covers multiple topics such as bankruptcy, leadership and the more lighter moments on the line.

Normally I have found books written by our fellow pilots to be, well, less than great. But Captain Schier's book is not only great, it well thought out and is a must read for all.

I'm an avid reader. I guess you could say I have a case of abiblicaphobia (made up word, but it fits) or the fear of being on public transportation (I commuted from Boston to Chicago) or in a hotel room without reading material (magazines don't count). In fact, I guess you could say I have an acute case of it because I ALWAYS carried a spare book (or 2 or 3) with me on all my trips just in case I finished the one I was reading. My tastes run from mind candy fiction to more serious history/biography type of material. I place The Outer Whorl under the 2nd category.

I enjoyed this book immensely. The essay/short story format was perfect. Little snippets of flying experience that seemed to all flow together. I only wish I could write as well as that.

One chapter touches on the hijacking of a Lufthansa airliner some years back. Capt Schier discusses an interview with a woman who thought less of her husband (both were hostages) because of the incident. Mind boggling to say the least. Thank you Captain Schier.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a frequent airline passenger but an outsider from the community of pilots who fly the big jets. The book provided a glimpse into the experiences and thinking of one pilot. It is a fascinating collection of stories infused with humor and poignant moments.

I highly recommend the book to anybody interested in flying or the airlines.

Author Neal Schier has penned a fascinating book that offers a rare glimpse into the life and psyche of a pilot. The author, a current airline pilot with a military background, takes the reader on an expedition to understand what it is that motivates one to fly. We are offered unique access into the world of flying privy only to pilots. For example his description of his flight training in Japan and how it differs from American methods was both highly accurate and entertaining to read. He describes the scene when he has to take an oral exam so well and vividly that I found myself feeling tinges of anxiety, harkening back to my own oral exams. I have read many "Airline Pilot" biographies, my bookshelves are full of them, and they usually follow the same standard script. You know, "I always wanted to fly since........", "I saved money from my paper route to buy flying lessons, despite my parents objections" etc etc. Mr Schier's book takes the reader to another level, a different plane( no pun intended) he offers the reader rare "jewels" that most aviation books fail to provide. Instead of bland technical descriptions of various aircraft, or braggadocio, and examples of how the writer/pilot saved the day due to his superior abilities (which tends to be a common theme) Mr Schier delves into the mind and psyche of what makes a great pilot and what motivates one to become a pilot. Mr Schier is a gifted writer with an exceptional flair for the written word. His description of the nuances of a pilot's life are " spot on". I found myself many times laughing and envying how Mr. Schier is able to beautifully express and convey various moments and ideas with just the right words. The author takes the reader on an expedition to understand why we fly, the traits of a real leader, and what underlying force motivates one to take a chance and give up the comfortable conventions of a "normal" life and strap into a supersonic jet and fly at 500 knots, five feet from another jet! If you ever felt the siren song of the air pulling at you, and long for a life of adventure and travel this is the book for you. Many years ago Mr Scheir came upon "two paths in the woods" and he took "the road less traveled " and after reading this book I understand why "That is what made all the difference". If you appreciate the writings of Richard Bach you will note similarities in style and tone with Mr Schier's writing. As a pilot with a similar background as the author I thoroughly enjoyed this book.. Mr Schier's observations and descriptions are highly accurate and realistic, and I can honestly say that I will take some of the insights and experiences of the writer as lessons to be utilized in my cockpit. I recommend this book as well to the novice pilot or "future pilot" in training as one of the most realistic and accurate portrayals of the piloting profession!

I bought an earlier edition of this book before my law school exam 15 years ago. I ended up with the second highest exam score in the class. I practice consumer bankruptcy law now and I still go back to this book sometimes. It explains complex concepts very simply which is good for both law students and lawyers trying to find a simple way to explain bankruptcy law to clients. The diagrams and flow charts are very useful, too.

I am an experienced lawyer and regularly read books (usually one-volume treatises) outside my practice area. Comprehensive books on bankruptcy are hard to find, and I purchased Blum's for lack of any alternative. The book is well organized, clearly written, and contains a lot of information. Even the attempts at humor are generally successful.

To offer some unsolicited advice to law students, I don't recommend using this or any supplementary texts in your courses. Stick with the casebook and other materials the instructor assigns. It may seem as if this requires more effort to learn the subject than is warranted, but you won't regret it. You'll never have the time once you start working to reread and think about cases that you have while in school. That 3 years may seem like a long time, but if you take it seriously you will benefit significantly throughout your career. It is surprising how often I encounter exprienced lawyers who are ignorant of matters I learned in law school (now long past) and still remember.

This is a great supplement that covers the 2005 changes in the code. Watch out for other supplements that are still owrking off of the pre-2005 amendments.

If you are taking an introductory course in Bankruptcy, get a copy of this book - And use it! If your course also includes Chapter 11 Reorganizations, I would also recommend that you get a copy of Chapter Chapter 11 Business Reorganizations: For Business Leaders, Accountants And Lawyers. They are useful before exams. But I recommend getting them at the start of the semester.

This book is clear, concise, understandable and even funny at times. The authors have done an incredible job of taking a very complicated topic and making it understandable for a lay audience. At the same time, they avoid talking down to the reader.

Personal Bankruptcy for Dummies is, first and foremost, a very useful tool for anyone even thinking about bankruptcy. It answers all the questions without preaching or browbeating. It ought to be read by every potential bankruptcy client before they meet with a lawyer.

This tome is an absolute godsend for those who are considering filing for bankruptcy yet may not know much about the process. This book covers all the bases concerning Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings. From common mistakes and misconceptions to the highly specific legalese of bankruptcy law, this book addressed nearly every one of my concerns about this complex and emotionally challenging process. I opened the front cover a bankruptcy know-nothing and set it down feeling like an attorney.

This is not a DIY guide to financial rebirth (in fact the authors highly discourage this), but more of an "Everything-You-Ever-Wanted-to-Know-About-Bankruptcy-but-Were-Afraid-to-Ask" reference. The authors do not delve into the minutia of the process. They seek to be more like tour guides, leading you through the perilous wilds of US bankruptcy law with their collective wealth of knowledge on the subject. I found more useful information in the first 10 pages of this book than I did in six hours of web-surfing.

The most superlative compliment I can bestow upon this volume is that it helped to allay my fears and crystalize my plans for my financial future.

Jim and John have a wonderful way of making you feel like you're sitting down at your kitchen table with a bankruptcy attorney who only has your best interests at heart. They don't pull any punches, and sometimes what they tell you isn't what you really want to hear, but you know they're giving you solid advice. Your anxiety level will plummet if you are thinking of filing bankruptcy and are looking for someone to hold your hand through the process.
