The book is great.

Fay Cunningham is a middle aged, fourty pound overweight, menopausal, divorcee who is trying to quit a twenty-year, pack a day smoking habit. She has a daughter in college, and is the publisher of the town's very successful newspaper. She recently handed over her newspaper duties, for the time being, to see if she still wants to continue doing it. In the meantime she is delivering the papers herself to get closer to her customers, help her with her depression, and to lose the weight she has gained from not smoking. Faye Cunningham is what a lot of us are, a lady trying to find herself. But she is also much more than that. She is also a very loyal, and trustworthy friend. And so on a rainy, dreary day, when she went to the door of Joe Wise, one of her closest friends, to deliver his newspaper, and a strange woman, very rudely answered the door, saying that Joe isn't there, Fay becomes very curious.

Leaving Joe's house she goes to the "gossip corner", a nearby restaurant in town, and finds the former police chief, Mitch Malone, there having lunch. Not someone she is particularly happy to see at the moment. I have got to say that I was hooked on A DANGEROUS WOMAN when I read the very first paragraph. And Ms. Lee did not let me go. She has created a character, in Fay Cunningham, that most of us can relate to. A funny, not so perfect, but warm woman, who is trying to find herself after a devastating divorce. A woman who is so loyal to her friends that she puts own problems on the back burner, to make sure that they are alright, and not in harm's way. Bumbling along, but not giving up when things don't quite go the way that she wants them to.

A DANGEROUS WOMAN is a wonderful cozy, mystery that you will just want to curl up with, and forget the rest of the world, as Ms Lee pulls you into Fay's world. And you will not be sorry, because you will laugh, you will cry, you will bite your nails. Ms. Lee writes in such a fashion that it is easy to get to know Fay, and all of the other characters that she brings into the story. The plot keeps your interest, and makes you want to keep going. The characters are alive, and breathing. And you can't help but relate to the wonderful heroin, Faye.

If I could order up a friend, with all the qualities I desired, I would want a friend just like Fay Cunningham. And, I know, after reading A DANGEROUS WOMAN you will too.

I just can't say enough about this wonderful book. I just hope that this isn't the last Faye Cunningham mystery. A DANGEROUS WOMAN is much too good to not have a sequel. And believe me when, and if, it appears, I will be the first one in line to get it. And anymore thereafter.

Days on the Water isn't a fishing book, per se. It's about the history, folklore, and traditions of fishing, as much well-written literature as it is a compendium of fishing lore and information. This isn't a "how to fish" book, or a "let me tell you how I bagged the big one" book. Days on the Water appeals to anglers, anglers' relatives, history buffs, nature enthusiasts, and those who appreciate good, straight-from-the-hip prose in the Hemingway style.

Not only is this book an important contribution to the deliberative democracry debate, it is essential reading for anyone concerned with the future of American democracy. Coming at a time when political discourse has been reduced to television soundbites, the inane commentary of media "pundits," cynical, poll-driven stump speeches, and barely coherent, question-dodging press conferences, Leib's call for a fourth, "popular," branch of government couldn't be more timely.

When approaching this book, one might ask why they should read a book so old on such a fluid subject. When you think of the amount of current research being done on the development of Egyptian culture, reading a book 90 years old may seem meaningless. What the book suffers from an obvious lack of modernity, it makes up with it by presenting one of the best studies of Egyptian religion ever written.

Awe still comes to those who stare at the Great Pyramids. How could ancient man, with few tools or equipment build such structures? And, the even bigger question, why? Why would so much be used to build a structure designed for the dead? It is a very good question, and Breasted was one of the first to really offer some clear explanations. Breasted's history is massive in its scope, his written lectures taking you from the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt to the waning days of the New Kingdom. Reading this work gives such a clear and concise answer to so many questions. We learn how Egyptian religion changed, how their view of their pharaohs and their gods developed over centuries. We see the Warrior Kings, the Shepard Kings, the origins of the Judeo Christian ethic, and the mysterious figure of Akhenaten.

The only problem I would have with this book is that in this edition, some of the source material Breasted uses is really mixed in with the actual writing, so as to make it kind of confusing. Still, that is a minor complaint. Breasted is probably the greatest American Orientalist, and his work opened up that field of studies in the United States. If you want to get a grasp on his genius, read this work, it will forever change the way you look at Egypt and ourselves today.

The author, founder of the Oriental Institute in Chicago, opened the doors to all subsequent studies in ancient religion. This is a classic, to be read before anything else on the subject of ancient Egyptian religion. The author describes how the Egyptians developed at an early date a sense of the moral unworthiness of man and a consciousness of deep-seated moral obligation. This is a deep work into the minds of the Ancient Egyptians.

with a great background already towards pennsylvania history. bill kashatus brings to life a compelling tale about the area's coal history & it's fabric culturally. easy to read with lots of pictures & statistics giving great cultural & baseball information.

"Diamonds in the Coalfields" is a documentary of life in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. William Kashatus has done an excellent job of organizing the history of the mining communities, from a perspective of how baseball affected everyone's lives in those happy, glorious years. You can get an estimate of his effort by looking at his detailed reference notes and bibliography at the back of the book. He has devoted a huge amount of time in research and interviews in the writing of this book.
The accuracy of his descriptions is uncanny, for a person who did not "live it", except vicariously, through the eyes of others. My father pitched for the Glen Lyon Condors, in the 1920's. I lived through the era of Zig Najaka, Stan Pawloski, and Bob Duliba, at Newport Twp. High School. This is a personalized view of early baseball history, a meaningful picture for all baseball fans. My complments to William Kashatus for giving us such an accurate picture of those happy times in our lives. He has done a great job of documentation with an entertaining accent to this portrayal of life in the coal towns. I am purchasing additional books for my uncle, brother-in-law, and three sons, who also share an interest in the nostalgia for sports in the Wyoming Valley. (Pennsylvnia)

The Digest of Iustinianus is probably the first masterpiece in the history of Law that untill nowadays is applied in order to interpretate law or even as common law in some places of the globe. The Digest is a recopilation of jurisprudence, mainly from jurists that lived in the so called late classic period of roman law (Ulpianus, Papinianus, Paulus, Modestinus and the classical but provincial Gaius). However comments of other important jurists can be found such as Julianus, Alfenus et. al. showing us, of course with interpolations since it was intended as applicable law after it's composition, all the main context of Roman Law from the post classical period (527). Not withstanding the afforementioned critic, the Digest is regarded nowadays as the most classic book of law, not only romal law, but law as a whole. it is a masterpiece and the result of years of hard work of a commission leaded by Tribonianus. The Digest of Justinian is the number one book to any researcher on law regardless of the subject. Some translations recomended are D'ors et.al (Spanish, Ed. Aranzadi, Pamplona), or the transcription composed by the great Theodor Mommsen (German). An must-have for anyone interested in legal history and/or Roman history. Truly a magnificent work. One thing to keep in mind though is that the whole work is published in two volumes and only the first volume is sold here.

Practical. comprehensive,philosophical guide for any web user. This book is extensively annotated and illustrated - Deft and witty, it is a boon to academics and the rest of us in understanding the revolution to the way we think about framing our world, it's past and present and preserving it in digital form accurately efficiently and cheaply.

A remarkable mix of history and "xml", presented with a readable and often amusing text. The "screenshot" examples were very helpful.

You can see by the pictures and words these men and women are not the same people they were many years ago when they were first put in prison. The pictures of each person put a face to the name and made them human.

Long term life sentences is why our prisons are so full today and more have to be built. We will have the "nursing home" prisons where these inmates will have to spend the last days of their life as more and more inmates receive life sentences and grow old in prisons. There is no good purpose for this.

I wish this book was required reading for every lawyer and judge. I wish the public would all read it also. Ann

I bought this book several years ago and have since given it as a gift and used it in teaching opportunities. I have watched as people thumb through it and write down the ISPN # so that they can find/purchase it. It's has to be one of the best books around to make real the personalities of some of those who society has discarded through the process of incarceration. This book is not about criminal justice theory. It's about global humanity. It's TERRIFIC!

I'm an anthropology student at Hunter College in New York. Professor Creed teaches here, and this semester I took his "Families and Households in Anthropology" Class. He's an amazing professor, and I look forward to reading this book. If his class reflects anything in the book, I am sure it will be great!

Once you get by some of the academic gobbledygook, this book delivers great insight into the challenges of a Bulgarian village making the economic transition. Creed has obviously 'lived the life' there, as opposed to just parachuting in for a couple weeks. I lived there too and can attest to the veracity of his observations. This is about the best book I can think of for anyone who wants to really know about the people and lifestyle of Bulgaria over the last 40 years.
