If you own a business, you have to have this book. It explains everything from employee compensation to the home office deduction. What's great is I find myself referring to it on a regular basis for both simple questions (can I deduct this?) to complex questions (depreciation expense).
I would recommend this book to anyone with a business

This is a very basic book that unearths nothing we don't already know. Wow, a SEP-IRA is deductible? And so is health insurance and advertising? C'mon... give me something I can use!
There is nothing in this book that can't be found for free at a number of sites. In fact, Quicken.com may be more detailed, and its free.
Unless you were born 2 days ago, and started a business yesterday, this book will reveal very little.

This is a good book to help prepare someone with an estate plan before consulting a lawyer. Depending on your situation, it might be easier to use this book and some estate planning software instead of paying a lot of money for an attorney. I think the key here is that this book will help motivate people to TAKE CARE OF YOUR ESTATE! After you read some of the stories that occur when people fail to do this you will be glad you have purchased this book. It certainly is not a substitute for an attorney, but it will help make the layperson ask those critcal questions as to what should be done with their estate after they are deceased. It talks about avoiding estate taxes, setting up partnerships, trusts, financial planning, life insurance, and gives some referrals to professionals in each one of these fields.

This book should be mandatory in tort law classes and for legislators. Even if one doesn't agree with the arguments and points made, one cannot discuss tort law intelligently without being able to address Huber's critique.
The Tort Cop and Corporations

There are many problems with Huber's book - most stemming from his confusion between capitalism and corporatism. The ever-increasing effectiveness of libability and the "tort cop" in holding anti-capitalist corporations accountable for their actions is a problem for corporatism, which is a good thing for capitalism and society. The "tort cop" effectively polices shoddy actors in the market and even puts them out of business when they are repeatedly negligent in hurting others.
Yet stories abound in the corporatist press such as a lady getting a million dollars because a fast food employee spilled coffee on her lap at the drive-thru window. These "stories" are presented by the media as ludicrous and a symptom of a legal system out of control and in need of reform. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Juries of individuals like you and I sat and listened to the evidence of both sides. They heard the corporations trying to excuse what they really did when they injured the other party. After deliberating, they found the corporation guilty who, in turn, sent out a misleading press release that was later printed by the media that the corporation owner also owned. This type of disinformation directed against our nation's effective tort system is mirrored in this book by Huber.
First Huber wants us to believe that we're all a bunch of idiots, especially when we sit on juries and try to decide a case brought by an injured party against the perpetrator. Huber maintains that we have unjustly given away billions of dollars in bizarre settlements; not that corporations have done billions of dollars of damage to individuals.
Huber says that this "began and ended with a wholesale repudiation of the law of contract". I would say that it began and has not ended with the State's creation of an artificial person in law - the corporation. Huber then surveys some history of contract law and examines some legal cases. He then makes the case for moving away from the role of tort as cop in law and allowing instead for consent, that way corporations cannot be held responsible for their actions and those with shoddy products and business practices can stay in business.
In short, more Orwellian double-speak to falsely alarm capitalists to run to the rescue of anti-capitalist corporations who, like their parent The State, seldom can do anything right.

Huber appears to be an attorney by education, if not
in practice. He has researched the subject well, and has
a dry wit in his comparisons that enliven the reading
if the reader has any intellectual inclination. The
book does not require heavy concentration but is not for a
relaxing fireside session. Covering mainly recent decades
where liberal legalists Huber terms "The Founders"
significantly altered the face of American law in the area
of liability, you will understand why he uses the term
"revolution" when you finish this book. The anecdotes
and historical cases are fascinating.
This is absolutely de rigeur reading for anyone expecting
or claiming expertise on the subject of liability on the
American legal scene.

This book was difficult to read, often wandering off on a tangent. I know the subject of taxes can be difficult but this text made topics that I was already familiar with seem confusing again. Each chapter has several examples, many of which were helpful. But many were also not clearly explained and a few made me wonder if the paragraph was truely finished. If you have a choice, pick up some tax software and a quickfinder guide to go with this class.

Wiley's books are useful, but not suitable for a complete review. I found them to contain more information than was necessary. They did, however, contain a multitude of old CPA Examination questions. This was useful, but I feel that these books need to be used in conjunction with a reputable CPA Review Course. Test taking skills are not discussed in depth, as well as the confidence instilled by a review course.

This is an outstanding and much needed book. There is so much confusion between federal, state, local, and international aquaculture laws, which usually contradict one another. This industry is nearly as old as time and is the misunderstood poor cousin of the agriculture industry, often lost and forgotten, and yet is the fastest growing segment of the agriculture industry. There are still outdated colonial ordinances that effect beach front and other seemingly unrelated topics, but which are still in use today. McCoy's book untangles the web of aquaculture regulations and gives a clear and coherent overview of issues facing the industry. It is a relief to finally see a book that covers the important topics we have been struggling with for year, it is the only book of its kind!!!

This book takes a very complex subject and makes it almost understandable. You still need a specialist to guide you through the application, but at least now I have a working knowledge of what's available, as well as a list of questions that came to mind as I read. And it will be a little easier to figure out if he really knows what he's talking about.

This book is a very good introduction to basic subchapter C concepts with which every good tax lawyer should be familiar. The subject matter cannot be fully grasped without some effort but this title will make that effort less burdensome. I highly recommend it to law students and tax lawyers who do not have significant experience with subchapter C of the IRC.

Donaldson has made a mundane and complex topic (tax law) accessible and entertaining. The book is organized in an easy-to-follow format and has chosen interesting cases to illustrate core concepts.
The book also does an excellent job of incorporating problems that illustrate key concepts and test your knowledge. Each chapter comes with "Self Assessment Questions" that illustrate discrete concepts, with accompanying answers so that you can check yourself. Additionally, more complex questions are presented throughout the book. These questions test big-picture knowledge and do not have accompanying answers. My professor used these for class discussions and review. The format of incorporating discrete and complex problems throughout the book helped me build my knowledge one step at a time.
The book publisher helpfully publishes updates on a website, allowing the textbook to stay current with changing tax laws.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for introductory tax classes. Even if this is not the book your professor assigns, it is better than most study guides. This book will help you learn the income tax essentials.
