My girls are 7 1/2 and 4 and they have enjoyed working through this book. The coloring pages are simple enough for my younger one and my older daughter liked the puzzles and word finds. I look forward to taking a trip to the north shore and letting them see all the things that they learned about. It was a very inexpensive way to learn about a different part of the country. I would be interested to see if this author comes out with activity books on different states and regions.

This is an excellent book that has all the same information you find on the DNR website or in campground maps at state parks. The best part is it's all contained in one very handy book instead of countless pages of campground maps. It also has history of state parks, geology, etc that you also find in the DNR handouts. All in one handy book. We use it constantly to decide which state park to visit on our next adventure

As a 76 year old man formerly from Minnesota, I found this book to be an easy read, entertaining, and educational. The historical content brings back memories that were all but forgoten. It is like a trip through memory lane, with the added benefit of much more detail than resides in one person's memory. The book is packed with facinating historical pictures as well. This collection of historical events in Minnesota's history has to be the result of months of dedicated research. The author gives you the feeling that accuracy is at the top of his priority list. This book should be of great interest to anyone from Minnesota or the mid-west who has the slightest interest in the history of Minnesota.

"Minnesota: Chasing The Seasons From The North Shore To The Mississippi" is a compilation of beautiful images by photographer Jim Jamieson showcasing Minnesota's natural phenomena, landscapes, and wildlife. Using digital photography, this compendium of 201 captioned photos and illustrations follows the changing seasons as reflected in a number of Minnesota's parks and wildlife refuges. Very highly recommended, "Minnesota" is especially appropriate for Minnesota library collections, nature photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts. So well organized and presented is "Minnesota" that it would well serve as a template for similar nature photograph studies of other states and regions of the country.

Readers across the country loved the book. Here are some of their comments. Miriam's sense of humor and memories of out houses and Sears catalogs brought back fond memories! Wonderful book filled with nostalgia...a great read...The photographs and sketches added a warm and personal touch to the story. A sixth grade teacher wrote, Miriam's book is great for younger readers, I used it for our study of Minnesota History.

An author who knows his subject. Very accurate information of the planning, development, implementation of a very unique rail system to deliver raw iron ore from the mines to the loading dock where ships waited for cargo to fuel the steel demands of our growing United States.
Frank is very frank about his candid writing. Great photos, drawings, of how the entire system was built over rough terrain and difficult weather elements.
Again a must have for Great lakes shipping enthusist!

Sorry for my precarious English. I recently bought this book and found it an invaluable source of information.
I especially liked the interpretation approach of moderate elevations of clinical scales.
In my opinion, the authors made a great job in integrating each and every concept with a wealth of examples (cases, data, profiles). Very clear and organized.
Although its publication dates back to 1995, it is still a precious book to have, no matter how many mmpi books you have already purchased.

Minnesota's wonderful hockey history comes to life like never before in Ross Bernstein's newest book, "More... Frozen Memories," the updated and expanded sequel to the 1999 regional best-seller, "Frozen Memories."
With nearly 800 images, the book is both entertaining as well as insightful. Featured in it are literally hundreds of this past century's greatest professional, senior, amateur and high school teams, along with countless biographies and stories of their star players. While some of the stories are riveting, intriguing and even heart-breaking, others are downright hilarious.
From Roseau to Rochester, and from Warroad to White Bear Lake, it's all here. Not only is there a complete history of Minnesota's beloved High School Tournament (both boys and girls) there are also feature chapters and vignettes on the histories of the Wild, North Stars, Fighting Saints, Minnesota Moose, Duluth Hornets, Eveleth Reds, Minneapolis Millers, St. Paul Saints and Warroad Lakers, among others.
There are also chapters on nearly all of Minnesota's college and university teams, including the Minnesota Gophers, UM-Duluth Bulldogs, St. Cloud State Huskies, Minnesota State Mavericks, Bemidji State Beavers, as well as all of the MIAC schools. In addition, there are chapters on the evolution of the women's game, in-line skating, junior hockey, junior and community college hockey, the 1960 and 1980 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic teams, and so much more.
From John Mariucci to Moose Goheen, and from Herbie Lewis to the Hanson Brothers, "More... Frozen Memories" truly celebrates one of Minnesota's greatest treasures -- the sport and lifestyle of hockey.

I bought this book because I graduated from Morgan Park HS back in the 60's and lived there from 1959 - 1970. The book is very well researched with some outstanding old photos. The text is easy to follow and laid out very logical. Many interesting facts I never knew while I lived there and brought back a lot of memories.
If you like stories about life in the past century this book would help you understand a lot of things from a common man's point of view.

Once having lived close to the Mason-Dixon Line whose markers (some of them) I've traced and visited, I find surveying and marking boundaries, whether it's surveying a property line prior to erecting a fence to international boundary disputes such as the one waged between Canada and the US (and discussed brilliantly in this study) to be fascinating subjects. It took many years and a number of major conferences and treaties before the line separating Canada and the US was established. While concentrating particularly, though not exclusively, on the boundary line along Minnesota's border, William Lass has written a fascinating history of America's northern boundary.
Lass begins with the agreement made in the Treaty of Paris in 1783, which brought the American Revolution to its conclusion. Additional treaties were signed all the way up to 1846, each one amending previous agreements. The most interesting account might be the chapter on the Lake of the Woods and the formation the Angle Inlet as American property, which came about through a lack of information regarding the head of the Mississippi River at the time. The western boundary of the US prior to the Louisiana Purchase was assumed to be the Mississippi River, which was thought to extend up to Lake of the Woods. Thus the most NW point of the lake was marked as the corner of US territory. But when it was learned that the river began much farther south, the 49th parallel became the agreed upon boundary line and a line was simply drawn south from the NW point to the line. Thus the town of Angle Inlet is only one of two communities in the contiguous United States (Point Roberts, WA is the other) that in order to reach by land one must travel through a foreign country. Another most intriguing chapter is the one regarding the final remonumenting of the line during the early 1900s. Lass's history is scholarly and thorough, but not dull. Numerous maps and photos grace the text. Anyone interested in the history of the US's northern boundary in general, or Minnesota's in particular, will find much to savor in this oversized, double-columned book. Highly recommended.
