Michigan Books

While doing research for our local VFW, my husband found the following books quite helpful in getting information regarding prisoners of war, Michigan's involvement in the war, and the Michigan Sharpshooters (Indian). It's a good book to look at. There are quite a few paragraphs of information also. This book is not for finding lights.
John Penrod has done photos for postcards, calendars, books, and
even placemats. I own several of these items.

With the constant change in media law this is an excellent book for both students and working journalists. The book offers an excellent overview of current law and helps the non-lawyer understand what can be a complicated topic. With more legal decisions and legislation affecting the work of media, this is an excellent book to have in the newsroom, as well for use in the classroom. The authors are some of the best in business and known throughout Michigan and the country in news media circles.

The author is obviously a lover of the movie theatre of days past. Will we see their like again? Like him, I grew up in Michigan when these theatres (like him, I'll use the spelling used in their heyday) were still around. Fortunately, some few still are.

this book was a gift for my parents who traveled to Michigan and enjoyed their trip imensely, they got to reminise about all the amazing places that they visited. They were very excited about recieving the book.

Michigan Press Women, Today and Yesterday, has won the first annual "Martha Rayne Award" for research about media history in the Michigan Jounalism Hall of Fame contest. Author, Willah Weddon, will be presented with a plaque and $500 at the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame Banquet to be held April 17th, in the Kellogg Center on the Michigan State University campus. In addition, a permanent plaque will be located in the Hall of Fame display in the northeast lobby of the MSU Communication Arts and Sciences Building. The selection committee said "Her work should be an inspiration to young researchers loking for a media history topic."

This isn't just a print-out from a database but a comprehensive compendium of all proposed and operated common carrier and private rail lines in the state including street railways and lumbering roads and more.

Contents include,

2)List of Companies (much more than just a list!),
3)Corporate Family Trees,
4)Chronology of Corporate Actions,
5)Corporate Actions by Year, and
6)County Listing of Companies.

I found only one road not listed - the Beaver Island Lumber Company.

This little volume is a real page-turner. It's short and concise, but oh so interesting. I loved it. If you are into 19th century history, especially crime and law and order in the midwest, then this book is a must.

This is a wonderful book that chronicles the role of Michigan soldiers(both men and women) in the Civil War. There are a lot of good photographs, many published only in this book, of the various Michigan soldiers and units. There is also a run-down of the major battles, and how Michigan units participated in these battles. And finally, it contains a good bibliography of Michigan Civil War books, as well as a list of Michigan monuments to the Civil War in and out of state. There is also a section on Michigan's participation durin the Civil War Centennial. All-in-all, a MUST-HAVE for Michigan Civil War historians!

Very Peaceful and Relaxing book to sit and meditate on while drinking a cup of coffee. I Love It! Highly Recommend
