My girlfriend discovered this book on a stroll through the university library. After reading it, we decided that we had to have it on our own bookshelf. This book is not so much about Guinea Pigs, but rather about the cultures surrounding them. If you want to find out how the everyday Andean lives and views this world, this book will show you through pictures and well crafted words.

Gayle Martin's book "Gunfight At The O.K. Corral: Luke and Jenny Visit Tombstone" is a wonderfully written and informative account of the feud between Wyatt Earp, his brothers, Doc Holiday, and the Clantons.
A fictional tale about real life events it is the story of Luke and Jenny, a brother and sister who, while on vacation, are transported back to 1880's Tombstone and witness the events leading up to the famous gunfight.
While written for young readers adults will also enjoy reading this action filled slice of old west American history. Packed full of little known facts this is a book that will be read over and over by the entire family.
As an author and storyteller Gayle Martin is on a level equal to Carolyn Keene, R.L. Stine, and J.K. Rowling.

This book is a thorough cataloguing of how plants were and still are used in medicine by Native American and Mexican culture. The author obtained her information by interviews with patients and pouring through endless articles on the subject. It is a study of ethnobotany in the American and Mexican West that is both interesting and useful, especially to the professional who is treating patients who might also be taking these medicines.

Mildred Norman has written a very informative and entertaining book about the mid-20th century. As baby boomer whose parents lived through this amazing period I found the book full of new insights. Norman's optimistic outlook, humbleness, and sense of humor give the book a personality not usually found in such memoirs. I highly recommend this book for those who want to get a sense of the Great Depression, WWII and the post war period. Definitely not a history oriented book -- just a great read.

I have been trying to find a copy of this book for about 3 years. My husband and I are avid hikers and the Santa Ritas are in our 'backyard'. This book provides essential information about many trailheads that cannot be found in any other hiking guide. With the current controversy over the probable open-pit copper mine at Rosemont and the likelihood of a big housing development at the mouth of Madera Canyon I think that this would be the perfect time for a new printing of this book.

Originally written centuries ago by artist, historian, and Benedictine monk Matthew Paris (c. 1200-1259) and dedicated to Queen Eleanor, The History of Saint Edward the King is a portrayal of the reign of King Edward the Confessor that reveals at least as much (if not more) about the era, values, and dynastic concerns of King Henry III's reign as it does of its titular time period. Portraying King Edward as a wise, benevolent, married virgin king, who presided over harmonious rulership and dispensed miracles, The History of Saint Edward the King is most assuredly not unbiased - its representations of Anglo-Danish relations, vilification of Harold Godwinson's brief reign before the battle of Hastings (and the claiming of the English throne by Norman duke William),and its almost stage-worthy depictions of love affairs, epic events, history and hagiography distinguish this chronicle among records of its time. Skillfully translated from the original French, (no easy task considering the rhymed rubrics peppering the original), The History of Saint Edward the King is enhances with exhaustively extensive notes. An appendix of passages from Paris' original writings, recommended further reading, and an index of proper names round out this seminal references and resource. Highly recommended for college library collections and course teaching lists.

This is very useful to anthropological scholars, archaeologists, and curious minds for the study of Amerindian engraved tablets and comparison with other pictographs or engraved stones. This is a comprehensive study of the symbols that Native Americans beautifully carved into stone palletes. This book compares in scope and scholarship with the book entitled "Pre-Columbian Shell Engravings from the Craig Mound" by Phillip Phillips and James Brown. The ACCESS database is also very useful to sort out the symbols.
The only piece of information that is not included, and we may never know is the meaning of these symbols to Amerindians.
