I'm a crim pro junkie, so this book is a cherished belonging. A good investment for anyone in a crim pro class, but a necessity for anyone who has to do any sort of self-guided crim pro research. And it's a steal at around $50.

A true inspiration and invaluable guide...

I was first introduced to the flower essences of this book when I attended a meeting where the author was presenting her work. Not only did I walk away with a bag full of essences to start my own personal practice, but more importantly, with a sense of peace and gentle harmony with desert nature that Cynthia Athina Kemp Scherer not only teaches, but lives.

Her book starts off with a brief, but potent, history of her own background and how she began making desert essences in the first place. The bulk of the book focuses on all the individual essences, including composite formulas as well as ones she is currently researching (seems essence producers research them for YEARS, before pulling them out of that category!) At the beginning of each essence, she lists the "Harmonizing Qualities" and "Patterns of Imbalance" she's found to be associated with that particular flower. At the end of each entry, she lists several statements under the heading, "Indicated When:" For example, under "Desert Holly", it is indicated when: "I am afraid I will appear to be unloving. I feel obligated to love a certain person. I want to love more fully and freely. I feel blockages in my heart and am trying to work at removing them." She also lists if it is a component of a composite formula as well.

One section I found particularly helpful was the Cross Reference. Here she lists various "states of harmony and disharmony" then corresponds each to the flower essence(s) that would be most helpful for either enhancing or dissipating that quality.

Needless to say, my copy is already looking quite dog-eared and worn (after only 2 weeks!) But I wouldn't have it any other way. If you feel drawn to flower essences and especially to the incredible survival power and wonderfully adaptive nature of the not-so-dead desert arena, this book is a MUST-HAVE. Highly recommended.

compelling reading and imagery of too often ignored place

I found myself devouring each word and picture in this book while flying home from Madrid to my home, Tucson, Arizona, recently. It is beautifully written and eye-openingly informative for any reader. The descriptions are also accurate, about which I can attest as an active inhabitant of this fronterra, living in nearby Tucson and often working in Nogales areas. The pictures (a big difference from photographs) draw you into the experience of the subject in tender ways, while also being technically excellent quality. This is perhaps the best writing and photography to date by the increasingly infamous Hickey-Taylor team. bravo!!

Superbly researched and written account of early AZ

Written one of the best researchers of Western history, this chronicle of one of the little-known robberies in Arizona history gets more engrossing chapter by chapter. Major Wham escorted an army payroll horseback train that was robbed by locals in southeast Arizona. The locals who were charged were Mormons in an area thick with the LDS, and the region in general was resentful toward the federal government. Local politics and the religious overtones make this a great read.

(Planeta.com Journal) -- The author's experiences among the Tohono O'odham nation that crosses the Mexico-United States border serves as a critical backdrop to her in-depth examinations of literature, such as Leslie Marmon Silko's Almanac of the Dead and Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire. This is a powerful book that focuses attention on the linkages between literature and the envrionment. It's the first to review American Indian literature from the standpoint of environmental justice. By exposing the blind spots in our cultural vision, it does create opportunities for building common ground, or as the author terms, "the middle place" where environmentalists, scholars, writers and teachers can come together to work for social and environmental change.

I read this book for the first time 20 years ago and it still has a lasting effect on how I think about relationships. It's a simple book that carries significant lessons on how girls are taught to deal with males in their lives. I consider it must reading for young mothers of girls, all men, and everyone who wonders why it is so hard to develop relationships that are based on good communications. No jabs, just clear observations and logical advice. You'll find yourself wondering why you never saw the obvious. You owe it to your sons and daughters to read and pass on this book.

This is part of the story of Father Albert Braun.O.F.M.He was an army chaplain in both World Wars, a great teacher, and friend to the Apaches of New Mexico. He also was a Bataan Death March survivor.
His is the true spirit of a missionary, comforter in times of dire stress, and a great builder.

Once you start reading Amor Eterno you may be tempted to devour it all at once. My advice is take your time, savor each and every word. Patricia Preciado Martin's eleven short stories read like poetry and conjure up vivid and touching images of loves lost, forgotten, unrequited, and eternal. She has an insider's sensitivity to Mexican culture and an expert command of English that allows her to turn her "cuentos" into universal experiences. Now I want to read all of her books.
