As the Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination spread following the frontier from its Kentucky and Tennessee roots, it found fertile ground in Arkansas. This volume is a rich tribute to the heritage and collective witness of this denomination from early in the history of the American nation up to 1984. The book is well written and loaded with people, places and dates. An excellent item for the Arkansas geneologist as well as the state and local historian. A nicely produced hardcover volume in dust jacket.

This book is easy to read, and has a great pace. I love how the author keeps the characters on the move. Three male friends about to graduate High School and possibly never see each other again and having to deal with the consequences of their pranks. This book reminds me of my glory days.

I'm a native of Arkansas and an avid hiker. This is the best trail guide I have seen for the state of Arkansas. Tim Ernst is a resident of Arkansas, a fantastic photographer and a down to earth writer. Most other guides just summarize other sources, but this one is written by someone who has hiked (and measured) each of the trails in his book. The author's knowledge of the state and his attention to detail really show in this excellent guidebook.

excellent background history of Arkansas. It is directed and elementary children, but is entertaing and informative with alot of good pictures. I would have liked a little more specifics on the american native people. Particularly their names, as I have toured Arkansas and ther are alot of memorials to specific people such a Sarricin or Saracen in Pine bluff. Also, arkasas was pivito durin the wartime for WW2.

Prof. Barger's book is a great beginner guide to law students and a great refresher to practicing attorneys. As a beginner guide, the book thoroughly lays out a method of research and shines a spotlight down the various paths a researcher can take.
For the practicing attorney (Arkansas or not), Prof. Barger's text helps you avoid falling into bad habits in your research. Using the method she sets out will help you avoid forgetting about that Local Rule or stopping your research too soon. The book covers all the basic areas where the law (and commentaries on it) can be found. She refreshes your memory on search terms (just what does * mean anyway). A good book to have on your desk. Highly recommended.

Michael B. Dougan, a professor at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro has written an incisive, scholarly, and comprehensive history of Arkanas, the only one now in print. Professor Dougan researched the book for over 20 years, continuing his research until he could "hear them talking." The book is insightful, amusing and highly entertaining. It contains an exhaustive index.

Unlike the famous areas of the West, Arkansas has very few great vistas from which to photograph. The views here are smaller, more subtle. Tim Ernst has captured many great images of Arkansas, from the well-known parks and views to the wilderness areas that few have seen. This is a must book for anyone who loves photograpy.

The Arkansas Atlas and Gazetteer is the Bible for outdoor activity in Arkansas, especially if you tend to leave the beaten trail behind. This is an excellent collection of maps that provide detailed data on topology and land formations. The large format pages provide better detail than most forestry maps that I have used in the past. And the book format is much easier to manage than larger flat, accordian style maps, especially when you are en-route (it includeds all of Arkansas and is much easier to fold too). This publication is a must for anyone interested in hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, hunting, or exploring Arkansas beyond the reach of highways.
So why only a 4.8? Some small, barely maintained and unmaintained forestry roads are NOT on these maps. If you are not throughly famliar with the area, you better have one just in case. Better safe than sorry! Hiking trails are also NOT on the maps. Thus, -0.2
