Carobeth, like many older people, was raised to be independant and self sufficient. The gradual loss of these abilities played tricks on her mind and caused her deep depression and finally sporadic loss of contact with reality. Read about the miracle that eventually saved her sanity.

What a profoundly cosmic text! I particularly liked the bits about the substantiation of the self, and the discourse of resistance was pretty good, too.
If you're looking for a fabulous academic text, or even just some fun nighttime reading, here's your book

A profound insight into transformations to promote adaptation to an increasingly globalized world

Lives Of Dust And Water coldly spells out the negative side to the forces of globalization. In northwest Mexico, state and regional economic development policies have supported the commercial export of natural resources, causing growth in agriculture and shrimp aquaculture, yet the resulting environmental pressures have worsened the degradation of marine and coastal ecosystems. Formerly self-reliant rural populations are forced into wage and subsistence labor in order to survive; economic impoverishment flows from forces beyond individual control and brings widespread suffering. Author and associate professor of anthropology Maria Luz Cruz-Torres traces the histories of two villages affected by the severity of change, and traces how men and women create innovative social and cultural forms in order to soften the brunt impact and not only survive, but also maintain individual dignity. Combining anthropology, ethnography, history, quantitative analysis, and compassionate awareness, Lives Of Dust And Water is a profound insight into transformations to promote adaptation to an increasingly globalized world.

For pioneer history of the Canyon, THIS IS THE BOOK!

The photos alone are worth the price of this oversized paperback. Mr. Anderson has assembled a detailed and engaging history of the "pioneer" period (1850-1930) at the South and North rims of the Grand Canyon (and the cliffs, slopes and water in between). The familiar names of trails and canyons are fleshed into the first hardy folks who endeavored to eek a livelihood out of northern Arizona's unforgiving desert canyon. We meet explorers, entrepreneurs and industrialists. Prospectors stake their claims, both legitimate and fraudulent. Mormons seek refuge from the laws of their own home state. Individuals fight their losing tugs-of-war against the Railroad/Concession/Park Service aliance. While treatment of prehistoric and early Spanish events is adequate to set the stage for discussing the later periods, it is not intended to be comprehensive [see On the Edge of Splendor]. This comfortably readable volume has finally clarified for me the preferential treatment of Fred Harvey Enterprises, the unmistakable ambivalence of the National Park Service toward its patrons (visitors), and the puzzling destruction of historic sites and abandonment of remote access roads by the NPS. This is great reading for any Canyon junkie.

This book is so cute! My son loves to look at the silly drawings and laugh. But the best part is, he's also learning about the animals when he reads this. I know there are a lot of kid's books out there - but this one is a real gem.

The concept of luck and lotteries is explored in Loteria! with special insights on its popularity and effects in Mexican culture. Writer Ilan Stavans discusses La Loteria experiences from his Mexico City childhood, using riddles and cards to explain the ritual of chance in both Spanish and English text, while artist Teresa Villegas provides the colorful embellishments. An intriguing presentation indeed.

Being new to the Phoenix area and new to mountain biking I found this map extremely helpfull. It's more descriptive and accurate than the many hiking books that I own. As a beginner on the bike, I found the rated trails and routes very accurate which is the exception to the rule of most books. This map should prove useful to any trail user. I know I'll use it for hiking as well. I can see that without it I would have missed out on some the better trails in my area. If you love to bike or hike as much as I do, do yourself or a friend a favor and get this book!!!!

This little gem would be a perfect gift for a Mother, or for any woman seeking to understand the dimensions of mother/daugher relationships. I enjoyed this book for the simple emotions, intimate historical look at Nazi Germany and methods in which the author uses photographs to spark her poetry.

This is a must have book for all ASU sports fans. The depth of information and attention to detail are exceptional. Bob Eger has a great style and clearly did a ton of research for the book. There are so many little known, but very interesting, facts in this book that you will want to read through it again and again! This is a great book to leave out on the coffee table for everyone to flip through!
