I loved this book! I am a calligrapher and amateur bookmaker, and found this to be a valuable addition to my library. The pictures and text instructions are clear, and the projects were interesting and fun. Projects included cards, gift boxes, and mobiles, as well as some more advanced craft techniques. The author focuses on easy-to-obtain equipment and materials, making this a good choice for beginners like me. I also found it a good volume for sparking my brain when my creativity flagged.

I had a summer design class and since the class was so condensed, we designed and constructed projects on a daily basis. For my final project, I had to construct a book. I only had 2 days to do it and since I knew I wanted to make my own papers, I needed some direction. I used this wonderful book and not only did it have very clear directions with concise illustrations, the supplies needed were on a very practical level. That means I didn't have to purchase extra supplies I probably would never use again. My book turned out so beautiful, I got an A+! I now make papers as a hobby and I owe it all to this great book.

One of the most comprehensive and descriptive treatises on a complex hunter and gatherer society, which until recently was still pursuing a traditional lifestyle, largely unaffected by European influences. Although scholarly in intent, this work is eminently readable as it takes one deeply into the world of an ancient culture, and most particularly into the fascinating religious life of the Mardu Aborigines of Australia's Western Desert, one of the world's very last frontiers. A truly exquisite ethnography, a must read for those interested in human ingenuity in surviving and thriving in one of the world's most difficult environments. I highly recommend this extraordinary account, for its empathy and deep appreciation of the human condition.

if you are unaware of how Australia (or America, for that matter) treats its potential immigrants and refugees, read a piece of fiction that exposes the truth. enjoy a beautifully written, lyric story while you're at it.

i stayed up all night reading this book and cried when i finished - cried for the sad ending, cried for all the experiences that mirror the main character's, cried for the inhumanity of the government of a westernized country that was founded both on the destruction of an indigenous people and the shipping off of unwanteds and criminals (hmm, sounds distinctly like another country i know, the one i live in).

What a beautiful book. I was utterly enraptured by it's poignant simplicity and clarity.
It paints a vivid portrait of a child living in rural Western Australia during WWII. Randolph Stow conjures beautiful images of the Australian landscape and family life. The issues of childhood are dealt with sensitively but they are not trite or overdone.

The style is different but in some ways it put me in mind of the writing of Hemmingway. The writing is so clear and beautiful with no overly flowery language or sentimental passages. A stunning book. I was absolutely enthralled by it.

This is the story of a young boy, Rob, growing up in Western Australia during and after World War II, and his cousin Rick, who returns from fighting the Japanese to discover his experiences have placed a wedge between himself and his family.

I first read this book in high school, as required reading. Unlike most other books we studied, this one made a powerful impression. Years later I still recalled the feelings it evoked, of loss and inability to reach those you loved. Recently I hunted it down and bought my own copy. It was just as I'd remembered it. Stow captured masterfully the atmosphere of growing up in a particular place and time (the book is semi-autobiographical), and especially the interconnections of family that define the boy's world. Set against that is the unbreachable gulf that Rick's wartime experience sets between him and the rest of his family. The book explores the tension between a society in which people were defined as an intersection of overlapping relationships, and a new sense of the individual alone; a tension seen through the eyes of a child trying to be loyal to both.

There's a timelessness to much of the book, just as a child's understanding is timeless. A moving and very human account of growing up.

Of all the economics books I've seen as a college student, this is the best one I've read.

i bought this book for an economics class and it is one of the best textbooks i have ever used. it is easy to read and understand, plus it doesn't get nearly as boring as a lot of other textbooks. it is written for the common person and uses lots of examples to illustrate ideas - this is a great book!

When my 4 years old son was very curious about the story when he saw the title. He wondered why the moose was called "mouse". The story is about the friendship between a moose and a girl. It is very charming. After reading that, you will also know how to make cauliflower horns.

The pictures in this book are really cute and the story is very happy, it makes me smile. The girl and the moose are best friends and they have a secret but I'm not telling what the secret is, you have to read it yourself.

The best book I have seen that includes discipline that works and is easy to impliment!! A great book for Dads, and made me think very carefully about Childcare. I feel I have been reminded on my obligations as a mother, and I really appreciate Steve Biddulph's adivce.

We have the 1996 Australian edition of this book and have just reread it. It is a wonderful book that is very easy to read and relate to. Steve Biddulph shows us how important it is to be a parent and what a great job it can be. He also helps us realise how crucial the fathers input is to family life and happiness and how Mums and Dads need to be in a partnership for discipline (our children certainly pick up on whether Mum and Dad are united or not). We have purchased "Raising Boys" and "Manhood" and have grown immensely as parents from these books. This book is great for "stay-at-home" Mums who are continually bombarded by friends and the media into thinking that they should be back at work. Who wants to work when you can enjoy every wonderful day of happy parenting. I will keep rereading this book each year to refresh my parenting batteries.

It's hard to believe that a young couple would consider such a move with five little children. Connie writes in such a way that you feel you're on the trip-what an adventure! Can only say that I'm happy to know that this is only the first book in a series of four and am anxiously awaiting the second one which I understand is late 2003 or early 2004.

I found the book to be fascinating and riveting. This book compels you to read the next page just to see what happens next. Love it! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting read! :-)

I read this when I was a young man living in the U.K. Some friends had me read it to their child.

"Mr. Impossible can do anything... he can... That's Impossible! You try it!" I must have said those words a million times since I read it (whenever some engineer would want me to defy the laws of physics because that was what the project should make happen).

For some reason I thought of it this week and was telling my daughters about it. I am happily suprised that I am able to get it now in the USA.

Back in college I got a job as a summer janitor at the local elementary school. One of the things I had to do was clean up in the library. I took this time as an opportunity to catch up on some reading... in the form of the Mr. Men series. Mr. Impossible is the story of a man who can do it all. Assuming you define all as things that you can't do. He will delight and entertain with his antics!

A well told, well illustrated, children's book that explores the concepts of mass and water depth.

Mr Archimedes is puzzled at why his bath overflows when he has a soak with his animal friends. After eliminating each animal as the cause of his wet floor, "Eureka" Mr Archimedes discovers the answer.

A fantastic book. Highly recommended.

By the author of 'Who Sank The Boat?' This is a fun way of learning about Archimedes Principle. He hops in and out of a bath with, variously a kangaroo, goat and wombat, examining the water level each time, and trying to understand why when ALL the friends are in the bath it always overflows.

Well illustrated. And, yes, he shouts "EUREKA!"
