I got this for my father for Christmas and he is VERY hard to please. He raved about the photos in this book. They are thinking about retiring in Idaho and he says this book makes him want to visit so many more places in that beautiful State.

I live in Idaho and got this for my mother-in-law in California. She loves it and says the photos of just beautiful.

The Idanha: Guests And Ghosts Of An Historic Idaho Inn by Dick d'Easum is the minutely detailed story of a picturesque and landmark Idaho hotel with it's grand and colorful history. This was a place where Governors lived, an assassin plied his trade, Celebrities like Ethel Barrymore, Sally Rand, and Clarence Darrow stayed. Black-and-white photographs enhance a wealth of enjoyable and memorable anecdotes. The Idanha is written in a warm, conversational tone providing the reader with a thoroughly enjoyable and informative glimpse into highlights of an Idaho past.

This is a beautifully photographed work showing the beauty of one of the most spectacular rivers in the world. The essays enhance the photos, showing a love and appreciation for the river and its surroundings. This is more than a travel log or just a bunch of pretty pictures. The book tries to convey the experience of a wilderness river, and succeeds.

Crabtree laid the foundation for all modern flintknapping, his words are almost sacred. I have been very pleased with this book as it has been a great help to me in my flintknapping!

Thomas Lacy has done an excellent job of building a sense of place for the Priest Lake area in this book. He has done this by keeping alive the human histories of the common, unsung inhabitants of a wild and beautiful region; people whose lives and everyday living were shaped by the rugged environment. In these times of a mobile, busy society it is good to take a book like Kaniksu and look back to the days and places where human history and the natural environment moved down parallel trails.

Carol Lynn MacGregor's Lewis And Clark's Bittersweet Crossing is a picture book rendition of the trailblazing true story of Lewis and Clark, and their expedition that revealed new lands and their people to the world. I have to confess I gave it 5 stars because it's about MY grandparents homesteading in MY home state of Idaho and My father wrote it. It IS the best book available on that subject.
The book is a warm account of Humphrey Humphreys and his bride who settled in Round Valley in the 1880s. Entries from his journals lend authentic details on the pioneer life: "Hitched up team and tried to break open the road to doctor's." "Baby died 5:20 p.m. Very sad day." "Laid him away under pine tree. Neighbors came. Sang Nearer My God to Thee."
"Took 1000 shakes to Round Valley, got $4. Took about a day to make them." If you like the Little House books, you might try this.

if you're interested in history and anything associated with lookout fire towers as well recipes created from the folk in the towers well you'll be delighted. this is an excellent book. i purchased for a friend and now after thumbing through i must purchase for myself.

This item arrived in very good time exactly as described. The amount of research it represents is staggering. Perfect for my collection.
