Frank Samson is the vet with the enquiring mind, a wry sense of humour and and a mystery on his hands every time he takes on a job as locum. McCormac has a fine writing style that keep one absorbed, amused and in suspense. Very authentic descriptions of the Irish settings, a great ear for nuance in language and memorable characters.

I brought a copy of this book on recommendation of a friend. I was expecting the usual medical conspiracy story a la Robin Cook. Instead I was greatly surprised by a rich story filled with interesting and complex characters. The main storyline was about greedy HMO executives manipulating how doctors practice in order to increase the profit margins. However, throughout the book a real and passionate relationship develops between the protagonist and his love interest. The story has a number of side stories that keeps the pace going and the reader interested. A definite must on your book list. I'm waiting for the sequel.

I have to acknowledge that I didn't read all the scenarios. I am a happily retired physician. Why bring back the nightmares ? But I would love to learn the opinions of the attorneys-physicians authors of this publication, in relation to a scheme nobody thinks about and....it probably happens in American Operating Rooms
.
My book is called "terrO.R." Fiction ?

Doctor, Laugh at Thyself
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-25
Funny, but SO TRUE! You would have to be dead not to laugh at these quips. Any doctor in practice for a few years will relate to most if not all of them. If you are getting burned out or overly stressed, pull this book out and flip through it and you will be laughing in no time. It really helps to know that all doctors have the same frustrations. Includes many corollaries and axioms to each law to further break down the often comical, but predictable behavior, of patients. Great source for jokes to incorporate into medical presentations also. WARNING: Don let your patients see this one or they will know how doctors really think!
