The author not only argues for feminism, but she does so in a unique manner, and innovative approach by arguing for feminism across borders. She compares and defines literary and national borders. This book is extremely thorough on all aspects of Chicana feminist writing available, by engaging historical theories as well as contemporary notions. To really grasp the experience, the author has certainly covered her basis in terms of depth, substance, truth and validity.

This book is very interesting! It shows how the Americans supported Flugencio Batista and his government! It also shows how Castro was not trusted by the American Businesses because they didn't feel he wouldn't be good to their profit scheming ways! This is a good book for anyone who is wanting to learn more about Fidel Castro and learn the truth about Flugencio Batista

Very well-written with a lot of color pictures. This is a must-have book for those who love Argentina poetry. I strongly believe that this essay affords an excellent opportunity to open a new door to read about the traditions of the studies on exile in the context of Latin American Studies.

Tale of a woman fighting for family, nation, and redemption.

Review Date: 1998-10-10
In the interest of full disclosure, the author is my mother. But my five stars aside, I feel that her latest book deserves a review, so that amazon.com customers might get an idea of what "Festival" is about.

My mother writes about her home, Belize (formerly British Honduras), a land of many cultures and ethnicities, and the only English-speaking nation on the mainland of Central America.

"Festival" is her latest novel. It tells the story of a woman tried and convicted for the murder of her husband. It's written in first-person , with a touch of magical-realism, and flashback sequences that make the book hard to put down.

Luz Marina is trying to put her life back together after her release from jail. This involves clashing with her dead husband's family over custody of her children, and a land deal the family is attempting to make that would be disastrous for the nation.

Zee Edgell writes the story of Belize, the story of women, the story of people.

FIDEL CASTRO recounts the life of a charismatic leader and dictator who has led Cuba since 1959. While much has been written about his regime, FIDEL CASTRO goes beyond politics to survey his life as well, following his rise, struggles, and international politics alike. His history is one of Cuba as a whole, and should not be missed by any studying Cuban history and culture.

Julie Marie Bunck has done a splendid job in revealing to the reader the sometimes harsh policies that Fidel Castro has taken to enhance the development of a socialist/communist conscience in revolutionary Cuba. With meticulous research, she reveals the failures and successors of the Maximum Leader in attempting to construct socialism in all human forms.

Finally. And Forever.

At last. A work we have long been waiting for from Ocean Press has finally arrived. And it is a text which will be read for centuries to come by the English-reading world.

Fidel Castro was the greatest and most human leader of the 20th Century. In this book, in presentation after presentation, Fidel embodies with burning passion the values of communion, courage, joy, humor, compassion, sorrow, remembrance, true justice and -- perhaps most important of all -- HONESTY. One comes away from the "Reader" thinking that perhaps Fidel Castro, for all the Cold War nonsense regarding East vs. West, North vs. South etc, was the greatest Christian leader of all time. Christian in fact, in deed, in thought -- rather than the vampires and their minions who have so degraded that term.

In the Big Dark of the Bush Reich, it is very easy to feel a daily despair. This book cures that. With humor, outrage, incredible brilliance, and total honesty. One example:

"The fascists stop at nothing. They try to find the weak spot. They invent the most ridiculous lies. They try to create terror and unrest among the people by telling the most outrageous lies. Their appeal is always to the gutter instincts: hatred, fear, racism, economic insecurity, selfishness, ignorance. They feed off of keeping people stupid. They resort to every method they can think of. And what do fascists do when their own institutions no longer guarantee their domination? How do they react when the mechanisms they've depended on historically to maintain their domination fail them? They simply go ahead and destroy those institutions, without a moment's look back. The fascists stop at nothing."

Commandante Castro may not make it to the 50th Anniversary of the Revolution. But he will live forever.

This is one of the best books i have read, and re-read. It provides the reader with an insight to the political and social thought of Fidel Castro as the title suggests as well as his role in modern world politics. This intriguing book is a most for all pro Castro supporters, anti-Castro critics and anybody interested in Fidel, the Cuban Revolution and political science

"Fire from the Andes" is a collection of short stories written by women from Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. Latin American literature has few prominent female authors and these three Andean countries have even fewer women writers. Having spent several months in all three of these countries, I can attest to the passion for life shared by this part of the world. This passion is reflected in these women's short stories, albeit sometimes painful and disappointing. Although these are fiction, the lives the women describe are common in these beautiful, magical, amazing countries.
