Earlier this year I picked up a copy of a book entitled "The Lost Scout" by John R. Riggs on a remainder table in a book store. I had never heard of Mr. Riggs until then, and I found out that 13 of these novels were written between 1984 and 1998. I think the prime reason I hadn't heard of him is the fact that all his novels were published by minor publishing companies. Since "The Lost Scout" is the last of the Ryland novels, I decided to start at the beginning of the series with "The Last Laugh". Garth Ryland is a fortyish newspaper editor for the Oakalla (Wisconsin) Reporter. Si Buckles, Oakalla's practical joker, is dead. Garth goes to the funeral, but later finds a note at his house that says "Si Buckles lives." Phil Chesterson, a friend of Si's kills himself for reasons no one knows. Then Dr. Fran Baldwin commits suicide. Several people, including the lovely Diana, Fran's wife and Garth's dear friend, see Si Buckles walking around. Is Si really dead? Could it be that he was buried alive as a joke? Has a murder occurred? This is not a typical mystery novel. In fact it is not only a "who-done-it?" but a "what has been done to whom?" as well. I really enjoyed reading this novel. It is set in small town America, and is quite a bit of fun. I look forward to reading the rest of these novels!

A great wealth of knowledge is packed into this volume. It includes extensive info about Spain as well, including the Reconquista and Age of Exploration. This is the only place I have been able to find detailed maps of both Bolivar and San Martin's campaigns in English. I would have liked to see a bit more about British & American imperialism in the 19th century, but overall it is a great book. I would puchase a newer, up-to-date version in a heartbeat.

Has to be 5 stars!

Any book with three photos of my grandpa Gonzalez and one of my mom has got to receive 5 stars!

Latinos in Waukesha is a fantastic chronicle of the Hispanic influence in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the city where yours truly grew up and inherited 25% Mexican blood from my mother, she was half, I'm a quarter.

The book consists primarily of old-school pics that shed a lot of information on Waukesha and the historical role Latinos played in it, enlightening me on some things I never knew about Waukesha and its large industrious Mexican population. If you're in any way connected to the area you might want to check out this excellent work for a fabulous and enthralling crash course in local history.

The city of Waukesha is a 15 minute drive west of Milwaukee. It's a city of about 75,000 which for all intents and purposes has held its own relative identity and hasn't become a bland suburb. The rest of surrounding Waukesha County is a different matter.

We're performing this play at my high school for our 1 act and I have to say It's quite amazing. Even though we have to cut the play down to a short 40 minutes for competition. I always get emotional seeing the journey up to the devastating end. If your in to intense dramas then this is perfect for you.

This is a wonderful compliation of short stories by a master story-teller. Chapralis captures the imagination of anglers world wide with the antics of a mouse, a hippo and truly speaks from the heart. I'm sorry he couldn't have autograhed my book.

This book is typical of John Riggs. It seems like you know who did it but the twists and turns make it uncertain as who is really the guilty party. And there's always a surprise at the end. His novels aren't long but easily merit a "hard to put it down" status. Give him a try but be prepared to want every book in this series of mysteries. Thank you.

Bellamy's employment of language is intoxicating: her sentences swirling around like smoke in a fat-bellied glass pipe, the body of her work crackling with the brilliance of a heretofore unknown substance. This modern-day vampire tale set in San Francisco pounds a stake in the heart of literary conventions--transcending form and sexual orientation--and sends my blood rushing. _The Letters of Mina Harker_ is essential reading for anyone interested in contemporary literature.
