I just finished the book. I don't know what to say but I will try. I have been asking God to bring me a new level of Him and I just happened to find this book at my library and what I have asked for has come to pass. I know it is God and not the book but we recieve answers in many ways. The spiritual aspects of this book are mind boggling and amazing but now I have to put them into my heart through prayer and obedience. I am ready for this breakthrough and I am amazed by my Lord and Savior, the King of Kings, Jehovah God!

Well written simple logic reveals the how not-complex knowing our Lord really is. I feel this book was written by the Holy Spirit for those who believe. For those who do not have that much faith yet...it was surely written with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Whatever you personal convictions are this book will deeply touch anyone who reads it at thier very core.

Proving God's truths in the testing bed of tough times

Any review of this book that starts from the premise that Francis Frangipane glosses over how hard life can be has missed the point of the book. Francis' view is that when we get into an intimate relationship with God that everything else springs from there. So if you are in a hard place in life, however tough, the Word of God and - more than that - God himself are both still true. God does not choose sin, people do that - even if it means that we are sometimes on the receiving end of some very tough stuff from other people - and have committed serious sins ourselves. We are not robots, God gives us free choice. We can, as Francis points out in the book, always do as we see in Revelation Chapter 12, go into the presence of God. Even when we've failed. There is the place that we find healing and not just the reality of what needs healing, but the truth - because truth and reality are not the same. The reality is that God created each one of us to be able to have a relationship with Him and not as sinful people. But we can come to Him even when we have failed in major ways. We don't have to earn it or prove we've changed in any way. The Prodigal Son parable and the saving of the thief on the cross demonstrate that we need not live having to prove we're different before God will step in - if we invite Him and do so when we have reached the very end of ourselves and stop trying to measure up. When we submit to Him, he changes us bit by bit so that we are healed and permanently changed. And in the book, Francis does reveal he had a very tough time in his marriage when it seemed they could not find compatibility between themselves, but they looked to God who changed them. If that isn't a hard place to come through and find the truths in this book, it is hard to see just how hard it needs to get before Francis shows he has lived and learned these truths and proven God to be faithful even when life is really tough.

I loved the author's introduction and I quote, "Has God provided for us a Christian equivalent to the ark He provided Noah?" Ah! Now that caught my attention, could it be so, I wanted to know and I wanted to know where this stronghold of protection was. I was interested!

Francis Frangipane takes you out of pretense into reality at the onset of this work; explaining our walk to Horeb, where we are allowed to be real with God and our feelings about what is happening to us. We breath a sigh of relief knowing we can release our frustrations and fears and we breath in a breath of hope as the author assures us that God has a place of safety from all we are experiencing.

The author takes you on a journey, using men of old from the Bible as examples to bring you out of the many negative emotions that are trying to cripple you and leads you to a knowledge of knowing how to run under the shelter of God's stronghold of protection during trials and tribulations that life brings upon us all.

I would do this book an injustice to try and review the countless helps Mr. Frangipane gives the reader to obtain this desired result, but believe me he
definitely gives you all the information you need to run into God's Stronghold.

If you are a Christian that is feeling overwhelmed by the world that we are living in; if you are seeking the promises of a God who loves you,and the protection His Word speaks of, then this book is for you.

We all need a safe harbor, and for those that are His, there is no safer place than the Stronghold of God. This book will show you the way. It is a journey you will want to take.

I recently read The Prayer of Jabez and asked that my territory be enlarged. It has been as a result of reading this book. It is a blessing and very timely. I have already suggested it to others and have it posted as a featured book on my site. If you have ever wondered how you got over, read this book. It is a personal, heartfelt testimony that challenges readers to answer the call, to put God first.

I first learned of This Far By Faith in a womans magazine. It wasn't released yet but, the title alone made me think "am I putting God first in my everyday living?" Once I purchased the book I could not put it down--it covered all facets of life--reminding me that with faith in God nothing is impossible. I use it as a companion to my Bible and I was led to bless my friend with it and she also loved it! I intend to purchase more copies to give as gifts this holiday to encourage others to always keep the faith! There's so much more that I could say but the most important thing is that it will absolutely impact your life in every way.

I was privileged to receive a copy of this book for my 30th Birthday. I was at a point in my life when I decided to leave my comfort zone and pursue my long-time passions and dreams.

As I began to read the book I quickly decided that this was something I needed to digest slowly. This book was not only a detailed exploration of faith but offered practical and spiritual insight into everyday living. This is a book that I will read repeatedly and each time a different chapter will likely speak to my current experience.

This book was also read by members of a bookclub at my church. The members really loved this book as it inspired them to explore various areas of their lives including friendships and raising children. One member shared how the book was a great conversation starter in public places and another said it was the most useful book she had ever read.

From a discussion of "friendship" to "answering your call," the authors have not only shared their faith journey but offered practical wisdom and spiritual insight that will guide you along your own faith journey.

Each arena has it's Michael Jordan. In the courtroom, it is David Berg. And Berg has taken this natural talent and time-honed skill to a new level as he unlocks certain secrets that have catapulted him to the top of his profession. What most have considered his "magic," he explains as common sense practice. This book should be a required text at every law school. Those in the legal profession should not just read this, they should study it. The difference it will make in case results more than pays for the book, over and over again.

You Must Be Prepared to Win at Trial

In the Epilogue, David Berg states that the next generation of trial lawyers must win back the public's respect. Given this belief, it is no surprise that this highly accomplished trial lawyer passionately shares with us the lessons he has learned over an astonishing career.

It is difficult for any trial book to cover everything, and Berg's book makes a wise decision to emphasize the need for preparation which has been neglected in the trial literature. For example, over a third of the book, 126 pages, addresses the importance of preparing your case through discovery, conducting mock trials, and spending a lot of thought and time on voir dire.

Throughout the book, Berg shares memorable anectdotal stories from trials he has tried or famous lawyers he has known. The stories make for a very interesting read.

I am in my fifth year now, and I've still never had a jury trial, because of the explosion of alternative dispute resolution. Despite the diminishing frequency of the jury trial, this book is still an absolute must. To me, the following points the author makes are accurate--you must conduct litigation like you will go to trial, and, on occasion, you must actually go to trial. This book teaches you how to act like a real litigator. He emphasizes being a "bulldog about documents," and states the best depositions are the ones that draw blood. He also tells you how to pick a jury, how to open, how to conduct direct and cross, and how to close, among other things. In fairness, there really are just too many good parts to single anything out--the whole damn book is invaluable. Further, it is written with humor and with good stories. Highly recommended.

If You Try Cases, Get This Book

If you want to learn more about trying cases, get this book and splurge for the deluxe DVD edition. Failure to do so is, as Berg might put it, "false economy."

For example, the DVDs contain large parts Berg's closing in Wyatt v. Sakowitz, videotaped at the old Harris County courthouse. It is a rare glimpse of a masterful closing as it happened. You can hear the nervous tension in Berg's voice, but also the rhythm, emotion, and sincerity of his delivery. A transcript would get only about a tenth of what the tape captures. To use another Bergism, it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Berg also provides one of the best guides to jury selection I have seen. He shares strategies that took him decades to develop in a way that even a novice can quickly adopt and use.

Berg once said that history forgets many of the great trial lawyers. Berg's book will preserve not only his achievements, but also those of many of his contemporaries in the various war stories he uses to illustrate his points.

SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING FOR LAW SCHOOL ADVOCACY CLASSES

Review Date: 2005-01-31
In my 40 years of trial practice, few books are better organized, or present more useful insights in how to try cases. David Berg has been in the pits, has dozens of verdicts in all kinds of civil and criminal cases-everything from murder to patent infringement-and writes about them very well. Drawing on his experience, David explains the importance, goals, and methods of achieving those goals, for each step of representation, from the first meeting with the client, to the final words of closing argument. And while this isn't one of those "war story" book, he does use examples from his own cases and those of other trial lawyers to make his points. This book is a "must read," not just for aspiring trial lawyers, but for all who want to enhance their skills in the courtroom. It should be mandatory reading for law school advocacy classes.

This is a fabulous book, technically competent, well-written, easy to read and well-organized. It comprehensively covers all the tech-weenie needs to know about clients, proxies, servers, HTTP, and a bunch more without drowning you in math or killing you softly with a gazillion irrelevant details. I found the last chapter, the "Research Perspectives," to be particularly up-to-date and useful. There is a ton of information about HTTP floating around out there. Figuratively speaking, Rexford and Krishnamurthy have taken as their input the coal and produced as their output this diamond.

You've built a B2C or B2B web service. You get great response time from your office, but there are times when your customers across the country report poor performance.

This book with help you understand the entire path between browser and web server and how Internet latency and intermediaries like Proxy servers add to transaction delay. This is the only source that I've seen that a) Defines HTTP 1.1 and b) describes the relationship between HTTP and the TCP/IP protocol stack, making recommendations on how to tune the stack to reduce the effect of latency.

You'll learn that many of TCP's flow control mechanisms were designed for FTP, Telnet and Rlogin and some default settings are not optimized, or even appropriate for HTTP.

Do not be confused. This book is not Robert's Rules of Order (RROO). It is a companion volume designed to explain RROO. It is, however, a very good companion which I found to be very easy to understand and contained some very up-to-date information like how to vote by e-mail.

It has some other nice features like scripts to use in meetings. However, it lacks a simple table of motions, something that is included in most versions of RROO.

Unfortunately, the most up-to-date official version of RROO (the Newly Revised, 10th edition) is a huge book compared to the original volume that Mr. Robert wrote in 1876 as a pocket guide. To me, the large size makes the newest edition virtually useless. If you are interested in parliamentary procedure for a PTO, club, or church business meetings, you are also unlikely to need the most recent edition.

The last edition that Robert himself was personally involved in before his death was the 1915 Revised edition (not to be confused with the Newly Revised versions). This was the official version for many decades and I think is still good enough for most users. I purchased a paperback re-print of this edition from 1970 which also added a new preface by Robert's grandson.

Some supposedly modern editions of RROO are really just re-writes of the original 1876 version. I assume that as the original book is so old, it has long run out of copyright, so anybody can publish their own RROO. This may be a good thing as people looking for a more slimmed-down book may be happier with a modernized version of Robert's original pocket version. However, the 1915 edition, while expanded significantly over the original, is not so huge and I think a reasonable compromise.

So, to make a long story short. I would recommend purchasing some official version of RROO (again, I like the 1915 edition) along with Webster's book.

I accepted a position as Board Administrator in a charity organization in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to that, I had heard about Robert's Rules of Order, but had never used the book as a reference. In my time as a Board Administrator, I referred to this book often for a proposed amendment to our Constitution and By-Laws, procedures for notifying members of the Annual General Meeting, and to clarify the motion-making procedure for Board members. Robert McConnell Productions uses sample scripts to give readers can get a sense for how to conduct a board meeting (Chapter 2, "A Business Meeting in Action"), how to debate a motion (Chapter 4, "Rules of Debate"), and how to vote (Chapter 5, "Ways the Vote Can be Taken"). I passed my copy to the next Board Administrator and just ordered a new copy for myself. Board members have a significant advantage in Board negotiations if they are intimately familiar with RRO.

Swami Muktananda provides a masterful explanation of the Hindu way of life and the art of meditation as a means whereby individuals can achieve awareness or consciousness of their Godly core. What makes his explanation superior is that it is written in the language of ordinary people without all the flowery prattle and mumbo-jumbo of other Hindu theologians. It is educational, brilliant in its clarity, and inviting--a must read for people in search of inner peace (relief of stress) and greater spirituality. The review is also published on my website.

"We are all God" is the KEY message of this book and getting ourselves to REALLY REALIZE it is the most difficult part. It is our own disbelief in ourselves being GOD that is stopping us from attaining true, ultimate BLISS and HAPPINESS. Muktananda explains to us how to get rid of our negativity and doubt. He gives us the secrets of sounds (the mantra), breathing technique (our natural mantra that we do every time we take a breath)! Just as "The One Minute Guide to Prosperity and Enlightenment" gives us further, detailed SECRET TECHNIQUES that will SAVE US VALUABLE TIME & ENERGY so we can attain HAPPINESS & BLISS immediately! This book was TERRIFIC, it explains the Eastern Traditions in simple, easily understood and VERY ATTAINABLE terms. It is an awsome look at how we complicate everything ourselves and gives us the solutions to make changes in our life right now!
Thank you Muktananda for revealing these sacred techiques to us!!!

This is a great book for the beginner starting out on the path to self-realization. It is written in a style that is very easy to understand and contains some simple and yet profound truths towards enlightenment. I particularly liked the chapter on the mantra - om namah shivayah - and how the author recommends chanting it on the commute to work or when you have idle time. It's certainly been working for me and this little book is now a permanent fixture, dipped into regularly, on the bookshelf.

Back in 1996 when I was 40 years old somebody gave me a copy of this book for a Christmas present. It stopped me in my tracks. Where WAS I going? What most impressed me initially with Swami Muktananda's writing was how clearly he seemed to understand my existential quandry, as if, without even knowing me, he understood everything about my spiritual predicament, as well as having knowledge of subjects far beyond my grasp. Well, I was hooked. I now have a collection of two big boxes full of Muktananda books and Muktananda-related books. What can I say, Muktananda is one of those rare beings with the ability to impart Shakti to his readers, just with his word.

This book is designed to help people, heathen or not, connect and develope a relationship to the god Odin. It is not a dedactic scholarly publication, but rather a very personal look at one woman's devotion to Odin, her experiences and practices. It is set up by nine chapters, each of which looks at a different type of devotional practice to the Allfather. I did not particularly like the chapters on ritual baths, anointing or journaling to Odin, or the appendix of incense blends but only because those practices are not to my taste. I did really like the chapters on building an altar to Odin, making offerings to him, and making your own rune set, and the different mediations were interesting. I also thought the poetry throughout the book was well placed and added an extra dimension to the work. It would be a good buy for anyone seeking to know Odin.

Modern-day reconstructed Heathenry has had a number of books and articles written on it through the years. Yet for all the material that has been written, this religion has had very little text regarding matters that are far more spiritual in nature. This is a refreshing change of pace, to finally see some devotional materials on this religion. More so, it is well written from the point of view of a devotee.

For people interested in this religion, you can finally see a glimpse of the heart and faith of this religion, and see an entirely new perspective. This is a well written book, with a number of ways to help connect with Odin, or just learn something new about him. For anyone serious in expanding their spirituality, especially for a Heathen, this should be on your reading list.

This is the very first devotion published in the modern day reconstructed religion of Northern Europe, commonly known as Asatru or Heathenry. For so long the modern community has focused too much of their efforts on a vast body of work from ancient times, examining the minutiae of it; while failing to acknowledge or even write about the personal devotions happening in the community today. This trail-blazing book of profound spiritual reverence has caused a veritable onslaught of fellow devotional texts on the Gods and Goddesses of Northern Europe to follow, including a second devotional book on Odin by Krasskova, Walking Towards Yggdrasil.

So many people find devotional work daunting simply because they don't have an idea of where to begin. The Whisperings of Woden: Nine Nights of Devotional Practice offers suggestions that people can use as is, or adapt to create something unique to their own personal devotions and tastes.

Finally we have a text that points to this religion as being more than a subculture of people who like to play at being a "Viking" for the day, but rather demonstrates by the personal fervor of one devotee that this is a living, breathing faith where practitioners struggle with understanding and developing relationships with the Gods. This seminal work is filled with essays illuminating personal insights on Odin, Krasskova's personal thoughts and practices including suggestions on how to create an altar to the Old Man, a wide variety of meditation types, special recipes such as Odin incense, and heart-felt prayers.

This book is a must for those like myself who, while deeply attached to the integrity of the historical record, want more of heathenism than arguments over matters of fact and history.

This book, then, is a door towards the personal relationship that the author has with Woden. As I have a similar relationship, I found the book to be extremely moving and powerful. It is so rare to read books on heathenism which have any sense of personal connection or understanding. There is no abstraction here.

Furthermore, Galina is extremely clear about where the historical record ends and her own personal inspiration begins. This is an important step because in doing so she demonstrates that care for the historical record can go hand in hand with developing new expressions of heathen spirituality. The latter does not Have to come at the expense of the former.

Some of the practices offered in the book are not that directly interesting to me, largely because some of these things I have invented in my own way already. But the real gift is the inspiration, the invitation to forge new ways of exploring my relationship to One Eye.

Thank you so much for this work, Galina. I am deeply glad that I bought it.

Beyond the Breath: Extraordinary Mindfulness Through Whole-Body Vipassana Meditation
I'm not sure why Vicki M's book hasn't gotten more traction [read sales]. Why Buddhism offers intimate portraits of mostly very serious Buddhist practitioners. It's inspirational for those of us who do take our Buddhist practice seriously and are interested to know more about other traditions.

If I could be immodest for a moment, the book I wrote--Beyond the Breath: Extraordinary Mindfulness Through Full-Body Vipassana Meditation (Tuttle Publishing)--is also likely to be of interest to anyone who is seriously interested in Buddhism. It's focus is on sensation-based vipassana meditation [as taught by SN Goenka], but will also be very helpful for anyone who wants to know WHY Buddhist practice works so well. Such insight isn't just an intellectual exercise; greater understanding leads to greater confidence in the practice.

If you are sincerely want to step into the path of Buddha. I will recommend you, "Read it first."
If you've already practiced for years, but still have lots of struggles and confusions, I will recommend you, "Read it now."
If you think you are a great Buddhist, but actually lack of mercy to others, I will recommend you, "Read it ASAP."

It's a little discouraging that the author of this book found no time to interview what you might call "ordinary" people. The famous and the hip are high up on the list of Vicki MacKenzie's priorities, and perhaps the talented and the rich make better interviews, but reading so many of them in one clump would make a novice feel that if you're not in the "in crowd" than the Buddha doesn't want you in his religion. Which is not the case, not really.

Many Buddhists in the USA will tell you that they have drifted into Buddhism naturally, finding in it a place to forget about the cares and the oppressions of the Western way of life. They are emphatically not drawn to it because of its reputation as a nearly 100 per cent white practice. Indeed the few people of color who take to Buddhism are often treated like heroes of sanctity in the Buddhist circles of America. In meditation, we can all be color-blind.

Excellent For Anyone interested in Buddhism

Before I read this I was curious about Buddhism. After reading this book I was compelled to take my interest further. Through a series of interviews with reasonably well known and successful Buddhists Vicki MacKenzie's book shows us the many different ways we can choose to follow Buddhism. Some of the interviewees told of their trips to Nepal and their long retreats. Others told us how they balance buddhism living in a material world while still holding on to some of their western religious beliefs. Each interviewee also gives us a quick lesson on Buddhist philosophy and what they had gained form the practice.

I came away from reading this book with a good knowledge of the basics of Buddhist philosophy and the belief that whatever way I choose to follow Buddhism whether it be as a monk or a family man, it can help me to become a better person.

This book is an exact copy of her book entitled "God's Garden of Grace" (which is now out of print) only with a new title and cover! This book focuses on the fruits of the Spirit and how to live them out in our daily lives. The study guide in the back helps you dig deeper into the study! Very helpful!

This is the first Elizabeth George book I have read and I can't wait to read her other works! Beautifully written and inspiring. A great study guide for help in living out the fruits of the spirit on a daily basis. Guide to becoming a kinder, more gentle, loving woman while accually recognizing the strength in these virtues rather than the weakness our society leads us to believe a serving attitude shows. I loved this book!!

I love Elizabeth George as an author. She is very practical and easy to read and understand. She sticks to Scripture in her book and she encourages her readers to do the same. I would highly recommend this book and any of her other books to use in women's groups or just for personal pleasure.

This is one of the best books ever published. It is written in such a way that it can be read daily and re-read for years. The Laws of Life apply to every human being...no one is above these "laws". If everyone would read this book and make the effort to make the changes they seek, the world would be a much more peaceful place. These "laws" apply to people of all faiths and when you read this, you will understand. John Marks Templeton may have achieved greatness in the business world, but one of his greatest gifts was his literature. Buy one for yourself and buy one to give to a friend so the good in this work can be passed on...

The perfect gift a Father can give to his children.

Several years ago I received Templeton's Discovering the Laws of Life, as a gift. Each day I read one of the passages of the book and received what can only be described as encouragement and direction. I yellow marked every word of wisdom and found at the end I had turned all of the pages in the book to the color of my highlighter. In Worldwide Laws of Life, Mr. Templeton has again completed a masterpiece which should be placed nexted to the Bible as a source of wisdom and reflection. Last Christmas I purchased three and gave one to each of my three children as a gift. Over the year they too have expressed to me the profound pleasure they get in reading book, especially in times they characterize as troubled, but Templeton characterizes as, simply..the questions that life asks you. I encourage every Father, or Mother, to give it as a gift for any occasion. The wisdom in the book, related by the World's elite, cannot but improve your childs outlook and encourage his or her positive participation in life's journey.

Basically same as " Discovering The Laws Of Life".

This is by itself a magnificent book full of wisdom, but even as good as it is, buy "Discovering The Laws Of Life" instead by the same author.Avoid this one.
Why do I give this book a 5 star rating and at the same time I advise you to buy another one instead?
Well, It has the same laws, even the same paragraphs, but "Discovering The Laws Of Life" goes to the point in an easy way without adding unnecesary religious quotes or extra explanations to what has been already understood. However, the results are the same: You become a much better person and you see life very differently.
This book deserves 5 stars for that, but again, buy instead "Discovering the laws Of Life". That one deserves all the available stars.

These are the things I wish my father had taught me, and the things I wish my children will learn. It's such an extraordinary treasure chest of wisdom, one of those few books that you'd want to have stranded on a desert island or standed on Manhattan Island. Just superb.
