GREAT BOOK!! Stopped Foreclosure in 48 hours!!

This book is awesome! Carla Douglins' matter of fact candor about how to avoid foreclosure helped me stop the foreclosure and save a home hours before the auction. She even educated us on the foreclosure prevention laws in my state (Maryland) that NO ONE else told me about. The Workbook even help me recognize a rent back scam an investor was trying to pull (which is illegal in MD).

We were able to use the information in Section 2 page 39 & 51 to get extra money quickly. The best part for us was page 23, 87 & 88 which we were able to create a solution in 48 hours that the attorney for the bank and the servicing company both agreed to accept. THE DAY BEFORE THE AUCTION! :-) I am so grateful for this book. It taught me how to assess my situation BEFORE I deal with the lenders and educated me on how to prepare for the attorneys, realtors, and especially the LEGITIMATE investor who helped me save the home. The foreclosure prevention law in my state was there and none of the other resources I talked with ever mentioned it and how to successfully use it to work with investors. This book made it simple.

Thanks - Tim

It was user-friendly and had info for my state. This is a great tool and I would recommend it to others facing foreclosure.

A Great Tool for Investors Who Want to Help

Coming from the perspective of a real estate investor, I was really impressed with The Foreclosure Workbook. After reading the book for informational purposes, I bought several copies for the clients that I run into who are going through foreclosure. It easily distinguishes me from the "vulture investors" mentioned in the book, and has been a useful tool for attracting new business. Great resource for homeowners.

The Foreclosure workbook helped me save my brother's house. The book was so easy to follow and apply, that we were able to save his house within two overseas phone calls!

Currently, my brother is stationed in Iraq, and he was not sure what to do when faced with the possibility of losing his home here in the states. After hearing about the book on National Public Radio, I bought the book to see what could be done about the situation. After reading it through one time, my brother and I did the worksheets on the phone (first call), and then did a (second) conference call with his mortgage company. We were able to work out a payment arrangement that he was able to handle, and now he's looking into his other options, including renting out his house while he's stationed overseas. The Foreclosure Workbook helped so much, he asked me to buy another copy and send it to him in Iraq!

This book helped me make an arrangement with my lender that I could really live with because the book made me organize and then focus my financial picture BEFORE I spoke the mortgage people. The book is simple and it's thorough -- not a lot of fancy terms, but a step-by-step approach which is what I needed because I was at my wits end. I understood what the bank needed and what I could truly do. Sometimes you just need someone to lead you through the path in a clear concise manner so that you can take it the rest of the way.

I operated from a position of knowledge and not desparation -- most important of all... I saved my house!

Finale someone stood up for JFK !

Review Date: 2005-09-02
Like most people that lived through the JFK assassination I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news of his death like time stoped. I never believed what the United States government passed off as factual rationale, for the cause of this tragedy. The Warren Commission report did not make sense. I read it in the 1965 and could sense that something was not right. A friend of mine recommended this book to me she knew I was like a majority of people alive, thinking that we would go to our grave not knowing what really happened to JFK. It was her husband a career law enforcement official that convinced me to read this story; it was the best documentation surrounding the crime he claimed. Mr. Hemingway takes you on a trek that only he and JFK traveled while presenting new facts that I have never heard and would have never thought of. I would have never imagined that murdering someone over a political mistake could have caused the turmoil it did. So much of the story sounds like what is going in the United States today, it borders on surreal. The book made me livid. When I was finished; there was a lot of corruption exposed. Truly I can accept this research as fact and this gives me a sense of closure to this grave incident in United States history. Some minor editing changes could be made but it did not overshadow the ground breaking content and earthshaking ideas made this incredible.

It is becoming more and more clear that the US Government has not be honest with the masses. This book helps the reader draw a FACTUAL conclusion of what the US Government has been up to using strong and organized evidence. While the first edition has some typographical errors, it remains that Hemingway delivers a strong case.

A great contribution to planning literature

This is a must-read for any city, county or region that is considering a growth management system. Dr. Freilich is one of the pioneers in American growth management systems, and his personal experience in designing the systems is an invaluable resource. In response to Lewyn's comments, linking growth and infrastructure can be VERY controversial. If not done properly, it can lead to invalidation or takings liability. Even if done properly, a variety of stakeholder - including neighborhoods, the development and building community, and local administrators - usually weigh in heavily. The controversies can be particularly intense during the formative stages of the program. No jurisdiction should undertake this type of system without learning the lessons gleaned from this outstanding book.

Combatting Urban Sprawl

No one but Robert Freilich could maintain that the past 35 years of his life has been dedicated to combatting urban sprawl. When most of us hadn't graduated from law school, he was giving his own unique brand of "thoughtful consideration" to a critical issue which most communities had yet to recognize. Robert's book is an exceptionally informative volume, combining history of law, politics, and planning with a dash of autobiography. A great read!

As one of the other reviewers pointed out, this is a good introduction to modest, relatively noncontroversial things local governments can do to slow suburban sprawl, such as requiring development and infrastructure to move together. But I wish Freilich had been a little less optimistic, and focused more on how inadequate such steps sometimes are. For example, Portland and Minneapolis both have variations on urban growth boundaries, and Freilich praises the Minneapolis program. However, the Minneapolis program has basically been a failure: the Twin Cities keep losing people because the growth boundary includes far more land than the Portland version. Also, I would have emphasized that sprawl is a result not only of land use but of highway and education policy.

Directing and Focusing Development

This book provides an excellent introduction to the planning techniques for directing and focusing development available to state and local governments and a critical assessment of how they have been used in a variety of local and regional settings. At a time when state and local competition for available land has become increasingly intense, an understanding of the legal and policy bases of these approaches and the different ways in which they might be used in planning is critical to finding ways to accommodate legitimate public goals to the expectations of property owners.

This book, as always with Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, inspires and moves me

When I realize that I missed the opportunity to meet this man by a just a smidge, it instantly makes me want to cry. I had been into Buddhism at the time he was still alive, but not too seriously. I collected books, you know, and half-read some, finished some and all the while wasn't sure exactly what I thought of it. If I could blame someone other than myself, I suppose I would blame the New Age market out there which seems to expand exponentially every year and seems to be giving the same generic advice to an ever-broadening audience of desperate hopefuls that any path can lead to enlightenment while all the while never sticking to one path. Rather, it's mixed into a bubbling pot of flavor-of-the-week to sip now and again, as desired. By contrast, any form of Buddhism, including the watered-down westernized "psychology-only" flavor seems too tough and too complicated or too boring, too austere.

But this book is different! This author is different!

Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's many available books, practice text, cassettes and cds are unfailing evidence that this man was a great teacher. This book is no exception. He has an extraordinary ability to make the notoriously complex Tibetan Buddhism very simple and easy for westerners to practice. This book might be the pinnacle of those powers. So clear, so precise, so simple. All you have to do is follow his advice.

But, this is where most people have difficulty. Many other books make the practice seem simple enough on the outset, but the actual practice of doing this stuff hangs over your head because, while it might be simple enough, and make enough sense, there is no real desire to actually do the practice as others teach it. This is not true with "Gates To Buddhist Practice" (or ANY of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's books). This book immediately inspires you to practice. Just reading a few paragraphs makes you want to put it down and do a few prostrations, some visualization, some mantra, some generosity... SOMETHING! ANYTHING! This is because Chagdud doesn't just make it easy to understand, he teaches with compassion and lots of it. Compassion is the understanding of our suffering condition from the perspective of one who knows better. That compassion comes through loud and clear, so not only are you emotionally moved by his generosity and effort in these brilliantly crafted lessons, you get a sense of the understanding from an enlightened perspective. For example, if you see someone suffering and you don't know what to do about it, you will feel sad for sure; but, if you see someone suffering and you know exactly WHY they are suffering and WHAT to do about it, this awakens a different emotion in you similar to a maternal instinct. This is the compassion that Chagdud communicates. Once it is communicated, it changes your outlook completely and inspires you to action.

In fact, this quality has been carried on in Chagdud's students, which again shows what a great teacher he really was to produce so many more fine teachers. Go to any Chagdud Gonpa center and you will be moved. Go check out some of Lama Tsering Everest's podcasts available online and you will be moved in that same way.

This man knew the essence of the dharma and he knew how to teach it.
If you don't know where to begin with Tibetan Buddhism, this is the book for you. As Chagdud says on page 53, people are in a hurry to move beyond "kindergarten dharma" but the essence of the dharma is very simple! Because it is simple, it is often overlooked. People mistakenly think, "oh yeah, I get that, but there must be more..." while never "getting it" at all. You can't just read about the Four Thoughts, the Four Immeasurables, Bodhicitta, et cetera without actually transforming yourself by practice and think "oh yeah, I get that." It's not an intellectual abstraction to "get" in a relatively superficial sense. The essence is completely transformative to the mind and must be cultivated thoroughly within oneself in order for the essence to be "got."

Ignoring the simple essence in favor of superior teachings of the Highest Yoga Tantra, for example, will get you nowhere fast because you must realize when advancing to the superior teachings that the superior teachings are only superior if you realize they contain all the inferior teachings as well. One does not go beyond the essence of the dharma no matter how superior the teachings become. The danger of the more advanced teachings for westerners is that we are already highly intellectual and this is tied into our cynical nature. We love to dissect and evaluate things almost as a form of entertainment which, like all entertainment, achieves nothing but distraction. The higher teachings are incredibly abstract and difficult. They can entertain the intellect for years without accomplishing a thing. This is the reason they are traditionally saved for LAST in Tibetan culture. With the chinese occupation of Tibet, however, the dharma has been spread out around the rest of the world maybe a bit unevenly. Even a lowly practioner such as myself was able to receive transmission for the Great Perfection practices. I'm not complaining because it has been very helpful to me. In fact, it clarified what the Lesser Vehicles were trying to teach me.

And, for this reason, reading Chagdud Tulku again with a fresh eye makes me realize what an astounding teacher he really was. He combined the highest teachings right in with the simplest essence of the dharma. He had the View of Dzogchen and he integrated it with Vajrayana practice. If only one reads his advice and practices, that person will go far with Chagdud's instruction!

If this book inspires you as I know it will, my advice for the "next step" would be to seek out the practice texts and explanatory books and lectures on Red Tara Practice and Dudjom Tersar Ngondro from Chagdud Gonpa's online website, TibetanTreasures-dot-com. These tantric practices have been concisely perfected and translated into English by Chagdud Tulku himself for western students and are perfect for these fast-paced times.

Now available in a newly revised edition, Chagdud Tulku's Gates To Buddhist Practice: Essential Teachings Of A Tibetan Master offers the reader a firm grounding in Buddhist principles, illustrated with many anecdotes from the Tulku's native home of Tibet. Tulku is a meditation master, artist, and healer who has continued to travel and teach in both the East and the West; the questions he encountered while teaching form the basis to the revisions of this new edition. Gates to Buddhist Practice is a sobering, thoughtful, inspiring presentation that covers numerous aspects of Buddhism in depth, from karma and Bodhicitta to preparing oneself for death. Strongly recommended for Buddhist Studies reading lists and reference collections.

As this book makes clear, at its heart Buddhist teaching offers an approach to living that emphasizes compassion, simplicity, and peace. Understanding this core is essential to spiritual progress, but it's rare to find a text that so elegantly addresses the cultural issues that may impede this process. "Gates to Buddhist Practice" is such a book. I found the frank discussions of all kinds of issues refreshingly straightforward and clear. Chagdud Rinpoche is obviously a teacher of profound insight and consummate skill, and I'd recommend "Gates" to anyone interested in gaining fuller understanding of a Buddhist approach to critical issues of life, death, and spirituality. At a time when a lot of us are feeling unmoored and stressed out, it's a blessing to have difficult questions answered in a way that is insightful and provocative without being pat or simplistic. I highly recommend this book.

A great read for both newcomers to Buddhism and scholars

Those who love reading books by the Dalai Lama and Sogyal Rinpoche will enjoy the clear, insightful writing of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche. Newcomers will love the simple prose and delightful stories from old Tibet and modern America. Those who have read much of the American literature, will appreciate the simple, subtle references to the many dimensions of Tibetan Buddhism. This book is a favorite which I read and re-read, always finding more sustenance.

Those who are interested in bringing a non-violent and humanistic approach to world problems, will love Chagdud Tulku's willingness to bring the benefits of the Tibetan Buddhist approach to daily life at home and in the world. I work with law students and lawyers who are trying to bring a non-violent approach to a profession weary of aggression and the old ways. And, I assign "Gates of Buddhist Practice" to law students of all faiths. It is fascinating to watch how Chagdud Tulku talks about Tibetan Buddhist tools for cultivating compassion, skillfulness and wisdom. While he uses some Buddhist terminology, his tone is open and inclusive. It serves as a "gateway", itself, into ecumenical dialogue. In these times in which so many conflicts find their roots in misunderstandings among religious perspectives, this skillful and wise approach is sorely needed.

I can't imagine a better book to give to a friend or to buy for yourself. (Put this book under the tree for yourself!) I hope that you will find much joy, solace and understanding in this book, as I have..........And, I hope that you, too, will hear the greatest gift of this book, which is between the words on each page..the love of a great spiritual master.

In this so-called introduction into Tibetan Buddhism, we learn from a great wisdom tradition about the contours of human consciousness and we come away lighter and refreshed.

I love this book. In it Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche offers the most clear, complete and concise overview of Tibetan Buddhism that I have read. The teachings can be appreciated, and clearly understood on many levels, from a person who is completely new to Buddhism to an experienced practitioner. I have often recommended the first edition of this book to friends who are curious and looking for an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism, and they have found it very helpful. This new edition has been expanded to include more questions from students, many of which are very in-depth and result in detailed answers that make the reader feel as if they were sitting in front of Rinpoche while he teaches.
The book also includes many of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's wonderful stories and Tibetan folk tales that serve to illuminate the teachings in a very down to earth manner. This book is like a polestar, such a comfort to come back to again and again for inspiration and guidance, showing us the way to tame and train our minds. I would recommend this book very highly.

One of those sorely needed books whose time has finally arrived

The pairing of Tony Campolo and Mary Albert Darling in the writing of this book was nothing short of brilliant. Author and professor Tony Campolo has long been known as an evangelical champion for the poor and oppressed, believing that the good news encompasses far more than the salvation that gets us to heaven. The name of Mary Albert Darling will be a new one to many readers, but in her capacity as a Jesuit-trained spiritual director, she's an ideal collaborator with Campolo for a book on what the authors call the "holistic" gospel --- one that incorporates evangelism, justice and ancient spiritual practices that have long been unfamiliar to Protestants like themselves.

Their discovery of those ancient traditions, and practicing the traditions in their own lives, prompted Campolo and Darling to write a book that would provide Protestants with a deeper understanding of what is known as Ignatian spirituality --- the spirituality taught by St. Ignatius --- and its relationship to both evangelistic activity and working on behalf of the victims of injustice. The authors set the stage by assuring their audience --- evangelicals --- first, that the spiritual practices that have long been the domain of Catholics are just as legitimate for Protestants, and second, that what they're advocating is "mystical Christianity" and not some form of New Age mysticism. In the introductory chapters, and throughout the book, the authors make it clear that Jesus Christ and His work on the cross is foundational to all of the spiritual practices they follow.

While there are many ancient practices used in contemporary spiritual life, THE GOD OF INTIMACY AND ACTION focuses on three: the prayer of examen, lectio divina and centering prayer. Following Campolo's detailed explanation of what Christian mysticism is, how it brings us into a more intimate relationship with God and how it provokes us to reach out to others, Darling gets down to the business of describing what exactly these three contemplative practices involve. Briefly --- because you will want to buy this book, and I can't do justice to it in these few words --- examen involves taking a daily account of your thoughts and actions, both good and bad; lectio divina is a specific method of reading scripture that draws you closer to God; and centering prayer involves the practice of "stillness" in the presence of God.

These three practices are highly personal, but Campolo and Darling contend that the end result is anything but: "The ultimate purpose for mystically intimate experiences with Christ is to make us into persons through whom God can transform the world that is into the world that God intends it to be," the authors write in the postscript. "Christian mysticism is not an end in itself, but rather is the means to creating a kingdom of people who will not rest until we see 'justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream' (Amos 5:24)."

Evangelicals who have long had this nagging suspicion that there is more to faith than right doctrine and right living should benefit greatly from reading the book and incorporating Ignatian practices into their daily lives, as should those whose work for social justice has lost its spiritual steam. And those who already follow the three contemplative practices will likely find enough here to enhance their spiritual lives. There is simply no other book out there that presents contemplative practice in the context of evangelism and justice; this is one of those sorely needed books whose time has finally arrived.

Dave Knight -
This book found me at the ground level of a church plant that several friends and I began in the city of Pasadena, CA. I couldn't have read it at a better time. After finishing seminary I had already formed a strong philosophy of ministry which I planned to use as the DNA of our new church. It's not an exaggeration to say that this book encompassed and enhanced several of my ideas and thoughts on evangelism, social action and personal piety that we have incorporated into our new church.

The book not only gives good theory but it is filled with practical, time-tested exercises that have led well-known Christians into a deep relationship with God, such as the Prayer of Examen. Darling's studies and experiences have seasoned her in a way that makes her writing impacting, challenging and encouraging. Campolo's writing, as usual, puts the reader on the edge of their seat. The pages are loaded with quotes and wisdom from myriad people across multiple eras.

Being involved with a church plant requires a focused evangelistic emphasis. On p. 33, Campolo says that "Since then, there has never been a question in my mind that mystical spirituality is at the base of effective evangelism..." Campolo and Darling helped me understand that effective evangelism comes from a deep relationship with Jesus, as opposed to a certain method or approach. This is just one of the many ways I have been challenged from reading this book. I highly recommend it.

As I read The God of Intimacy and Action I was challenged to know Christ more deeply and experience what they refer to as "first love" more often and to make Him known to a world in need of transformation through a contagious love. Tony and Mary remind us to rely on the Holy Spirit to empower us to do the work of the Lord, not to earn our salvation, but as an overflow of our intimacy. With this comes a desire to do His work and "...give an account for the hope that is in us" (1 Peter 3:15). This book is very relevant to a generation that is overwhelmed with the urgency to do something, because it talks about the balance between fueling intimacy with God, place in community and working for the freedom and justice of others.

Well worth the read!

The God of Intimacy and Action by Tony Campolo and Mary Darling urges the reader to work for justice and tells us that "it is our intimacy with Christ that ignites us to do what God commands."

Intimacy with God is a concept that I have been attracted to for as long as I can remember, but never really understood how to obtain. I consider myself a person who is concerned about justice and loves the Lord, but I have been stuck in a rut. Is going to church, praying when I think about it, and trying to be "good" enough? Darling points out that "a relationship with Jesus should be anything but stagnant of stuck." I came to this book asking, "what next?"

This is not just an inspirational book; it is a textbook on the mystical path. It instructs the reader in practical ways to fuel intimacy. These practices include:
1. The prayer of examen
2. Lectio Divina (holy reading and meditation on the word)
3. Centering prayer
Like many, I have been uncomfortable with words like "mystical," and intimidated by any sort of ancient or meditative practice. Campolo and Darling approach the topic with such humility and add personal stories that lack presumption and are a joy to read.

I was incredibly convicted by this book and didn't realize how much I needed to read it until I was finished. How do I remain full in such an empty world? How can I have a relationship with God that is not just about me, but encourages me to action? How can I expect to be God's light to the world without proactively pursuing intimacy with him? How do I even begin that journey? This book is a must-read for anyone struggling with these types of questions.

I have been an admirer of this book since its release -- but I'm writing this Amazon review now as a sign of how much this book has grown on me over the months. I think that, in 25 years, when we look back as journalists chronicling this era of religious reawakening -- this book likely will turn up as a classic. It's a milestone of these returning waves in Christian reflection that are brining many evangelicals -- including Tony Campolo and his co-author Mary Albert Darling -- to a new appreciation of timeless spiritual disciplines.

This isn't about converting anyone to anything -- or urging evangelicals to switch Christian denominations. This book is both a manifesto -- and a sturdy guidebook -- for the journey of reclaiming much that has been lost in certain branches of the Protestant world. In light of early 2008 data from the massive Pew study about American religious affiliation -- indicating that traditional Protestant numbers are dwindling -- this book is a hopeful, helpful window to where anxious Protestants are finding both solace and great new vitality.

Think of this book, perhaps, as something like Dr. Spock's timely book on child care at the height of the baby boom. It's not that Spock or Campolo or Darling have come up with brilliant new discoveries. What they have done in a timely and pitch-perfect way is try to re-equip millions for the journey in which they are already engaged.

In his 70s, sociologist and evangelist Tony Campolo still is doing some of his most important religious work. There's a concise power in his messages these days and, within his 56-page section of the new, "The God of Intimacy and Action," Campolo lays out a major contribution to the debate over the place of spirituality and social justice in the 21st-century Protestant church.

Mary Albert Darling of Spring Arbor University writes the rest of the book, taking Campolo's eloquent call to embrace both pillars of religious life and shaping it into a practical guide to what she calls "The Mystical Path."

If you've never read Campolo and regard him vaguely as a popular speaker somewhere out there in the evangelical arm of Christianity -- then you must buy this book and discover a true spiritual bridge-builder hard at work.

In Campolo's section, you'll meet St. Francis and John Wesley again from perspectives you probably won't expect.

Let's say a little prayer for Dr. Campolo's continued vigor! And let's add a prayer that Darling will emerge from her co-author's role into a vigorous new voice herself.

Christian activist, Tony Campolo, who is also professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University in the United States, has teamed up with Mary Albert Darling, a spiritual director from the Ignatian tradition to produce a book on "mystical Christianity." Darling is the associate professor of communication at Spring Arbor University and is a Protestant who is well versed in Roman Catholic mystic tradition.

They define "mystic Christianity" as a "holistic Christianity" which includes mystical spirituality, evangelism and social justice (p.xiv). A mystic as defined as "one who experiences God in transrational and nonempirical ways." (p.4). What this means is that all Christians are mystics as they will have personal experiences of an encounter with God. Campolo highlights five types of mystical experiences:
1. New insights
2. I-Thou relationships
3. Heightened awareness
4. Conversion experiences
5. Breakthrough experiences (p.4-12)

He takes care to compare these with what William James described in his book, The Varieties of Religious Experience. While William James' research was not in a Christian context, there are enough similarities to accept Campolo's descriptions.

The main thesis that Campolo and Darling proposes is that a Spirit-filled Christians who have had mystic spiritual experiences will subsequently be concerned for evangelism and social justice. Campolo writes, "I believe there are four basic consequences for a sense of justice that grows from mystical unity with Christ. Each of them is essential to actualize something of the justice and social well-being that are part of what the Bible calls the Kingdom of God. They are
1. An awareness that Christ is in the poor and oppressed, waiting to be loved and served
2. A call to challenged institutionalized religion
3. An understanding of the importance of entering into one another's sufferings
4. A plan for the world as it should be" (p.41)

This thesis is not new. Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen were the latest in the long line of Christian mystics who propose such a thesis. Merton's activism comes from his time of contemplation in a monastery and Nouwen from his contemplative experience in the academia. Merton's activism were in the political and cultural arena while Nouwen were in the handicap and socially deprived.

It is a common misconception that contemplatives are too otherworldly to be of any earthly use. A study of the life of Gregory the Great, Teresa of Avila and Catherine of Siena is enough to convince anyone that contemplatives are also social activists. What is new in this thesis is that two Protestants, Campolo and Darling propose it. What is also interesting is that social activist Campolo has to draw on the experience of Darling to support his concept of "mystical Christianity." To develop or experience a mystical Christian life, Darling suggests the practice of the following `ancient' spiritual disciplines
1. The prayer of examen
2. lectio divina
3. Centering prayer

will transform Christians into becoming more aware of the need for evangelism and to act for social justice. This is an important point because without a depth in God, our social activism will be mere `good works'. Thomas Merton explains it in Contemplation in a World of Action as thus, "He who attempts to act and do things for others or for the world without deepening is own self-understanding, freedom, integrity and capacity to love, will not have anything to give others. He will communicate to them nothing but the contagion of his own obsessions, his aggressiveness, his ego-centered ambitions, his delusions about ends and means, his doctrinaire prejudices and ideas."

This is a good book in which the interconnectiveness of Christian spirituality and practices, evangelism and activism for social justice are revealed as essential for a holistic Christian life.

I rarely get real excited about devotional books. However, this has become one of my favorite books. It balances well the use of Scripture and the use of anecdotes. I shy away from books that rely strictly on stories to convey their message. This relies a lot on Scripture, but not so much as to be overwhelming or hard to read. It truly helped me to see God in a different way. I highly recommend this book!

We all have times of doubt about who God is and if His character is consistent with who He claims to be. Chip Ingram brings the one true God, the God Almighty, before you and gives you a clear understanding of who God is and why He is Lord of All. Chip Ingram is one of my favorite authors, there is no question he is led completely by the Holy Spirit and his style of writing is so personal that you are moved from the moment you begin reading his books. This book is no different from his others in that they are powerful, inspirational, and filled with a message straight from God. You will find yourself face to face with God throughout this book and you are sure to draw even nearer to Him. I would highly recommend this as well to anyone who is questioning their beliefs in God, a friend or relative who does not know God, or someone just struggling in life who needs to know God is with them. I HIGHLY recommend, "God As He Longs for You to See Him!"

A true friend is someone who knows our strengths and weaknesses, and loves us anyway.

The heroine in Grace, whose name happens to be Grace, discovers the value of friendships as she struggles with the devastation of her father's untimely death in an automobile accident caused by a drunk driver.

Grace's mother, although still mourning the loss of her husband, finds the strength to reach out and share God's love with others.

The characters are down-to-earth, caring, and sensitive. I found myself becoming attached to them as if they were part of my own circle of friends.

Ms. Murphy creates a remarkable story which shows the importance of not only having friends, but being a friend.

Grace is a story of healing and one of intercessary prayer. Praying for others in the midst of your own pain and suffering; something that only comes from a close relationship with God.

Grace is a story to share with love ones. It makes a great gift; share it with someone you love!

As I read this heart-warming story, thoughts of grieving families in my own community surfaced repeatedly in my mind. The story centers on fourteen-year-old Grace Hollingsworth and portrays complex emotions that arise from the sudden, tragic death of her beloved father. Other issues common to her age as well as struggles and strengths of her family, friends, and neighbors are important components of the story, as is the victory that comes with faith in Jesus Christ.

Tom Hollingsworth's untimely death overwhelms this Christ-centered family, bringing not only deep sadness but also conflicting emotions toward the drunk driver responsible for their loss. Feelings of anger and resentment for this man compete with compassion and Christian love until a surprising twist near the end of the story forces them to a place of decision.

Grace is a story I can highly recommend as engaging entertainment to teens and adults, but more importantly, to anyone who is struggling with grief, loneliness, confusion, self-esteem, or wavering faith.

"Ground Zero" made me question my relationship with God. While reading the book, I realized how difficult I had begun to think it was to have a relationship with God. We all have a relationship with the "Big Guy" whether we realize it or not. In the time it takes to read the book, a person can strip away two thousand years of stipulations man has attached to being able to walk with God. Even if people chose not to do the Mindfast, I hope everyone will slow down long enough to think and thank.

Can this be true? God is too cool for words!

Ground Zero helped me to look at my life in a different way and think as to what direction my life is headed. Comments from Ken Stabler were very meaningful. Ron Cook is definitely on a mission to touch lives and wants people to know God personnally. In this book he accomplishes that goal.

An enlightening book - wherever you are in your walk w/God.

A pretty good little self-help book that leads us to reflect on what might be hindering us in becoming truly happy. I like the author's recognition, especially in the last chapter, of the importance of the spiritual life, especially prayer. He also has a very interesting discussion of Alcoholics Anonymous and how faith in God is important in overcoming our own psychological limitations and addictions.

Possibly the best self-help book ever!

Appropriate for anyone high school age or over. Full of revelations about self-image, getting free from "what other people think", learning to love and appreciate yourself, learning to trust yourself, and so much more great stuff we all need to know. You read it and say, "That's so true! How could I have been missing that all these years?!?" Get yourself in good working order and then you might be able to tackle the rest of the world...or live in it anyway, without getting beat up yourself! Easy read, in a day or over several weeks. Lots of food for thought. A life-changing book! Would be great on audio, like to listen to while in the car!

This book is part of a multi-media project in that it contains a music CD bearing the same title. After reading the book, the music is even more meaningful because it covers the background of the person who wrote the lyrics. Carol Cymbala, a pastor's wife who leads the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, describes the challenges she faced and how they were overcome through faith in God. The focus of her book is not her as hero, but on God as deliverer. In fact, the lyrics to the title song, emphasize that theme, that in spite of the wavering of the individual, "He's been faithful." It's a song and book of gratitude to God for his faithfulness. She gives the history of the early days of the congregation. She talks about how God added to the church. This is a testimony that is encouraging to other Christians in that it shows how God worked in one context, New York City, and causes one to realize what He did for others, He is willing to do for them. There are various individual stories contained in this work, i.e., different members of the choir have their testimonies featured throughout the book.

This book has totally turned my life around as far as my involvement in the music ministry of our church. Carol Cymbala tells us the true secrets behind the success of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Those include prayer and dedication to the cause of ministering to people through music. This book will shake you to realize that music in the church is not for entertainment or self-gratification, but to help draw people to Jesus as we lift Him up in praise and worship. I will never step to our platform to minister through song and think differently. We are asking all of our choir members to read and discuss this book.
