This Guide Is Wonderful - for Kids and AdultsReview Date: 2006-09-23
FROM AARDVARKS TO ZEBRASReview Date: 2000-11-16
If your kids enjoy the nature programs on cable TV, they'll love this book.
Beautifully and accurately illustrated, the accompanying text is authoritative and educational. Just as importantly (if books are to compete with TV) it is also very entertaining.
The layout of "Mammals" follows the zoological classifications of the various "Orders" such as carnivores and marsupials. It even includes a section on the monotremes, those egg laying exotic mammals from Australia, namely, the platypus and echidna.
This book is a refreshing change from the typical TV nature show where animals and their behaviour are often anthropomorphised. You know the thing ...... " Bwana the baboon beats his chest boastfully after his latest conquest".
The highlight of the book is a four page panoramic fold out depicting the scene of the annual mass migration of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles across the African plains.
This book provides an ideal launching pad for those children who are keen to learn about the animal kingdom.
A beautiful and informative book.Review Date: 1999-04-26
I LOVE THESE GUIDES!!!Review Date: 2002-12-28
"Mammals" contains two parts; the first part gives an overview of the world of mammals, comparing the different characteristics (eyes, ears, feet, etc.) of mammals. Part two is packed with illustrations (over 500) and information about the rich variety of mammals that live on the earth. Each entry contains information about the animal characteristics, food, young, habitat, as well as close relatives.
This guide is packed with useful information, and is a great resource of adults as well as children!

i now know how the battery really works, know what it really does, what the altenator does. i know about switches, sensor, actuators and solenoids now. at first you you need time to grasp the concept, but it gets easy to understand very quickly. 5 stars.

ONE OF THE BEST MANUFACTURING BOOKS OUT THEREReview Date: 2005-12-14
This was the textbook for the course and we covered most of it... I have to say that the book is very thorough and really teaches you in a practical way. The contents are very up-to-date and full with his own research results (which are cutting-edge). Also, the book's price has been kept very reasonable so that it is "student friendly".

Great Intro to MapsReview Date: 2007-05-31
This book uses clear language and illustrations to introduce maps to young children. Starting from her bedroom, Lisa maps her and Penny's (her dog) world starting with the most familiar and moving out.
Concepts include using a key, mapping to scale and using a map to give directions.
Your children may be inspired to map their own world.
learn all about maps from a girl and her dog!Review Date: 2004-12-08
Lisa's class at school is learning all about maps and how to use them. As a project Penny has to make a map of her own. Lisa maps out her world and the world of her dog Penny. Children are introduced to terms such as map title, key, symbols, compass rose and scale.
What did you like or not like about the book?
The pictures featuring the main character Lisa and her dog Penny are colorful and entertaining.
I would recommend this book to parents and teacher to share with children in grade 2-4. It's very useful tool in teaching basic geography.

A useful reference about the facts on marijuanaReview Date: 2000-09-23
Did you know that 32% of all nicotine users develop a psychological dependency on their drug, as do 15% of all alcohol users versus only 9% of marijuana users? The book is full of useful facts like these.
If you want to get involved in the debate about what drug policy will serve us best you should read this book. Thank you, Mr McCaffrey :-)

Excellent collection of NASA documents for serious enthusiasReview Date: 2000-06-04
The bulk of the CD consists of lots of NASA documents related to the Viking, Mars Pathfinder/Global Surveyor, and the ill-fated Mars Polar Lander/Climate orbiter programs (the CD was produced prior to the loss of both spacecraft). Documents related to the now-cancelled Mars 2001 programs are also included. Especially valuable are the Viking, Mars Pathfinder/Global Surveyor and Mars 98 press kits, the out-of print NASA history of the Viking project, "On Mars", the Mariner 4 final project report, and the complete abstracts (many one or two page mini-articles with photos)of the 1999 Mars conference which details current scientific thinking on Martian geology, climatology, and potential for life.
Reproduction quality is generally comparable to the original documents (although many original NASA reports, especially early ones, were printed rather poorly to begin with, while more recent ones are of high quality)and the photos in the image gallery are excellent.
Although many of the documents are available on the Internet, many are not, and the sheer sizes of these documents could take a long time to download over ordinary phone lines; here they can load in seconds.
While I would not recommend this collection for those who are only casually interested in Mars exploration, for serious enthusiasts of space, historians and potential authors, this collection is invaluable if not essential. WSN deserves high praise for bringing us this collection, and one hopes they continue archiving and preserving official NASA history at an affordable price.

Excellent collection of NASA documentsReview Date: 2000-06-04
Reproduction quality is fairly comparable to the original NASA documents (some of which were poorly printed to begin with while others are of excellent quality) and quite suitable for printing if you are willing to burn through many printer cartridges. Many if not most of the documents are out of print and very hard to obtain, although some can be downloaded from the Web. However, the enormous file sizes of some of these documents would take hours to download unless you have access to T-1 lines, while this CD allows you to access the documents in seconds.
While I would not recommend this CD to those with only a casual interest in Mars exploration, after all, NASA documents are rather dry, this is an invaluable resource for serious space enthusiasts, as well as for authors and historians studying the history of Mars exploration.
World Spaceflight News has done an invaluable service in making these documents available and one hopes that they continue with additional CDs.

Detailed info on techniques and processes Review Date: 2006-07-05
Real World WisdomReview Date: 2004-04-17
PS. I met one of the authors who was presenting at a product launch a few weeks ago in New York and got my book autographed.
Essential tool that any SE be they new, experienced, or a manager should read cover to cover.Review Date: 2006-01-03
Mastering Technical Sales, not to be mistaken with the similar sounding Making The Technical Sale by Greenwald & Milberry, is an excellent practical book that covers the needs of not just new SE's but also provides advice and knowledge for the more experienced SE, SE manager or even executive tasked with creating and maintaining an SE organisation. What I found particularly useful were the real world examples of both successful and unsuccessful practice - these lend a level of credibility and relevance to the material that perhaps the Greenwald & Milberry book lacks. (Btw, this is also a fine & very relevant book for any SE). I also particularly liked the chapter organization of summarizing the chapter goals, presenting the material, summary and then presentation of a skill-building summary for both the new SE and the experienced SE.
The book tackles pretty much every aspect of a typical SE's life from what type of person does it take and why do we do this? What do I need to do to be successful? What resources should I call upon? When? How? When & how to use executives. How to leverage corporate resources be they product management, engineering, technical support, marketing, or external resources such as partners. I thought the section on 'crossing over to the dark side' was particularly relevant and accurate as it covers the risks, the rewards and the reality of whether this is something that an SE should consider or not and more importantly, why or why not?
The book covers all the standard stuff very comprehensively from the sales process itself, presentation skills & techniques, objection and competition handling plus the realities of how to manage the sale to avoid the pitfalls of demos, succumbing to technical trials & evaluations or being driven by your competitor's agenda. All excellent material and covered well with real war stories.
Whilst this isn't the cheapest book on the subject, I'd definitely consider it worth every cent. Highly recommended.
ExcellentReview Date: 2005-07-23
While there are numerous "sales methodology" books available today, nearly all focus on the sales people and provide little or no information for the Sales Engineer and others who address the technical sale portion of the overall sales process. Mastering Technical Sales focuses on this critical area and shares how to manage and execute technical sales tasks to enjoy the highest success rates, both in the sales process and in one's professional growth.
Advice to SE's: Buy it and read it.
Advice to SE Management: Purchase copies for all of your new hires.

Very interesting stories, well-writtenReview Date: 2009-01-14
This isn't the type of book you'll want to read all at once. Each story about an individual has different lessons, different concepts, that you'll want to discuss after reading. Great for home-schoolers or parents wanting to enrich their child's education.
Very happy with the book, now I've got to get Volume 1.
