If you love Celtic decoration, and would like small designs to incorporate into your work this is a perfect book. The designs are small, but still large enough to work with and are wonderful to embroider. They can also be used for other crafts such as woodburning. The designs are varied with usually more than one size of a design style, and each transfer (in most cases) can be used more than once. The only drawbacks I see are the fact that the design cannot be washed out so, if you are embroidering it you need to be sure to cover all the lines, and because there are several designs on a page they must be cut out to work with which in most cases leaves you with a tiny piece of paper to work with. Making it difficult to pin it down and to iron. But it is a wonderful book of designs and the pluses far outweigh those two negatives. Dover tends to publish some wonderful transfer books at extremely reasonable prices and this book truly fits in both catagories.

Children may be familiar with the popular Usborne "Irish for Beginners" pictorial guide; Davies offers a similar compendium of pictures and words that can be used by adults as well, with many more entries. As a visual learner who finds it valuable to match images to print in my own struggles with mastery of Irish, this sort of guide I find an excellent supplement to the usual Irish dictionaries and grammars. Attractively colored in the Usborne style, this can also be enjoyed by families using Irish. I wish such books were larger and easier to lay flat open, but this remains an affordable and handy aid that I'd recommend.

Provides a good overview of Welsh including grammatical guides and a brief history of the area. Language courses are very practical and efficiently done... unlike some other language books, you don't have to wade through silly, extraneous dialogues about non-native students learning the language. The dialogues get right to the salient linguistic points. Excellent!

This wonderful book is about St. Kentigern, also known as Mungo, which means "the beloved". While recounting Mungo's life from conception to death and all episodes therein, the author tells a flowing, entertaining tale. His warm insights reveal a deep, mature Christian perspective, while giving an intelligent, well-researched take on events during Mungo's lifetime. Photos are included from such places Mungo is associated with in Wales, Cumbria, and Scotland. A few sketches and very good maps add detail, while fascinating relationships between individuals, even minor personalities rarely seen in histories of the age, are painted vividly. A very moving book that I was able to read in one day.

I cannot recommend this book too highly. Excellent, inspiring Jungian analyses of the myths of ancient Ireland. Bravo!

Aside from being an excellent audio CD to listen to, this book/CD set offers a great range of difficulties, a very fun variety of tunes, and months of material to learn and practice. I love it because you just don't hear very much acoustic celtic music, and yet everyone I play it for loves it. It's fun to break out the pick at times and flatpick some bluegrass, but for sitting around listening to your guitar as well as challenging your playing, this set can't be beat. Tab is very accurate and good, and again, it's worth buying just to listen to the music on the CD.

David Adam's pungent, freshly minted prayers in the tradition of the Celtic saints are strong medicine for overdoses of prayers composed in the theologically abstract mode. Adams artfully and ably demonstrates the possibility of full-orbed, life-encompassing communion with God. His uncanny resonance with the visions of St. Aiden and St. Cuthbert must certainly pay tribute to the ambiance of his post on Holy Island (Lindisfarne).

I recently visited my public library. Being a Boston Celtics fan, I searched the sports book shelf and found this book. I flipped through it, and it looked interesting, so I checked it out. I arrived home and I started reading it. This book is filled with player profiles for every Celtic on the 1988-'89 offseason roster, including The Big Three: Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale. It has an in depth articles about the Celtics legendary announcer, the late Johnny Most. It has an interview with then Celtics GM Jan Volk. It has a closeup on timeless former Celtics coach Red Auerbach. It has everything a Celtics fan could dream of. I would suggest purchasing this book to all NBA fans.

One of my best friends in work is from Boston and Amazon is the only place I could find it - not even on the Celtics website. She was "wicked stoked" to receive this for Christmas. Plus, she used to work for the Celtics, so all the better.
