The author, Debbie Gisonni, a fifteen-year veteran of the high-tech industry had it all. Then she lost her mother, father, sister and favorite aunt, all within four years. After four more years of ever-increasing success and responsibilities, Gisonni quit her job and spent some time soul-searching.

The end result is that she started Real Life Lessons; her own company devoted to making life easier and happier for women and became the goddess of happiness. With this book, she shows the rest of us how we are our own goddess of happiness and how we can be more happy.

Your journey to happiness begins with a quiz to determine your current level of bliss. Then, in very short, 1 or 2 page chapters, Gisonni shows you how to capture even more happiness for yourself. Each chapter ends with five ways to practice the chapter's lesson or skill and space for writing your own related affirmations.

Gisonni has some great suggestions for all of us. Much of it is what you've probably heard before, but she presents it in a straight-forward, simple, easy-to-incorporate way in just a few short pages. For example, in the chapter on Play, she shares with us how her husband encouraged her to swing in the park and she had a great time rekindling a childhood joy. Then, she encourages us to play--buy a hula hoop! Her "five ways to play" list includes revisiting your favorite childhood games and do one each week. For me, that would probably include swinging, lip-synching to The Partridge Family, climbing a tree, making mud pies, and jumping rope. I might need to train for a few months first!

The Goddess of Happiness has so many ideas for us: slow down, stop the noise, choose joy, lighten up, indulge, simplify, accept your life, be rich, ask for help and many more. I read through this book all at once first, and now I re-read chapters every day, sort of as happiness reminders. Because I know happiness is a choice, and yet, sometimes, life makes you forget for a minute. With this handy little guide, you can build your own happiness from the ground up, or renovate what you already have.

THE GODDESS OF HAPPINESS is a treasure...easy to read, inspirational and it constantly reminds me...that I am a Goddess with all my happiness right inside of me ready to share with those around me. This book is every bit as delightful as its author. Last fall, I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie! THE GODDESS OF HAPPINESS exudes her warm, charming and optimistic outlook on life. I bought this book for my two daughters and hope to gift it to all of my dear friends on their birthdays.

This book is trite, full of cliches, and has nothing new to offer an intelligent reader. If you seek inspiration in your daily life, check out "Living a Beautiful Life" by Alexandra Stoddard.

I'm a pretty cynical (but content) person in general and tend to pooh-pooh the "how to be happy" genre of books probably because of my gritty, punk rock past, but, darned if The Goddess of Happiness didn't help me get through a really heart-wrenching breakup. I'm forever grateful. Now, whenever I need a little lift, I simply open the book to any page and read a little bit. I haven't lost my edginess, but my heart's a little softer. Go figure.

Reading the Goddess of Happiness is like sipping chocolate in the morning. The texture of Debbie Gisonni's stories (you can almost see her writing with a smile) bring out the spirit of indulgence we feel and often submerge due to the pressures of the day. She'll show you how to enjoy chocolate without the guilt, how to get moving without a big exercise commitment, and how to count your blessings even when you face stumbling blocks. A quick read, a fast way to smile.

It's hard enough for a kid to absorb and become part of American culture. This book provides a glimpse into Choi's attempt to master two cultures. Choi's memoir is both very funny and thought provoking. She has a wonderful storytelling style - she lets the characters dish out the plot with "kettles" of unabashed humor. I haven't read a book this quickly in years.

The book was hilarious, I couldn't put it down. All the situations that she describes in the book are just great. It made me feel better that I'm not the only one with a crazy family, especially since I also come from a Korean background. The book def puts a smile on your face and if you want more she keeps up a blog, so check that out too.

I have a Korean mother, and an American father. I was raised in as much of the Korean tradition as possible, and often thought my mother was out of her mind. Having American friends, I would see how their families and mothers were and thought that my mom was just neurotic and out to make my life miserable.

Annie's book is so well written. I felt that I could relate to everything she wrote. By reliving vicariously through her words, I was finally able to see that my family dynamic was not about control and disappointment, rather more about love and wanting the best for me, albeit in a very strange, stressful, mind game sort of way.

Annie says on page 196: "Though we hate to admit it, we care what our family thinks; we've been brainwashed to seek approval and obey, just like the rest of Korea's children." I've repeated this line again and again, and not one of my Korean friends (and siblings) haven't laughed out loud at the funny, but very true statement.

You will fall in love with Annie's family. You will adore her mother. You will feel like you know her in some strange way. This is probably because her spoken English is written as is, and you feel like she is talking to you. If you have a Korean parent, you will laugh at how the English language is somewhat butchered, yet that you are able to read and understand every bit of broken English, mispronounced and incomplete words. You will laugh at the different logic that cultural differences bring, and you will find yourself in stitches over the similarities that seem to be universal in the Korean family dynamic.

This book is a joy to read. It is side splitting funny, and not dull for one second. You'll start reading and not put it down. Then you will go through withdrawal when you are finished. You'll find yourself ordering copies for friends of similar backgrounds, and referring to over and over again.

Annie is comical and quick witted. I only hope that she will continue her memoir into the future.

hilarious and heartfelt, Annie Choi's book made me laugh out loud, and explained to the rest of the world what it's like to grow up Asian American or specifically, with nutty but loving parents who can barely communicate with you. Except in "Engrish" that is. However, the funniest thing she has written in my opinion was her "Open Letter To Architects" which is not in this collection. Good stuff though.

Having served with a Battalion of Marines back in my Naval Service days, I was unable to put down Major Seth Folsom's book on the Highway War. My impression of the Marine Officers with whom I served, their dedication to duty and to their men, left a lasting impression on me. Major Folsom's story reaffirms that admiration. What is so noteworthy is the maturing of a combat Marine who emerged as a competent professional able to meet any challenge under extreme stress and pressure to complete the assigned mission. First to use LAV's in combat, his unit encountered many imponderables and maitenance problems while continuing to move forward in the face of unknown enemy resistence. He never once failed to give credit to his Marines who fought under his command and alongside him. Their desire to stay in touch and close to him after returning from Iraq is evidence of the high regard they have for him. No higher acolade can be give than to have your enlisted troops want to serve with you again as they said in the book. Major Folsom represents the finest we have in the future core of military leaders. We need more of his kind if we are to maintain the freedom we enjoy.

I have read the previous comments of others both pro and con. I have known Major Folsom's father for many years. Quite obviously, the acorn fell close to the tree. His father is one of the most outstanding officers with whom I have had the privilege to associate. From reading this book, I feel confident that Major Folsom has inherited all of his father's outstanding qualities.

Two matters were brought to light in reading this excellent documentation of his tour. First, I wish that I had the presence of mind to record a daily record of my tour as a squadron commander in RVN. Second, I commend Major Folsom for his honest evaluation of his accomplishments and his revelation of what he considered his failings.

There are many who can understand the stress of combat because they have been there. The ground troops, perhaps more than any, face the true cruelty of the close-in combat environment. POWs, more than anyone, experience a different type of stress. No one can truly express the stress unless he or she have been there. There are far too many who critique the events without having ever experienced being there. Folsom has.

Major Folsom's forthright analysis of his tour should be required reading for every newly commissioned officer of any branch. Folsom recently departed and is presently in-country on his second tour. I wish him and those men with him God-speed and shall look forward to a critique of this tour. May I add that I would be more than willing to serve with this officer anytime, any place as I have with his father.

Years ago Marine artist Col Charles Waterhouse drew a cartoon of a grizzled Marine Gunny, complete with cigar, pulling on a Santa outfit as he prepares to entertain young children, as compared to his normal demeanor of an intimidating Gunny. Maj Seth Folsom's book details a similar transformation, as he grows from a nervous young officer facing his first combat to that of a skilled and articulate officer and husband.

A Captain at the time, Folsom is a blunt and honest writer who discusses his fears and concerns of what he is about to encounter in Iraq. The likely-hood is that many Marines and soldiers, both officers and enlisted, can identify with his worry of how he will fare in his first combat: Can he hack it? How well will he perform? Will he make any mistakes that might cost the lives of his Marines? The difference between them and Folsom is his frankness in discussing these concerns.

Folsom uses the story of his role as company commander to tell the story of Delta Company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as they participated in the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. From breaching the berms into Iraq, to watching and waiting as his fellow Marines fought at An-Nasiriyah, to the fighting on the way to Baghdad and beyond, Folsom pulls no punches and spares no feelings in his descriptions of leading 130 Marines into combat. The invasion in March 2003 was the beginning of an unusual war against a non-traditional enemy, and Folsom has to find his balance as an officer when dealing with both his superiors and the Marines under him while learning how to lead Marines in combat. Sand, stink, rain, lack of sanitation, fatigue, grime, and nerves are just some of issues with which he dealt even before he and his men even encountered the enemy. Folsom covers the military actions from 21 March 2003 through the April 2003 capture of Baghdad, and he accurately recounts the stress, excitement, and confusion of those historic days.

With the book written from the notes and recollection of his wartime journal, this is a fascinating memoir revealing are his feelings as he dealt with his Marines, and how he matured as an officer and as a human being. Many readers, especially his fellow officers will find much to critique in his rough and abrasive leadership style, and his dislike of the media is at odds with Marine Corps policy. But it is Folsom's same bluntness that lets him write so revealingly - and perhaps these same readers can use his vignettes as an `after-action report' in order to guide themselves in similar circumstances.

In perhaps a reflection of the asymmetrical nature of this war, Folsom recounts participating in briefings with the generals and colonels leading the invasion, and later singing with his men as they blast rock & roll music at rock concert levels. Perhaps one unexpected bonus of war in the wired age is that we readers can share in our warrior's thoughts and experiences while they are still fresh, and as such, Maj Folsom's book is both an exciting read and highly recommended.

I couldn't wait to read this book and when I finally got my copy, it wasn't all I thought it would be. Basically you follow the life of a young marine LAV Company Commander during OIF. He comes across many times as a whiner and someone I wouldn't want to work for. I felt sorry for his Marines many times when they had to deal with him and his emotional outbursts. I really saw nothing different from this book than any of the other books like this based on OIF. I could have passed on it.

You may hate this war and our current President for getting us involved in it, but after reading this book you can only respect and honor those doing the fighting .Folsom's thoughtful leadership and concern for his men, his belief in the Marine Corps and The Mission turned my head around.
The more liberal you are , the more you need to read this book.

I'd give anything to find a man who actually had some N.U.T.S!!!! PLEASE read this book if you're a man and give a copy to every man you know!

Don't wait! I found this book by chance in a local bookstore. I've begun to grow up a lot since reading it. It's been very helpful in clarifying a lot of issues about myself and my relationships, and understanding what I want and how to get it. It's all about standing up and being the man I want to be. Wayne's book has got me on that road. Unlike so many other self-help books, N.U.T.S. is focused on what men need and how to bring it into action. Onward to being the man, husband, father and son I want to be!

Got this book a couple of days ago and I'm really digging it! It's really on point with everything I've seen so far ... strong, straightforward, sensible, and very pragmatic. Great insights, great reminders, great tools, and probably the best book I've seen for men in the last 20 years.

Very accessible and highly recommended for any man bugged by that nagging feeling that he's settling for less from himself than he wants and deserves.

I have read and re-read Wayne's book and have now given copies to five close male friends. We all agree the information in this book is invaluable and has helped us to better understand how to get what we want out of our relationships, while helping us get what we need as men to grow and prosper. The book is well written and makes for an enjoyable read. Many times I find myself re-reading a chapter or reviewing the "Tools", "Tips" or "Bettermen Actions" for practical advice on handling a situation.

In short, this book is a quick read which will have a great impact on you and your relationships. I highly recommend this book due to its direct and no non-sense approach. Based on the many responses from my friends, I can see Wayne and this book heading for prime time TV in the very near future.

How to be an Adult is a great book to guide the reader towards establishing boundaries in any relationship. It is a reference book of sorts. It is small but don't let the size fool you. It takes a while to read as the concepts that are introduced are new and you find yourself attempting to figure out how to apply them. Great read for those who need to affect positive change in relationships.

I agree with others who said this book is not a fast read. It takes a few pages at a time to analyze and apply the information to your own life. I see that the author is very educated person. He gives a lot of statements from famous psychologists. On my opinion some of the authors own statements sound even better and underline better point than those of famous once. I enjoyed the book, although it was a little difficult to read. A lot of thinking should be involved when reading this book. It's definitely a very helpful book. It changed my perception of life phenomenally. I received a lot of answers to my questions: where my fears come from, what is a loss and how to live with it, the most important for me was explanation on unconditional love- I love that part. I highly recommend this book!!!

This is a great book. Its a dense read, every word is important, so don't think you can just read it in a single afternoon

I really appreciate the no nonsense easy to read style. It's a bit much to read straight through -- I like focusing on a couple pages at a time and marinating in them. A great handbook for those with questions about who and what they are.

I found this book helpful over 6 years ago when I first read it. I just finished reading it again (for the third time); the author's thoughts and understanding of life-issues (loneliness, relationships, self-esteem, adulthood, happiness) remain as helpful and relevant now as before. The way he contrasts "anger" (a natural feeling) from "drama" (an avoidance of true feeling); his exposition on "neurotic guilt"; and the paragraphs that lead up to "If people really knew me, they would not like me" illuminates one's understanding of oneself and others. Author Richo (Ph.D, psychology) makes clear the many areas of our life that we have responsibility for. The book contains helpful tables (checklists, kind of)that can be used (when viewing things or responding to stimulus) to develop better attitudes and habits. This book (like Nathaniel Branden - "Six Pillars of Self Esteem") does help one understand happiness in adulthood and also give insights into how to help our children grow into successful adulthood. Another book (Bernstein : Emotional Vampires: Dealing With People Who Drain You Dry) is also very useful.

Beautifully written. Inspiring and thought provoking. If you want some clear insight to help you gather momentum and live the life of your dreams this book will certainly inspire you to do so. Many blessings to Kurek for his honest and heartfelt words.

I purchased the book only because of the author, the title really annoyed me, but because I knew of Kurek I had to buy it...

I actually put off reading the book as the title just didnt grab me... But I picked it up a couple of weeks after I purchased it and I am glad I did..

It is an amazing book, and after 10 years down this path of growth, I love that he isn't just talking the talk, he has been there. I can relate to much of what he says...

This book isn't just a book on motivation, its a book on life... Yes you need to keep an open eye in places, but wow, what a ride..

If you skip this book, you may as well skip all the others as well.. This has something for everyone.

Kurek Ashley is a new discovery of mine and I am so pleased to have found his latest book, "How Would Love Respond? a work of art. You will get caught up in the writing and be enveloped in the consummation of love. Let go, let love in your life.

"How would love respond" I read in a weekend. once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. All I can say is buy it and read it.

I loved it so much I bought 17 of them, had Kurek sign them for me and gave them as gifts to my friends.

Do yourself a favour and get it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kurek's book. It is inspiring and easy to read. Are you in the doldrums? Have an empty space that just won't be filled? Hungry but don't know for what? A slow and thoughtful reading of "How would love respond" can get your spirit moving and give you great info on how to get back on track to the good life. I highly recommend "How would love respond" for everyone who questions why life goes the way it goes and how one can get moving in a positive direction and reap the rewards of knowing what to do and how to use the insights. I was a little disappointed since I purchased it to play in the car and on a portable cd player. It only plays on the computer disk player. I'll have to download it myself to an audio MP3 format. It must have been recorded as a DATA file. The narrator is a little momo-toned and I was very surprised that I zoned out on a self-help type CD. There are 14 chapters that run anywhere from 2 minutes 16 seconds to 26 minutes 14 seconds. Some are short, most are average 5-10 minutes.

The "I Dare You plan," first published in 1938 for the young and young at heart, is brightly authored by William H. Danforth, founder of the Purina Company. Written in scoutmaster style, this little gem will have you saluting to adventure. It is precise, simple, and uplifting.

"That is the first principle that I want thoroughly to fix in your mind--that life is a four-sided affair--that your daring program is going to lead you into physical adventures, mental adventures, social adventures, spiritual adventures. You have not one, but four lives to live--a four-fold opportunity to grow. A body, a brain, a heart, and a soul--these are our living tools. To use them is not a task. It is a golden opportunity. To find new capacities within you is not robbing you of any pleasure. It is bringing new treasures into every waking hour. It is helping you touch life at all angles, absorb strength from all contacts, pour out power on all fronts." Danforth adds "How dare you have within yourself these four-fold capacities and not use them?"

Like to be riveted into action? This book will do it. You will also feel rather selfish after the first reading (for witholding your dynamite). Go over it again several times. Mine is highlighted at every point (and there are many). I suggest you study I Dare You! along with the vintage movie "Fighting Father Dunne" (1948).

As one of the other reviewers noted, I too read this original book from my father's library when I was [...], in the 50s. Although almost forgotten, when I was writing articles on leadership, I realized this may have been the single most important book I had read...and used throughout life, becoming a leader in every...yes every...organization I belonged to, from high school Senior class President, college fraternity President, Band president(s), VP-Pres. elect of a national association, President of a state-wide organization, to Editor of a writers Quarterly and business owner. Now at 71, and looking back, "I Dare You" is quite possibly the only book necessary for directions in life. It's not about "success" or "money," it's about being your best and being the best FOR everyone around you.

It was a book I have always needed but never had.
It's really worth reading not only for those who are really in love with lingerie, but even for more practical readers who want to make their life more comfortable. I've read the book in a couple of days and really enjoyed and wanted to have more. Very concise and to the point. A good investment to return to when it was already once read.

This is a great overview on how to select lingerie best suited for your body. The author, Rebecca Aspan, is wonderfully compassionate towards her readers and understands women from AA to EE... The book celebrates the female form with practical applications, such as helpful ways to measure yourself. She even has a chapter for men!

Something great about the book is Aspan includes an array of body types for her lingerie models from full to thin, from busty to compact. She understands women are created uniquely and really has a firm understanding of female bodies and what fits, flatters, and supports. She offers useful tips on how to properly wear a bra, how underwear should comfortably fit, etc. This is less of an overtly sexual book, if anyone might have misconceptions of the title. Yes, it is a sexy little book, but sexuality simply comes with the territory. It's more of a book for a woman to take better care of her body, personal dress, feel comfortable and confident because she's not pestered by a pinching bra or a horrendous wedgie, and feel great whether someone will enjoy her underwear with her or not.

This is the book to gift to the woman who feels that sexy underwear is for special occassions (weddings), someone else (wear for husbands), or not something that *fill in the blank with moms, older women, etc* do. Buy the book and prepare to change your view and buy some new sexy undies!

I saw a review of the book on the Internet and added it onto my wish list on Amazon.com. I put it there kind as a joke. Leave it to my mother in law to purchase the book that was added on to my wish list as a joke.

I didn't really mind because I was interested in the book so I read it. The author of the book is the owner of the store La Petite Croquette a lingerie store in New York City.

Although the book is really meant for women it was interesting for me as a guy to read. Most of the book is put together in a no nonsense "This is what you need to know when it comes to lingerie"

The first two chapters of the book talk about why owning high quality lingerie is important. It focuses on how lingerie makes a woman feel sexy and attractive.

The nitty gritty portion of the book really starts out with chapter 3 when it starts talking about bras. This is easily the largest single chapter in the book and it simply states what most women should really know. There is a lot of information about finding the right cup size and band size. It also has a short section on important dates in bra history. It includes a little bit about different styles of bras and what different bra types are good for.

The next section is on panties. It talks about VPL visible panty lines. Different styles of panties are listed and once again a list of what type of outfits each is good for.

The next few sections talk about sleep ware, shape ware, stockings and pantyhose and tights. Each section is organized like the section on bras.

The next section is one of the best section its called tips for women. It basically covers the same topics as the first two chapters but organized in a different way. It even talks about the very racy Perl Thong which sounds like a very interesting outfit to me.

There is also a nicely written section just for men. I think the major two point listed for men was be prepared for sticker shock. (lingerie is expensive) The other hint know the size of the woman that you are trying to buy for.

There are two other section one on caring for lingerie. The author advises washing all lingerie by hand. If you don't have time to wash by had use the gentle cycle. However she advises never drying you lingerie in the dryer always air dry. The heat of the dryer will destroy the elasticity of any lingerie.

The last section talks about the different types of fabric and how a person can build up there own lingerie collection.

This is a really good no nonsense book about what a woman should know about lingerie. I wish that my wife would sit down and read it. I think that women often forget how much simple lingerie can do to flame up passion in a man.

I would advise this book to any woman. I think this book has something most women have not thought of. The section on bras would make this book good for almost any woman. I think the simple fact that 9 out of 10 women are using a bra that does not fit proper is shocking.

This book has lots an lots of pictures. Pictures of yesterday and today's underwear and how thongs and g-strings can be worn comfortable. It also tells how underwire bras are not soppose to poke or hurt. The text is very informational and very undersanding.

I'm a male; I wanted to know more about womens undes. I learned alot from this book. I did not know that most visable panty lines came from wearing the wrong size panties, also how you should not wear white panties with white sheer pants (like a nurse uniform)

I told my wife that she was wearing the wrong size bra and she told me she was not. I measured her and told her she needed to be fitted. I convinced her to be fitted by a pro. She did and she was wearing the wrong size. She bought a couple of underwire bras that day. That same night she throwed away every bra she had (yes every bra she had). The next day we went out bra shopping. I never seen her so happy about bra shopping. She never liked underwire and I told her how your not suppose to feel the underwire. Now that she has the right size bra, underwire is all she looks for and she says underwire helps with lift.

As a man I found out why there's so much womens underwear and how to buy it. I buy her underwear that I like (sexy lingerie, thongs, g-strings and sexy bras;) I'll tell her; I bought me someting knowing how she only wears it for me and for a sort time. Now she wears what I buy as underwear even down to the thongs and g-strings as everyday undes. She feels very sexy now. I think that now I'm married to a diffent women. Her personality has changed for the better. I'm very thinkful for this book.

We want our outterwear to fit right. Why not our underwear. Yes only we know whats under our clothes but whats under our clothes can also effect the way we feel.

I highly recommend this book to any male or female. We all buy or will buy womens underwear. Guy are clueless about this (well maybe I can't say that for all guys) but I was lost, I had no clue???

Journalist Neely Tucker doesn't sugar coat anything about his experiences working in an African orphanage and the gut wrenching, heart rending story of how he (a white American)and his wife (African American) struggle to adopt Chipo (a black African infant girl)in a country not keen on Americans or journalists. This book is a study in contrasts of race, culture, gender, nationality, and personality how they all affect Tucker's family. Wonderful story told from the heart but not sappy or sentimental. This is gritty but inspiring reading.

This was fantastic! I was routing for them the entire book. Moving & emotional - I felt like I was experiencing their pain and frustration and then joy - what an experience!

In dealing with their personal frustrations, the author shows us the hurdles and challenges of wanting to help in nations that need it the most. It is a good read, heartwarming. But unlike most books, it left me in search of an organization that can break through and really offer help to children touched by AIDS.

Fabulous from the start. So much intermingles in this book - history, politics, personal struggle, life in Africa, bi-racial familes, adoption - that to narrow it down to a memoir wouldn't be doing it justice.
Following the writer as he pushes you through each page, you find yourself involved in the world through the eyes of this family. It's one of those books that you rush to get through and then you regret what you've done once you see there's only a few pages left.
When I find an author of this caliber, I stick with them. And Neely Tucker sure can write.

This memoir goes to show on how faith and love can conquer all odds. It has opened my eyes on the issue of AIDS and the politically unstable country of Zimbawiae. A very touching love story of father and daughter.

Book in impeccable condition. Fast shipping. Haven't read it yet, but am looking forward to reading.

If you could read Beauty, then this book would be where you would find it. As odd as that sounds, it's truly the way I felt after just one chapter. I felt like I had experienced beauty incarnate. I hesitated to buy this book because I thought it might be "too Buddhist" or too sentimental. Do not be deterred by these reasons. I have treasured it, recommended it, and as a minister leant it out with great joy to people from all walks of life, rich and poor, highly literate and plain-spoken. It is one of those books that cuts through a lot of folderol and gets to the inmost heart, giving folks something nourishing and simple like a good breakfast for the soul.
