Asian-American Books

Today, East Indians are the largest Asian-American group in the Chicago area. Asian Indians of Chicago brings the story of this Chicago community to life through black-and-white photography as well as select personal documents. Each photograph has a descriptive caption; together they show people at work, at play, at social gatherings, at festivals, or simply going about their day-to-day lives. Asian Indians of Chicago is thoroughly enjoyable to simply page through, and a wondrous visual treasury of a vibrant, thriving culture.

The book is available now. It helped me gain a better understanding of organizational systems and corporate culture from the Asian Pacific American viewpoint. The case studies were amusing and enjoyable, thus helping to guide me through the theoretical concepts that would of been other wise too overwhelming. The discussion questions and exercises were also very useful.

I am constantly asked for a good recipe for Chinese Chicken Salad. The one in this book is absolutely delicious and worth making for a dinner party on a hot night. The chicken is grilled with hoisin sauce and served on light somen noodles.

I also am a big fan of Soba, Japanese buckwheat noodles, but other than putting them in a vinegar-soy dip, I had no recipes to use them. This book has quite a few, including a Green Tea Soba Stir fry, which combines my favorite ingredients.

The best part of the book is the inclusion of recommended wines to serve. Chosing wine to go with Oriental or oriental-inspired foods isn't so easy. It's great to have a guide to use and the wines could also apply to other standard oriental fare.

A book that encompasses all the Asians in Texas and throughly gives insight into what other cultures have been through and are today.

5 VERY BIG STARS

When one thinks of a Texan, one thinks of a big white guy with both a cowboy hat and belt buckle much larger than they should be. "Asian Texans: Our Histories and Our Lives" is here to point out a forgotten set of people - the Asian Americans who also have resided in Texas throughout its history. Covering notable and important Asian American Texans throughout the rich history of the state, "Asian Texans: Our Histories and Our Lives" leaves no stone unturned, making it highly recommended for any collection focusing on the impact Asian Americans have had on the country, and for community library American history shelves in general.

Ozaki was a real original, a samurai fighting for political modernization and responsible government. Elected to the very first Diet in 1890, he served for more than 60 turbulent years. He knew everyone in Japanese public life and draws sharp portraits of them and their actions. The story is told clearly enough (with annotations where needed) and vividly enough to serve as an introduction to Japan's political history. The editing and translation, by Ozaki's grand-daughter, is excellent.

This book is a masterpiece. It is a very touching story and an unbelievable historic account. The records and logs included in the book are originals and are astonishing! This is a must for everyone to read and a great book for the younger generation to grasp a bit of history before it is lost. Truly an amazing work!

This is an excellent review ofd contemporary girl culture that is vital to comprehending what is going on in current society. The cover imaage is an amazing peice by a great AJpanese Art Star and the images inside are excellent and well chosen. This is a must have for any collection.

Today, it is rare to find an academic work that attempts to fit into more than one narrow field. The book by Scully (a classmate of mine years ago) is valuable to those interested gender studies, US-East Asian relations, and more traditional diplomatic history. She examines how Americans living in China's treaty ports, including prostitutes, merchants, and criminals, sought to take advantage of their citizenship and the privileges it offered under the unequal treaties. In fact, the actions of some Americans in China so worried the diplomatic establishment that officials attempted to "rein in" their own citizens, or even remove them from China. Overall, this is book proves that U.S. diplomatic history means more than the actions of Secretaries of State and ambassadors.

I would like to have the book, "Battle for Korea, in hard cover.

At least two sectins of the book address combat actions by my unit the 187 Airborne Regimental Combat Team (ARCT).

We jumped twice into combat while in Korea.

I jumped as a radio operator with L Company, in the first to operate for Capt Hart, and in the second one to operate radio for Lt Brami who lead the third platoon.
