This is a great CD. I was concerned that hypnosis would not work on me, but the last couple of times I've used the CD I've awakened from my "trance" and noticed I'd been drooling! And I was sitting up to listen!

Helpful but disappointing in small ways

At the beginning of the recording Ms Decker says that in case of emergency you will be awake and alert. For some reason she restates this a couple of times in the course of the program. I found this very distracting and unnecessary. Generally the content is good, but sometimes it sounded too much like reading from a text.

Of all 20 of the CDs I have bought for meditation and hypnosis this is the one that stood out. It's very easy to follow, with no difficult visualizations, but a deep and wonderful hypnotic state is acquired. I put this on my MP3 player and now anytime I have an emotional pain in my mind I go right to this CD and it is erased, and replaced with a calming peace and emotional control. Janet is amazing and I hope she makes many more CDs. Thank You!

I listen to audiobooks daily and these are among the very best in terms of quality, relistening value, help and self growth. The total package is superb. Sit down relax and indulge.

I have been telling coworkers and friends about the change in my life and health. The power of suggestion is powerful. I no longer look like I stayed out all night. I look forward to my time relaxing with them. I own 5 cds by Janet Decker.

I have used one other Janet Decker CD besides this one. Voice is soothing, no trouble settling down and actually relaxing during this stress filled holiday. Got my skeptical boyfriend to try it and he enjoyed it. We both find Ms. Decker's voice soothing and will definately buy more of her products, especially the one for deep sleep as my BF is an insomniac. I have tried other CD by other people and the ones by Janet Decker are just a better choice...in my humble opinion.

A GOOD READ

This book is very unique in the fact you expect it to be about a haunted house but actually the main subject is the struggle of growing up different. I got this book because I love haunted house stories but I have to admit I got more than I bargained for. The author did a good job bringing her awkwardness and pain to life especially when he was almost discovered with his sister's bridal dress on in the attic by his father! I don't believe in the gay issues but I felt very sorry for Jimmmy as a boy who was so confused and noone to turn to and I really believe considering the fact he did have sexual feelings for a couple of females and the desire to change that he could have if he had gotta the help he needed. All and all it was a very well told memoir and her personality really came thru in the story.

A fascinating story woven with the backdrop of a transgender young man haunted both by his phsyical identity and the physical haunting of a house in main line Philadelphia. It is a very poignant, at times sad and then humorous book. I deeply admire the struggle of the author and the way in which she wrote this moving story. The call to be real and to "find ourselves" is one in which we all struggle to achieve on varying levels.

This book picked up steam after a chapter or two and never ceased to be less than enthralling. Boylan's story of growing up transgendered and in a haunted house is a tale that probably no one else can tell, and she does a remarkable job. Even better than She's Not There, in I'm Looking Through You Boylan recounts a rich childhood and adolescence filled with love, doubt, pain, joy, and how both the living and the dead have an impact on our lives. A surprisingly addictive read, and highly recommended.

At first glance I'm Looking Through You: Growing Up Haunted: A Memoir seems to be about growing up in a haunted house, but it's much more than that. Author Jennifer Finney Boylan uses the near-translucent spirits inhabiting her family home as a metaphor for her dissociated youth. She spent her first 40 years as James Boylan, the boy's and man's body a bad fit for her soul.

The Boylan family moved to the aptly named "Coffin House" on Philadelphia's Main Line, and at once young James began to observe ghostly shapes drifting through the rooms. Through the teen years and in later visits as a young adult, alienated by feelings that "James" was meant to be "Jenny," the author continued to experience the ghosts. In more recent years, after transgender surgery turned James into Jenny at last, she visited the house with a "ghostbusting" team and came to a better understanding of the strange presence and what it was foreshadowing to the boy, near-translucent himself.

This memoir follows the theme of author Boylan's earlier book She's Not There: A Life in Two Genders, expanding on her life with a full cast of eccentric extended family members and friends. Boylan's humor has a dark cast; she deflects her serious moods with lightning-quick turnarounds, yet the reader never doubts her seriousness. The book is full of music and cultural references that at times are the only tethers holding Jenny/James in the real world.

Parent and partner, professor, friend, musician, daughter, sister -- some of Boylan's relationships have thrived and some suffered. Her books leave me believing that, as she states, she's "solid" at last. I'm Looking Through You: Growing Up Haunted: A Memoir is not your everyday memoir but it will make you think -- about ghosts, but especially about the human experience.

I didn't know jack (or jill) about Jennifer Finney Boylan when I picked up this book. I was only interested because it was described as a "growing up in a haunted house" memoir, and I can't get enough of the paranormal.

Imagine my surprise when a few pages in I discover that Jenny was formerly Jimmy.

At first I was annoyed at what I perceived as falst advertising. But in no time I found myself captivated by Jenny's unique voice and perspective. She captures perfectly the goofiness of teenagers in the '70s, with all cultural references intact. The section on Jimmy's first job as a bank teller had me laughing out loud because it reminded me so much of my first job.

By the end of the book, I loved both Jimmy and Jenny, and the whole haunted angle was almost a moot point.

I'm looking forward to reading more by this talented writer.

Our daughter begins every day saying "I'm not going to chase the cat today!" Jessica Harper's books --- and every single one of her CDs -- just couldn't be more popular around our house. This story is delightful, the rhymes clever, the whole cast ebullient and full of spirit. Jessica H. has created a universe where tolerance, good will and great fun reign-- what more could you ask? Linsday Harper Dupont's illustrations are lively, marvelously quirky, gorgeously colored. Couldn't recommend this book more highly.

I'm Not Going To Chase The Cat Today is a fabulous choice for those who pride themselves in discovering new & different choices for kids! Not only is the chasing theme adorable, but the illustrations of the animals in their "people" garb are hilarious and imaginative and just great, silly fun! I also wholeheartedly suggest that you check out Ms. Harper's CDs for children---she is a terrific songwriter with a GLORIOUS voice. Her lyrics range from funny to funky to sweet & cosy. Her style is classy, smart, stylish and diverse--truly different than any other artist out there. I promise you'll find yourself slipping her CDs into your player--even when the kids are outside chasing each other!

Once more, Jessica Harper hits a home run with my two young boys. As devoted fans of her music and previous book, I Forgot My Shoes, my sons giggled with delight while reading her latest work aloud together. The words are lyrical, the illustrations vibrant and the joyful spontaneity of the content is infectious. Our entire family wholeheartedly recommends I'm Not Going to Chase the Cat Today, and urges newcomers to Ms. Harper's work to jump right in and enjoy!

After reading and thoroughly enjoying the high-spirited book, I'm Not Going to Chase the Cat Today,I began using it as part of my book list to teach English as a second language to 4 to 7 year-old children with whom I work. The book, along with its delightful and humorous illustrations, is a wonderful tool for introducing children to the joys and engery of the American language. The book has many common expressions in it, which are repeated so they can be learned not to mention reinforced by the colorful pages filled with animal and human antics. Word and phrase repetition helps children become comfortable with language - strong illustrations give language life and clarity. My young pupils clearly enjoy the book each time I use it, and ask for it over and over. It provides a story whose actions and attitudes they can understand, with a meaningful and gratifying ending. I'm sure other teachers and parents will find the strengths and delights of this book to their liking, and certainly in line with their children's tastes and emotions.

I carefully followed this book's recommendations throughout the entire application process. I applied to eleven APA accredited doctoral programs in clinical psychology and was accepted at EIGHT of them! The book's detailed suggestions were tremendously helpful and probably contributed to this remarkable outcome. However, I found it important to use other sources of information as well, since some data in the book is inaccurate. Inadequate information on how to select the "best-fit" school from among multiple offers was the book's greatest shortcoming. P.S. Don't worry about typing the application forms - just use very neat printing or handwriting. Type everything else, however.

Everything you'd want to know about grad school is all in this one source. This book includes everthing you'd want to know about applying to graduate schools (overall acceptance rates, whether an advanced degree helps, what graduate schools consider to be important). However, rather than presenting the author's advice and opinions, the information is compiled from empirical research studies which adds much credibility to the information provided. Very helpful, is also the comprehensive guide of all APA approved combined, clinical and counselling psych programs. Provided are such things as scales indicating how clinically or research oriented a program is, the theoretical orientations of the faculty, what percentage of students are accepted into APA internships, the GPA and GRE cutoffs, number of applications received and number admitted, percentage of students receiving financial aid, percentage who hold advanced degrees, percentage of women and minorities, average years to completion of the program as well as research and clinical oppurtunities available. This book is very helpful in providing you with a general idea of what programs you may want to look into further, however the information doesn't always seem to be 100% accurate, therefore you may want to investigate further rather than accept all the information as factual.

This book gave me a realistic look at what it takes to get into a Ph.D. Program in psychology and how to go about getting what I needed. I have recommended this book to many others because most books on this subject only give you statistics of different schools- how many students they accept, what the average GPA is of someone who is accepted. THis book is much more practical and step by step.

For anyone interested in clincal or counseling graduate study, this book is essential. These areas are extremely competitive and one cannot go into the process "blind." The general APA guide can be useful, but it covers many areas and mainly gives the basic facts on all programs. On the other hand, this book is very specialized. It gives information on the programs, but also includes invaluable information relevant to clinical and counseling psychology training. It has information on the programs, but also tells you how to prepare yourself, so you get in to those programs.

I am interested in clinical health psychology and this book was a great help. It has a useful index of programs by subject area. It also has a self-rating from programs about how strongly they emphasize research or clinical practice. It is essential to find schools that will provide you with the experiences you are looking for.

Overall, this book will help you find programs that suit your needs and maximize your potential for getting accepted to them!

This book was recommended by a friend when my 26 year old son was diagnosed with hemachromatosis, before I even knew my husband and I are both carriers. I ended up getting two of my sons (2 of my 3 have hemachromatosis)a copy. It relieved a lot of fears and answered a lot of questions, questions that my family doctor didn't know the answer to. It also gave us direction as to what to do and what to expect. Very easy to read, very easy to understand.

This book should be much easier to find. The information is badly needed. If it were more accessable more people would see the symtoms and perhaps get better diagnosis. All doctors need this in their offices. My gastrointerologist said he'd have to do some research on this!!! He's suppose to be the "specialist"!This has helped me understand that with proper diagnosis and treatment this disease need not be a serious problem. Well written. A must read. Many thanks to Dr. Phatak for writing this.

HH sufferers no longer have to rely on the medical profession's sometimes outdated ideas of diagnosis and treatment of HH or the sometimes questionable web info in order to get a diagnosis and proper treatment. It will answer the questions you may have and others you haven't thought of yet. If someone has suggested that HH may be a possable diagnosis of an ailment/s that you have, you owe yourself this book. It will make a great resource for your doctor also.

Finally, there is definitive information out there, instead of just people passing word of mouth warnings. This books is worth gold for people of Celtic ancestry. I was diagnosed with HHC, laughingly called the Celtic Curse because it can strike people of Scottish and Irish ancestry, there was not a lot of information out there about it. One in four people can carry the gene that causes the body to store too much iron in the deep muscle tissue, kidneys, liver and heart. It can be fatal if not caught. This book helps those find a way to live with this problem.

When I learnt I suffered from this, I had not heard of it, no one I knew had it. However, within in the last five years, many people I know are aware of a friend or family member that now has it. It often mimics many other health problems, so it's good to get early treatment and have books such as this one that help you manage your lifestyle.

This book addresses all the issues and give people a sound understanding of the problem, how to face it and how to live with it.

As I read Phillip Van Hooser's book, "It Takes More Than Guts," I felt as though Phillip had written about my struggle with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). His description of the disease is so accurate. I have suffered with ulcerative colitis, a form of IBD, for nine years. For the past two years, I have contemplated having my colon removed like Phillip did, but I have repeatedly talked myself out of it because I'm afraid of such an invasive surgery and all of the unknowns. Some of the areas that I especially liked about his book are that it takes you step-by-step from: being diagnosed with IBD, Phillip's experiences with IBD, Phillip's ultimate decision to have surgery, and finally the quality of Phillip's life after surgery. This book takes you through these steps in great detail. This book helped me make important decisions in my life concerning my battle against IBD, and I would highly recommend it to anybody suffering with this disease, or anybody who knows someone who has IBD-this book will allow you to better understand what your loved one is going through.

Van Hooser does a wonderful job of detailing the day-to-day fears, realities, and inconveniences of living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I especially appreciated how he chronicles what he is thinking as the doctors speak. The reader almost feels like a fly on the wall. Anyone that has lived with IBD can relate to all he goes through to "mask" his illness, and the embarrassment it causes.

This inspirational story of how one person copes with his disease is encouraging and uplifting. The honesty with which he presents his fears and worries is to be commended. The way in which he draws encouragement from his friends and family, but yet deals with his disease so individually, is unique. At times, I felt like I was reading about my own struggle with IBD, and it was encouraging to know that others feel the same way I have.

I read this book through in less than a day. I have given it to friends to help explain what life with IBD is like. Van Hooser says it like it is, "crap" and all!

This book was written from such a personal perspective. It took a lot of courage to be so open about how much Phil suffered during his illness. But the fact that he was so candid will be very helpful to anyone suffering with the same ilness or for that matter any chronic illness. Phil offered so much practical information as well as insight into how a patient can manage their own health care. I was especially touched by the relationships Phil established with his health care providers. What amazes me is how Phil took his experience and shared it with the world. He has reached out to other sufferers and tossed them a life line of support and a wealth of resources. I recommend this book to everyone who has ever experienced medical problems no matter what type.

Holiday after High Holiday I'm left with the same dilemma: my desire to keep kosher Sunday-Thursday conflicts with my stomach. My beliefs -kosher. My diet, uh, not so much. When I'm not walking through Robertson Blvd on a pristine Saturday afternoon my thoughts drift between my abhorrence of dietary restrictions and the guilt of not practicing my faith in full. Keeping kosher sometimes felt like being on restriction --forever! You see, food is what I love best about life. It is a small indulgence I make 3xs a day. I love to watch spices and colors blend into irresistible aromas -flavors I believed could not be replicated in a kosher kitchen. I thought I was in a no-win situation until a married couple gave me a copy of this book for encouragement. Plenty of people will get me when I say, Mrs. Cohen has given me the inspiration to see beyond the kugel...

Kosher = Compassion

The thing I like the most about this book is that it exemplifies a kosher lifestyle that is abundant with compassion.

When we live under G-d's laws of kosher we are mindful of what we eat, how we live, what we think and ultimately what we say.

We hold ourselves to a higher standard of living and are humbled by answering to a higher authority.

We are living in a more thoughtful, compassionate manner in which we are living responsibly and kindly.

While living the kosher lifestyle we are holding ourselves responsible to doing the right thing, offering ourselves to do good works of philanthropy and reaching outside of oneself.

I love the fact that Stacy Cohen spends her time helping with numerous charities. Anyone who touches the lives of Cancer children, helps children stricken by the tsunami, helps with the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa is a person who lives in a respectable manner and is truly a loving soul that we can take inspiration from.

We can all strive to accomplish the inner peace that Stacy embodies. Thank you Stacy for all that you do to make this world a better place.

I am a dog lover and a vegeterian and my wife likes meat so this book came very helpful to us that we can now have better and healthier meals in our lives. I gave this book to my wife as a gift and she said: no way, you know I love to have my meat and so I thought well it was worth a try. But one evening I caught her reading it in the living and she seemed to be so into it that she wouldn't bother with the phone ringing. She was amazed with the way Stacy Cohen was adding a vegeterian dish next to every meat option. My wife is making the Holiday dinner with the Tofu Ragu with Eggplant Timbale with fresh Pea Puree and the Braised Beef Cheeks with Salsa Verde, Horseradish and mixed Baby Greens with Crema Cantalana (with soy) for dessert. I mean it's good. Also being a dog lover and all, the values of Kosher are more compassionate to the animal so it doesn't have fear or produce adrenaline when its soul passes to the next life. Therefore carnivores are eating in a more compassionate mindful way. Thank you Stacy!

Spectacular lifestyle, FABULOUS recipes

Regardless of what comments say, the bottom line is that Stacy Cohen has elevated the stodgy, starchy, fattening, generally revolting excuse for edible that kosher food can often be, and has instead created something that every person---Jew and non-Jew alike--can serve to loved ones, guests, and at every sort of event imaginable. Sure, some of this book is pure inspiration/aspiration, but that's okay: at a time like this, we need escapism now more than ever. Remember: this is why the glitzy movies of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were so popular during the Depression----viewers needed them, and we still watch them today. Regardless of what anyone says, Mrs. Cohen has created a wonderful, usable piece of escapism---but has grounded it in delicious KOSHER recipes and menus. And no other book that I know of does that. L'CHAIM!

In the field of mental health there are so many research-based, self-help, anectdotal, and other types of books to assist therapists in improving their skills. This book is different and delightfully so as it is written in a diary-form but with warm guidance. Pipher's understanding of the healing power of therapy and how connecting with clients is essential is well-written. This book is from Pipher's role as a mentor to a blossoming therapist, but even experienced therapists will enjoy the way she conceptualizes clients' concerns. Pipher clearly sees therapy as one way to make positive changes in the world and that is inspiring to all of us who do this work.

Refreshing- Everyone effected by mental health should read!

Mary Pipher again shows her ability (gift) to combine artful writing with important information and a bright ray of hope. The writing style is casual. This book is easy to read and the messages are wonderful. An excellent way to recuperate and re-find one's healing spirits. Don't miss out on this fabulous book!

Reads like you have a guardian angel by your side.

Incredible combination of amazing intellect and powerfully compassionate heart. Wise, real & very warm. Should be compulsory reading before anybody is allowed to graduate a counselling course. Extremely satisfied with it. Try Kottler's "On being a therapist" as well. Dido " ".

Since having Martha Bartfeld's Magic Mandala book in my waiting room, I now have some patients come early for their appointments just to color in the book. I recently opened the book to find nearly all the pages colored in. Both adults and children delight in the beautiful mandalas. This book is a must for any physician's or therapist's waiting room. It is also the perfect gift for someone of any age.

this coiled book can be folded over for ease of coloring. one must use pencil crayons; not felt as it would bleed through the pix on the other side of the page. these mandalas are small and so comforting as can be completed in a short amount of time. i find i add auras and go over the lines in different depths of color as i go thru the book - i started at the beginning of the book and see my progress of colors and styles. Being coiled, it's idea for photocopying. i color this book and have another mandala coloring book i ask my friends to color a mandala for me (we color together; me with my book and the one i picked for them). we listen to tapes while we color or just chat. They date the mandala they have colored (so so i). I will cherish my friendship book 4-ever. of all the mandala coloring books i ordered, i kept this smaller one just for me. it has lots of mandalas but is smaller than an 8X11 sheet. i highly recomend this book.

"I find myself coloring your captivating designs while saying my rosary and it has developed into a meditative ritual, stirring long-ago blocked memories from my childhood. Although these memories are painful, they have miraculously offered me some insight into the bewildering images, issues and nightmares I have been living with all my life.

"I have even found the courage to talk with my younger sister about it and we ended up comparing notes. Many of these closed doors we both utilized to shut away memories of abuse at our father's hand have started to open and pour forth their secrets for her, too!

"Now we can begin the long journey of healing our hearts from these devastating events which have all but ruined our lives without our even knowing or understanding their origins.

"And, to think, it all started with your mandalas. Thank you so much for bringing us these guides to a better life and a peaceful soul."

200 Relaxing, Energizing Mandalas

This coloring book has 200 mandalas and they seem to be made for every occasion. I have found that some of them make me feel more relaxed, others more energized. I've also found that at some times I feel more drawn to specific mandalas - so if you happen to feel the same way - perhaps you'd photocpy them and then you may also feel inspired to use different colors on same designs. If you color in this book, you need to use color pencils or crayons else the color will bleed through the pages.
The author suggests to hold your left hand over the mandala for a while to absorb / align with its energy. I have found, though that whether I hold my left hand or not, I can feel the designs act in a certain way to different parts of my body (not only on my mind or emotions), some relaxing and calming, other energizing. All in all it has been a very interesting experience.

MB's Mandalas Are An Inter-Galactic Language

It's fascinating to see Martha's mandalas, and it's more fascinating to communicate with them. On day I had the urge
to know these mandalas better. Instinctively I moved my open palm back and forth over the mandala, and I felt frequencies coming up to my open palm. My hand picked up frequencies, my soul translated this message to my mind through my nervous system. I was thrilled that this could happen this way.
And this can happen to each mandala. It helps to be in an altered meditative state at first, but once one knows how to work with this language, it becomes easier. These messages
are intergalactic because of the messages they release to the person holding it and wanting to receive the message. Intent is important. Intelligent beings can understand each other through an exchange of these mandalas. This is a grand gift to planet Earth for human beings'initial communication once more to the Universe.
Thanks to Martha Bartfeld.
