I'm happy to see that this book is still being sold. It was my bible when I had my kids over 20 years ago and it's the one book I would give to any woman who is considering breastfeeding. Straightforward, realistic, full of practical tips and loaded with information. Beats any other book on breastfeeding that I've ever read. It's the reason I was able to nurse each of my three kids until they were over a year old.

I am purchasing a copy of this for my daughter-in-law,who is expecting a baby any day and is going to nurse the baby. I used this book 30 years ago for my support and information when nursing my first child and I know it will be just as relevant today. I find it fascinating that there are other women who wrote reviews praising this book from using it 30+ years ago. Not many things are as worthwhile today as in they were in the 60's and 70's. That must make this book a CLASSIC!!!!!!!Laurel Ryan, Grafton, Ohio

This is the book that kept me going.

An excellent resource that I turned to many times over the course of almost five years, for solutions to problems as well as just the pleasure of reading such an informative, thorough book. It combines the practical with the scientific. I found it when my second baby was six weeks old. To our surprise and dismay she had lost weight at her first newborn checkup and had continued to gain weight poorly. At each feeding I would nurse her, then pump, then give her a bottle, and by then it would be time to start all over again; she still gained poorly. I had an 19 month old as well, whom I had nursed successfully while working full time. All the time and emotional energy focused on my newborn's feeding could not continue. I was incredibly sad at the thought of having to stop nursing, but it seemed the only choice. I was in the bookstore just before my final decision to stop nursing, and I found this book. It changed everything. I found answers to my questions, solutions to my problems, and the motivation to keep going. I nursed as often as possible, sometimes every hour, stopped pumping, and gave just one bottle per day, around dinnertime, instead of at every feeding. My baby started gaining the way she should. I continued to nurse her for sixteen months. I have Karen Pryor to thank for turning things around. We had a third child two years later, successfully breasfed for almost 2 years. I have given this book to all first time moms along with the baby gift.

... It was read prior to my daughter's birth and constantly referred to while I nursed her.I was no longer unsure of myself due to lack of information and I recommended it to girls who were first time Moms in the hospital when I had my fourth child. My daughter had a baby three years ago with some medical problems and I met Moms and their Moms that were terribly grateful for a reference book so their baby could continue to be nursed and not believe the short interruption would ruin their desire for the baby to be a nursed baby. My daughter needed to relactate and the hospital gave them the machines to make it possible, knowing ,especially babies who have had a rough start need to be nursed even more for their health if the parent is willing to follow the instructions and there is a lot of support for mothers to nurse, knowing what we do today about breastfeeding. For "To Be" Mothers this is a wonderful gift for them to understand and decide if they are going to breastfeed, and to stand up to the bullies who usually have weird reasons why they oppose breast feeding. Instead of being intimidated, you will wonder which category they come from, and you will be a much stronger , confident mother. Mrs Symmington

The most useful breastfeeding book I found

I had a copy of the womanly art of breastfeeding and found it to be long on preaching the joys of breastfeeding and short on addressing real concerns and problems! This is the book I dogeared and referred to again and again. It is practical, friendly, and full of useful information I didn't find anywhere else. There is a long bibliography of sources at the back, but you also get the sense that you are being talked to by experienced realistic moms who are sure you can do this - much more helpful when you feel desperate at 2 AM in the first week than another lecture on how wonderful and easy this is supposed to be!

I nursed my first baby until he was 18 months old, after a very rocky start - took me three days to get him to nurse at all, and then it took 45 minutes to latch him on properly for a while after that! So I really appreciated any guide that admitted how hard it can be to start breastfeeding and gave a wide variety of practical advice on the real problems. I tossed a lot of popular books that carried on about how breastfeeding is easy and natural and wonderful - it was all that once we got over the hard part, but getting over the hard part was when I needed good advice and real facts!

Some of the unusual information included here - baby behavior, innate parent behavior, nursing frequency and patterns, how nursing changes as the baby develops, how to take good care of yourself physically and emotionally. There is a great chapter for working/pumping mothers, and even some advice on how to keep the house tidy enough so it doesn't depress you, with a minimum of effort. Also - getting your milk back when you had to stop nursing for a little while, nursing toddlers, tandem nursing, weaning, pretty much any breastfeeding topic you can think of seems to be covered.

The index is not great (you can't find 'thrush' or 'pain' in it, even though there is a section on yeast infections), but I read the whole book and didn't have much trouble finding what I needed in it after that. Several chapters deal with age specific information ('birth to six weeks' etc) which made it easy to look up problems I was having in that particular time period.

The One Command takes you where other books and teachings on the Law of Attraction do not tread. Asara Lovejoy has discovered and shares in a clear, concise, step-by-step way, exactly how to bridge the divide between wishing and manifesting - at a speed I did not think possible.

I am absolutely amazed at the simplicity in applying the teachings of The One Command in daily life. More amazing were the positive results that begin to quickly materialize in almost every aspect of my life - personal and professional.

As a business analyst, I measure success by results. I was delighted to discover that The One Command delivers! It is definitely a "must read" if you are serious about learning to generate abundance in all aspects of your life.

Word to the wise - keep an extra copy of The One Command on hand. My experience has been that friends and family will borrow this book and never return it!

This is an amzaing manuscript. By leading the reader through the key discoveries in modern molecular oncology , Weinberg is able to elucidate the hallmarks of carginogenesis in simple, yet comprehensive ways.
This is a must read for any doctoral student. However, Weinberg simple and entertaining language will be enjoyed by anybody who has an interest in the pathways that lead to cancer.

History of cancer theories for the layperson

Here's a book that I would recommend to those people interested in learning a bit about the beginnings of cancer. In One Renegade Cell, Robert Weinberg has written an informative narrative on the history of cancer and molecular biology research, focusing on the theories and evidence behind the early days of this field: the 1970's and 80's.

Weinberg's focus is on what he knows best: the mechanisms that promote and regulate the proliferation of normal and malignant cells. And for that, his explanations are the best out there. These explanations take up the first half of the book, corresponds to the early events in the development of a tumor, and makes up a coherent story. For example, he covers oncogenes, tumor suppressors, apoptosis, and to a lesser extent DNA repair, in relatively easy-to-follow language.

In the second half of the book, Weinberg refers to other aspects of cancer progression, more reflective of the later stages of cancer - angiogenesis, immune evasion and metastasis. He essentially provides the highlight reel for these aspects of cancer, and I felt that the transitions to such topics could have used some work. But that's okay in my opinion, because Weinberg comes right out and says it on the cover - this book is specifically about *the beginning* of cancer, first and foremost.

Weinberg also avoids using overwhelmingly long lists of references that are typical of more scientific writing, as well as skipping over the many highly-technical details that are involved in actually conducting such research, making it more accessible to non-experts. Indeed, he defines every term in a way that probably only requires a minimal background in biology to understand.

Must have: great intro and overview of current research

No prior knowledge of cell biology or genetics is required. I have gained an appreciation for the complexity of cancer research thanks to the book. I highly recommend it. You also learn a fair amount of the history of the development of cancer research. And don't think you need to read through hundreds of introductory pages to accomplish this. The book is under 200 pages.

Once again: What I found great about the book is it explains very clearly the current thories on how cancer starts and spreads without requiring any prior knowledge in the field.

For the scientifically oriented who are interested in the details, it has a big reference and endnote section. 5 stars for sure.

Valuable information!

Extremely informative, written in interesting form like a scientific novel, a systematic mini-survey of the molecular biology of cancer. Takes you through 30 years of discovery, explaining how false expectations were replaced by the discovery in laboratories of right pathways. Among the useful pieces of information you'll pick up: cancer cells are not destroyed by chemo and radiation, only some DNA damage occurs. Unless the p53 gene is little enough damaged, then the tumor is not stopped, and Weinberg explains why. He fully describes the 6 mutations that are required, over time, to produce a metastasizing tumor. My wish: that Weinberg would next write a book about cancer treatments.

I end with an aside for those who are in love with the red herring called "holism", and imagine that "reductionism" is dead and of little or no use in the elucidation of complexity. The entire field of genetic and cancer discoveries, all of microbiology, is nothing but plain ol' reductionism applied to very long molecules, molecules so long and often disordered in shape that new techniques of chemical analysis had to be invented (like PCR). This book and any standard text on molecular biology provides full evidence for the truth of my assertion.

Excelent entry to cancer biology

There are very few books out that give the reader an overview modern cancer biology. This short book gives a clear picture of a complex and current subject. It uses historical perspective on scientific discovery to enliven the reading. It's well organized and readable without background in biology, but with enough depth to interest biologists in other fields. I also reccomend Robert Weinberg's "Genes and the Biology of Cancer", written with Harold Varmus, which covers the same material in a little more depth.

The Awesome Power of Affirmations Revealed
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-23
Patricia J Crane, has created the best guide on how to achieve any goal using affirmations that I have ever seen.

Patricia has a rare and unique talent of taking abstract ideas and bringing them down to earth so that anyone can use them to get what they want. She illustrates her techniques in clear terms...leaving you with no room for doubt.

As you already know, and most probably heard at some point in your life, that what we feed our minds becomes our reality. We can convince ourselves practically anything with enough verbal repletion of affirmations.

However how many of us actually act upon this? How many of us use this awesome power? And even when we do use this powerful technique, are we using it correctly?

For example if you want to quit your job because you can't stand it anymore, you should not say "I want to quit my job", because that is focusing on the negative. Rather you should state. "I look forward to successfully securing myself a position at another firm, in a job that I love!"

Also another powerful idea that is often overlooked that you got to be patient. As Wayne Dyer teaches: "Infinite patience produces immediate results."

The bottom line is, we can submit any of our heart deepest desires to our Cosmic Chef ("our higher power") and He will process and answer all of our requests.

If you are unhappy with your life (which means your are producing negative results) its because at some level you are feeding this order into the cosmic chef. If your fear of not achieving your goal is greater and your faith of achieving it, then the winner will be the stronger emotion. It's that simple.

I really enjoyed this book and my only complaint is that it is too short. The author provides several affirmations and a framework for developing your own personal affirmations based upon what you want to accomplish. I finished the book 2 weeks ago and haven't had any earth shattering experiences, but I have felt a higher sense of well-being. Although the book can be finished quickly, it's format is such that you can pick it up later and find something useful. I wrote some of the affirmations on 3x5 cards that I use as bookmarks, just to remind me to stay positive.

This book was great for me; it gave me information that I didn't find in other places. However, I can not say that it is impartial; it tries to correct for the widespread misinformation. It might be a good introduction to the material for some but definitely not for all, because of its bias. It can definitely help you choose what is best for your child as an individual, but it can not serve as your only source in making that choice (unless you are sold on not vaccinating at all). It simply doesn't have enough details about the actual ingredients to weigh the risks with the benefits; the author seems to conclude that none of the vaccines are worth the risks. As someone who has chosen to selectively vaccinate my children, I did find the book helpful. The first source I use is Dr. Sears' The Vaccine Book because it has factual information about the ingredients. This book is the second source I use for a little more information on the issue. I don't think this book really lives up to its subtitle "practical medical and natural ways to protect your child." Also, I agree with some other criticisms about her use of language. From an editorial standpoint, this book is not a final copy. It is only a revision or two away, but it is not properly polished. Quite a shame. I am still grateful I have this source.

There is nothing really new in this book. Eating well, exercising and relaxing is good for your health. Duh!

But it is very well presented, brings up enough (but not too many) testimonials to be inspiring, it is simply written without complicated theories. The diet is easy to do and presented with lots of details. The proposed exercises are varied - very much along the lines of "do what works for you and do it at least 3 times a week". The Skilled Relaxation is nothing new if you are already familiar with the work of Benson, Cade, Pelletier, Kabatt-Zin, but it is presented here in a non-scholar way that is easy to understand, easy to implement and the book provides the health motivation to keep doing it. Understanding skilled relaxation without actually doing it twice a day is worthless. The text in this book makes you want to do it and to keep doing it.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is sick and hopeless - or anyone who wants to implement good life habits and prevent illness. I like the fact that it does not promise an instant cure for anything but rather proposes a way of living that supports physical, emotional and mental health. Well done!

The weakest point maybe is that it addresses general well being but only mentions in a rather weak way that people with long term diseases may have to be much more specific to completely heal. The proposed diet may not work for everyone, some people may need specific types of exercises and to avoid others, some types of meditation or biofeedback processes may be better than others for some conditions, etc.

However as an adjunct, Dr Stoll bulletin Board [..]) is filled with more specific information and the good doctor is also available to answer questions. A very generous proposition.

Ok - Got to go now and practice my skilled relaxation...

Recapture Your Health

Recapture Your Health outlines a balanced solution to improving overall health. The authors call this program a 3LS solution named after the three legged stool which is perfectly balanced and fully functional without a lot of extras that aren't needed.

Like the three legged stool, the 3LS program contains three simple but sturdy elements (nutrition, exercise, and relaxation) that create a foundation for improved health. The nutrition section focuses primarily on minimizing damage caused by the high intake of refined foods in the modern diet. The authors promote a whole foods approach to nutrition that reduces and potentially eliminates all refined foods. This is very similar to the slow food philosophy that is gaining popularity.

Likewise, the exercise and relaxation portions of this program are not radical but are somewhat based in good common sense. Participants are expected to exercise twenty minutes three times a week of virtually any type of activity that gets them moving. Relaxation is guided through various types of formal relaxation exercises such as meditation or guided imagery completed for approximately twenty minutes twice a day.

While conventional medicine tends to focus on covering up symptoms with medications, many of which cause dangerous side-effects, this book provides step-by-step instructions on how to potentially avoid the doctor's office altogether. Based on the premise of 'how to be healthy,' this book outlines what Dr. Stoll refers to as the '3-Legged Stool of Wellness' - Skilled Relaxation, A Whole Foods Diet, and Exercise. As simple as this sounds, there are many crucial aspects that one needs to be aware of in order to implement the Wellness lifestyle effectively. 'Recapture Your Health' provides all the knowledge, insight, frequently asked questions, and troubleshooting guides needed for anyone to do just what the title says. Jan DeCourtney's writing style makes this book both fun and motivational to read cover to cover as well as easy to use as a quick-reference using the detailed index in the back. Hats off to this book, a long-awaited tribute to a very important aspect of Walt Stoll's life's work of getting the truth about Wellness out to the public!

Walt Stoll and Jan DeCourtney have given readers a chance to redeem their health or maintain it using three simple tools. Seemingly so simple, yet the authors have used their talents to give a good explanation of some of the who's, what's, and why's of the road back to health.

Even if you think you know the information to wellness they present, "Recapture Your Health" is still a great reference to have linking many common and not so common ailments to the modern day interpretation of stress. Many of us have used one of their key elements at one time or another, but in putting all the pieces of the puzzle together you have a great weapon to use in the war against disease.

If you have not yet had to deal with a serious illness or condition, you can certainly can go a long way to prevent it, according to the book, and maintain quality your quality of life for the years to come.

"Recapture Your Health" focuses on relaxation, nutrition and exercise. This is the basis for the entire program so you can maintain optimal health. Not only does this show a way to a healthier lifestyle, it promises relief from a wide variety of chronic health conditions. Whether you are already suffering from a condition or want to take a more preventive approach, this book has many pertinent answers. The authors teach a more holistic approach and also explain the roots of illness.

What is the real cause of illness?
How can you reduce depression, anger and anxiety?
Is there a natural solution for chronic fatigue?

Throughout the book, personal examples are shown as people who followed this program explain how their symptoms disappeared. Some of the main things the authors recommend is the elimination of sugars, alcohol and caffeine. In order to follow the program there is also a handy list of foods you should include or avoid. If you enjoy reading labels, there is also a section about additives.

After following this program you can expect better sleep, happier moods and less headaches. As the authors say: "...most people lose health because of an unhealthy lifestyle." This book puts you on a fast track with a special section called "quick start guides." This allows you to get started even before you have read a third of the book.

The authors present a discussion about supplements, encourage healthy lifestyle changes and give lists of exercises like Pilates, Yoga and Walking. I also though their list of helpful ways to reduce stress was very helpful.

All I can say about this book is it was enthralling to read! It was unfortunate that it had to leave my shelf to go to Iraq, but while I had it, there was no way I could put it down.

Mr. Canning's description of working EMS holds true for other parts of the country.

I began reading this book while working my own shift (EMT-I, not a paramedic unfortunately) and as soon as a call came in I didn't want the put the book down and go! (but I did, of coarse!) Canning is able to maintain intensity in his stories throughout the entire book. This is a good chance for current and aspiring EMS personnel to get an idea of the wide range of calls medics receive

Excellent views from the inside of EMS. Heartfelt emotions and calls that are true to life keep this work very real.

There are two types of people who will want to read this book: those who like adventure and those who want to see if EMS is for them. Peter Canning is a real-life paramedic in Hartford,
Connecticut, who once worked as a speech writer for former Governor Lowell Weicker. Both of Canning's books are full to bursting with real-life adventure. EMS crews in Hartford have little down time as they go from heart attack patient to auto wreck to infant not breathing to drug overdose. Canning takes his readers along through adventure after adventure at a dizzying pace.

At the same time, Canning shows some of the toll that EMS work takes on the people who do it. In his first book, Canning makes the job switch to EMS. His progression is the usual one from someone who is thrilled with the excitement of the work to someone who wants to earn the respect of his peers to someone who realizes that it's the patient that counts. In _Rescue 471_ Canning has become a well experienced paramedic.

But there are still struggles. Canning works his way through the times when EMS made the transition from a health need to a business dealing in medicine. His smaller EMS company is bought out by a larger one. There are new regulations promulgated by unknown faces. There's the worry about pay and jobs though one of Canning's friends reminds him that EMS companies still need "meat on the seat." Canning also works his way through the worker burnout caused by the long hours of work and dealing with stressful situations. One night Canning just doesn't care anymore. As he drives home, he speeds through the red traffic signals and arrives at his home breathless. I have to commend him for admitting how close he came to losing it.

EMS work in my part of the country is different yet so much alike. The hours are long. A shift is 24 hours on and 48 hours off. The pay is lousy. The only way that the guys make a living is by going from one shift to the next. One medic once told me he had not been home for 11 days. That was after he told me he was trying to leave EMS for nursing. Most of the smaller EMS companies in this area are now gone. Larger companies have taken over the rural areas and even some of the larger cities. This has lead to a demand for medics with techs being told that they need not apply for a job. So two years of schooling (some less, some more) is required to get a job in EMS. And I know of some areas where the EMS guys are getting burnout in about three years. Oh, and did I say the pay is lousy?

To medic or not to medic. Canning worked his way through his burnout. And me? I still have my National EMS Registration and am proud of it.

Having competed in the prestigious Sabaki Challenge on three separate occasions, I was very intrigued to finally obtain a copy of Kancho Ninomiya's book, "Sabaki Method." Imagine my surprise to see a picture of me competing in 1994 against an opponent from Japan (you can see the picture on page 39).

I found this book to be very well done and loaded with valuable information. Although the scope of this book is large and therefore it's not possible to spend a lot of time on any one particular technique, the author does a fantastic job at providing you with very valuable information in a limited amount of space. The photographs and illustrations are top-notch and the detailed information that accompanies them to be nothing short of fantastic. Here is an example of some of the techniques, in this case kicks, that are demonstrated in this book.

Roundhouse Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 9)
Side Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 10)
Back Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 1)
Hook Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 7)
Axe Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 3)
Front Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 6)

I personally found the strategy and principles to be very sound and, in my opinion, the best part of the book. Another stellar section in this book is the training and practice methods that the author demonstrates quite well towards the back of the book. I particularly liked the section dealing with the heavy bag.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone involved not only in the "hard" styles of Karate, but any martial art be it Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, etc. There is something to be learned by everyone in this book.

On the roots of Kyokushin and Ashihara Karate, there is an excellent book of Kancho Joko Ninomiya.
Over 2000 photos and diagrams. Every full contact Karate fighter will learn a lot from that book.

Required reading for my private students. This book mirrors in words, photo's and highly illustrated drawings, one of the first things I learned when sparring: move around and outside an incoming attack. This book then shows how to best utilize this movement. I got the book back in 2002 and am still trying to drill some of these techniques into my repertoire. The book does an excellent job of displaying the basic punching and kicking mechanics and then moves into intermediate and advanced tactics and techniques. Then the book shows how to use this method for a very effective self-defense. The section of breaking ice with the hands and one (or more!) baseball bats with the shin was fascinating. I just wish they had gone into a little bit more on the conditioning to make these breaks.

Even if you are not going to engage in full-contact sparring, the tactics and techniques are easily adapted for self-defense, point sparring, etc.

This book is one of the best you can find out there on Knockdown Full-Contact Karate. Very complete and with good explanations. The only lack you can find is some of the photos are a bit too small.
Really good.

Circular motion is used in virtually all combat disciplines and sports. Wrestling, Judo, Boxing, Basketball, Ice Skating, Football etc. all utilize circular motion. Any athlete and or martial arts practitioner will tell you that circular motion is useful for a number of situations. The focus of this book is on Karate or more specifically a style of Karate called "Enshin". The premise behind Enshin Karate is that a smaller fighter can overcome a larger and stronger fighter by using his strength and momentum against him. One uses the opponent's momentum by utilizing circular motion to move out of the way of the attack, move to the opponent's blind spot and then counter. If one uses his imagination, the techniques are virtually limitless. One must keep in mind however that the techniques in this book are Enshin Karate techniques which means everything done is under that system's rules.

In most styles of Karate, you aren't allowed to grab but Enshin allows one-handed grabbing in order to generate more leverage from your opponent and to use circular motion better. The techniques of Enshin Karate are indeed beautiful, but most of these techniques are incompatible with other styles of Karate because of the no grabbing rules. So what works for Enshin Karate fighting will not work for Taekwondo, Kyokushin or point fighting. The idea of circular motion however is good to keep in mind for any martial artist especially when you are going against a larger opponent.

This is a MUST HAVE for counselors and victims of ritual abuse. The most comprehensive book on the market. Just about every subject is addressed by Ms. Oksana. It is easy to understand, and yet an experienced therapist would learn something. It is a book that I would take out again and again to reference a specific subject.

A Safe Passage to Healing is by far one of the best books written on this deeply painful and often overwhelming subject. I'd highly recommend it to survivors of ritual abuse and those who love them. This book is full of helpful chapters that will gently enlighten and provide some sense of comfort to the reader.

Chrystine Oksana has a deep sense of compassion and understanding when discussing some of the most difficult experiences ritual abuse survivors overcame. She's structured her book in easy to read short chapters providing short breaks in the author's narrative for those who may be upset by reading this material. Chrystine also gives the reader trigger warnings ahead of time when difficult subject matter is approaching.

Overall it's a very easy read and survivors and those who love them will walk away with a greater understanding of ritual abuse and a deeper sense of compassion for those who successfully endured it. This is one of the best books I've read and I'd recommend it to my survivor friends.

SRA does exist! I would have never dreamed this up. It is very disturbing when the flashbacks start, but it makes complete sense now. This book really saved my life. I love the way the author begins - by helping us not to feel crazy. It is a great suppliment to my own therapy and doesn't contradict the progress that I am making. This is a incredible book for therapists too giving them insight. Although there is not much out there regarding SRA, you wouldn't want any other book than this one. It doesn't go into stories. I have my own. It is a practical guide full of information that I need now. The author is a survivor of SRA and she also uses statements of advice from other SRA survivors. The concepts she discusses are to-the-point and extremely clear. The book is not filled with excessive wordiness and someone else's stories that tend to bog me down when I just need answers immediately. The chapters are short and organized well. The author stated that the reader could skip around and did not need to go through each chapter if not needed. However, I would recommend reading and learning even if you think you know about the subject. Looking at the index, the author covers every aspect of SRA. She is very careful not to point fingers at any group or religious sect. This is a great book that immediatley started making me feel better about myself. The author takes a sensitive approach. Her style is positve, uplifting and hopeful. I learned to trust in myself which is the most important skill I needed to learn about myself. In just a few minutes, I learned about the direction I needed to go and things I needed to stop doing. I know I will use this book as a guide for many years. Please understand, SRA is real and not dreamed up. If you have had SRA experiences or know someone who has had, please get this book and begin the healing.

I have read many books for survivors of abuse, but nothing compares to this book. It's like my guide, my bible. I refer to it often, especially when I need reminders that I am not bad, that it will not always hurt so much, and I will get better. I am a SRA survivor and would recommend this book for those that have been ritually abused as well as therapists, family members and anyone wanting to learn more about ritual abuse, or help survivors as they work on their issues. It is helpful for survivors and their loved ones that are just starting to remember and face the reality of their childhood, as well as for individuals that have been in therapy awhile. For me, it reminds me of The courage to Heal book, but more specific for those who have been abused ritually, in cults, and those who developed Dissociative Identity Disorder (formally Multiple Personality Disorder) in order to cope and survive such horrendous abuse.
I will always keep this book, and refer to it as often as I need. The book offers hope to those who have been abused in any kind of ritual abuse, and for the people that care about them.

I've recently had the opportunity to read "The Senior Solution" by Valerie Van Booven-Whitsell, RN, BSN, PGCM. This book looks at the issues faced by seniors and their adult children, it covers all aspects of challenges that seniors face and gives clear, concise workable answers to them. This is a book whose cost is a worthwhile investment for seniors and their families as well as the advisors that work in the senior marketplace.

Having seen four of my family members, including both sets of parents and in-law parents who have needed special care and attention during periods of aging, disability and dying, I had to learn by trial and error. Unfortunately, many times it was by error.

Valerie has clearly and concisely covered a very difficult subject in a very easy to read, relatively short book. She is to be commended for including such areas as VA Home Aid and Attendant Services Grants. I had never heard about them before. She also establishes reverse mortgages as a viable way of handling financial needs for seniors aged 62 and over. At the end of the book is a very comprehensive reference guide to several outstanding websites.

All in all, this book is outstanding....especially as more and more people are aging and joining the "sandwich generation"!
