Beauty Books

Hearne has provided Beauty and the Beast fans and teachers with two valuable resources. Her first book, Beauty and the Beast : Visions and Revisions of an Old Tale, discusses the history and various versions of the tale. This book, Beauties and Beasts, is a collection of tales that are related to the well-known Beauty and the Beast tale. The tales come from various cultures and periods in history. Hearne provides short discussions of the tales, but mostly allows them to speak for themselves. The stories are suitable for all ages so the book will work well in the classroom, library or at home. The book emphasizes humanity's similarities and differences across time and space by presenting a small collection of its folklore.

Covers skin, exfoliation, body toning and detoxification, liposuction, cellulite, breast treatments (with GREAT before and after-augmentation photos!), neck and chin, pigmentation, age spots, dermabrasion, scar removal or reduction, herbal wraps, chemical peels, varicose veins, spider-vein removal, hands/arms/feet, and a whole chapter on spas and mineral springs.

As this book teaches: "It is no coincidence that a healthy body is a beautiful one."

This book is a must read for any one considering having plastic surgery to improve droopy eyelids. The before and after pictures are great and the text itself provides indispensible information for the any question from pre surgical preparation to recovery time. Most importantly, I learned that there are surgeons, trained as ophthalmologists that preform only eyelid surgery.

The elbow test draws you into the book. I like that the authors makes a statement that they are not trying to push anything "that haven't been thoroughly tested" p12. This book talks about everything i.e. anti-aging creams, exfoliation, scar prevention for nicks and cuts, and skin cancer. There are topics for men too which is rare in topics discussing skin. Additionally, on p76 Parabens is mentioned in regards to reading the labels, but I was unclear of the authors' opinion if it is good for your face or not. I just noticed that more and more products are purposely mentioning "parabens-free" on their labels. This book was copyrighted in 2007 and IMO that it is a missed opportunity that parabens was mentioned briefly in this book.

Overall, it has been a year since I read he book and I used a few ideas which has changed the way my skin feels since the first time I took the elbow test.

Beautifully performed and recorded....hard to start without listening to whe whole album.....also hard to classify - elctronica, trance, pop?

This is one of the best books of its type on the market. It is very complete. I reccommend just two books to be your entire library of personal care, and they are: This book, and Horst Rechelbacher's AVEDA Rituals. You will love them both; give this book a try!

This book is one of my favorites so far. Delacroix recounts the classic story "Beauty & the Beast", setting it in Scotland. Both characters went through ordeals in their young lives but fate brought them together.

The story is about Jacqueline DeCrevy who has given up the possibility of marriage, for she knows men only want to possess her for her beauty. Jacqueline decides to become a bride of god, but on the way to the covenent, she is snatched from her saddle by a handsome knight. This Crusader is Angus MacGillivray, a scarred tall, dark and handsome man with a vengeful passion. Jacqueline is to be his ransom. Angus believes her father is responsible for the murder of his family and the seizure of his home. Jacqueline is a defiant captive, and soon realizes that beneath Angus' hard exterior is a yearning for love and a life in peace. Can she break through the armor that shelters his heart?
Beautiful not only on the outside, but on the inside, Jacqueline embodies conviction, class and spunk--worthwhile qualities of a heroine in any age. Angus' character, although at first selfish and focused on revenge, reveals enough heart on the inside to heal the scars on the outside. Perhaps if he can love Jacqueline for what inside her, she will see past the hardened man that Angus portrays and they will enjoy the most beautiful thing of all--love.

I recommend this book to any female reader who loves Scottish knights.

Not all female fans of fantasy art would find Achilleos' work to be empowering, as most of his female subjects are portrayed passively, sometimes even in bondage. But even with their passivity, they are definitely eyecatching ! The centerpiece is absolutely wonderful, giving a whole new concept behind what REALLY occurred between Eve & the Serpent. The main theme of Beauty & the Beast centers mostly on the concept of heroism through the ages, and how we view the Hero archetype in our own modern society. Although the book is older, published in 1978, the artwork fits right in with more contemporary fantasy artwork, and is a worthy piece to have in any artbook collection.
