This is a great little book that will make you smile, with smart simple instructions to the "simple pleasures." My favorate is How to sleep in, illistrating how to "Beat innocent clock into submission." If you know anyone in your life who needs to de-stress or just laugh, this book is perfect! It is a regular on my coffee table.

This book was a catalog of clothing sold back in the 80's during the "Indiana Jones" rage. The store's owners were journalists who found clothes that would travel, and then romanticized the clothing in drawings and stories. Part of the fun is discovering these clothes in thrift stores today.

Book was informative and enlightening. I learned a lot about techniques I should consider to save and restore my skin. It was well written and easy to understand for a lay person such as myself. I would recommend it to anyone interested in this topic.

Beautifeye is a great resource for anyone who wants to easily understand all the newest procedures for the eyes and face. This book outlines cosmetic procedures including peels, micordermabrasion and Botox and surgeries such as brow lifts and correction of droopy eyelids. It is very helpful that each procedure clearly lists the results and complications. The before and after photos display the actual results that may be achieved from different procedures, which is useful for visualizing how these changes may look on my face. There's no hype here, just concise info, as opposed to most fashion and beauty magazines, which always confuse and overwhelm me when they write about these sorts of things. I would recommend this to anyone who's seriously considering a cosmetic and/or surgical procedure.

In this work by Nancy Bruno, I found delicate tales of true life, and pictures of intense beauty. No, not the kind that is plastered all over the television, or printed in magazines, but the beauty that life brings; the hidden beauty that we all need to see, and appreciate.
Inside the pages of this book, we are graced to read life experiences from 35-women. The strength, courage, accomplishments of each is the true beauty that shines. The black and white pictures add the visual that completes and satisfies the perfection of this beauty. A reminder of truth for all. Beautiful Women, celebrates the true essence of the pure beauty of women, and brings it forth for all to appreciate and enjoy. A lovely work.

It also gives you step-by-step instructions on having great, healthy skin and makeup that works for you. And the best chapter is "Fashion Workshop". "BeautifulYou," helped me to decide what haircut would look best on me. I liked that it told me how to keep my hair, skin and me healthy. Instead of telling me what to do, it gave me quizzes to figure out what my best colors are. I did the other quizzes to, but I liked that one the best. I would highly recommend this book, and I will be looking for more books by Lori Stacy.

This book is a lovely retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I collect fairy tales and happened across this one several years ago. It is told in the first person. The writing is absolutely sure-handed and the characterization is beautiful. I have read most of the author's other books but none of them come close to the heights of storytelling she reaches in this novel. It drew me in from page one, and I was overcome with a rush of disappointment when I reached the end because there was no more.
This is also a great read-aloud book. It is too bad that it is out of print because I often loan my copy to friends. Fortunately all of them (so far) have returned it - with great praise. Everyone who is a lover of fairy tales should give this one a try.

Beauty is a wonderfully solid reworking of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, with a strong, intelligent (and independent!) heroine, a charmingly gruff Beast, a fun plot and a crew of hilarious-but-believable -- supporting characters.
The tale is told in first-person by Beauty herself, who was originally called Honor. As a child, she wrinkles her nose at being named after a high virtue, and is subsequently stuck with a prettier, more materialistic nickname -- which she comes to regret as she gets older and wiser. She notes, wryly, that her appearance doesn't quite live up to it.
This is where we get to the first of many changes McKinley has made to the tale -- and for the better. Beauty comes from a healthy family, with sisters who are as charming, steady, and upright as their originals were not, and their father is just the sort of man who will go on a long trek to bring each of his daughters that which she likes best. When disaster strikes, he feels worse over the fact that he is forced to return almost empty-handed, than he does at the fact that he is financially ruined.
Of course, Beauty must leave them -- this much of the story stays the same, naturally -- and the bulk of her story takes place at the Beast's enchanted, and haunted, castle. Her meeting with the Beast is spectacular, as is the evolution of their relationship, occuring so naturally and seamlessly that you can't help but fall in love with the two yourself, as they fall in love with each other. The castle servants, here turned into invisible 'helping hands' are chatty, hilariously pushy characters.
All in all a great read. One of the books I am proud to own!

A REAL-LIFE FAIRY TALE
Like her very own knight in shining armor, rancher Joe Crawford emerged from the mist to rescue Anna Pointer from a desperate situation. Widowed and raising two children alone, Anna could not refuse Joe's offer of assistance, though she was determined to ignore her attraction for the wealthy bachelor.
A man of few words, Joe had always kept to himself. But Anna claimed to see beyond his beastly demeanor, giving this solitary man hope that a happily ever after was within his grasp... if only he dared to risk all that he was and become the prince this beauty believed him to be.

Joe Crawford has a face only a mother could love. Fortunately, beautiful widow Anna Pointer is a mother with two young children who need a father. Anna is a fighter who won't ask anyone for anything, but when Joe rescues her from two attackers, she can't help notice the kind and loving man. A man who is wonderful to her children and gives her thrills that her late husband never even attempted. Still, when Joe starts talking marriage, Anna knows he is crazy. He may love her children, but he's never mentioned the 'L' word about her.
Best-selling author Judy Christenberry loves fairy tale romances and BEAUTY & THE BEASTLY RANCHER is a classic fairy tale. Perhaps love will tame this beast, but neither Anna nor Joe is willing to open their hearts--and their marriage seems doomed to crumble when it faces a crisis--as it must. Rich and successful Joe might not be cover-model material, but he's tall and strong and a cowboy--plenty to build a fantasy on.
Christenberry uses secondary characters--Joe's mother, sisters-in-law, and especially Anna's daughter, as matchmakers, driving the relationship forward and giving the reader assurance that the two really are meant for one another--once they dare to trust.

I've loved the story of Beauty and the Beast all my life, and of the 30+ versions that I own, this is one of the best. While it is less traditional in style than others, the prose is incomparably beautiful and includes details, and a pivotal exchange between the title characters, that bring home the oldest moral of this story: beauty comes from within.

This is by far the best book on the subject of 'Beauty and the Beast' ever written. Betsy Hearne takes an insightful look at the fairy tale and its many versions throughout the centuries. Unfortunately its time span is only from the 1700's to the early 1980's, thus excluding any discussion of the Ron Koslow television series or the 1991 Disney animated film. But even with this, the book is well worth several readings if you are at all interested in studying this 'tale as old as time.'

I found this book serveral years ago, and bought it becuae, well, I love Beauty and the Beast (with the possible exception of the Disney verson....) and this was reccomended as one of the better basic resources. It was originally writen as a thesis , so basically it's all that research available without the bother of looking it up yourself. She discusses the shift of the story from the folktales to the novels and other adaptations of today. Unfortunately it was written BEFORE Disney, but I found a review she did of the movie later. It was pretty funny. It has a copy of one of the oldest printed versions (Mme Le Prince du Beaumont) and a transcription of a French folk version as resources at the end. (I wish I could read French.)

As a teacher, I am surrounded by children and for that reason, among many others, I have chosen to retain a childlike personality as an adult. The book, Balance, makes me laugh each time I thumb through it, and I've read it through probably a hundred times already.
Things from "how to make a blanket fort" to "how to tickle" (Figure 1 - Wait for maximum vulnerability. Figure 2 - Go in for the kill. Figure 3 - Scram.) are retold with such a flair for the English language, in addition to the wonderfully animated figure drawings, that people from 5 to 105 have to smile. It recaptures so much of what gets lost as we grow older, and so much of what so many people want to rediscover in themselves. There is a kid in all of us, a childlike anticipation for FUN, and this book helps those who think they've lost that kid, find that innocence (or mischieveousness).
It is a wonderful gift for nearly anyone, and makes an even better gift for yourself. It helps you remember the wonderful things from youth - adventures, pleasures and simple things like flying kites. It is a precious treasure of smiles for any grown-up kid. It is one of my most cherished possessions. I hope you like it, as well.
