What a funny book this is. Never thought people would write a whole book on discovering the fashion style through astrology. But in this book Greg Polkosnik has made a real study on sun signs and fashion and it got a very detailed study with astonishing accurate interpretations. For every sign the author gives hints & tips to dress by. His fashion advice is not the only thing you will find in this book. In fact he goes further than entertaining the reader !

I have always been interested in CHIC and in fashion. This book put 2 of my FAV things together in one book. Even if you never read much about Astrology, you would love this book!

I love this book! As a Pisces I was never really sure if I had any style at all. Now I know that not having a particular style is my style. After reading my chapter of Cosmically Chic I wanted to get a new hairstyle, buy a new wardrobe, and then run down the street shouting "Look at me! Look at me!". I read all the other chapters, too, and believe me, I'll never look at the way people dress the same way again. I'll never look at astrology the same way again, either. Not only did learn a lot about all of the zodiac signs, but I also was thoroughly entertained by this book. I'm buying several copies to give away to all of my terribly dressed girlfriends. If astrology can't help them, nothing will!

Surely, truth, beauty and goodness lie within the soul of Jayson Duffy. His book, Crossing Silver Creek, revealing episodes in his life, is beautifully written but far too short. His readers will hunger for more.

Unlike the popular, saccharine Chicken Soup series, Duffy writes narratives that not only touch the true nature of humaness but also incorporate great literary style. This look at life is sometimes uplifting and sometimes sad but always well written.

You will not be disappointed with this book. It will allow you to connect with another human being and learn more about yourself.

Crossing Silver Creek consists of 20 narratives, in addition to a foreword, that put a positive spin on personal experiences--at times when the positive isn't as likely to find. Topics range from trout fishing in Northeast Iowa to coping with loss. Duffy's lyrical writing includes a variety of literary techniques that make his storytelling naturally compelling. The author is candid with his personal experiences from boyhood to adulthood. As the reader, there were moments when I felt as if I had shared the same experiences and made the same discoveries. Read this--you'll enjoy it.

This a delightful book. David Muench's ability to use light and contrast to capture the varied landscapes of Arizona is unsurpassed. He truly has a gift.

This is a wonderful coffee table book packed with a wide variety of spectacular photos of Arizona. It is a stunning display of the tremendous variety found in Arizona's natural habitat. Muench focuses on different aspects of the landscape including light, form, life and ecology. Captions tell where the photograph was taken with some brief commentary. A short essay by the photographer leads off each section with some of his personal thoughts and insights.

You will find an awesome view looking up through the trees to the sky, and the beautiful azure color of the Colorado River contrasting against white and rust colored rocks. Views of waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, autumn leaves and desert sands will take your breath away. Natural rock formations and cactus plants are seen in a new light as they become elegant sculptures. Endless, brilliant blue skies are captured against fields, mountains and red rock formations. Close-up of photos vibrant pink cactus flowers and sunny yellow poppies will brighten your day. You also get an occasional glimpse of lush green trees and plants.

As with all of Muench's books this one is printed on quality glossy paper with the highest of production values doing justice to the photography. As a Muench fan this is a treasured addition to my library.

This is a great little gift that will make a big impression and have long standing value for the kids in your life!

Any little girl who likes Disney princesses, will love these books. Little Golden Books are always a hit with my children, and these little books are just the same. Cute books for bedtime stories.

Sure, this book, written in 1959, is a bit dated - then again, would you really expect a book subtitled What to Wear for Every Occasion to stay in style for over 40 years? If Edith Head could see what people wear today, well...she'd surely be reeling in shock. Her advice, after all, comes from a different generation, a more formal era in fashion.
But fashion tips are really only a small part of the pleasures of this book. What makes it such fun to read is the inimitable style and personality of Edith Head, dressmaker to the stars. She was a true character and thank goodness she lets some of that eccentric genius shine in this book as she discusses her clients, such stars as: Dorothy Lamour...Madeleine Carroll...Mary Martin...Betty Hutton...Veronica Lake...Giner Rogers...Charles Laughton...and more.
The section entitled What to Wear on Every Occasion is both funny and enlightening to read as Edith Head had clear-cut opinions on the Dos and Don'ts of fashion, even advising women what to wear to such diverse events as Prize Fights, Dog Shows and Garden Parties. Don't pass up a chance to grab a copy of this one!

The story of Edith Head, Hollywood's first major fashion designer for Paramount Studios, is both informative and entertaining. The role she played in shaping not only Hollywood's elite, but everyday women, in modern day apparel as well as individual attitude still applies 50 years later. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy reading of someone who became someone she never intended to be, and yet enjoy and convey enthusiasm throughout her career to all she encountered.

Edith goes into great detail over her trials and tribulations (as well as successes) while working as the Chief Costum Designer at Paramount Pictures and later Universal. Information about Edith's personal life during this time is kept to an extreme minimum, which is unfortunate, but certainly helps to perpetuate the enigmatic personality she worked so hard to create for herself.

Nice and informative book goes into the depths of black fashion. This book is full of stories and nice photos. After reading this book I have questioned myself - is black a history? This book doesn't give you the answer, but we all know, that red is modern black and that's why PPUPPY couture is red.

On my first visit to London, I happened into the Victoria and Albert Museum and saw my first costume exhibition: CECIL BEATON'S ANTHOLOGY OF FASHION. It changed my life. This book will change yours. The photography is fantastic and the text is informative as well as entertaining. This book is almost as wonderful as seeing these dresses in person. . .almost!

No "well heeled" coffee table should be without this little number...also makes an elegant gift. Gorgeoous photos of the black dress spanning the 1900's, lovingly compiled.. Anyone who loves fashion will appreciate this book. A "MUST HAVE" for STYLE BUFFS!

Xmas gift that I finally read. I read it all weekend, what a hoot. This guy is funny. I want to find more of his stuff. Apparently he wrote a tv show, thta would be wild to see.

Take a blender, the kind with variable speeds, throw in Gogol, Sedaris, Garcia Marquez, Nichols and Lynch, add a masterful lexicon and a unfaltering fondness for some humans. The result is a great book of short stories about people who you will never meet. But have no doubt, they are real, strange but real. Either that or Mr Twa is a truly talented writer who has created a universe of hugely diverse and complex characters who he allows you to meet at critical junctures in their lives, or so they think, I think.

I picked Mr. Twa's book up because I found the cover compelling. I had no idea what I was getting into. This writer is brilliant, moreover, he is hilarious. I can not remember laughing (outloud) so hard and so often while reading a book. It's a collection of short stories, each running just long enough to keep you wanting more...and more. The only regret I have is that there is no more--this is apparently his first work. But I need a fix soon. I highly recommend this escape from the mountains of predictable fiction out there today.

As as jewelry designer, I am continuously researching the history of design. In building a library of references I have been very selective in my acquisitions for inspiration and research. This book is a wonderful history of design with exceptional photographs and bibliography. The section at the back with biographical annotations of designers of note is as precious, for me, as the photos and text of the book. I highly recommend this one!

This book was recommended to me by my antique jewelry dealer. It is a treasure-trove of historical information with fabulous pictures and descriptions. Whether you are a collector or simply an admirer, you will not be disappointed in this well-researched book.

I have a 1975 well worn, but still readable, edition of this book - my mother used it for my brother and I. When I had my first child she passed the book to me - it's been a source of inspiration for me and various friends! It's incredibly easy to use, understand and do. If you can cut paper, paint circles and ovals, and glue - you can make these costumes!

Had this book 20+ years ago(ordered thru local school - Scholastic Book Co.) and made several costumes for my children at Halloween time. They always won first place. Positively the best book for easily made inexpensive costume that look like a professional made them.

I have done plays and Halloween costumes using this book. Lots of ideas using stuff you have at home.

Presnets to the reader various images of black women and not only those with lighter skin or eurpopean features. Provides excellent information on hair care (relaxed, natural, locks), skin care and nutrition. The pictures are stunning and show the beauty of black skin. The advise and recommendations are excellent. Great book also to show to little black girls so that they can also learn how to take care of their skin. Enjoy!

I didn't purchase this book for its beauty tips and secrets. I love having it on my coffee table for visiting family and friends to look at. Its a joy watching their facial expressions as they look at the beautiful pictures. They only have admiring comments to share.

This book is incredible with the information and helpful tips they provide for maintaining healthy hair and caring for your skin, etc. I love Essence Magazine and I was not dissappointed at all in this book!!
