I just wanted to leave a bit of review here for my mom (the author). Hopefully she'll see this someday and know that despite what she has viewed as shortcomings, she has always been an inspiration not only to others but to her family and all those closest to her. I've had my own difficulties and was raised amidst many of hers. With a great deal owed to her example and support, I was able to carve a path from high school drop-out to acceptance at a prestigious university for the fall. You have been and continue to be an amazing mom and I love you!

If you haven't yet read this book, you are missing out on an experience everyone deserves to have. If you guys loved her debut work as much as I did, please keep an eye out for her upcoming titles. They're on the way!

Straightforward advice from the heart

The author tells her story about how she succeeded in her dreams and kept pushing herself further. She definitely makes the point that she was not a super woman along the way; she made plenty of mistakes. The author always seemed to have a clear sense about who she was and what she wanted. Her personal stories added a great deal about her advice. Her stories happened to her and she was simply not repeating stories of friends or patients. From who she was, to who became is an inspiring story. How the basics like writing letters helped her network. How she wanted to blast salsa music in her suburban neighborhood. Through the toughest times, the author maintained a strong sense of self.

One page--even one idea--can be worth the cover price

I've just begun reading this, after picking it up and seeing answers to some of my own dilemmas in its pages. She says things with finality, and I don't always agree with her. For example, I like to think that, someday, I WILL drive a Jaguar. But, that said, when she talks about letting go of things that haven't worked in the past, and moving forward to a better future filled with achievable goals... this is a very good book for people who are depressed or otherwise feeling "stuck" in life. If you don't actually buy a copy yourself, ask your library to order it.

I am not an avid reader. I tend to read more newpapers, professional journals. When I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I finished this book in one night. A record for me.

This book is uplifting, inspiring and true!!! I felt motivation I haven't felt in a long time since I read this book.

This is a very inspiring book. When I initially started reading, it felt like just another feel good book with general advice. However as I progressed it picked up and became quite interesting. The advice given by the author is not new or unique, but offered in the context of her own life experiences, become very useful.
One shortcoming of this book, as for many books of this nature, is that it seems to address primarily a younger audience. What about the readers who are now in their mid-forties, early fifties and have less time to start over and be effective? Understandably the author is in her thirties, hence this shortcoming. Nevertheless, I wish I had a book like this available to me when I was in my twenties, because the ideas offered are inspiring and most valuable.

Primer for men to understand the inner beauty of women

As a happily married male, Dr. Booth's book definitely brought out an unrealized and needed renewal as well as a greater appreciation of the total woman. Of course, I am referring to both the inner and outer beauty.

It was an easy read for someone like me without a medical degree and the vivid testimonials/stories that she shares with the reader keep things light and humorous as well as heartfelt and even a little sad. The scientific/clinical information paired throughout with the true patient cases not only draw you in, but almost makes it challenging to stop reading.

This is definitely something any man who is in a married or dating relationship with a woman should take the time to read if he truly wants to understand his spouse/girlfriend better and to be sensitive to her emotional and physicial cycles.

Best of luck and continued success to Dr. Booth. Hopefully she will write a follow-up in the near future.

Dr. Booth is my gynecologist. She told me that she has been working on the research and writing of this book for a very long time. She wanted to help women understand what is going on with their bodies throughtout the decades. The book is excellent and I recommend it for any age. I plan to buy and give copies to several of my friends from ages 20-60. Thank you Dr. Booth.

Finally it's all written down!

Dr. Booth delivered my 2nd son 5 1/2 years ago, so I've been getting the information laid down in this book from brief encounters as her patient. I was thrilled and not so terribly surprised when I found that she had published.

A wonderful read. A must read. I wish I had this when I was a teen instead of just now in my late 30s.

The Venus Week is an incredibly liberating read. No longer do I feel a victim to my hormones. I always knew I had this group of days - I call my skinny days - where everything just seems to click. I actually look forward to changes in my cycle because I now know what is coming and why. What a refreshing way to think about the shifts in mood - they actually have a purpose. I have begun to use Dr. Booth's diet and supplement tips as well and I feel like they make a difference. Now I have a great excuse to indulge in my bit of dark chocolate in the evenings - to give me a little boost of Venus! Kudos to this doctor - who is focusing on wellness - not just disease.

This book combines elements from good humor, a memoir, a scenic travelogue, a touching love story, science fiction and philosophy.

Whether you ever wondered about meaning of it all, or you want to read something light amusing, or want to see places like Seattle, San Diego, and Nashville from the eyes of the writer, or vicariously live the life of a
student at University of California, this book is for you!

The author, purportedly an Artificial Imagination computer program simulating a life/career journey through the Hi Tech and yet very scenic world of California and Washington (Settle) is witty still though down to earth and funny! The book is written in a very conversational style, as if you are reading a letter from a close friend!!

Good book, nice clean humor, makes you crack up!

Great book, love it! It's hilarious! I could not stop giggling, I cracked up page after page. Really Nice!

And so many nice photographs. I felt I was traveling with the author, no, I was him, feeling his ambitions, his surprise, excitement and pain. And what a brave soul! He (yes, despite its claims to have been written by an AI program, this book is written by a loving, feeling, breathing human for sure!)--He is able to maintain his sense of humor even as he moves from one place to another, faces one set back after another! He always comes back!

Wow! What a story!!

Great book, transcends genres to combine humor, photo-travelogue, a moving love story, memoirs, philosophy and a touch of Sci-Fi

Review Date: 2008-06-15
This book transcends genres -- it's a good collection of memoirs, entertaining style, nice splash of humor, an extremely detailed travelogue with beautiful photographs, a good description of technology, a touch of Science Fiction (since it is purportedly written by a Artificial Imagination program) and suffused with philosophical musing and last but not the least, a moving love story.

Even though it's obviously written by a Technologist, the book is very human. It is primarily about the immigrant experience, but Kalpanik is extremely observant and has an eye to look for the unusual, notice what stands out and build humorous side of people, places and his own life.

Wonderful! I am specially moved by his bitter-sweet love story at the beginning.

Very engaging, light and entertaining!

I loved this book! I read it in two days(and I'm a slow-reader)! I thought it was great, but somehow I don't like what happens to Anna and Ben. They weren't together while he was with Blythe, his mistake was not to tell her in the first place... but we'll see what happens to them in the next book! But it doesn't come out until April... we will have to wait a long time, but I hope it's worth it!!

So... Cammie and Sam try to find out whether her father really killed her mother, Anna thinks something is wrong with Ben and happens to be absolutely right, and Jack and Dee have a great relationship... or so it seems.

The only reason I gave it four stars was because it seemed kind of... I don't know... lacking. I usually have fun seeing what kind of reckless stuff the people do but this book didn't really have much in the wild and reckless department. It was kind of serious, more serious than the others.

Zoey Keeps It Going!

Zoey Dean keeps her story of the A- list going in American Beauty. In this book, the seniors on the A-list are graduating and that means hanging out with friends, and going to parties. Anna is in a car crash and her dad sends his new intern Caine to come help her. Anna becomes good friends with Caine. Also things with Ben aren't doing that well, and they get into a fight at a party. Cammie tries to find out more about her moms death and Sam helps her by meeting up with her mom from North Carolina. Sam finally gets Eduardo back and they agree never to kiss anyone again, other than those two. Everyone goes to a girl from another school, Stefanie, and they set her up to get revenge, for what she said about Sam in the past. In the end they graduate and Anna chooses to hang out with Caine instead of Ben. Zoey really keeps her readers interested in this series.

The A-list, the guiltiest of guilty pleasures!!

Review Date: 2006-10-16
I have read the A-list from the beginning and there is one main reason why it became one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Two Words: Sam Sharpe. This is my favorite character, I just love they way she developed, her approach to things, her cynicism that hides a very emotionally troubled young woman. She is the less cliched of all the four main characters (Anna...classy, prim and proper Hampton girl, yawn..., Cammie the uberbitch always on the verge of redeeming herself and Dee the real LosAngelino character, with all her ingenuity, incense sticks and sojourns in the loony bin). These stories, developments and characters are totally unreal, but hey people, this is FICTION! And meant to be FUN! The characters won't cover their heads in ashes, donate their money to the poor and join Mother Teresa's nuns...It is so exaggerated that it is fascinating for a European like yours truly...

Only CAVEAT: I would actually NOT recommend this book to teens, because many of them could mistake it for reality, or set their goals way over the top.

Roberta Wilson has created a very useful, friendly, fun book. I have several books on aromatherapy and essential oils, and this is the one I refer to the most often. Ms. Wilson has included a reference section, which provides the folklore & herbal heritage, medicinal uses, emotional effects, primary actions, and cautions of each oil. There are many recipies to try and follow, along with suggestions for creating my own formulas, as well as ways to use the blends, such as in a diffuser, straight from the mixture bottle, etc. A resource guide, recommended reading, and bibliography are in the back of the book. I have other books on aromatherapy, but this one is the cornerstone of my collection, and the one I use most often.

Review Date: 2007-01-10
This is a charming book on aromatherapy, written in a conversational style. You can imagine sitting with a friend in a tea-shop where she is telling you how this or that essential oil helped so and so with such and such a problem. This makes book very easy to read and the stories make it easy to remember what essential oil may be helpful for treating particular issue. While the focus of the book is on essential oils which are helpful for issues related to women such as pms, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, it covers many issue related to both sexes, such as weight loss, skin care, hair care, sexually transmitted diseases and general ailments like headache, stomachache, infections, etc.

At the end of the book there are about 16 pages with recipes related to issues mentioned previously in the book. This is a rather small book, perhaps more geared toward newcomers to aromatherapy, though the anecdotal stories make it for an informative and fun reading for anyone.

I just love this book

This book is great! Not only does she provide and excellent source of information for beginners, but she also conveys her passion for aromatherapy through her writings, and her total faith in the use of essential oils for healing the body, and the soul. Deals alot with issues for women and children. She also provides a long list of companies that sell quality oils, and even schools in the U.S. and U.K. where you can receive education in the field. Overall her passion for the oils and knowledge of their uses can give alot of confidence to the beginner. I do have one caution though, because she lives in the U.K., some of the words she uses for different maladies are different from the ones used in the U.S. So if you don't know what it is she's talking about, make sure you ask or look it up.

An aromtherapy must have!

This book should be a staple to any aromatherapy library. I always refer to this book first whenever there is problem. I also give this book to my sisters and friends when they get pregnant. It is a great starter reference that helps from early pregnancy through high school and beyond. I started using this book when I was single, and I have actually used some of the various blends on my pets. Basically, if you are a woman, know a woman, know children, know animals, or are even a cloistered monk, this book is a great start.

A wonderful guide... but not always to aromatherapy

This was one of my very first aromatherapy books, because it is relatively inexpensive, and likewise relatively small and non-threatening. It has more the feel of a friendly guide than some obscure textbook. I still use it on a very regular basis, even though I've also added a number of more advanced books to my repertoire.

It is, on the whole, indeed very useful for women (and can be for men as well, of course!) It covers a wide range of women's-interest subjects, from home and body care, to pregnancy and infants ailments. The information for men is not as prevalent (as indicated in the title, of course) but many things that apply to women apply to men as well.

Most of the information is very thorough, but it can sometimes be hard to get to the 'meat' of what you are looking for. It is written in a very 'friendly', anecdotal style, which although easier reading than more 'technical' books, can make it difficult to find the key things you are looking for. The recommended essential oils are always in bold text, however, so that does at least partially negate this problem.

Another issue I had with it was the fact that some of the subjects she speaks about, there is NO essential oil information at all. This would not trouble me nearly as much, except for the fact that part of the title of the book is 'Guide to Essential Oils'. It is still good information, but if there is no essential oil information, I don't feel it belongs in an essential oil guide.

Despite these problems, however, I would definitely recommend it for any aromatherapy/essential oil library.

Love of the Beautiful; God; and the Passing of John O'Donohue
Helpful Votes: 20 out of 21 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-25
I discovered John O'Donohue this past year (see my review "Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom") and have been working ever since to bring him to San Francisco's East Bay to speak and conduct a retreat. Unfortunately, as I was putting pen to paper to write my review of "The Invisible Embrace - Beauty," I learned he died in his sleep, January 3, 2008, on vacation near Avignon. He was just 53. O'Donohue was an original thinker, a gifted writer, and a philosopher that fully understood the human condition and emphasized the triumphal power of divine love.

"Beauty" outlines another encounter with the divine. The majesty of beauty is its gracious wholesomeness. The Beautiful unifies feeling, thought, and dream. The book "endeavors to mirror this one-ment." This acquaintance coaxes the soul to the land of wonder where the journey becomes a bright path between source and horizon, awakening and surrender.

O'Donohue begins "Beauty" with the the call of beauty; where it dwells; its music; its color; and the joy of its shapes. He then explores imagination (beauty's entrance), attraction (the eros of beauty), and the beauty of the flaw. He concludes with beauty's relationship to death and God.

"When we lose sight of beauty our struggle becomes tired and functional. When we expect and engage the Beautiful, a new fluency is set free within us and between us. The heart becomes rekindled and our lives brighten with unexpected courage."

The "cry of our times" is to awaken beauty as we feel most alive in the presence of beauty for it meets the needs of our soul. And once awakened, there is a great sense of homecoming as beauty is God. Love of the beautiful is a secret and sacred passion of all as it is embedded in our search for God.

O'Donohue has written another "Beautiful" book that will serve as a reference guide for years to come.

For those who want to learn more about John O'Donohue and his literary contribution, I have included a number internet posts made on the event of his death:

* I too was touched so deeply by John O'Donohue - by his writings which my wife shared with me a few years ago.
* I'm very saddened by the passing of John O' Donohue. Though I never had the privilege of meeting him I felt I knew him through his work. He was truly a beacon of light and love. God bless him on his eternal journey.
* I am so saddened by John O'Donohue's passing. For over eleven years I have absorbed his books which have made me understand and appreciate my Celtic-Catholic roots. Slan agus beannacht leat.
* He was a breath of fresh air and sunshine enfolding wonderful wit and wisdom with a passion for the Eternal.
* When I read Anam Chara, I was stunned by how much I was moved by his words and ideas. It was at once comforting and thought provoking. I am so very grateful that John shared himself with the world.
* John constantly called us to awaken to the great mystery of which we are apart and to become more and more aware of the intimacy we share with all...I am deeply grateful to him for the way in which he affirmed the deep longing with the past, present and future. May we honour him by living our own individual lives as authentically as he lived his.
* I have often turned to his writing and recordings for solace and guidance through some difficult times in the last few years and had hoped to go on retreat with him in Connamara this May.
* When I heard the news of O'Donohue's death, I cried. His books, especially "Anam Cara" and "Eternal Echoes," were personal favorites. His knowledge of Gaelic and rural Ireland, combined with his philosophical training, gave his writings a special beauty. His poetic perception and spiritual wisdom made his writings a wonder of insightfulness.
* John O'Donohue's brilliant and beautiful wordcraft has touched my heart and helped bring about great peace and growth in my life over the last decade. May his legacy of beauty and courage reach far into the future and bless many generations to come.
* He brings, and will continue to spread through his writings, a timely, universally spiritual message of interconnectedness and common humanity to a troubled world.
* His Anam Cara Celtic Wisdom returned me to that world within that opens us to the universe.

The very sad news is that there will be no more books by John O'Donohue because of his untimely death in January. The blessing is that we have a treasury of wisdom and elegance in his published writings and various recordings. We can still listen to his Irish lilt and laugh at his humor; we can still read his prose and poetry suffused with wisdom and caring. Beauty is a book which reminds us how we should look at the world around us, expectantly looking for signs of beauty to counter the other signs of neglect, pain, violence, dis-harmony. He takes us beneath the surface, urging us to troll the depths of our souls to find our beauty. Every sentence will call you to ponder more deeply and invite you to look anew at life.

As a long time fan of Mr. Goedde, I looked forward to his new book, and WOW!
If you were a fan of his stuff before, this book will blow you AWAY!

It is amazing that he does all this work only with availiable lighting. He is a true genius and look forward to more of his work.

I Love This Book!

The Beauty of Fetish Vol.2 takes Fetish Photography to a new level. The photos have an intimate quality, but unlike allot of photographers Steve isn't afraid to show humor in his photographs as well as beauty. I love this book!

Beautifully stunning as always with this artist

I have been a fan of Mr. Goedde's work for sometime. I purchased this book almost as soon as it came out. I am a photographer, which can hope that one day I may be close to being as good as him. The work is inspiring and you never know what is coming out of those pages. He truly has an ability to capture the best in people and situations. I wish there were more photographers that were artistic as Steve is. Art is interpreted in many different ways, but a lot of times when I look at his work, even in this book, I feel like it is a dream. Some of the photographs to me are a dark dream. There is nothing bad or scary to the photographs, just a bit of darkness with a hint of light. I personally love it. Since, I too take a lot of pictures of people; I love the scenarios they are placed in for the shot. You can see the serious and the quirky side to him and it makes you feel that you are seeing him through is work, on a personal level. I think that this is a real collector item for anyone that is interested in photography that is more on the artistic side. I give this book 5 stars!

An exceptionally exquistite book that combines both colour and black and white on such beautifully glossy pages. Steve's images always have a habit of sticking in my brain, continually exciting me wherever I go and dream. Very stylish and intelligent and not the typical "in your face" imagery that everyone else seems to do. Like they say, he is a master of powerful yet subtle eroticism. Both of his books will stay on my shelves and in my mind for many years to come.

i've never seen anyone capture the eroticism of fetish-wear the way steve goedde does. if you already have the first beauty of fetish collection, you MUST buy volume 2. he has grown artistically. this is needed in your photography book collection.

it's true! it's possible to create real art in los angeles. here's the proof.

Mike has been my personal trainer for about a year but I have just recently bought his book. I love it. It is full of great information not just on how to exercise but what is happening to you physically during the process. Although I workout the same amount, I feel my workouts are more efficient and do not seem like a chore because I know what is going on. It also includes information on nutrition, not dieting but eating healthy. I would highly recommend this book to women of all ages and sizes who want to be their best physically.

Better Bodies for Beauties is very motivating and fun. I really enjoyed the real life examples combined with the sarcastic humour. I also caught myself smiling a few times when I identified myself with the woman in the story.

Michael Fifrick's book is written for a wide range of audiences. A woman who has never exercised before can read it and get a lot of great information about how she can start changing her body. Someone, like myself, who exercises on a regular basis can also learn a lot about misconceptions, the fact that even trainers are sometimes wrong, about nutrition, and how other factors, like rest or breathing, are really important, as well.

Better Bodies for Beauties encourages fitness and health. It makes working out fun without trying to push the woman to the extreme. It promotes a healthy body not a super buff or a super thin one. It really helps women feel better about themselves and it guides them step by step in achiving their goals.

The book that makes eating and exercise pure pleasure!

As a registered professional nurse, much of what I have been taught in school about fitness and nutrition has been unsuccessful in maintaining a healthy, fit body. It was not until I read Mike's book "Better Bodies for Beauties" that I realized how crucially important cardiovascular exercise is in maintaining proper health and fitness. Cardio is also critical in developing a tight and toned body that looks good in a swimsuit. Proper nutrition or even a diet alone cannot create the shape that the woman of today would like to possess. It takes a combination of nutritional changes as well as good exercise habits to achieve this goal. Mike's book taught me that I have to make some permanent lifestyle changes. Reading "Better Bodies for Beauties" changed the direction of my life forever. Thanks for your candor, although it seemed harsh at times, your brutal honesty with a touch of humor is the element that made this book so remarkable. This should be required reading in every woman's education. You make it seem as though every woman whether she is short, tall, thin, fat, or overly muscular, has the potential to be beautiful both inside and out. With the right attitude, dedication, and now guidance from your book, women can have the beautiful body that they have always dreamed of having.

Change your fitness life forever by reading "Better Bodies for Beauties," the book that makes eating and exercise pure pleasure.

I was impressed with the breadth and comprehensiveness of Fifrick's book, Better Bodies for Beauties. As a former NCAA track and field athlete that has been actively involved in over 5 sports for nearly 15 years, I am always skeptical about getting-in-shape advice offered in many book, magazines, and even on TV. But Mike pleasantly suprised me. I found his exercise advice to be sound and helpful for everyone from the beginner to the professional. In my experience, nutritional advice is not always offered as readily as one may think. Mike's book really broke down the basics. This book is a great starting point for any fitness plan. Definately a must read!

I enjoyed "Better Bodies for Beauties" because it is to the point and easy to understand. Fifrick's lean weight chart has been the most helpful concept to me along with his advice on weightlifting for overmuscled women. As a result, I have been able to simplify my workouts. I don't feel like I have to push myself so hard, and the results have been very exciting for me. My appetite has even lessened.

I have also found that Fifrick's book simplifies some of the other health and fitness authors that I have been reading. In "Better Bodies for Beauties," Fifrick agrees with other experts who teach that excessive protein consumption is not good for your body because, in excess, protein turns into fat, and as a main source of fuel for your body, it does not burn cleanly and can be difficult for your liver to digest. Reading "Better Bodies for Beauties," I discovered that carbohydrates are good for me, and like many other women, I had always believed that carbs were bad for me. I get full much easier now that I eat more carbs than protein, and I actually feel much better.

Fifrick's book is interesting, educational, and motivational, and I like his sense of humor, too. I highly recommend it.

I've been considering plastic for a while now, and Dr. Linder's book was a great help. It contained wonderfull insight of what to expect at the doctors office, and what can be achieved after the surgery. The note section was a good idea, for jotting down quick notes.

It is about time that someone like Dr. Stuart Linder wrote a book that discusses what to look for in a doctor before considering plastic surgery. It seems like nowadays, everyone with a medical license can perform plastic surgery, with horrific results. This book lets you know the ins and outs of plastic surgery, without the sugar coating!! It is in-depth and honest!! I am considering plastic surgery myself, and after reading this book, I think I will travel to Beverly Hills to meet with and consult with Dr. Linder!!!!
