We love how Bently Boyd brings history to life in a fun, creative and easy reading style. After my son is finished reading he can't wait to share what he read with the entire family. We have acquired the entire set of Chester Comix with Content Series and love them all. These make a GREAT gift for anyone of any age or even for teachers as they are an awesome learning tool. Many of us live our lives without knowledge of what goes on around us. Truly I was unaware of the struggle to save California's old growth redwood forest until my son, David Nathan Chain died in that war. It is often referred to as the "Timber Wars". We all just assume that our magnificent old redwoods are protected. Many of us also assume that people with corporate power will make good decisions for the welfare of our communities. We live in a time that mandates our interest in what is takes place in our country. If we don't, what will we leave our children?
This book was a complex story to tell. It is documented history of actual events where the human side is exposed for it's good and it's bad. Pat Beach has my utmost respect for telling it from all sides and making it a brilliant piece of journalism.

I cannot say enough about this book. Mr. Love takes what at first glance might look like an arcane public policy subject and injects humor and infectious enthusiasm into the telling of the story. The battle for the soul of the Oregon coastline has run hot and cold over the years but has always been interesting.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in land use issues; I promise your eyes will never glaze over.

This is a very different kind of travel book--and it happens to be one we enjoyed immensely on a week-long trip to eastern Oregon. Instead of a straight listing of sights to see, the author has selected her favorite areas and they come with plenty of recommended things to do and places to stay. It's rather like having a chance to sit down and ask a well-known travel writer to give the inside scoop on the very best locations. We hiked the high Wallowas and drove through Leslie Gulch, discovering fascinating places we never knew existed. We found this book to be inspiring and well-researched. The author has obviously spent time in these locations and this is a refreshing change from ordinary travel books that simply offer a list of attractions without help in putting together a vacation that is filled with a variety of great adventures.

This book is perfect for anyone interested in gardens in the northwest. It not only provides a complete guide with directions to each of the many gardens, but it also provides a review of the gardens and what you will find during each season. A perfect gift for a green thumb, this book will assist you in your touring of all of the northwest's finest gardens.

This is an absolutely excellent book for the area it covers, but the title is misleading. It purports to cover the entire Northwest, when in fact it only covers a few counties in Oregon and Washington west of the Cascade Mountains. I'll keep the book because one of the counties covered is where I was born, and I'm already fairly familiar with the plants there, but I was looking for a book that would cover the whole Pacific Northwest, so I'm pretty disappointed. If I'd known before I bought it that the coverage was so limited, I wouldn't have bought it. Still, I gave it five stars, because for the area it covers (Lane County, Oregon, to just north of Seattle) it is probably the best book you can buy.
