As someone who has been involved with inclusion for many years, as both a parent and a professional, I am always pulling together information from many different resources. This book has brought together many of the issues that need to be addressed when working towards creating a truly inclusive environment. The examples throughout the book illustrate just how these practices can and should be implemented. I highly recommend it!

Roseberry-McKibbin has once again provided the clinical professional with a insightful and practical resource supported by evidence-based practices. This book can be used as well in the university classroom to prepare classroom teachers, school psychologists, and administrators as well as speech language pathologists for the reality of children in our schools today. This guide is also a great resource for the researcher, not only as a source for information, but also as a source for direction for future lines of investigation.

I was very impressed with this book. The information in the text is very specific and includes plenty of examples. An excellent reference for special education teachers. Includes information on the various components of writing, how to teach them, how to assess them, and how to provide intervention in trouble areas.

A wealth of information
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-25
I'm a former public school music teacher and private piano instructor, now teaching at 2 colleges. This semester, for the first time, I have 2 piano students who are dyslexic, one severely and the other slightly. This book provides a wealth of helpful information on the scientific background of dyslexia, its potential impacts on musical learning, and strategies for helping dyslexics be successful in this area. It is well-written, easy to understand, and encouraging. Its suggestions would be also helpful for music teachers in general. The author's thought-provoking question is, "If they can't learn the way you teach, can you teach the way they learn?" This book shows the way to do that; I highly recommend it!

Grandmother of another invincible Spirit

I started to read the book and was in tears for the 1st couple of chapters. I am the proud grandmother of a Special little boy with Downs called Daniel. He is a gift and the whole family are humbled at being chosen to share his life.

After reading the book for a while I suddenly had one of those ahah moments when I realised I had seen this family so often on my drips between Durban and Johannesburg. I often see a lovely Downs boy and his mother with the missing lower part of her arm - I peep out of the corner of my eye and marvel at how the young boy makes sure that the bags are collected and put on the trolley at the airport.

I hope I can pluck up the courage next time I bump into them and say hello - I know that we always prefer when people come over and chat to us rather than just give us odd looks.

We are very proud of Daniel and will encourage him to do all he wants to do in life. He is only 18 months but is doing so well and we marvel at his every achievement.

Thanks for your Book Mrs Wickens and thanks for sharing your private moments and thoughts - They really do help it all make sense

His drawings are his words!

This is a well done book! It gives an insight into what Jonathan is thinking or feeling at times, where words would leave anyone's midsts. Jonathan is a member of our community here in upstate New York and we are more than proud of him - he is the spokesperson for all the other children who are as affected by autism as he is. Jon's mom, Caren, is often the one parents turn to when they don't know who else to call. She and Jonathan are the pioneers in this area when it comes to dealing with the issues of autism. When Jonathan first started drawing, it was literally an view for the first time in what he was feeling, and I am proud to say that I was invited into his world through his drawings. Thank you Jonathan!
