Since being hurt by others is part of the human experience, anyone can benefit from the insights provided in this wonderful book. Dr. Affinito's step-by-step guidance in navigating and ultimately surmounting emotional pain and anger is invaluable, not just for those who've been deeply hurt and have difficulty getting beyond it, but also for friends and family who wish to help but don't know how. This must-read gem isn't about turning the other cheek in any conventional sense; it's about healing the self. The reader who follows Dr. Affinito's concrete illumination of the path to forgiveness can expect to emerge with emotional equanimity and "personal power and truth." Truly a powerful and important work from a very gifted psychologist and therapist.

Priceless Guide for Receiving Clear Divine Council
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-16
HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD is a trustworthy guide for those seeking to get clear, precise guidance from Divine Source. Shumsky succeeds brilliantly in providing readers with a coherent, well-structured and immensely practical guide for establishing direct communication with God... in a way that comes with no strings attached. As Shumsky states, "You will not be required to convert to a religion, join a cult, venerate a guru, empty your bank account, or sacrifice your firstborn child." The key to hearing the voice of God is to ask, Shumsky explains, and the entire premise of this book is "Ask, and it shall be given you." After setting forth this remarkably simple and direct intention, you can now embark on one of the most remarkable times of growth, healing, and enlightenment imaginable. Shumsky takes great care in sharing the wealth of wisdom she has accummulated after decades of working and studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental Meditation.

While some spiritual meditation books tend to direct readers toward their particular spiritual orientation, I was pleasantly surprised and then increasingly impressed with the way HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD respects your own unique relationship with God. Shumsky describes in detail how the mind distorts God's message, and how we can work to clear our mental filters in such a way that we are not so easily deceived.

I love the way HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD provides ten tests of spiritual discernment, which help to ensure that you really are talking with God, and not some lesser spiritual entity. Instructions for what to do in the event any of these ten tests fail allow you to reconnect with Spirit. Once you have completely read the book, you can then play the companion meditation CD which is packaged in the inside back cover of this paperback book. The meditation CD allows readers to more easily make the transition from simply reading a book to taking the first steps to open dialogue with God.

I highly recommend HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD for anyone who is genuinely interested in opening a two-way dialogue with God for feeling greatly expanded sense of divine love, free from judgment and guilt, with healing comfort and genuine divine revelation of an intensely relevant, practical, inspirational and uplifting feeling.

An accompanying meditation cd reinforces the message in HOW TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD, a guide to developing inner guidance and making wise decisions using devotion and guidance. From the basics of meditation and releasing blockages that prevent hearing the divine voice inside to learning to tell the difference between divine and other voices, this is a key acquisition for any spiritual library.

A fascinating, intimate study of American and European literary figures: poets Marianne Moore, Elizabeth Bishop, novelists Djuna Barnes and Bryher and the famous literary salon of Mrs. Murray Crane in New York City by a young man who was privileged to have these women as close friends.

What a rich account of lives of great American poets and cultural icons. Elizabeth Bishop and Marianne Moore in their own milieu and Djuna Barnes, hitherto thought of as unapproachable, are all revealed as very human, even warm, friends of the author. Fascinating!

Great Personal Planning Resource

Review Date: 2004-12-05
What a find! I have been looking for a resource on strategic personal planning for awhile now on and found this book while searching for something else. Coaching is based on the use of powerful questions and this book is loaded with them.

The book is well written and easy to read. My first read through took just under 24 hours in three sittings. Aside from the focus on personal planning, one of the added benefits of this book is the supportive material on values and visioning included by Dr. Dahl. The book provides a solid foundation for the personal strategic planning process. The worksheets at the end of each chapter are by themselves, worth the price of the book.

Potential readers should not view the One Page Strategic Plan as being simplistic. If done according to Dr. Dahl's instructions, the planning process will require some effort and a whole lot of thought. Now that I have read it through once, it is time to reread it, this time completing the worksheets!

It's often been said that one must first "get one's own house in order." This book is an amazing tool for analyzing oneself from the inner core of basic values and self image and worth. It leads one through the process of taking charge of one's life, determining short and long term goals and setting a course for attaining them. Well worth the investment of time and money. Life changing.

Christine Page is one of the wisest and clearest teachers about ways in which we can transform ourselves, and just what that process looks like, and feels like, in our own lives. Drawing on myth, magic, inspiration and esoteric sciences, she constantly takes the material and anchors it in regular human experience.
This is not like literature, this is a manual for personal growth. I have read and reread it in the brief weeks it has been in my hands. There are certainly thousands of writers who can point to, and identify sources of wisdom. With Page, you know she has traveled every inch of the metaphysical map.
This work builds upon her prior writings regarding the use of the intuition, incorporating the role of sacred sites, sacred architecture, numerology and astrology, just to name a few - in cultivating the soul's expression. Truly a must-read for people who want to get real about their own transformation.

100 Questions & Answers About Life After Cancer: A Survivor's Guide (100 Questions & Answers About)

Well-being after cancer - an excellent resource
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-17
Page Tolbert and Penny Damaskos are licensed clinical social workers who counsel cancer patients and cancer survivors, both in their private practices and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Their considerable years of experience, and evident knack for listening to their clients' concerns, inform this useful and wide-ranging guide.

There are nine sections: "Survivorship: A Mixed Blessing," "Managing Uncertainty," "Communicating with Family and Friends," "Legal, Financial, and Workplace Concerns," "Too Young For Cancer," "Maintaining Your Health," "Sex, Intimacy, and Fertility," "Growth, Change, and Spirituality," "Cancer as A Chronic Illness," and, finally, a good appendix, glossary, and index.

This is realistic and realistically compassionate information about how to live, really, after cancer. Survivors of cancer need this information and counsel which is not, unfortunately, included in their treatment. Patients' mixed feelings regarding illness and recovery, finishing treatment, the interpretation of scary statistics, communicating and coping with friends, colleagues, and loved ones - along with the realities of medical insurance and legal and workplace issues are covered. Psychological challenges including disappointment, depression and anxiety, sexual dilemmas, the management of uncertainty, feelings of shame or guilt, the fear of recurrence, and many more topics are discussed.

Often, Q-and-A formats aren't organized so that the reader can simply find the several answers for which he or she is searching. One finds oneself paging through the whole thing for an answer or two. This book, in contrast, can be a quick reference or read in its entirety. It's not only well-organized, it's well-indexed. The questions are to-the-point and the answers are on average several paragraphs long. You never feel rushed.

I'd recommend this excellent and helpful guide without reservation to survivors of cancer and the people who care about them. For clinicians it's a useful compendium of the things that matter most to patients once treatment is finished.

Listen to your Intuition and read this book

Review Date: 2000-01-24
Anybody who has read Christine's previous books Frontiers of Health & Mirrors of Existence or worked through her fabulous Mind and Body Workbook will know they are in for a another inspirational journey when they read this book....

Using Christine's own life experiences she encapsulates the essence of listening to your inner truth allowing you to follow that small voice in your head known as Intuition. The gift of her writing is inspirational and through her use of meditation and acknowledging our own belief systems she enables us to connect with our psychic senses, logic, emotions and instincts.

Christine uses examples from her own life to highlight that we sometimes distrust messages that our intuition is giving us. As we have a belief system that they sometimes will appear illogical to others, cause pain to the ones we love, or cause us to be the source of ridicule or rejection. However if we listen to that little voice and go with that "gut reaction" we will be following our correct path.

With the use of meditations in the book, you too can connect to this inner knowing and connect with the feminine side that is within us all, just waiting to be let out.

Christine is an inspirational author, and her choice to share her experiences endears the book to show you what you can achieve in life with a little self worth and intuition.
