The story was mainly told in the forest. The main characters in the story was Franklin. The minor characters were bear, rabbit, fox beaver skunk. The theme was that this book would be that school is alot of fun and don't be afraid to go there. School is a good learning experience. The style would be that the author has a picture on every page and it has friends playing and having fun on every page.

Our 5 yr old loves the entire series. She reads them aloud.

From the first time our daughter had a "Franklin" book read to her, she's loved the series. Beautifully illustrated and written "up" to a child's level. We wish there were more titles available.

Franklin wins the hearts of children the very first time .

All of the Franklin books deal with something a child might face. They are written so it is easy for children to conect with their new found friend, and thats just what Franklin will become. I teach children and Franklin is the most asked for of all the books we have. His stories are great and children learn from his experiences.

A VERY SWEET AND ENDEARING BOOK

At some time, all children want their first pet. Reading this book helps show children that pets are work and that having one is not just fun. As always, good illustrations and a nice theme that is consistent with Franklin books.

This book is cute. I now read more mature books, like Sweet Valley University, since I'm a teenager and all. But I remember when I read Full House books. The good ole Club Stephanie. It's cute and funny how every summer they always end up with the Flamingoes, and the same routine. The Flamingoes play tricks on them, they fight over the guys, etc. This book is great and really gives you the feeling of young summer love.

Watch out Golding!

While not as explosive as "Friend or Flamingo," this first novel in the Club Stephanie series explores social incongruities in post-Cold War San Francisico. Wrapped around a bare bones Steinbeck-like narrative detailing the struggles of setting up a summer camp for neighborhood children, the book moves at such a blistering pace that it's easy to miss Quin-Harkin and Taaffe's subtle nuances. Indeed, their scope of intertextual references ranging from Chaucer to Pete Townshend fix the battle between the two groups on a wider social level, foreshadowing the LA riots and Atlanta Olympics.

The influence of William Golding is not lost on the authors either. Indeed, her paradise is all too easily corrupted. Stephanie emerges in the novel as a flawed heroine, whose victories depend upon her ability to arrive at universal truths. All the while, she remains engaging and entertaining to the reader.

While my love of the series leads me to award a 5 star rating to this book, my mixed feelings on the dualistic ending put it at 4 stars. The ending definitely raises more questions than it answers, leaving many a reader, myself included, feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

A superbly written book in which the author reveals and shares so many personal details of his life, making it most personal, inspiring, humorous and enjoyable. In a day when so many journalists have an agenda, it is delightful to read past essays from a journalist who does not have an agenda, is not to the right or to the left attempting to impose an attitude or set of beliegs on the reader. The author has compiled a second book of essays, which I have not been able to find...

Never in my life have I encountered an author with such colorful grace in describing life, and the way which Bill Tammeus writes is the same way that we'd each like to author our own. He is truly an artist of our time, working in words like others do in oils or clay. If you're willing to be caught reading a book cover to cover, than "A Gift of Meaning" is the literary genius to take you on your journey.

Food for the Brain and the Heart

Bill Tammeus notices things as one who participates widely in life. He asks you to notice the meaning of these things with him, even as he assumes you will interpret them yourself. His range of subjects is remarkable. And no matter his focus--family, the news, war, politics, sports, AIDS, celebrated heroes, the "soft underbelly" of the media, pop culture, and much more--he always is scratching at what it means to keep human life human.

Tammeus' seasoned writing, thoughtful organization of topics and column length pieces (about two pages each) make reading effortless and a joy. His wit and self-effacing humor jump out of almost every page. But just the moment you chuckle with him, he takes you through his own personal pain and your eyes well up. Whether he is graced and elated or is staggering under grief, he touches you deep inside, because he writes so honestly from his own inner depths. No matter the subject, he leaves you full and enriched.

The author opens with personal reflections on the burial of his mother in a muddy Illinois plot in 1996. In the Epilogue he writes poignantly about what the world lost with the senseless death of his beloved nephew Karleton (and of all the others) in the first plane to hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. From his first word to his last, Tammeus packs his 250 pages with life. Thus, "A Gift of Meaning" makes a wonderful gift. I have already given copies to several people I love.

Good Burger was by far one of my favorite movies, and now it's one of my favorite books too! The below average intellegence of Ed and the cockyness of Dexter make one of the greatest tag teams in movie charachters today! After watching the movie in July '97, I read the book in February '98 and the book had every little detail correct! I could just picture strage but lovable Ed saying "Uhh...... No?" and other catch phrases.

Good follow-up to the first

Review Date: 2000-07-02
The un-official sequel to the awesome flick Small Soldiers is no where near as good as the original, but a fine follow-up nothenless. This sequel lacked the action of the first and the ending is even worse than that of the first, but it's improved in places. The human characters have much better development than those from the first and the script is a lot less predictable. You get to know the Gorgonites better than in the first so you'll really start to like them,as they go on great adventures.Driving a toy jeep in a toy store, doing battle with The Commando Elite with a bulldozers and dueling in a fortress with the commandos. This sequel also has a lot less plot holes than the first and the violence is very low,so it'll probably be rated PG if it's turned into a movie.Although it's no where near as entertaining or as funny as the first and it was a bit disappointing that none of the human characters from the original returned,it's still an above-average follow-up to the first. It simply MUST be turned into a movie and I really hope a Small Soldiers 3 is planned!

The best of Groucho, literally!

Review Date: 2000-10-11
Though best known as a performer, Groucho Marx always cherished the opportunity to express himself in writing. Robert S. Bader has collected a large number of his short works -- some of them autobiographical, others comic essays and letters -- most of which have never been published before in book form. Unlike the recent collection "The Essential Groucho," by Stefan Kanfer, which contained excerpts from Marx Brothers plays, films, and television shows, all the pieces collected here were written by Groucho himself (or were they? Bader's long, well-written introduction discusses the contributions of Groucho's silent collaborator, Arthur Sheekman). Not every one is a gem, but on the whole the collection is delightful. A "must" addition to any Marx collection.

Review Date: 1997-07-10
Groucho was a funny man, we know that. He was an essayist, maybe we didn't know that. He wanted to be known foremost as a writer. Here's proof he should be.

This collection of Marx's essays is read by Carl Reiner. Reiner reads all of Groucho's works with a stunning facimile af Groucho's voice. It's as if Groucho himself has come back just to read this collection. Reiner's innate comedian's timing rounds out this performance making one of the best recorded performances I've had the pleasure of listening to.

Guaranteed to make a Groucho lover out of anyone. Even your kids..

After a recent bout with a little known plant toxin affecting my prized stallion, I searched through various horse/pasture guides and discovered that they were either incomplete, or didn't correctly list the true distribution of the weed/plant across the United States. Ultimately, I found this book and despite its price decided to give it a try. I have been delighted with the depth and breadth of information in this book, and it is particularly comforting to be able to read about ALL possible things that I need to look for in my pastures. If you own horses, or care for them on your property, do yourself a favor and get this book! Its also great to protect my dogs.

Describes the toxins involved then gives you clinical signs diagnosis and treatment for the animal. You need this book in your barn!

My three-year-old grandson loves the movie "Happy Feet". When I saw this book, I knew he would love it too. However, when it arrived, I was amazed at the quality. The pictures come right from the movie and the story is carefully condensed without losing the integrity of the movie. My grandson looked at the pictures and told me what was happening in each one because they follow the movie exactly. This is one of the books that he will keep all his life and share with his own children some day.

Mumble is a great name for this penguin, and the story does send the message to be true to yourself. Kids need to hear this and recognize that their differences are special gifts. It was wonderful to watch children dancing their own happy dances after hearing this story. The movie is also great and pleasing that the message is "happy" and not violent or cynical.
