This is a great book that captures the history of the formation of EPCOT based on concepts that were proposed. Some did not come to fruition. Some were put into place, but have now been replaced by others. This now reads as a history/nostalga book. It is still a fun read. The pictures are beautiful, and the text enjoyable. I have a version that shows ISBN 0810908190 published in 1982, 240 pages as listed here, but has a slightly different cover. I will try to load a photo.

This book is great is because it's from when Epcot Center was just opening. It was published before the park even opened. Some things it discusses never even made it to the parks! For example, there are beautiful sketches of the Africa pavilion in the World Showcase, which never came to be. This book is not what I expected, it's better than I expected. I think every Disney fan should have one in their collection.

If you carry a gun or are planning on doing so then this book is a must read. In his own voice Bryan Williams clearly explains what every gun owner or person interested in the safety and protection of themselves or others needs to know to win a violent confrontation! I highly recommend this book to everyone. I was not able to put the book down once I started reading it. Welcome to the Real world is filled with many useful techniques and stories based on the authors vast real life experiences as a former cop who won a medal for bravery in the line of duty. Also Bryan is able to draw upon his years of experience working in the private security and protective services and training countless civilians, law enforcement and military personel to win and not just survive!

Having studied martial arts for eight years and taught self defense for close to two years there is no other book I can reccommend to sharpen your awareness and learn real life skills in the world of self defense especially if you are interested in carrying a concealed firearm. With real-life experiences and situations to base his teachings on, Mr. Williams approaches tactical firearms training with a simple, down-to-earth tone that works!

Bravo! Finally a book which the layperson can understand! Low on jargon and insider buzzwords, it's high on clarity, timliness, and practicality. The book reads easily, and answers all those questions mused upon by the average person. The touch of humor was a welcome respite to such a ponderous subject, and I'm looking forward to Mr. Williams next volume. Hopefully it wll expand upon actual scenarios, discuss legal cautions, and reinforce the principles set forth in this work. A read worthy of one's precious time this.

I find the book reads easily and well, not like a text book or manual. It gives you practical information on how to stay safe on a day to day basis, allowing you to live and not to be over paranoid in these ever changing times. This book sharpens your situational awareness and gives you basic fundamentals that will never change. His real life descriptions make you realize how dangerous society has become and how unprepared you are to face those situations.

I have been in the self defense business for 25 years, both in the military and in civilian life, and I can tell you that 80% of the population has no idea what dangers surround them or what to do about it. Welcome to the Real World will fill you in quickly, and give you no nonsense information about how to recognize danger, avoid it, and if you cannot avoid it, how to handle it. The power of the book comes from the fact that the author knows what he is talking about - he has been there and done that, and wants to make sure his knowledge and experience can help the reader. As a fellow author, I also found the book to be written in and informative, yet entertaining style. I will recommend this book to all of my students.

This is really a nice textbook that you would find in a college book store for your classes. Author describes wet flies: its history, how to tie them, and how to fish with them. I DO recommend author's other publication: Trout Flies. This also describes the depth of fly-tying and how to fish with them.

One of the most useful books a flyfisherperson can have. Outstanding information and advice on tying flies that will be useful and how, when and why to fish them. Covers softhackles, flymphs, nymphs and winged wets. Simply a great read even if you do not intend to fish many wet flies. Highly recommended.

I have only recently starting flyfishing and am in process of learning with dries. Picked up this book in an effort to understand one more aspect of this wonderful sport. Dave Hughes has done an outstanding job whetting my appetite for fishing with soft-hackles, winged and wingless wets (flymphs, I love that word!) and fuzzy nymphs. The respect he has for those who opened his eyes to this area of the sport comes through in the elegant and simple manner in which he explains the material. This is clear, practical, and a whole lot of fun. Terrific!

But sports become complicated and messy when parents get too involved. This is a great book to help give any parent the insight and perspective they need to help themselves and their kids, whether they coach or not. Enjoy!

Aberman and Anderson use terrific examples to demonstrate important facets of strong leadership. Through their 'stories' you see the significance of knowing who you are before you can effectively lead others.

A great book for encouraging girls to love sports, and show that it is OK for a girl to have a competitive drive. The pictures are full of action and excitement and make you want to get out on the field! There is a perfect amount of text per page to keep the attention of a 2.5 y.o. We are very selective about the books we buy, checking them out of the library first, and we will definitely be adding this book to our collection!

The story is a favorite in our house. It's got cute pictures and a great message about being a good sport. When Mia quits she is made to sit out the next time and she realizes that it's more fun to play then to get upset about the game. It's nice that you don't know if she makes a goal at the end because it doesn't really matter if she does. What matters is that she's being a good sport.

My only remotely negative comment is minor - they use the word hate. It's not a big deal but we're working on having the kids NOT use that word so it turns into a "ummmm...she said hate..." Not a big deal at all and a good opportunity to show an appropriate way to use the word but it's there nonetheless.

I have read Michelle Kwan's 'The Winning Attitude'T'wice!
While I no longer belong to the age group that the writing's are aimed at, not for a long........time.I nevertheless was
impressed by the writings. I fail to understand why anyone who has read this book would consider it suitable only for children. One only has to keep up with the News to know of the problems that prevail in communities among all age groups to see how the principals laid out in this book, which I found to be both educational and inspirational, could prove valuable to anyone who takes the time study and follow the guidelines therein.I would suggest this book could be used in schools if not as part of the text certainly in civic classes!
With the author as an ''outstanding role model'' who lives by the
very same rules I could only imagine this book which is full of
''commonsense'' as having a positive influence on schoolgoers,
teachers and parents alike.

It is a bit annoying that amazon places it for age 9 - 12 and that reviewers say it's good for their children. (not good for themselves?) Though the book is full of 'childish' languages, the winning attitude here is full of youth and refreshing, unlike those written by professional psychiatrists - I'm not saying they are not good. I recommend this book to all who love Michelle.

This may be the finest book on the general elements of yacht design that I have ever read. It is extremely readable and entertaining. It contains explanations of matters I have never seen in print before, such as NACA section for rudder and keel. Steve Killing uses real life examples such as the Albacore class dinghy and the C&C 35. It is not for the professional as several other books available here are...but it is very nearly as useful. Matters such as scantlings and constrution methods are better discussed in other books. However, the clarity of writing and an immensely enjoyable style make this book one that anyone interested in yacht design should not miss.

This book is clearly structured and explains yacht design clearly and to the point. Many illustrations and diagrams that explain yacht design for the rest of us. I know some professionals that work in yacht design and they were impressed too. Impressive amount of information covered in about 250 pages covering hull design, rudder, keel, rig, ballast, sails, performance predictions, tank testing and Americas Cup. I learned a lot and it is required reading for the ASA 108 certification (Offshore Passage making). Very impressive and worth every penny. Sail fast and understand why!

Clear and thorough explanations, lavishly illustrated and wide ranging in scope, put Killing and Hunter's book at the top of its field. "Yacht Design Explained" delivers an excellent mix of the technical with the practical. Killing's extremely readable, clearly understandable text "fairs" seamlessly with Douglas Hunter's outstanding two color drawings. This book covers a wide range of subjects from physics of design to the reasons that various designs work or fail. Attention is given to the history of competetive yachting. Competetive racer, day sailor, dabbler in yacht design, and curious reader alike will find this book a delight. "Yacht Design Explained" delivers and deserves to be a classic.

I'm an automotive designer who enjoys technical reading. Over the years I've subscribed to numerous boating publications and have purchased a handfull of books on sail power yacht design. This book is by far the best. It will answer many of your questions such as "why is a longer hull faster?", "why does 1.34 x the square root of the waterline length approximate max hull speed?". The book is well written and presents a short history of each design element i.e, sail configurations. The technical formulas are seperated in sidebar configuration for those who avoid math at all costs. If you are only going to buy one book on sail powered yacht design-this is the one.

This is a great source for Yosemite Big Walls. It provides valuable information including strategies, ratings with relative comparisons to other big wall routes, approaches, precise topos, optimum belays and bivy locations, pitch-linking possibilities, weather/seasonal factors, and descent routes. For those interested in Yosemite Big Wall history, there is a section devoted to the pioneers of Yosemite Big Wall climbing that is quite interesting. All in all, a great book for Yosemite's Big Walls. Thumbs up!!

These topos are the best on the planet!

They are so detailed they allowed me to relive most of the hard or akward sections on the wall, occasionally even describing a single move. With the supertopos you can be ultimately prepared, as they include to what extent "clean routes" depend on fixed gear and what to bring if some of it rips out.

Real wall-rats/purists might feel that it removes some of the adventure, but then again you don't have to read everything and there is still plenty adventure left. Also the stories of the first ascents and histories of the climbs make it the ultimate guide, and even a good read.

Reading it got me so psyched up that I can hardly wait for my next "Big Wall" trip.

I can only hope that the other supertopos (e.g. free climbs) will be just as good.

Loses a little from the original

My son and I borrowed both this reissue with new illustrations and the original (Bundle Book) from the library; I came to Amazon to shop for both editions. The original is has a very vintage feel -- the illustrations are two-color and sketchy, the mother wears a 3/4-sleeve sweater, the verbal constructions are a bit dated ("I think I'm sure I don't need Humpty Dumpty"). The text is the same in the newer edition also, but the illustrations are new. In both editions, the illustrations convey the strong bond between the mother and the child (the gender of the child is unclear).

The biggest difference is in the content of the illustrations -- the older edition concentrates on mother/child relationship, illustrating the mother and her blanketed child (my 2-year old son loves to imitate the mother's poses as she ponders what might be under that blanket). The loving illustrations of mother and child in the newer edition are really lovely, but I don't much care for the fantasy illustrations interspersed (monkeys, bundles of carrots, Humpty Dumpty, etc.) -- yes, they illustrate the text, but to my mind, they are distractions from the game that the mother and child are playing and don't advance the story. (A petty quibble -- I couldn't figure out why the mother, who was in a bathrobe, is wearing earings.)

If you can find a copy of the earlier edition, take a look!

A touching portrait of mother and child

One morning a mother sees a strange bundle under the blankets on her bed. As she wonders aloud what it might be--a monkey? A bundle of carrots? Or Humpty-Dumpty?--the bundle proclaims "No, no, no, no, NO!" until finally it reveals itself: "It's ME!" cries the tousle-headed little toddler.

If you're a baby boomer, you might remember this book from your childhood. It was originally published in 1951 under the title "The Bundle Book." Here it is updated with a new title and brand new illustrations.

Purists, who flinch every time they see remakes of Disney classics like "The Absent-Minded Professor" and "The Parent Trap," will no doubt cringe when they hear that old books are being redone with new pictures. But, as nice as the original pale chalk and charcoal drawings were, they were not irreplaceable illustrations along the lines of Garth Williams' pencil sketches that accompany the "Little House" books. The story doesn't suffer at all, and the updated look just means a new generation of children will be exposed to a tender little story.

Noonan has illustrated the new book beautifully. The cover alone, a touching portrait of mother and child, makes this book stand out from others on the shelf. The rich pastel colors are as warm and inviting as the chenille bedspread under which the child hides.

I think this would make a nice gift for a new mother on Mother's Day and will be a book that toddlers want read over and over again.

My 20 month old son has a very eclectic taste in the books he enjoys. I was surprised when he pulled this off of his book shelf amidst many other books. It is now the favorite book and we read it over and over and over again. The text is simple; the illustrations are realistic yet warm; and, we never grow tired of discussing the illustrations on each page. I think he enjoys it because of the above reasons, and because it is predictable, yet the "surprise" ending never becomes boring. This book is truly a "find."

adorable story of love between mother and daughter

A lovely story of a toddler girl hiding under a blanket and playing a game of "what is under the blanket"? Mother makes many guesses as to what it can be and each response is "I don't need (the item)". At the end the girl pops out and declares the lump was "me" and then mother states that is just what she needed. This is very cute and shows love and typical interaction between a loving mother and adoring daughter. I have the board book version and I am sure it will get much repeated use. The theme of love between parent and child is not seen often enough in children's books and I am glad to see it in this book. Often books focus on the child, the child's activities, or objects (cars, trains, toys, etc.) rather than focusing on the expression and communication of love between parent and child.

I though I had done that already. So, once again, the book arrived on time but the sender failed to tell that this was a LIBRARY BOOK. It was full of stickers with library numbers on the cover and inside the book itself. Had I known this, I would not have bought it. It's one thing to buy a "used" book. It's another, to buy a used book with stickers and notations. So, I am not very pleased and I emailed the sender upon receipt.

Every parent of a young athlete should ready this book.

I have four daughters, and as I read this book I alternated between thinking "That's exactly right based on my experience!" and "Wow, I'm very glad to know that!"

The range and depth of information is impressive, and Dr. Metzl's writing style makes you just keep reading once you start.

This book should be required reading by all sporting parents. I can promise you'll be a better parent for having read it.

When my son slipped during a recent curling match, I was worried that he'd never feel comfortable comepting gain, but Dr. Metzl's excellent book gave my wife and me the information we needed to get our son back in the game. This book is a must-read for parents with kids in sports. It does for sports injuries what chicken soup and chopped liver do for the soul.

A Superb Book

This is one of the best health books, and one of the best parenting books, I have ever read. Dr. Metzl's style is both authoritative and engaging. I highly recommend this book.

Dr. Metzl clearly articulates the do's and don'ts of sports medicine and there impact to young athlete's. He has a dry sense of humor that makes the book an enjoyable read. A must have for parents with active, athletic children.
