My husband and I love the books by Stephen Cartwright. The Alphabet book uses alliteration of each letter and each letter gets it's own page. Example- for letter A - "All the animals are asleep on the Apple Tree Farm. Can you find two apples?" - Besides the hidden apples to look for, there are a number of different farm animals in beautiful color for recognization skills and counting. Each page also has a hidden duck which runs through many of the Stephen Cartwright books. Great book, perfect gift for toddlers just learning animals, or older children learning their ABCs.

Great Resource for Alternative Health Care

Review Date: 2007-04-18
This book provides an excellent guide for those who want alternative care. It includes information on herbs, acupuncture, mind-body work, food supplements and other alternatives. Written by a physician and based on the ratings of a panel of health care providers it covers a wide range of expertise. I was especially interested in the section on back pain that I had recently experienced. True to my experience the traditional medical and physical therapy mentioned was not effective but the alternatives were. This book can save the consumer time from experimenting and lets them go straight to the best treatment available. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent guide to choosing an alternative health care option. It marries the option with the ailments so readers can see what options work best with their specific concern. The cost of treatment is invaluable when making a choice and for comparison when talking with providers. This one is a keeper for your personal bookshelf!

Magical Writing

Upon reading the book to my 3rd grade class my students were mesmerized. They loved the pictures, the writing was easy to understand, and the story line came alive. Ray does an excellent job with the illustrations - they complement the author's beautiful words. Benoit Slawson's writing is absolutely wonderful - my students could not get enough of this book. In fact, we continued our storytime by following the book up with a trip to the local apple orchard (insisted upon by my 8 year olds!). I just wish Benoit Slawson would come out with her next book; although, it will be hard to follow the perfection of "Apple Picking Time". I will be the first one to buy her next book, and I am positive my students will love it as much as their beloved "Apple Picking Time". The book is both poetic and informative - such a wonderful combination for this brand-new, highly talented author!!

This book is a wonderful read aloud to share with any grade in school as it can be adapted to suit different age groups & their comprehension abilities. Along with Keats' other books, it has an urban theme & great to use as a mentor text or author study.

Apartment 3

I first read this book to my daughter when she was 4-years-old. The New York tenement setting was such a foreign world in contrast to her suburban Dallas upbringing that she was immediately enthralled with the fact that so many families of diverse ethnic backgrounds would all live in one building. Keats paints such a vivid word picture that a child as young as she could easily be drawn into the story line. The characters and events became real to her, to the extent that she could literally hear the harmonica playing. My daughter begged to revisit this story and consequently every trip to the library for the next year included Apartment 3. To this day, at age 29 and expecting her first child, she still recalls this book and wants a copy of her own.

It is a very simple board book & she asks to read it over & over! She is only 2yrs. old, but already asks to read "Bedtime for Laura". We have all the "My 1st Little House Books." These are adorable board books for ages 2-6yrs. I would highly recommend the whole series.

If you are a fan of Little House books and would like to introduce very young children (ages 2-6) to Little House on the Praire, this book and its other three companions are the perfect way. The board book format is just the right size for little hands. The pictures by Renee Graef and Susan Mc Aliley are so sweet and beautiful! The text is simple but those who are just starting to read on their own will need a little help. Bedtime for Laura, with little girls in nightcaps under cozy quilts and Pa playing his fiddle, is sure to evoke sweet memories in those who have cherished the Little House collection, and teach the very young ones to fall in love with it for the first time.

Krebs has written a delightful book that brings to life a glowing glimpse of "The Beeman." Seen through the eyes of a grandchild, this book invokes a warm town as gentle bee-keeping facts are given. Her book is an excellent addition to a family library or a classroom's apiary unit. I can't wait to see her other books.

This warm, appealing picture book about bee-keeping (and grandparenting) is a delight from beginning to end. The text is spare and rhythmic, perfect for reading aloud, and the illustrations are full of bright colors and cheerfully inviting. Bees tend to fascinate young children, even if they frighten them; this book offers an insightful, reassuring look at the pleasures of bee-keeping for a little girl and her grandfather.

Spell binding story telling

Very seldom in our time do we come across a writer who can tell a story as well as Anna Quindlen. She has a fascinating use of methodology and quizzical styling. I buy anything that Anna writes or produces as it is highly entertaining and fun to be stimulated by her uncanny writings.

Commencement addresses you actually will want to hear!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-28
Commencement addresses are not ordinarily something I look
forward to hearing . . . yet when given the opportunity to listen to
two of them, I grabbed the opportunity by obtaining BEING PERFECT
AND A SHORT GUIDE TO A HAPPY LIFE--a short but powerful
CD read and written by Anna Quindlen.

Quindlen, the prolific author of novels, nonfiction books and
children's books, is also a 1992 Pulitzer Prize recipient for
her NEW YORK TIMES column . . . her column now
appears every other week in NEWSWEEK.

She took the aforementioned title from two commencement
addresses she had prepared . . . when she kept getting
requests for them, she put them into book form: A SHORT GUIDE
TO A HAPPY LIFE, followed by BEING PERFECT.

Both titles contain such useful advice that I found myself
listening to them repeatedly.

For example, she urges you to set aside your friends' advice,
what your family and co-workers demand, and what society
expects, and look at the choices you make every day. When
you ask yourself why you are making them, Quindlen encourages
you to give this answer: For me. "Because they are what
I want, or wish for. Because they reflect who and what I am . . .
[the] melodies spun out by your own heart."

Or when it comes to being a mother, a wife and a friend,
she notes, "I show up. I listen. I try to laugh."

My only regret is that Quindlen was not the speaker at my high school
or college graduations.

My 6 year old is going through a "horse" phase at the moment, so DH and I decided to purchase this book along with 2 other titles in this series. She LOVES this one particularly because it's a winter story....and it's winter now. Guess she'll move on to the spring one being her favorite as the season changes. Overall a good book for young readers and I would recommend this product to others. Great price too.

My 4yr old loves this book, all she wants for Christmas is a "horse called Belle".(suitable for older children too!) A story about a little girl who has to sell her horse, and move from the country to the city. The book deals with adapting, getting lost, and trust.
