Jason Hartman has done a great job outlining what it means to create a brand. He discusses techniques and tools used by both the business elite and celbrities to help build their "brands," and more importantly, he gives tips on how to apply these techniques in everyday life.

This is an important book for any business or entrepreneur

Becoming the Brand of Choice is an important book for any large business, small business or entrepreneur. Jason Hartman's point about creating "clients for life," is ignored by too many in business. The hot new prospect or client is the hardest to sell. If you concentrate on the clients you already have through methods Jason emphasizes in the book (i.e. Customer Care, Collaboration, Consistancy, and Chain of Relationships) you not only get continuing business but attract new clients and customers. This is an important book and long needed on the market.

Both text and illustrations give a feel for a different time and place.
I have never been to Appalachians, but I feel as though I would know the
place and the people through this little book. My grandchild also loves
to have this read to her. It seems particularly comforting to her.

I don't understand the School Library Journal Review. However, I have
noticed in the past that sometimes they take on a crankiness that just
simply is not justified. I think that this is one of those times.

Changed my mind about this one

When I first read this book to our 2-year-old, I wasn't optimistic that she would ever like it and didn't care much for it, myself. However, after a few months we read it again and it is now her favorite book. We read it every night. The illustrations are soft yet sophisticated, and the repetition of the lines is soothing to her, I think. Anyway if our daughter is the judge (and she is), this one merits the top score.

Beautiful book - a family favorite.

My 22-month old daughter has enjoyed this book for months and we are constantly checking it out of the library. We are finally buying our own copy! The illustrations are lovely and the writing is very lyrical. There are plenty of objects to point to (and have your child identify) to build his/her vocabulary and the active features of the text encourage acting out various facets of the story such as "walking" the water, patting the bread, finding the kittens and baby's belly button, etc. I highly recommend this book!

A wonderful story, lilting and comforting, about taking the blue bowl down to make bread. An Appalachian rhyme.....read it to my grandson and he loves it. Old fashioned, comforting book.

I was disappointed to read the review by the School Library Journal. This book passes down timeless traditions: baking bread, mothers teaching and caring for their children, bedtime rituals. The lilting lullaby narration is not to be taken literally. The mother in the story, like many of us, talks to her young son as she works. She sings of lighting the lantern, little baby, and stoking the fire, little baby. Your pre-schooler may not learn how to bake bread by reading this book, but it opens the door for conversation about why we sift flour and how yeast works. I think it's a great book. I read to my 3-yr-old and 10-month-old day and night, and this is a favorite!

I am going to make this short and sweet. Kind of like the bread. I hate to cook. I love to eat. We have had a bread machine for a year and hardly used it. The bread did not come out right or it took too many ingredients we did not have. I happened to see this book (very eye catching), read the first recipe. It looked easy and there was no magic to it. It used ingredients we already have. The machine has not been back in the cupboard since. The author makes it easy to read, fun, and you get good bread. This book is a must for anyone with a bread machine that is getting dusty. It also has a large and interesting variety of recipes.

I am completely new to the world of bread machine baking so, of course, I ran to Amazon and bought several books of recipes. This book by Connie Merydith is, however, far and away my favorite and the one I turn to the most. The book is beautifully laid-out with clear, easy-to-read type and nice small illustrations of bread at the bottom of most pages. The recipes are arranged by season with hearty wheat, nut and spice breads made with molasses, rolled oats and dried fruits for fall and winter, and lighter breads with honey, yogurt, fresh fruit and vegetables for spring and summer. The author also includes recipes for non-loaf breads such as bagels, breakfast and dinner rolls, pita bread, pizza dough, bread sticks, focaccia, and bread rings. I used this book to make an assortment of rolls for Thanksgiving last week: oatmeal-molasses, peppery parmesan, orange spiral, wheat spice and rich dinner rolls (the bread recipes can all be made into rolls -- just stop your bread-maker before it begins to bake). There are also instructions for making and using a sourdough starter and a very complete index. If you're only going to buy one bread machine cookbook, then this is the one to get.

I bought this book based solely on the other reviews I read here, and I'm awfully glad I did. Though the book might not be for bread machine novices (there's hardly any information about the machines themselves, or advice on how to make sure your breads come out well), the recipe ideas are creative and tasty. The black olive bread is especially wonderful, and I'm looking forward to trying more.

I found THE BUSHWHACKER to be readable, interesting and informative. Although the setting is the Civil War, the book opens many opportunities for discussions as the situation is similar to events in many parts of our world today (such as Kosovo, N. Ireland). The theme of forgiveness and peacemaking can never be emphasized too often. Though I am an adult, I found the book held my interest to the very end.

Outstanding juvenile historical fiction

J.J. Garrity's book The Bushwhacker is the story of a young boy and girl in war-torn Missouri during the Civil War. After being burned out of their home by a Rebel-sympathizing Bushwhacker, Jacob and Eliza learn important lessons about forgiveness and looking beyond stereotypes and prejudices.

Jennifer Johnson Garrity has given us a wonderful gift in this juvenile novel. The Bushwhacker tells of events in Missouri during the early part of the Civil War from the perspective of a young boy who has been forced from his home by bushwhackers (rebel sympathizers who were intent on pushing Pro-Union folks out). The story does not take the easy way out on any of the real-life issues that are at the heart of this story. This reader (an adult) found the story wonderfully paced and very thought-provoking. The Bushwhacker is highly recommended for young readers, especially those interested in the Civil War. Adults will enjoy the story as well.

The Bushwhacker is a fantastic read!

Jennifer Johnson Garrity has captured the hearts of my children with her true-to-life Civil War story, "The Bushwhacker." American history, to them, used to be filled the drudgery of memorizing dates and names, but through reading "The Bushwhacker," the Civil War has come alive through the story of two families and their struggles.

The story is of Jacob and Eliza Knight, two children severed from their parents by masked gunmen with torches, as they fled their home being engulfed by flames. Finding themselves alone, they struggle to survive in the war-torn state of Missouri, where a bushwhacker's mask at night hides the smile of a lifelong neighbor by day. They're forced to take refuge in a home of an enemy sympathizer where Jacob learns through the bitterness of revenge the freedom of forgiveness.

Through Eliza and Jacob's trials, my children gained an understanding of both sides of the war along with a message of forgiveness and unity that is powerful and engaging.

My ten-year-old is studying the Civil War this year at school, and shared her copy of "The Bushwhacker" with her teacher. Her teacher not only enjoyed reading it herself, but has also added it to her class curriculum.

A Must for young readers

I am a home-school tutor and have read this book to some of my students. Besides thoroughly enjoying the storyline, they were able to grasp what life was like during this terrible time and understand that the Civil War was not just about slavery as so many people believe. They were also able to learn about forgiveness and that there are always two sides to every story. My students begged me to read it each day and were wanting more books by this author when it was over.

This Hank story is standard Hank fare, with a slight retread of previous scrapes, but still enjoyable. The antics of the humans are as funny as ever, with Loper and Slim sparring and blowing up ranch equipment and so forth. The story line doesn't move as far or as fast as several other Hank books, but it is still a pleasant outing with the Hank crew.

According to the grandchildren 10 & 13 the characters are delightful and draws you into picturing the situation in your mind. Thank goodness the author who is also the narrator is terrific and is in full stride for enjoyable listening. The tones and inflections easily identify the characters. I purchased a sequence of books that was read by somebody other than the author and then this particular author decided to be her own narrator and believe you me it sure destroyed the stories. Stay with what works.

For readers of any age the Hank The Cow Dog series is one of the best. It will hold the attention of older struggling readers with lower abilities. Parents reading to their children will enjoy the books as much as the kids do. With wit and humor the adventures of Hank keep us turing the pages. I have not read every book in the series but I will.

Amazon should make a complete set of these available.

Hank is arrogant enough to laugh at, and his entourage provides a perfect backdrop for his inevitable comeupance. One thumb, way up!

Having been born and raised on a cattle ranch(not in Texas however)there is so much to relate to in the Hank books, we have rattlesnakes too, and learn to look very carefully before reaching for anything lying around in the summertime. My 8 year old loves me to read the Hank books to him,(I do a real good Drover) soon we both become part of the story, and lose track of time. Even if you've never had a cowdog, or lived on a ranch, you'll love this book, but if you have, you'll be hooked for life on Hank the Cowdog! We are.

I would recommend Hank the Cow Dog Case of the Double Bumblebee Sting because it's funny. Hank thinks two bumblebees have bitten him but it ends up that it was a rattlesnake. His face swells up like a balloon. He says, "It weighs 250 pounds". Drover keeps on saying that it was a rattlesnake, but Hank will be Hank - stubborn as a donkey. Hank keeps on saying, "it was 2 bumblebees in that pipe". Drover just goes with the flow and says "OK". I recommend this book to you and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Of all the dog heroes in the world Hank is by far our favorite. He takes his job as head of ranch security very seriously. It's funny but also touching to see Hank strive to maintain his dignity as he suffers the consequences of inserting his nose (in a pipe) before putting his brain in gear. I have read Hank books with my kids for years and this one had me taking more time outs for laughing than any of the others. I couldn't help but read the last chapter myself after the kids were in bed and thoroughly enjoyed the surprise ending.

If your copy of the book, like mine, says "Rip and Snort, the good-for nothing coyote brothers" and calls them "the side of evil" on the back, please don't pay any attention. Rip and Snort are very funny and not the least bit evil. Anyway, this book was pretty good, as are all of the Hank the Cowdog books. In this one Hank was blamed for scattering garbage all over the place and goes to become an outlaw with the coyotes. I adored Rip and Snort's song "Oh Boy" and Hank's new verson of the Coyote Sacred Hymn and National Athem, "Me Just a Worthless Coyote."

One of Hank's test was to raid garbage barrels at a trailer park. There Hank meets Eddy the Rac (racoon), an old "friend." Eddy makes Hank a "deal" which gets Hank in trouble. Sally May, Hank's master's wife, has to come clean up the trash that Hank has spilled around the park. Then Sally May said they would have to give Hank away, but little Alfred, her son, convinces her to let Hank stay.

I tried a lot of this type stuff. Subliminals didn't work for me. At least this one makes sense and actually when I think of a past experience that I want to forget, it's not so bad. In fact, according to this tape all experiences remain in your mind, so better to release the bad feeling attached to it. So I tried to do that and I do feel more free about it. Maybe the tape or maybe just me facing it, either way, I'll take it. Good tape. I use it to sleep sometimes, too.

Having used numerous such self-help tapes throughout the years I found myself surprised at the power of the technique and the equal power of Kyriazi's presentation.

I also recommend Kyriazi's JAMES BOND LIFESTYLE SEMINAR which can be life-changing. Many people can teach you the secrets of their success---Kyriazi makes you believe in your own success.

As an owner of dogs, I was also able to personally understand and identify with aspects of the humane/canine bonds that were so beautifully described. I encourage anyone who loves dogs, to buy this book for themselves and as a gift for others. Each individual story is inspirational, touching, and worthy of remembering.

Sorry I waited so long to read this book

I got this book for Christmas and should have read it right away, it is wonderful. I loved every story, especially the one about Louise, the rescue dog, who rescued others. I have three dogs but I wish Louise was my fourth.

My son received this book for Chirstmas because he is a big dog lover. We all read it and loved it. We were impressed by the intelligence of the writing and the research that was done for each dog. Few books are as revealing as this.

This was a wonderful book. It tells how dogs are just as emotional as people and need to feel the love and respect they deserve. All of the stories will warm your heart.

This was such a compelling book. It really touched my heart. The people/dog relationships impact the way you think about dogs and being a dog owner. Dogs are so loving and forgiving...they don't care that we aren't perfect. This book is easy to pick up and hard to put down. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
