This is a great book for people of all ages but especially for children. The story is a heartfelt one filled with emotion that those with siblings can definitely relate to. The art work is invigorating and can tell the story on its own. Very talented author! The story makes you feel what the author was feeling. Strongly recommend.

So silly!

My 4 yr. old made us read this 100 times until she memorized it. It's a silly, exaggerated story that's loads of fun so we actually didn't mind (much). This led to her "reading" it to us several times. Now she can't wait to lose a tooth.

One negative is that the little princess does have an attitude but my dd found her funny and it didn't rub off on her in the least so we were ok with it.

Fun, Bright and Engaging

My children (three and six years old) make me read this story over and over. My three year old finishes the sentences for me and has a smile on her face the whole time! The engaging rhythm, the bright pictures and the unique story-line have brought smiles from everyone who has come across the book at our house. Small children to grandparents have had fun with our book. Megan's three year old enthusiasm and Will's six year old strategy to deal with his sister's copycat behavior make for an enjoyable read for both reader and listener. The author did a great job with the story and the illustrator made the story come to life! I highly recommend I Want One Too!

This book is delightful! The illustrations are fun to look at. The premise of the book is about a child that would rather have an iguana than a new sibling. It deals with the anger and feelings of an older child coming to grips with the new "intruder" in the home. I gave this book as a gift to my friend's daughter who loved it! She also loves her new sibling, too (finally!)

Very nice book

Our 20 month old son calls this the "Brother Book" and goes and gets it off the shelf for us to read it to him. As most of the reviews already say, this is a sweet book with a friendly approach to the impending life change. We have made all of the characters into ourselves, calling the boy in the book by our son's name. I also show him pictures of myself pregnant with him and then what he looked like after he was born and I think that between the book and the photos our son is beginning to understand that there is a new baby on the way. Certainly that something is going on in my tummy.

I was surprised by how big this book is (about 15" tall). I expected something smaller. Also, we never actually get to the end of the book as we get hung up on the ice cream at the park and get sidetracked to the freezer for ice.

Teen cynicism for normal people

This book is hilarious and incredibly well-written--it strikes me as especially good for people who have a hard time reading, or just like being able to whiz through a book in one sitting. The sentences are short, the character reminded me of every guy friend I have. I was laughing out loud through most of it. Sadly, it was over before I knew it.

We loved this book. I read the stories with my kids and we laughed out loud. The characters are perfect! The everyday, routine experiences of family life - going grocery shopping, being stuck at home on a rainy day, learning to ride a bicycle -are told with humor, and insight. Read it - you'll love it too, I bet.

Pamela is an only child and is jealous of friend Sam's seven lively brothers, so she returns home to prompt her parents to have more kids. That's when she learns about some of the problems faced by bigger families, and gains a newfound appreciation for her family's size as well as an understanding of how adoption works. A realistic story with a gentle message.

Experience the Lure of Music
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-04
Ingledove and her brother, Lang, set out to visit the grave of their mother in the mountains of the Carolinas. However, on their journey, Lang is enchanted by a mysterious music, resulting in complications that draw the children deeper and deeper into the land of Adantis. As I read Ingledove, I found myself connecting with Lang, feeling the lure of music, for me, the magical music of Youman's writing. Attempting to put the book down, I found that I, too, was hooked, needing to learn more about Adantis, the land of the Hidden People.

As with The Curse of the Raven Mocker, her first book about Adantis, Youman's writing is rich with description. Her books not only advance the plot, but they invite the poet in the reader to stop and dwell in the beauty of language.

As a middle school teacher, I'm particularly pleased to discover Marly Youman, for really fine writing is in short supply for this age reader. However, I'll not concede her writing solely to the young adult reader. This magical book will find its place on my bookshelf alongside The Curse of the Raven Mocker to be taken down and read again and again.

Loss of a Child or Sibling
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-22
This book is so packed with information, don't expect to finish it quickly. The loss that brings you to it may surface as you find yourself in the pages. Based on years of experience with bereaved indiviudals, the book stands alone as a resource for counselors and other professionals who work with the grieving. I particularly liked their exploration of the search for meaning following a loss, and the concept of resilience as being a positive factor to help in resolving loss.
