My younger daughter loves this book. As "the second princess" in our house, she often feels the same way as the second princess in this book. This book reinforces that her feelings are okay, that her actions about them may not be, and that working it out with the "king and queen" may be a better solution. My second princess and I would highly recommend this book to anyone with two (or more) daughters.

The Secret of the Two Brothers

This story takes place in West Dallas. A 21-year-old named Beaver is serving time in jail for a crime that he didn't commit. While Beaver was in jail his mother died and he knew that he had to get out of there so that he could take care of his brother!
After serving three years he finally got out and went to start his life over with his little brother (Cande). About a month had past since Beaver got out of prison and Cande and him were at a dance with some of Beaver's old friends. Before the dance was over Cande told Beaver that he wanted to go home, so Beaver let him go with his friends Margie and Richard. Later, Beaver had found out that his friends Margie and Richard and his brother got seriously injured because they were in a...
I liked this book because it was very interesting. It always left me wanting to read more. This book showed prejudice and stereotype because people thought bad and untrue things about Beaver. They thought this because he was and ex-con. I haven't read and other books by this author, but I think that I might like to considering that I liked this book so much! For more information on this book I would recommend that you read it!

Nineteen-year old Beaver Torres served time in prison for a crime he did not commit, but to save his brother, he elects to take the rap. After the hardships of prison, he is paroled and seaches for his artistically talented little brother in order to establish a life for them and provide a time for healing. He overcomes the death of his mother, his father's physical abuse toward Cande and his own fears. With the help of various neighbors and friends, as well as his female probation officer, he comes to understand the true meaning of love, honor and forgiveness. Set in the barrio/slums of West Dallas, this heart-wrencher will teach teens the importance of family, peersonal stamina and make them aware of what happens to teens who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. I used this book as a teaching tool for my sons and his friends. I will be more patient and listen more to the teens around me. Excellent reading for adults.

Jolly Good Fun

Having barely escaped from the Onts (really two giant ants who wanted to kill them), Wally and Cheyenne Shluffmuffin have no choice but to hitchhike their way back to Jolly Days Orphanage. After catching a ride with a truck driver who claims to keep a brain in his trunk, Wally and Cheyenne are happy to be back at Jolly Days but Hortense Jolly is less pleased to see them and rats them out to the Onts. Wally and Cheyenne are soon on the run again with the Onts hot on their trail. Wally and Cheyenne have to deal with getting lost in a swamp, quicksand, no food, police, and a giant spider. As if that wasn't enough, just why does that zombie look like their late father?

Taking place right after "The Onts", the first book in Dan Greenburg's Secrets of Dripping Fang series, ended, "Treachery and Betrayal at Jolly Days" is great fun. There's a nice sense of humor throughout the book which is full of odd ball characters like Verne the brain touting truck driver; Hortense Jolly; the Onts; the Zombie; a bus driver who insists on exact change because it's the law; the orphans of Jolly Days; and Edgar Spydelle who just happens to be married to a giant spider. There are also some laugh out loud gross moments, mostly dealing with the zombie. While this is a children's book and therefore most of the humor is aimed at children, there are also some especially funny moments that adults will love: the full page ad for the Jolly Days Orphanage that is in the yellow pages; policemen named Beckett and Kafka; and a small diner with an amazing menu that includes filet mignon and coq au vin. The illustrations by Scott Fischer are also very funny and readers should look closely at them for hidden jokes. At 124 pages, the book is just the right length for young readers.

"Treachery and Betrayal at Jolly Days" is jolly good fun.

I think that this book is great because it is kind of a mystery about a mythical creature. It is about three kids who move because their father died. When one of the kids lets their dog loose, she runs into the forest. When they chase after her, they find a hoofprint and the older sister is certain it is a unicorn print. She is determined to capture it and the other two kids think she is crazy.

In The Shadowed Unicorn, twelve-year-old Brendan, his irrepressible "older" twin, Nick, and their sister Ami, all struggle to cope with the sudden death of their father and the family's recent move from New York City to an old farmhouse in Pennsylvania. When Ami begins to fantasize about finding a unicorn, then discovers mysterious hoofprints in the woods, she tacks the beast to a farm owned by "the Ogre", a recluse the locals believe is responsible for the death of a child. Despite this danger, Ami insists her brothers follow her up the mountain on an adventure that puts them all in serious danger. A highly recommended and entertaining novel for school and community library collections, The Shadowed Unicorn establishes Sheila Welch as a gifted storyteller.

My husband and I are computer professionals and since we have many computers around the house we wanted to find some interactive software that would be equal to the learning provided with the Leap Frog system which can get very expensive. The Living Books series is invaluable. Sheila Rae is my 4 year old sons favorite. This software not only has an interactive story but fun games and songs AND all of it in Spanish also!! Which is immeasurable to our family because we are a mixed Spanish/American family.

I know a three-year-old and a seven-year-old who have checked this CD-ROM from the library over and over and are still not tired of it. That's why I am buying it. All of the Living Books software is high quality, but this is one of the best. Partly because of the great story about two young girls overcoming their fears by Kevin Henkes. But also because of the details of the CD-ROM version. A kid can click on just about any object on a page and see a well-though out entertaining reaction perfectly suited for youngsters but not overly simplistic. Great graphics and artwork. Highly recommended.

Sibling Revelry: 8 Steps to a Successful Adult Sibling Relat

Finally, a gentle and imaginative book about the vital, lifelong role we play in the lives of our brothers and sisters! The authors have succeeded in creating an exciting manual designed for both professionals and lay people. As a seasoned family therapist, I found the book packed with refreshing ideas and exercises presented with clarity, intelligence and humor. I felt as though the authors were personally supporting me as I sometimes struggled with the intensity of a concept and its applications to my work with a variety of clients; the authors anticipated my difficulties and, within a few pages, "guided" me through an impasse to the next level. In addition, I sent copies to my own siblings. This small act has already deepened our adult relations with each other and helped us communicate in more heartfelt ways across the miles. This guidebook is a joy to read (and implement) for anyone with a sibling who is beloved or despised, close or estranged. For family therapists, it's unquestionably a "must read."

A wonderful book on reconnecting with your adult siblings, by a team who oughta know--they're siblings themselves! I haven't seen any other books out there on the topic of grown-up siblings, and I found this to be a terrific resource as well as a good read and full of great tips and ideas.

This is a very nice little photo album. The previous review is misleading because it is describing a different photo album which is what I thought I was getting. This little book does not display African American people. It is very colorful with flower on it. I did keep it because it is very cute.

This is wonderful. I recently purchased it as a gift for both of my sisters. Everyone I've shared it with has expressed an interest in doing the same. It's fantastic to see photo albums finally displaying beautiful Black sisters! I hope the publishers print one for Mothers/Daughters; Fathers/Sons, etc. I would certainly purchase other editions.
