Would highly recommend this book for a preschool, stay at home mom, etc. Gives really good ideas if you're running out of things to do or just looking for something new.

I am a stay at home mom and like to have activities books on hand for times when creativity runs low. I looked through the pam schiller books and was impressed but they are more geared towards educators and the format wasn't as easy to read and use as a planning tool as this book and jackie silberg's book.

Review from the PostgRaduate Medical Journal

"The subject of this book, written by a general practitioner and research psychologist, is probably more pertinent today than at any other time in the past. Stress in primary health care professionals is so common that almost every general practice will have had some experience o it first hand. The book is reasonably easy to read and contain extensive analysis and references. It will therefore be particularly useful to readers who have an academic interest in stress related problems... This book will provide a useful...addition to a general practice library."- L. Tapper-Jones, Roath House Surgery

Blend of old and new

Overall a good purchase. A good number of the jokes are ones already heard before, and frankly, a lot of them aren't really that funny. But maybe that's just my personal sense of humor. . .

The thing that makes this book helpful is that it is indexed by topic. Thus, if you're looking for a joke to preface a speech or discussion, you might find this book helpful.

Nice Joke Book

This book contains 440 pages of generally short jokes arranged by topic. They are clean, ideally sized, and quite a few of them are funny. I have seen jokes in this volume that are unique, not just the same old same old (though half or so I've seen elsewhere--for me, that's a good per centage).

I have found them useful in writing newspaper editorials, preaching, and puppet skits. Lots of good church/Christian related humor.

A Worthwhile Reference

Review Date: 2001-01-21
This book provides a wide-ranging exploration of the history and traditions surrounding common (and sometimes surprising) Christian symbols of the Advent and Lenten seasons. It also contains numerous excellent suggestions for introducing these symbols into teaching and worship. In fact, so many of these suggestions are suitable for use with all ages I think it's somewhat unfortunate that the publisher chose to use "For Children" so prominently in the title, as this may unnecessarily limit the perception of how broadly useful it really is. It's worth noting that the book is written from a Catholic perspective, but again, much of the content is generally relevant across Christian traditions (I'm Methodist, myself).

In all, a fine book for those interested in learning more about how "that" came to be connected to these religious celebrations.

Great Spiritual Preparation for Christmas!
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 2004-01-02
I used this book as a daily prayer and meditation guide during this past Advent and Christmas season and loved it. Some great nuggets of Merton's wisdom are provided and coupled with Bible readings as well as daily prayers.

The selections are fantastic as are the prayers. I even used one of the prayers as "grace" during an extended family meal.

There are also a couple "formats" given for a way to incorporate the readings into a more structured group or personal reflection.

If you like Thomas Merton, you will enjoy this book as a tool in preparing and focusing on the beauty and mystery of Christmas.

An excellent reference on basic meteorology as it relates to aviation
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-05
I have very much enjoyed reading this book by Terry Lankford. I find myself frequently opening this book for clarification on how forecasts and observations are used in real-world aviation/weather situations. Terry provides numerous examples from his years of experience as a weather specialist and flight instructor. His writing style is clear and concise. Obviously, he has a firm grasp of official standards adopted by the FAA, NWS, and WMO, but he presents the information in a manner that is much more enjoyable to read than most manuals on standards from either of these organizations. I highly recommend this well-written book for anyone interested in general meteorology, or for young pilots wishing to learn more about the impact weather will have on their chosen profession.

A Comprehensive Source for Information About Bladder Cancer
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-03
The person for whom I purchased this book shortly after they were diagnosed with bladder cancer said it was extremely helpful. They would definitely recommend it. One of the reasons they liked the book was that it anticipated the questions they were asking themselves and it alerted them as to what questions they should ask their doctor. There is not a lot of literature around for this form of cancer.

Another reason they liked the book was that it explained how they would feel, what the treatment was like, what the treatment options were, and it didn't beat around the bush on what to expect in the years to come. It prepared them for the worst while emphasizing what there was to be optimistic and hopeful about. The book made them aware there are support groups, and also offered suggestions on how to discuss it with familly and friends and the variety of reactions one is likely to encounter.

This book has good information, views and techniques for those working with children and their families. This book would be helpful to school counselors, therapists and Social Workers in clinical settings, community agencies and school settings. This book would also be helpful as a textbook for students working toward a therapy degree.

Okay Book for Reading Practice - a review of "Cloudy Day, Sunny Day"
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-22
This book is listed as a Level One reader but I don't think it is really one for beginning readers. While the sentences are pretty simple, the vocabulary is a little more advanced than one might find in the `Bob Books' series for example. Words included in this book are: cloudy, gloomy, make-believe, painting, scream, and busy.

Still, for beginners with a little bit more experience it makes for nice practice. The story is simple, dealing with the fact that children can have fun regardless of the weather.

Four Stars. [B-]. One sentence per page. Fairly simple vocabulary, but probably not for readers that are just getting started. Drawings are nice.
