A "must have" for starting home care. Get it!

Review Date: 1998-10-20
When we first learned my mother who has MS was going to need home care, a friend recommended the Home Care Organizer. Without a doubt, it has been invaluable in getting us organized...a place for listing medications, physicians, appointments, and a glossary and resource guide (with Internet resources!). Being able to add pages is also a plus. Her home care agency is now considering using it as a gift to every new patient! AND...it's so affordable!

Great cookbook for whole grains and vegetables
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-15
I've really liked the recipes in this cookbook. It has recipes for cooking with whole wheat flour, brown rice, and lots of vegetables among other ideas. The whole wheat bread recipe is tasty and a little faster to make than some other recipes. Other recipes I've tried and liked are for pizza, whole wheat pancakes, potato soup, quick refried beans, salsa, cream of mushroom soup substitute, and a chicken broccoli brown rice casserole. There is also a section on healthy desserts. This cookbook is available at lovetolearn.com

The FIRST Book First-Time Parents Should Buy
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-15
Before you slap down all that hard-earned cash to figure out how to get your baby to sleep through the night or how to breastfeed or how to discipline your toddler, go get this book. It objectively and concisely evaluates all the major parenting resources, including books, videotapes audiotapes, CD-ROMs, and websites. A page is devoted to each resource reviewed, with a description of its contents and then an evaluation. There is also a handy quick-reference star rating system with a further breakdown indicating each resource's overall rating and its rating for design and ease of use. In addition, the editor includes a short bio of the author and all information needed to locate a copy of the resource, including the publisher and the ISBN. The editor doesn't espouse a particular parenting style and nonjudgmentally identifies the parenting styles advanced in the books she reviews. If you want to cut through the dizzying array of childcare and parenting manuals offered, this is an investment that will give you a great return on you money.

A helpful tool for parents as well
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-12
As the parent of my now 18-month-old daughter, I find this book to be a valuable resource in understanding infant development. Even though it is designed to help teachers build a curriculum for infants from birth to 18 months, I found the activities, the theoretical discussions and the assessment tools to be also very useful in a parent-child environment. Each chapter is content-based (me, Mommies and Daddies, Big and Little, Cars, Trucks and Trains. etc.) and provides various ideas to promote movement, literacy, music, sensory/art and curiosity. My daughter, my husband and I had tremendous fun implementing these ideas indoors and outdoors. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Excellent work/life reference guide with exercises
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-08
This collection of articles and exercises provides "cutting edge" resources in the work/family and work/life areas. The articles cover everything from flextime to recognition of the work and family issues faced by expatriates. This information is becoming more and more important in organizations throughout the world. A glance at the annual Fortune or other magazines that focus on the best companies to work for indicate the attention being focused on these issues. Interestingly new graduates are now asking these questions about the companies they are considering working for--and companies that ignore this may find themselves less able to hire the professionals they need (and the market for these folks continues to get tighter). The guide is expensive, but collecting up the work captured within it would be incredibly time-consuming and the coverage might not be as thorough. Although it is probably intended more for a human resources professional or teacher conducting training or informing employees and managers about work/life issues it could be a useful guide to assess your own ways of balancing and integrating you work and nonwork life. There could be application for a parent or church group to use the guide as well. If you hired a consultant to inform you on these issues and/or a trainer to conduct this training it would cost a lot more and you would have to bring them back again and again. One thing that was not addressed in the guide was what I will call "family friendly backlash" found in books like The Baby Boon, but I think this guide moves beyond this controversy by focusing on work AND life, not just work AND family. It is important to recognize that these are not just issues for people with small children, but issues that impact all working people.

Great Help!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-22
This wonderful activity book is for the preschool age child.
Inside you will find some great activities that will help to develop your child's skills in different areas.
Here are some examples: write one word on a large card that is an action word, such as hop. Let the child see the word and than let them hop. The Name Game is another one. Here the children sit in a circle and clap the syllables of each child's first name while saying the name aloud.
You will find this book very valuable in teaching your preschooler. It is full of great activities and the explanations of how to do the activity and why it is helpful is very parent or teacher friendly. This is a great help book and is recommended.

A Day with Daddy is a familiar story to many children. So many families today are split with one parent coming for visits with the child. I love how the Dad takes the child to do fun things and always spends quality time. A great book!
