How sad that this book is so badly needed, especially in the Christian community. But it is. Every pastor, every counselor, every Sunday School teacher, and every parent should know and understand the content of this excellent, practical, and powerful book. I'm buying a copy for my pastor.

A great book for that first dentist visit

This is a must read for any child who will be visiting the dentist for the first time. Out of all the books I surveyed, (most of them are about children loosing their teeth), this hit the mark in addressing the anxiety a child feels. While Little Bill may have some fears of his own, he gets over them after talking to his family the night before his visit. Once there, he notices a girl in the waiting room who looks scared and finds out its her first visit. In the end Little Bill helps this girl get over her fears by pretending to be a dentist himself and uses her teddy bear as the patient. My daughter and I read this book two weeks before her visit. It was a big help in setting her expectations.

Trustworthy reading for interfaith couples!

Seldom does a book come along that attempts to balance, let alone introduce, academic discipline, astute experiential insight, and gentle expression. Fr. Dr. Charles Joanides has elegantly established this unique balance in his book, "When You Intermarry: A Resource for Inter-Christian, Intercultural Couples, Parents & Families."

Joanides performed extensive research with couples that have one person akin to the Greek Orthodox Church of America. I served as the external auditor of the research, that is, I was employed to review the research analysis and findings of the author to ensure the trustworthiness of his work. The scope of his nationwide study was vast and exhaustive and I observed an honest and meticulously thorough piece of research.

The book is very readable for any audience. Each point is clearly articulated with illustrations from the people he interviewed. The reader can feel assured that the content of the book is based in good research and washed through the academic literature. I eagerly await the impact that it will have, not only within the Orthodox Church, but also on those couples who seek to apply the contents of the book to other interfaith marriages.

A "must read" for Intermarried couples!

When You Intermarry, offers excellent suggestions and guidelines for those who are either planning or are already in inter-Christian marriages. It's well written and easy to understand. We like the way it addresses all aspects of the family from premarital concerns to the complications which arise when children enter into the picture. Extended family issues can be harrowing at times -and Fr. Charles addresses this issue, as well. This work is based on research led by Fr. Charles over a 3 year period, and has a lot to offer readers. A "must read!"

This absolutely is the best textbook on the market for preparing to teach preschool children. The quality of the book reflects the author's intense dedication to early childhood as a teacher, center director, and University professor.

The book takes a much needed "how to" approach and is written in a clear and concise style. Beginning with understanding the characteristics of young children at different ages, the book is comprehensive. It includes everything you need to know to set up a creative developmentally appropriate environment; manage a classroom; plan an inviting curriculum, work with parents, etc. The hundreds of colored photographs help the reader see and understand quality indicators needed in outstanding early childhood programs. Treat yourself and order it today!

Great for Groups

I host a weekly Bible study group and this series is awesome. We love the DVD and the book helps guide discussion. Our group has enjoyed this program and we have improved our parenting because of this study and most importantly the discussions. The book is broken down into a four sections (1) icebreaker discussion (2) video questions (3) support from the Bible, and (4) applying the content. Do not expect this book to solve every behavior problem, because it won't. The book also only scratches the surface on many topics, but gives you resources on how to address problems such as the "strong-willed" child. Overall, the book has 2 primary principles: Love and Control.

THE resource to all the benefits due to military families

For military families who are facing real hardships, this book is like a dictionary of resources and benefits that can help them. For instance, if your family has a service member who is deployed, you can find things like your legal rights, medical benefits, who can help you when your car breaks down and your finances are low, resources for emergencies. If you are just coping with the normal daily challenges of military family life, you can learn how to shop smarter; get a better education or a better job; rent, buy, or live in military housing; even ways to get healthier and have fun, while saving for the future. I wish I could give this book to every military family I know.

A worthy effort as there are many things to hate about pregnancy (excepting the inception, of course). I wish I'd had this book circa November 2000 as it probably would've cheered up my tubby, pregnant spouse who was all but shotgunning out my 7th youngster (by a 5th bride!) and was basically angry as a half-drunk one-legged black bear (and darn near as big). Better late than never, I suppose.

Even though I have been around many babies I gained a lot from reading this book. It was great how my husband (who has zero experience with babies) and I both learned things from the author's easy to read style of writing. I recommend getting a copy of this book for yourself as well as one for anyone you know who is pregnant or who just had a baby because if you lend it out you won't be getting it back!

This book helped us adopt our daughter
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-28
I initially found this book in our local library in early 1994. I then ordered a copy of my very own so that I could write notes in the edges and make notations in the margins. I used this book to find agencies that had parameters that we were looking for: location, price for adoption services(we are not rich), and average waiting times. I mailed many of the agencies in the book and we recieved many, many referrals. One of them lead to the adoption of our daughter in October 1994. She is now eight, and the joy of our lives. My only regret is that there has been no updated version of this book as we are tring to adopt another child and updated information would be sooooo helpful.
