Disabled Books

What a great book! Very easy to read and very honest stories about individuals who have had been in the special education system. Some stories made me laugh, some made me cry, but most of all, it made me rethink the views I had about people with disabilities. It's a great airplane read or summer read. I hope you love it as much as I did.

Many people in the dwarfism community, as well as those in the disability, human rights, and social sciences communities have been eagerly awaiting publication of this book. The finished product is well worth the wait: Adelson's thoroughness, expertise, and committment are clear. This volume includes a social history of dwarfs, as well as contemporary portraits, medical information, dwarfs in the arts, etc., making the book comprehensive, absorbing, and readable for those interested in social history or cultural studies. Meanwhile, when I read it I found myself asking, "Why in the world has no one done this before?" Kudos to the author and publisher of this important text.

Used it for a Capstone paper for my Batchelors degree. It was priceless. Excellent information and well written

Dr. Upham gives an insightful perspective into her life with learning disabilities. She proves there are no limits for those with disabilites. She is as wonderful an author as she is professor!!

I learned about this author from a poster on exlegionaries.com, an erstwhile discussion forum repressed by the powerful and litigious Legion of Christ recently in Alexandria City, VA, circuit court.
When comparing "spirituality" and spiritual writers and knowing of my "liberal bias" s/he came up with Vanier. He is the founder and director of L'Arche, an apostolate which creates homes for adults with Learning Problems and Mental Retardation [correct me if I am wrong]
I bought the book because of its title, and it does not disappoint. This is no banal discussion of sex or easy spiritual sublimating cop-outs.
In describing his experience and testimony with people with Mental Impairments he explains how his communities cope with and educate these people's sexual challenges.
He is quite orthodox in his view of Human Sexuality and does not condone masturbation and other practices as often happens in this field. What is wonderful and refreshing is how he places their -our! - sexuality in the human context of caring, affection, love, family and community.
In so doing he gives a refleshing vision of sexuality and love in a Humanistic, Christian, and even Catholic way.
His explanation and testimony of celibacy is a must read for all those who believe in that charism as well as those called to holistic marriage.

A great resource for examples of interventions and strategies needed to help close the gaps of achievement for struggling learners.

I found this book to have a wealth of practical examples for all the basic maths areas where dyslexic students may have problems. The examples were explained in simple terms, with resource ideas and references at the end.

this book, i believe, broung out the the inner feelings of maya so incredibly well that i read this over and over again. truly the best book of the decade

Everything for the home care therapist & nurse I needed to know is in this great well researched book.
