This is a wonderful book by a British Funeral Director. Even though funerals are serious business, even there you can find moments of mirth that even the deceased would appreciate. I loved this book and highly reccomend it!

Excellent indepth view of the lives of twin siblings who struggle as young adults to adulthood with who they are. The challenge with low self-esteem follows them to college and into adulthood as they fight to declare a sense of self. Honesty and candor within this book makes for a good read into the lives of twins on a journey of self discovery. Excellent for young adults and adults alike, who have ever had problems adjusting to the rejections, disappointments, and daily issues of life and how to overcome.

Skey's suicide attempt lands her in a mental institution. While she dreams she finds herself in a dark tunnel with carvings on the wall. She meets a boy in this "dream" and begins telling him stories of the carvings. In the real world she enters her school again and her boyfriend trigger (a gang member of the Dragons) is pressuring her for sex. Soon she begins to remember the gang rape that happened to her.
I've been waiting since february for this book and I have to tell you this is the first time the book has been worth the wait. It's the best book I've read in a long time.

This beautiful book was surprising in so many ways. How can something so brutal in its honesty about suicidal urges and bereavement be so comforting? "Death is not the opposite of life; the opposite of death is birth," she writes. "Life has no opposite. It is a constant, like the universe. Suicide solves nothing." Amazing stuff.

This landmark volume honors the 100th anniversary of the publication of Emile Durkheim's milestone book, Le Suicide, often described as one of the three most important works ever written in the social sciences. Lester and the 16 contributors evaluate and reassess the great French sociologist's contributions to social and behavioral science in the light of present-day knowledge and assumptions. Readers who wonder whether Durkheim is still relevant today, whether his work has stood the test of time, will not want to miss this centennial treasury.

Envy is one of the great American short novels

In 'Envy, or Yiddish in America' Ozick tells the story of a world, the world of those immigrant poets and writers in Yiddish who struggled to make a name in the New World and got nowhere. Against them is her main character, the one Yiddish writer who succeeds in an unbelievable way and whose works conquer America. This leading character is modeled obviously on the great I.B. Singer . In the story the other writers call him 'The Chazir ' or pig , not only because of his non- religious life style but obviously because he takes all the honors and rewards for himself. Ozick captures the language of this world, and its humor , the angry impossible humor of the Yiddish language itself. She writes with feeling of these frustrated difficult characters. This work I believe will be specially loved by writers but my guess is anyone who truly loves ' real literature' will find much pleasure in reading this work.

Two of the most reknowned scholars in bioethics have assembled a high quality collection of scholarly material which is a necessary resource for those seriously engaged in bioethical inquiry concerning death. Many facets of the issue of death and dying are treated: the definition of death, ethics of euthanasia, how we should care for the dying, etc. It is a most up-to-date text which continues the 25-year-old heated discussion into the mechanics and meaning of human death.

I'm currently writing an honors thesis debating suicide's justification, and this is the best suicide book I've ever read. Battin has condensed milleniums of suicide history and philosophy into 240 beautiful, comprehensive pages. Her book is a must for anyone interested in suicide.
