This book is an update of the 1991 edition and is intended to present resources for use by professional media concerned with
accurately reporting the issues and concerns of Native Americans. A group of six essays is followed by a media reference guide
of Indian Nations, Federal Indian Agencies, National Indian Organizations and a glossary of terms and questions that will
be of particular interests to journalists writing about American Indians.

This is a fabulous and compelling study of the complex relation between technology and modern religious faith. The book crosses
multiple disciplines including media studies, religious studies, and sociology. If you are interested in understanding the
development of American Protestantism in the 20th century this book is for you. It is well written and suitable for undergraduates,
graduate students, and the general reader. Probably the best book on American religion that I have read.

Excellent book. We all may need to rethink some things.

So many things are presented to us as truth. We never question. The author has studied and researched deeply into subjects
that we as the general public are just too lazy to dig into or maybe we don't want to rock the boat. The truth would change
too many thing and we are afraid of change. Be prepared to rethink the time of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Look at it for yourself with information that you didn't have access to before. The resurrection is valid, its just the
time that it took place is questioned. Separate from the resurrection information, the book also includes astounding information
on astrology that undermines all basis for its validity. Every astronomer knows the stars are not in the exact place they
were a thousand or so years ago. Much of the public knows and astrologers know that the personal zodiac signs that we are
supposedly under today are not correct. Some have done the math and proved it, yet we still accept it as its presented to
us, although it's a false sign. As a Bible student and I'm also interested in astronomy, I found this book fascinating.
I'm ordering 2 more copies for friends.

Animals & Men is the regular magazine of the British-based monster-hunting group, the Center for Fortean Zoology. Articles
in the magazine regularly cover such issues as Bigfoot, lake monsters, the Yeti, sea serpents, and more bizarre entities such
as werewolves and dragons.
The earlier issues of the magazine are becoming harder and harder to find; so to have them now available in a superbly packaged production is a very welcome development.
If you haven't seen these gems in their original format, now is the time to see what you have missed. You won't be disappointed.

"Apple Dumplin's Day" is a board book all about Strawberry Shortcake's little sister, Apple Dumplin'. What a great idea! Each
page is just a sentence or two, each working well with the delightful pictures. The description on the back of the book describes
it as "adorable" and that'll get no argument from me. Overall, this is a great book for any "Strawberry Shortcake" or Apple
Dumplin' fan. It covers everything from morning wakeup, to a wagon ride, a tea-party, and being tucked in at night. You also
get to see Apple Dumplin's pet, Apple Ducklin'.

I have known Christopher Janney for 20 years and have had the fortune to assist him on many of his amazing public art projects.
The great thing about his art is that it literally transforms the spaces and the people who come into contact with it. It
is an instant party wherever his work goes up whether it is on the steps of the Met, the Herald Square subway platform, or
the Miami airport. This book is a must have for any serious, public artist, student, architect or fan. Get it now!!!

A brilliant work of cultural history and critical theory

Review Date: 2008-07-26
This is a beautifully written, masterfully argued, deeply sophisticated book. It tracks how nineteenth century culture marshaled
rituals of and ideas about grief both to serve and to contest an increasingly linear, racialized, heterosexualized, and Christianized
national-political time. Luciano argues that even as the culture of mourning aimed to channel the newly permitted emotional
"excess" of lament for lost loved ones into a liberal ideology of a shared humanity moving forward in time, the wayward grief
and bereavement rituals of women, Native Americans, and people of African ancestry signaled other ways of conceiving of and
living in both time and history. It's a story about the Anglo-American nineteenth century, about modernity writ large, and
about possibilities for thinking politically in our own time.
It might be hard going for non-academics, as each sentence is a gold mine of ideas--I'm a college professor and have spent about two hours per chapter reading and taking notes-- but it is worth every minute spent on it. I won't belabor its sophisticated work with Marxist, deconstructionist, psychoanalytic, feminist, and queer theory, but it's all there and amazingly coordinated within a convincing, elegant, deeply original argument. Amazingly, it's a FIRST book, but it's as good as most people get over the course of a long career. If you are a nineteenth-century historian or literary critic, an anthropologist of death ritual, a psychoanalytic theorist, or an educated reader who loves a gorgeous challenge, buy this book.

"So, Who's My Dad Today?"

Review Date: 2005-12-19
"Arthur and the 1,001 Dads" is another in a series of great Arthur TV Storybooks written by Stephen Krensky. In this story,
based on a fourth-season "Arthur" television story, Arthur and his friends are worried because it seems that once again, Buster
will not be attending the annual Elwood City Father's Day Picnic. (Which, like most "all Elwood City" events, seems to include
only Arthur and his friends and family, even though Elwood City is known to be a very large town.) Buster's Mom and Dad are
divorced and so he doesn't get to see much of his Father. (That is, until "Postcards from Buster" came along, but this was
written rather before then.
Arthur and his friends are stumped about how to help Buster, until they decide to seize upon an idea of D.W.'s that Arthur had previously considered rather dopey. If Buster's own father can't attend the picnic, they'll get him a replacement father, just for that day. This leads to a series of comic misadventures in which they try to find father-substitutes for Buster. Meanwhile, Buster grows more and more irritated at their attempts, as he's told them repeatedly that he has plans, but they just don't listen, especially Arthur.
The following may be slightly spoilerish, but really doesn't give away too much:
There are a few differences between this story and what's shown on TV, but nothing that hurts the story in any way. They mainly revolve around the things that Arthur and his friends try in getting Buster a replacement Dad. In the TV show, the Arthur gang attempts to get Pickles the clown to be Buster's temporary Dad. In the book, they consider the clown idea, but discard it because they feel it would make Buster stick out. Also, in the TV show, the Brain builds the LLAF (life-like automated father) out of parts from the cat he used to trick "Buster - Cat Saver" in a previous episode. In the book, it's called RALF (clever, could be pronounced like "Ralph") and although Buster mentions he built it from a project he was working on, there is no direct-reference to Cat Saver.
Overall, another great Arthur TV storybook offering from Stephen Krensky. Serious and poignant at times, but also with much of the show’s trademark humor.
