U. S. MARSHALS, BORN & BRED --#1 - GILLIAN LOGUE
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-19
U.S. Marshal, Gillian Logue finally gets out from behind a desk and into the field.
She has been sent to guard Joe Morgan, who has been hard to find - she can't believe she actually begged her boss, William Bennett for this assignment.
Joe has been on the run since his wife and four U. S. Marshals had been killed almost two years ago. He gave up his comfort and life to keep his daughter, Maghan safe.

Joe is reclusive and unco-operative at first. He doesn't want the woman here on his Island.
Gillian wants to prove to her father, Vince and big brothers that she can handle a job as well as they. Her dad, Caleb, Beau and Adam just want to keep her safe. [another one of these female hang-ups].

Joe gives her a rough time at first, then slowly crumbles under her charm.
Setting just off of Joe's island is the cabin cruiser with Deputy U.S. Marshal Neil Kavorski and his partner, Brimmer. Team Two was on the other side of the island, Wesson and Finch.

Then Bud, the dog fell into a cave - rescue next - then strange things began to happen around the cabin - muffins disappeared etc., - trouble was that the hormones started to interfer with the sense of self-preservation. And then the women want to know why they can't work with men. Ha!

Well, the subtle action starts to pick up - the danger increases - then the escape - great plot. Even on the run the hormones finally win out.

Loved the reunion of Gillian with her father and brothers. Great!
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED -pms - a really enjoyable read. [4 to the set].

The US Marshal Service assigns rookie Deputy Gillian Logan to protect witness Joe Morgan, whose wife and four marshals were murdered by a drug lord last year, but the killer Tsun-Chung, who was released on a technicality, faces a new trial shortly. Joe rejects her offers to keep him safe as he blames her agency for his wife's death. Gilliam ignores him while she also tries to help Joe cope with his grief and guilt that his spouse is dead while he lives and that he misses their daughter Meggie who is safely away from him.

However, his guilt rises as he finds he desires the federal agent; she reciprocates his deep feelings. While he assumes he has a biological need, she fears she is not doing her job by falling for the client she is supposed to keep safe.

The key to this fabulous romantic suspense thriller is the lead protagonists as fans will understand what motivates Gillian, whose three older brothers are marshals and so she feels born and bred to the job. The story line is action-packed from the moment that Gillian believes in SAVING JOE in spite of his anger and resentment and never decelerates until the final climax. Readers will fully enjoy the latest US Marshals' thriller.

Heartwarming story of dealing with loss and bitterness.

After months of studying, U.S. Marshal Gillian Logue finally has her first field assignment. This is the assignment that will help her prove to her overprotective father and three older brothers that she is capable enough to do something with her life besides becoming a wife and mother. Of course, the man she is sent to protect is exceedingly reclusive, and has been ever since the murder of his wife. Finally tracing him to an island he owns off the Oregon coast, which just happens to be very close to where Gillian grew up, Gillian is dropped off there with a tent and enough supplies to last her two weeks. She has to watch this man and protect him for two weeks until the trial of the drug lord who killed his wife.

Ever since his wife was murdered, Joe Morgan has lived his life on the run. In order to protect his daughter, he left her with her maternal grandparents in Los Angeles, knowing they have the money to keep her safe. Of course, if Joe hadn't gotten involved in this case to begin with, his wife never would have been murdered and he would still have his family. It's been two years now and Joe still holds himself responsible. He finally ended up here on his island off the Oregon coast with only his daughter's dog for company, which is how Joe wants it.

When Joe finds Gillian on his island, he can't believe it and is ready to run again. Constantly fighting the attraction between them, Gillian eventually begins tearing the down the walls Joe has erected.

Will Gillian be able to prove herself with this assignment? Will the two of them fight the attraction, or eventually give into it? Will Joe ever get over the loss of his wife and be reunited with his daughter? Will Gillian be able to keep Joe safe and deliver him to the trial?

SAVING JOE is a wonderful story of dealing with loss and bitterness. Laura Marie Altom has done a wonderful job of bringing her characters to life, including all the baggage they've been carrying. We have Joe dealing with the guilt of his wife's murder and trying to reconcile himself to her loss. On the other hand, we have Gillian dealing with her feelings of never being good enough to do what she wants with her life. Not only do these two individuals deal with each other's baggage, they're also surrounded by danger. This is a wonderful little story, complete with heartfelt sigh at the end and I highly recommend reading it.

Scientist have a responsibility to inform the public, otherwise we risk to let science degrade to whatever politicians and Hollywood want to portray. This book will help any scientist to deal with the press in a practical way: get to know some important jargon, know how media works and what they expect from a scientist.
The book also includes several examples of scientific discoveries that were completely misunderstood by the media with an analysis of what went wrong. Just keeping this in mind will keep this sort of situations to a minimum.
I've dealt with the press on a few occasions, I wish I had read this book before that. I feel I'm more prepared for the next time. Prepare yourself and don't leave science education to movies.

Outside of journal articles and student papers, my reading list is extremely limited. A Scientist's Guide to Talking with the Media is not the sort of book that is likely to make that list. Nevertheless, having received several recommendations from colleagues, and forced into convalescence while recovering from surgery, I picked up a copy of the book and was pleasantly surprised. The writing was crisp and entertaining, and still the book was relatively fluff-free. Though I generally don't think the public would be interested in my rather esoteric research, this book made me realize that I do have a lot to offer on many topics that are covered by the press, particularly relating to environmental issues and evolution. In fact, I finished the book inspired to be less reclusive and I now relish the opportunity to serve as a source to the media, even if it is something as minor as scientific advisor to the local Woolly Worm Festival.

Beyond communicating with the media, this book offers practical advice on summarizing one's research work for non-technical audiences. That skill comes up more and more frequently in grant writing, as organizations such as the NSF require you to explain the significance or your proposed work to a general audience (i.e., broad significance statements). Some journals also ask that you write "press releases" to accompany your article submission. I will definitely be referring to this book repeatedly for these purposes, even if I chicken out regarding reaching out to the media. In short, this is a wonderfully written, entertaining, and to-the-point book that I think just about any scientist would be the better for reading.

A must for scientists trying to get the word out

In the past four years I have been contacted many times to give interviews regarding earthquakes in Southern California. I wish I have had this book when I started!!!

This book should be read by any scientist that wants to transmit his ideas more clearly to a non-scientific audience.
It is very straightforward, with many hints on how to do well in interviews or press releases.
The book has many examples of actual interviews that help you understand what works best when you have to convey a message in a very brief amount of time.
It helps you tremendously to understand how the media works and what it expects from the scientist.

Even if you are not directly dealing with a news agengy, this book is very good because it shows you how you can organize your ideas in a way that you could transmit them to people not working on your field.

In this Scooby-Doo Adventure, Scoob and the gang find themselves at Sandy Cove, an ocean resort where Daphne's Aunt Maggie and Uncle Murray live. The gang has come to help Daphne's family with Frye Fest, a local celebration in honor of the pirate Captain Horace P. Frye, to help raise money for the town. A big city developer is in the area and is buying up all sorts of land. Then the Ghost of Captain Frye raises from the sea and threatens to wreck Frye Fest. Something smells fishy, but if Scoob and the gang want to save Sandy Cove, they have to work fast and unmask the ghost. Good story.

Very young readers will delight in this lavishly illustrated book about Ariel and her friend, Flounder, in a game of hide and seek with a baby seal. The fun concludes with Ariel's rescue of her little friend who had been hiding in a clam shell and got stuck!

Simple sentences and recognizable words for early readers add to the enjoyment of the story. Artwork worthy of the name Disney bring this charming little book to life!

This 29-page, lavishly illustrated book features Ariel--the beloved Mermaid from the Disney movie The Little Mermaid. Flounder makes an appearance in Sealed with a Kiss, as does Scuttle the bird.

Sealed with a Kiss is a Step 2 Step Into Reading book. Step 2 books target kids Preschool-Grade 1, focusing on basic vocabulary, short sentences, and simple stories. Step 2 books are for those children that are now reading with help, so if a child recognizes familiar words on sight and can sound out new words with help, then Step 2 would be just right for them.

Ever since we went to Disneyworld in August 2006, my son has been smitten with Ariel. Now that the Platinum edition DVD of the Little Mermaid is out, he's even MORE so!

When I saw Sealed with a Kiss, I knew my son would love it. The illustrations are awash with vibrant color--it's the most colorful book he owns, I think! The print is rather large, which is great, and because the sentences are rather short, the frustration level for reading is kept at a minimum.

If you're looking for an engaging story that helps children read, Sealed with a Kiss is an *excellent* choice. Beautiful illustrations, eye-popping color, simple sentences, and familiar characters make this book a winner!

I had the pleasure to meet Derrick after he gave a conference in the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City, and a couple of days later I was reading his book. I was just amazed. Later I wanted to compare it with Negroponte's Being Digital and, believe me, they are similar but not the same. Don't get me wrong: both are nice books, fun and understandable, but you should begin with De Kerckhove --I don't really know why, but I felt that The Skin of Culture had a wider vision of the New Media. As a reader I want to have a good time with a book (I'm an hedonist, what can I say). Even when I'm not an academic kind of guy, I found this book pretty enjoyable --a damn good discovery. As an editor, I have to say that everyone who is or wants to be a journalist must read it. Thanx to Alfredo Troncoso for being the person who introduced me to Derrick De Kerckhove's work.

I bought this book for my daughter age 9 1/2. She NEVER asks for a book, so I said fine. She read the book IN THE STORE. She loved it. Of course the jokes are goofy, but she loved them. It got her to read a book without it being like a trip to the dentist's office, so I say it was money well spent. A definite best-buy for Spongebob fans who hate to read. I plan to buy more of Spongebob's humor books.

This little book (43 pages, not including title page, and so forth) was a great big hit with my son. Each page contains one or two wonderful black-and-white drawings of SpongeBob or one of the other Bikini Bottom gang, and a couple of jokes. The reading level is right on for Ages 4-8, and the jokes are funny enough to entertain older SpongeBob fans! My son bought this book with his own money, and he considers it money well spent. We both recommend this book to you.

While the story's tend to be a little lenghy and are by no mean for beginner readers they do offer good morals and values. The pictures are great and my daughter likes to make up her own story to the pictures. I would recommend any Strawberry Shortcake book.
