For those of you with a passing interest or a passion for Kundalini this is the book to read. It covers every aspect of Kundalini and is written by a Western author so it is quite easy reading.

Also anyone having any kind of Spiritual Awakening should read this book.

Even though the books title doesn't show it, this is the best book I have read on Kundalini so far.

Good basic reference on Kundalini awakening.

A Father Shore is an engaging personal, clinical, and scholarly report on Kundalini phenomena.

Though both Dr. Yvonne Kason and Teri Degler have nominal Christian backgrounds, as of this writing they appear to be influenced more by New Age and Hindu philosophy than by Scriptural Christianity in their treatment of spiritual awakening and personal transformation experiences. I recommend their book as a basic, practical introduction to the physiological, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social factors associated with Kundalini. But the authors appear to have lost their moorings in the Biblical doctrines of creation, sin, redemption, and restoration. The book is adrift with doctrines of evolution and reincarnation.

The reader must decide whether the human body was created by God to be a temple of God or whether it is a product of cosmic evolution now acquiring god-like powers. If evolution, then self-realization is the ultimate goal. Never mind that the Second Law of Thermodynamics dictates devolution and death for everything in this physical universe, unless information and energy are added from a higher-dimensional source. If creation, then as Jesus said we must be born again from above in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Dr. Kason's adult near death experience and Ms. Degler's adolescent spiritual awakening have much in common with what the Bible calls being "baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 1:5). In that Kundalini is known as "serpent power," it is unfortunate that the leaders of the Church of Canada had not taught the authors how to distinguish more clearly between the Word of God and the lies of the devil. Jesus teaches about kundalini as "streams of living water" (John 7:39). We have to decide whether to employ this God-given human potential in the service of Christ or Antichrist, God or the devil.

The book's teachings and conclusions about the importance of a balanced life style for "healthy spiritual transformation" are of great value. But the universalism of the final sentence concerning "a bright and glorious future for us all" denies the reality of evil. To save those who love God and one another from the devastations of sin and death, Jesus Christ must come again in power and great glory to destroy those who are destroying the earth and establish the kingdom of God. A bright and glorious future for the children of God to be sure--"But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie" (Revelation 22:15).

This book is very well researched and friendly and accessible in its style. It dymystifies the topic of kundalini and makes it understandable from a Western point of view. The author has kundalini experiences herself, as well as being an excellent scientific researcher. Thank you!

This book is easy to miss as a kundalini guide because its title does not indicate this aspect of its content. The author, an MD, has assisted large numbers of people in kundalini processes and has a wealth of information to offer that is very valuable to anyone wanting/needing to learn about a kundalini experience. She is a medial doctor with a vast knowledge of spiritual phenomena. In my experience, people with spontaneous arisings are helped a great deal by this perspective which integrates Eastern and Western understandings.

Among the best Kundalini books.

The Gaurdian was simply amazing. I read this book a year ago and I couldn't put it down. It's creepy and "out there" from the very start. When I first brought this book home I hid it from my mom....it's not exactly a cuddly Sunday school story, after all;-)
The first books of the Forbidden Doors series are great. After The Encounter the books start to lag in excitement. They lack the magical, draw-you-in quality this book has. When I read them I felt as robbed as the original Star Wars fans did by The Phantom menace. Ah, but that's a different story.

Awsome!!!!!

This was a well-rounded book. The perfect book for teens battling spiritual warfare. If you are a teen, read this book! I am a teenager myself, so this is from a teens point of view. It is very profound, especially when it comes to Julie dealing with the demon controlling her. But it can be a little intense. I wouldn't recommend this book to kids under 12. If you like horror books, but can't get your hands on them heathen horror stories, pick up the whole Forbidden Doors series today!

This book is absolutley great. It works on so many levels... and all the while staying true to its Christian roots. I remember reading this book in 6th grade (I am a Sophmore now) and not being able to put it down. It just grabs you and pulls you into this deep and compeling story. Everything works so well because it is coming from a Christian point of view and it makes you see God's power through the characters. It also is a very chilling book, and doesn't let a horror fan down. While the content actually can get very morbid at times (alot of talk of death and the after life, plus a girl floating above her bed ala Exorcist). It scared me in 6th grade and I was already a vey big horror fan, and I rarely got scared by a book. If you are a Christian (or interested in Christianity) pick this book up. It shows that you can be way out there and still be a Christian.

It is a very good book.

Laurie Conrad's beautifully descriptive words flow from each page directly into the heart of the reader. You are taken into her world where you meet her friends and stroll the streets of Ithaca, New York with her, as she tells of clairvoyant experiences beyond life and death that touch the soul. This is a book filled with wondrous stories of love and light, all of them giving the assurance that what we call "death"--the leaving behind of our earthly form--is actually an entrance into a new realm. Laurie's clairvoyance and clairaudience have given her entrance into that realm, whereby she has remained in contact with many of her dear friends.

Laurie's gifts are many; she is a composer and a concert pianist as well as a healer, and she has a lightness of energy that permeates the pages of her book. Uplifting, humorous, touching, inspiring -- her words capture the reader and make you feel as though you are there, right beside her, as she interacts with her friends, many of whose photos are included in the book. You feel as though you know Laurie--and her friends--through the love that shines through her writing. One of the most beautiful things she describes is an overwhelming feeling that came over her when she was in a bad auto accident, with a bystander trying to help her in those first moments after the accident. As she looked into the eyes of this man bending over her, she felt his love and compassion for her. "And in that moment I knew, I knew completely and to the depths of my being--that the only important thing here, in this reality, is Love, the Higher Love, the Divine Love that each creature should have for every other creature here on Earth. Nothing else matters, nothing else truly exists here. Nothing else here is truly Real or Eternal--only the Soul and its vast Love."

Reading Laurie's book is like taking an inspirational journey from which you return uplifted and joyfully aware that what she says in another passage is absolutely true: "...we are all connected, human heart to human heart and hearts from realm to realm." As you read her book, you realize we are always in touch with our loved ones, whether they are on earth or in the Realms of Light. You understand the truth of her statement, "There is a constant interweaving of Hearts, both here on Earth and from realm to realm."

I am writing this review on what would have been my daughter's 50th birthday. She left the earth many years ago in an auto accident, but I feel her presence always within my own heart. I can speak from my own experience to the truth that is contained in Laurie's book of assurance and light.

Realms of Light exposes a world I didn't know existed. Laurie's stories about people she knew that she saw traveling into realms filled with radiant light after they had "died" were believable amd wondrous. She tells remarkable stories in a humble unassuming way.
It's hard to find words to say how I felt reading her books. There's a child-like innocence to the world she describes. It pulled me back to the innocence of my belief in God and the love I had for Jesus and Mary as a young child. She describes miracles as the daily event. This is the stuff that saints are made of yet she is an ordinary person, a concert pianist and composer.
Her words carry a power that triggers memories of events or people that need attention for forgiveness or healing.
After I finished Realms of Light I ordered The Spiritual Life of Plants and Animals. I absorbed it in one sitting. It made praying real and opened my eyes to the inner life of plants and animals. I'm amazed how aware all of life is. After reading these books I will never be the same. My life is changed.

I keep my copy on the table beside my "reading chair" and refer to it often - the stories are so real and compelling, and the characters completely true-to-life - people we have all met, or would love to meet.

I have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone - it's a keeper!!

I love this book! - it is just wonderful! It flows beautifully, from Laurie's own experiences with clairvoyance to her interviews with other people about their experiences. A very inspiring and important book for anyone who has lost a loved one, be it parent or pet. The book has given me a new perspective on my own grieving, and offers the reader a look at what may be happening beyond our physical realm. I felt a great sense of calm while reading - almost like a meditation. I highly recommend this book

Mr. Boldman has skillfully created a readable, well-researched text that will benefit both clinical professional and lay readers who are interested in learning more about the near-death experience and its impact on the individual. He offers hope and assurance via authentic case studies and research sources. He utilizes story telling techniques that address basic human doubts and fears and in this way reveals the possibility of a pathway to becoming based on love. In my many years of hospice work, I have wished for such a work to share with frightened patients and their families, particularly when they could no longer remain in denial of a terminal diagnosis. There is no doubt that this book will stimulate thought and for many bring comfort as it sharpens their awareness on the journey to knowing. By looking at death, the author brings us full circle to the study of life.

from Yoga Journal: July/August 1999

This great mystery at the heart of the human condition fuels our curiosity and unease; it also makes bestsellars out of some books which pander to popular interest by recylcing generic tales of being surrounded by light and flooded with a pervasive feeling of love. Now a slim volume by a small publisher has contributed something noteworthy to the literature. Robert Boldman had a NDE himself at five, and in the decades since has devoted himself to understanding the transition between life and death, through his work with the dying and his study of various wisdom traditions, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism, and Christianity. He now sees the NDE "more as a revelation on the way to live rather than solely a vision of death," for, as he notes, "the voices of countless near-death survivors (tell us) to infuse every act in our life with love. What the NDE teaches us, Boldman writes, is that "in the transition from life to death, all spiritual wisdom is briefly exposed, inviting us to reunite our inner self with the divine. This idea is examined most starlingly in a chapter on "shabd yoga," a form of meditation which he says, "teaches us the art of self-willed death for the purpose of bringing one closer to God." Throughout the book, which is refreshingly free of facile answers and pop-psychology platitudes, Boldman offers an erudite yet engaging meditation on knowing the "something" of which the mystical poet Kabir said, "He who knows it,/will never die;/He who knows it not,/dies again and again."

I was immediately intrigued by this book's title and cover. Its scope is
daunting, and I was skeptical that Ms. Corzine could bring together so many perspectives, but she boldly tackles its wide-ranging topic with verve and studiousness.

Not being a scientist myself, I appreciated the way she laid out the path of modern science - where it has been and where it has progressed.
Step-by-step, the author deftly documents the story of conventional Western study and thinking. However, the strength of the text is not the study of mainstream conventions and research, but the look beyond. Far from being a dry monograph, The Secret Life of the Universe aptly illustrates the interconnectedness of science and philosophy by encompassing a myriad of perspectives. The text challenges one to reconsider how the world is perceived.

This is a cautionary tale - a poignant reminder that we must take heed of
forces greater than ourselves and examine the road less travelled, the
pathway forgotten. The voice of the author, both professorial and
anecdotal, is ideally pitched to draw upon a mosaic of professional and
personal resources. Perceptive and timely, Ms. Corzine should be applauded for her latest effort. A reader with an open mind will be encouraged to find that science may indeed have a soul if we know where to look.

Since reading it, I find that I am looking at the world in an entirely new
way. Isn't that the point of her book? If so, she has achieved total
success. I can't wait to reread it.

A rough guide to the universe.

As if to illustrate her main point, the interconnectedness of all things,
Amy Corzine moves in great leaps and bounds across the interface between the science of the material universe, and the science of the soul. Taking her lead from writers such as Fritjof Capra, she creates a guide to the new ways of seeing the world that are current amongst thinkers at the present time, all those many concepts of which we have heard, or of which we are just faintly aware. A book about ideas might become abstract and hard to read, but Amy recognises that we think with our emotions and all our being, and so each idea is told succinctly, and connected with a personality or anecdote that holds it in the memory. Her wonderfully eclectic mind keeps us guessing where she will take us next, but wherever she goes, she comes across with a real heartfelt passion for her subject.

Amy Corzine's The Secret Life of the Universe is an amazing accomplishment (with extensive bibliography), connecting the human experience with the universe as a whole, especially that part of it which touches us... including, and perhaps most especially that which lies beyond our typical sensory perceptions... to compare the similarities of a more time-tested spiritual (across all mystical and religious spectra) view with a more recent scientific one. In doing so, she captures a common sense of universality in all things, with various perspectives merging beautifully to show a most magical world /universe in both simple and complex terms, and offers a clear and useful view of how we as humans can make the most of our place in this wondrous world and the universe beyond and around us. Very empowering and comprehensive! An easy must-read for anyone interested in the inner workings of life on earth.

I started worrying about death and found this book in a store. I read through it and found it really well balanced. Craig HP presents a clear view of our spiritual self in a very persuasive way. What I liked the most about the book was that he did not espouse any specific view of the afterlife, only that there is one. In those rare occasions where he does, the book lost its grip on me for a bit. It is however the more 'neutral' book on the subject that I have been fortunate to read and it changed my view on my spiritual life for good. Highly recomended.

Review from Psychic News the UK's Spiritualist Newspaper

Psychic News has been following the career of the mediums Craig and Jane Hamilton-Parker for many years now and we have enjoyed watching them progress from television psychics for the Big Breakfast to the international recognition they enjoy today. We are particularly interested in seeing how Craig is making a big splash in the USA. Just before Christmas he appeared on American television to talk about his best selling books which are selling in the region of 150,000 copies a year. The Americans just love his easy to understand approach to mediumship.

Craig's latest book has just been released in the UK and is titled "What to do when you are dead" Not surprisingly, it has already been awarded the 'best title of year' by a leading American magazine. Now it is set to take the UK market by storm. "The title may sound a little silly to some people," says Craig "but it is serious Spiritualism that is packaged in a way that will appeal to a wide range of people. I really enjoy reaching out to ordinary people with our message of hope that is based upon the empirical evidence of mediumship. Serious students of mediumship are of course inspired by the Spiritualist classics but nowadays many of these are too weighty for the beginner. At the same time, there are many books on the American market that make my blood boil, as they are pure fantasy without any substance to back up their fantastic claims. I hope my books can present sensible ideas about the afterlife to a somewhat bewildered public in a spirit of cheerfulness and compassion.

'What to do when you are dead' is not fantasy. It is based on information revealed through proven spirit communicators and from those who have had near-death experiences. Its Spiritualist inspired ideas are also complimented by mystical teachings from Eastern traditions. You will come away with answers to many questions about life and death including:

How do you know you are dead?
Will I be able to contact loved ones left behind?
Do guardian angels exist?
What happens when someone dies suddenly?
Can I will myself to come back?

In addition, the book considers what it is like to live in the afterlife and what day-today life is like over there. "I have tried to tackle some difficult ideas", says Craig. "Naturally I have drawn upon many classical Spiritualist ideas but also asked questions about the nature of reality. I have tried to show that the Afterlife is not a place as such but a state of being. There are also things in the book that many Spiritualists may not agree with such as the question of reincarnation and whether there is a conclusion to the continuous evolution of the human soul. I certainly do not have all the answers but I hope the book will make people think and so begin their own odyssey to find out the truth for themselves."

"What to do when you are dead" is a landmark book and is beautifully presented. It has full colour illustrations throughout by the artist Steinar Lund and is printed on quality paper and in a large format. Copies are available from your local bookshop and Psychic News from the 14th February.

I just finished reading Craig's great book. The title is a bit deceptive - It's not only about the afterlife, dying and perhaps returning, it's also contains much wisdom concerning what existence and conciousness are all about, along with our purpose on earth and our purpose in the grand scheme of things. The author has written about various ideas printed elsewhere over the years plus some of his own thoughts. The reader is enlightened to make his/her own choices in what to believe, but in the process the reader's conciousness is greatly expanded. As someone else in another review said, it's hard to put the book down once you've started reading. Also, the color drawings are beautiful. The afterlife is probably more of a state of "absolute awareness" but the drawings will enthrall our human mind.

I recommend this book to everyone, especially those who either have just lost someone or are terminally ill and expecting to soon go on their own adventure into the afterlife.

People who's minds are stuck on the material and have no real sense of spirituality (or a church given one -- same thing) look upon death as the end. The real truth -- and there is no doubt in my mind about this -- is that it's a new beginning. On the other side, many wonderful things beyond our comprehension await us. This has been verified by countless mediums, spiritualists, and others who all arrived at the same conclusions without sharing any information.

Look down at that wonderful piece of bio-mechanical machinery you now occupy -- your body. The thing that carries you about in this world and enables you to interact with it. It's like your car, in a way. You get into your car when you need to go somewhere, and you get out of it when you get home. You can do the same thing with your body if you'll take the time to learn how. And, like your car which will soon be sitting in some junkyard being eaten away by rust, your body will soon occupy a pine box, on the other side of the grass, rotting away as bacteria slowly consume it.

Most people don't want to think about this, but the truth is, death will never happen to YOU -- it will only happen to that BODY you've grown so attached to. You, meanwhile, go on to another place.... a place you've already visited several times before if you're wise enough to learn about Astral Projection (AKA Astral Travel).

Get this book, read it cover to cover, then read it again. You will never again fear the death of your earthly body. I know that I have a lot of life left in me and a lot of time left on this earth.... but when this body of mine stops working for whatever reason, I'm looking forward to turning out the lights and moving to a bigger place with a much better view. ;-)

The 'metaphysical autobiography' may just be the next big step in the arms race between fantasy and reality. This book has a strong sense of the fantastical while keeping an eye on the the impact that literature can potentially have on the real world. Filled with scenes of both the beauty and terror, Apocalypse Near is a novel that refuses to exist in a vacuum, it is unashamedly didactic, a book that has a clear and important message yet doesn't skimp on solid, pulpy, action or original imagery. While the writing is slightly clunky at times, it hardly takes away from the overall experience of the book. I highly recommend it to fans of the social/political pulp sci-fi of the 60's and the 70's, authors like Philip K. Dick, Frank Herbert, Keith Laumer and E.E. Doc Smith.

I am the author of this book. I wrote it because I've been helping people through the dying process for 30 years now and it's not that awful dark place that we are afraid to talk about. It is a beautiful, spiritual birth into another dimension where our loved ones can finally heal. It's part of the circle of life. And, I'm telling stories that are completely true about how it can be if we start facing our and our loved ones truth. This is what is going on. Now how can I help to make this as smooth and comfortable as possible? These stories tell the reader how. And, these stories show us how it's really not in our hands. Spirit is guiding the whole process if we can get our egos out of the way and let it happen. And, woven into the process there is still humor and memories that will fill our hearts when we learn how to let go and let God.

This book will show the reader that the true nature of the dying process is spiritual!

The author handles a subject that is so hard to talk about, let alone write about. She takes us along when she visits loved ones, friends and patients before they die. She shares word for word the conversations of these people who in most cases wanted total honesty. Because of her writing, I was able to face the same situation without stiffling myself and my feelings. Anything my dying relative and anything I wanted to say -- is said thanks to her frank writing. A must read.

I got my copy of "Final Passage" and sat down and read it in one day. Barbara Whitfield was so right about it being full of "aha's". I used a whole box of kleenex that day; it was emotionally wrenching, but I couldn't put it down. I have loaned it to my step-daughter (my husband, her dad died of cancer in 2001). She is having a very difficult time reading it because of the emotions it brings up, so she is taking one chapter at a time with lots of time in between.

I went ahead and ordered another copy along with "Spiritual Awakenings" I just started reading it and haven't had time to read much, but I wanted to say Barbara's books are very helpful for understanding some of life's difficult issues.

Below is a letter I sent to Barbara Whitfield after reading her book Final Passage. Please post this letter with her book information. Thank you very much.

Hello,

My name is Shirley and I just finished reading your book Final Passage. I loved it! I heard your interview on a local radio show a few weeks ago and you were discussing your book and it sounded very interesting to me. I lost my mother a year and a half ago to cancer and have been a little lost and confused since then. I wish I would have educated myself on the dying process before my mother died. I'm sure it would have made things easier. I feel better after reading your book. I was with my mother when she passed and I've always wondered what it was like for her in those last few moments. I believe your book shed some light on that for me. I was glad I could be there for her when she passed but it was really hard to watch. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your book.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Shirley

I agree, a crime it (and Call and Response) are out of print. Like one of his blurbs said, Pearson's a cross between Twain and Faulkner. This continues his humorous look at human foibles in a perfectly realized southern small town, written in a voice made for reading out loud. Find it, read it, read the Neely trilogy. If they're hard to get into, read them out loud until you adjust your brain to the rhythm of the writing and speech. You'll be well rewarded.

If there are others like me who wonder how in the world anyone could take part in a tent meeting or believe in faith healing, there are answers in T. R. Peason's wonderful book. What kind of people go to faith healers? Desperate people who can find neither answers nor help anywhere else. Peason creates characters who are not physically attractive and endows them with a humanity which leads to an understanding of ourselves. I have enjoyed all of Peason's books, but Gospel Hour is especially touching.

I agree with the other reviews. Pearson is one of the best writers I have encountered. His work is laugh out loud funny. People have stared at me while I was reading one because I was trying to stiffle my laughter. At the same time he does not shy away from difficult subjects: family relations, church (this book especially), etc. This is one of the better of his six books, although the Neeley trilogy is good. If you can get into the rhythm of his writing you will just float along. It takes abit, like listening to original Shakespeare, but like that experience, worth it. I cannot praise Mr. Pearson enough.

It is a crime that this book is out of print. TR Pearson is a unique voice in American literature, and this is perhaps his best work. (Although The Last of How it Was tells hard and overlooked truths about racism). His novels are touching and funny--both cold-blooded and sympathetic examinations of religion, family, and community. Gospel Hour combines his wit and extraordinary ramblings with brilliant insights about ourselves and our neighbors, and the many motives behind our individual and community searches for salvation. Seek this novel out. Seek out other Pearson novels. Pray for him to publish many more.

How to listen to your Spirit

Surprisingly this little treasure is not focused on war, but on a mans journey back to life. After a vivid and heart warming near death experience (NDE) his recuperation was directed by Spirit even when doctors and nurses thought he would surely die.

Throughout his tale there are a myriad of twists and turns, paramount is the message about listening to ones Spirit. The beauty and harmony that unfolds in these well written pages is priceless. When Bill chose to listen to the voice of his Spirit his life had immeasurable meaning and touched so many lives.. especially his own. Bill clearly demonstrates that we are limitless souls and life is not only beautiful but an amazing adventure.

This book is what I turn to when I need a big boost, some direction in my life or a fresh look at where I want to go in the future. It is a tool to teach us to listen to our Spirit... without need of an NDE.

I have given out multiple copies to friends in need. This is by far one of my favorite books. Thanks for your courage Bill.

Being a senior citizen and an avid reader all of my life, I can unequivocally say that "If Morning Never Comes" is one of the greatest books I have ever read.

At a time when many young men were busy growing pony tails, fleeing to Canada, and staging protests, young 18-year-old Bill volunteered to serve in the unpopular Vietnam war. This decision altered his life forever. The way he portrays his experiences is both heart wrenching and heart warming.

The fact that Bill survived his massive injuries is unbelievable. His tale of what drove him to both survive and rehabilitate himself against all odds is amazing. This is a poignant, wonderfully written and awe-inspiring piece of work. I hope his book is a huge success----he deserves it!

This story of Bill's near death experience in Vietnam is an interesting melding of spirituality and the ravages of WAR. What a goose bump raising story! I have known Bill for many years and was no less enraptured with his words than I was tthe first time he shared the story with me. It should be required reading for anyone going to war, the families of those going to War, but most importantly for those politicians who have never been to War, but are very willing to send someone elses daughter or son. Write on Bill!

If you lived through the era of the Vietnam War you can relate to this book. I enjoyed the way VandenBush just told it the way it was. To many Vietnam stories are loaded with hyped up garbage. This book is straight forward and a joy to read. I hope he follows up with another one.
