I read this book ten years ago. I find Amazon customer reviews very valuable, and see the need for one here. This will best serve as an indication of the book's memorability. I remember fewer details of this book than I do for books I have more recently read.

I have only read one other novel-length account of the near death experience, and have read several accounts that have appeared in magazines. This book echoes some aspects of the near-death experience, and introduces other aspects that were new to me.

One of the images from this account that has stayed with me ever since reading the book is that of the torment of leaving a physical body when one has become attached to experiences that require a fleshly body to participate in or sense the experience. Examples could be eating, physical contact with other living beings, dancing, think of your own examples. Ritchie's spiritual guide explained to him that those who have become dependent on such activities in substitution for spiritual satisfaction feel that they are burning as they crave physical sensation shortly after leaving their bodies behind.

There were descriptions of spirits who linger near the earthly plane, that were striking to me. The scene that remains in my mind is one of the patrons of a tavern.

I am currently reading another book of this type by Betty J. Eadie. This book would make a good companion to the Eadie book. This type of account invites comparison reading.

Though technically challenging at times, it won't take long for the reader to pick up the lingo. It makes the reader feels as though they are in the midst of a friendly and very brilliant debate. It will certainly capture the interest of those who have had a Near-Death, or Out-of-Body experience. This book is worth a second read.

North of Nowhere is a coming of age story with a twist. What distinguishes it from others of its type is the author's ability as writer. William Reid is a VERY good writer who tells a story in engaging style.

Darren Freeman is 17 years old and heading down a destructive path. The product of an upper middle class family, Darren is a "pot head" who doesn't seem to give a damn about anything but smoking dope and defying or embarrassing his social climbing parents.

Carrie Spears is main "caretaker" of irresponsible, alcoholic parents. At 17, all she can remember is cleaning up vomit and the messes created by the adults in her world. Life has not been pretty or easy for Carrie, and she trusts no one but herself. Life at home and on the streets has hardened her to everything and everyone.

As a last ditch effort to change their outlooks, Darren and Carrie's parents send them to the Grizzly Bear Adventure Outings in the Alaskan wilderness. Camp Counselor Gary Cornwall is a military wannabe who uses shock tactics as a means of bringing rebellious teenagers to heel. He is not a man Darren and Carrie find easy to like or respect, and Cornwall soon finds he's bitten off more than he can chew with these two strong-willed teens. When Darren and Carrie escape the camp and strike out on their own, Cornwall fails to track them down and they are left on their own to survive the Alaskan wilderness.

The tale this author spins is an exciting one, about two fearless teens who work together as a team to survive and finally thrive as human beings. Their respect for each other's strengths and weaknesses is touching and uplifting. Whatever nature throws at them - bears and freezing blizzards, near mortal wounds or icy rivers - these two young people take in stride and face together. Love blooms, but is mutually put on hold because survival is their foremost common goal. From Alaskan natives who befriend them, they discover universal truths that give their lives fuller meaning:
1. Alaska and the world have become a zoo the white man left by accident.
2. The killing of animals is not glorious but a necessity to feed humans. It leaves the hunter sad and shaken.

How Darren and Carrie come to a richer understanding of themselves and the world over time is the beauty of this story. I highly recommend it to all ages.

When I first started reading this book, I thought, hmmmmm...., just another self-absorbed autobiography of someone who doesn't have any serious training about the mysteries of life.
I was WRONG !! As I kept reading, her engrossing story soon showed a very wise and thoughtful person, who expanded her perceivment of life through her life's trials and a near-death experience. Her near-death experience was the catalyst, which propelled her on her way to understanding our spiritual selves and our beautiful, fragile Earth.
During the five minutes that she was "dead", she travelled to the Other Side and was shown some amazing things (I don't want to ruin it for you, so I won't give too many details).
Her story is told in a very honest, interesting, and heartfelt way, which truly draws you in to understand what she experienced and the information she brought back with her. It is wonderful, illuminating, and very warm and comforting. It is also disturbing, and sends an urgent message.
I really enjoyed this book......it was definitely worth the money. Hashi-Hanta is very lucky to have had her near-death experience, and to come back with so much knowledge/information to share that applies to all of us. We are all together on this Earth.
The ending erupts into a powerful disertation (not preaching) on our humaness, our spirituality, our uniqueness, and our responsibility to our planet, Earth. I became glued to what was written, and quite frankly, rendered awe-struck. Wow ! I'm amazed at how right-on she is, and I am so very glad I found this wonderful, inspiring book.
I invite you to do the same, and see if it doesn't ignite something in your heart and soul.

Marge Rieder has done it again. Return to Millboro is a follow-up to Mission to Millboro, the first book about a group who incarnated into Civil War Millboro and again 130 years later in Southern California. This book, like the first, is a mystery and a study of life as a whole. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery or who is interested in reincarnation. You won't regret buying this book!

At last! Kristin Madden's long-awaited re-publication of her SHAMANIC GUIDE TO DEATH AND DYING is finally, finally available!

Originally published in 1999, Kristin revised and expanded this book to a whopping 324 pages of rituals, meditations, and absolutely wonderful stories from her own experiences. Touching and beautiful.

If there was ever a confirmation for me that this book was meant to be re-published, it happened this past summer. I'd led a rather unique healing and protection ceremony for the land at a farm two hours' drive away. I shared a ride over with a very sweet couple whom I'd just met and who run a "green" cemetery.

On the way home, they talked of the unusual encounters we had that night with the Other Side and how these encounters related to a book they'd read several years ago. The book was so treasured that they kept a copy from its first printing, now dog-eared and well-read. The name of the book? THE SHAMANIC GUIDE TO DEATH AND DYING by Kristin Madden, no longer in print and hard to find, even for $90 or more for a used copy. Between my experiences that night and this couple's recommendation that I hunt down a copy of the book--if I could--I knew it was time for this book to make its re-appearance.

And now it's available on Amazon, brand new! It's become the subject of much discussion with the seniors in my family, and is paving the way to talk about their own passing in a constructive, positive manner. Thank you, Kristin!

Last of the Mind Chronicles Trilogy, Signet of Atlantis continues the chirotic weaving of time through past lives and prophetic future that is Barbara Hand Clow's gift. Her deep commitment to Earth's story is brought to light through the lives of ancient beings, human and others, giving the reader a mind-expanding adventure into worlds within this world. The wealth of pure information in this volume is astounding. Any seeker of any discipline will find a key to that which offers them bliss. Written in the first person, Signet of Atlantis paints passionate visions of multidimensional life through the eyes, mind and heart of Aspasia, Cretan priestess; Egyptian lion goddess, Sekhmet; Ichor Egyptian astrologer; Argolid, Atlantean from Spica; Allini, Pleadian teacher from Alcyone, Inanna, Sumerian goddess of love and war and Isaiah, Judeo-Christian prophet. (There are others) In true shamanic fashion, stars and stones speak their secret knowledge of the evolution of humankind, releasing a new/old vision of life on earth for modern man- and womankind to absorb and become. The author's willingness to speak to ancient wounds, tantric energies and secret teachings, in Heart of the Christos, (Book 2) is brought to fruition and healing in Signet of Atlantis. Her courage in accepting the "mission impossible" of bringing this body of knowledge to light and into play in this critical phase of Earth history is a fine example for people who care as deeply and for those who may only sense that something is going on. The whole trilogy is a must read for those seeking to open their multidimensional selves to the depth and richness of this planet we inhabit. There is much work to be done to manifest the wonder and beauty of life in full consciousness and Barbara Hand Clow has brought forth a solid understanding upon which to build.
